Siemens SX66 upgrade for WMP10 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I want to have WMP10 on my SX66, but the original ROM only has WMP9.
Is there any way I can upgrade the ROM to have WMP10....but keep everything from the original upgrade (like all of the stuff for Cingular).

WM10 started showing up in 1.31 rom went main stream in the 1.4x rom (was some time ago so I could be wrong).
If you need WM10 then you need to up the rom as there is no wm10 install as such. If you up your CE rom to 1.42 some of the ext rom patches will downgrade you rom so you need to clean up the ext rom.
If you want to keep your carriier apps then you need to keep a copy of your old ext rom.
Best start for you is wiki and the kitchen.
The SX66 has the standisation project and for that this site is not the best, you can get a lot more info of pdaPhoneHome.com

Trouble after using WM 5

Did anybody having trouble with unlocking ExtendedROM after downgrading from WM5 ?
Il have problem with unlocking after downgrading to WM 2003 SE again
I got error message
THX
The ext ROM should not re-lock after upgrade / downgrade as the security code is changed and there is no way to re-lock it! Are you sure you re-configured your memory back to a 16MB area for ext rom before you downgraded?
I can't understand that - after I downgraded I can't see the Ext.Rom. I run the unlocker and unhider but still couldn't see it to load all the ol' ext.rom files in it.
As I said - did you resize the ext rom in WM5 before downgrading?
Not sure if it will work but try using the Repart tool under WM2003SE to reduce the size to give you back an ext rom (See the Wiki for downgrading)
I read the whole Wiki and even translated it into german for our german WM5 buddy's. I resized it AFTER the downgrade how it's been explained on the wiki.
I mean it's not a "Heeeelp" - because I installed the O2 GER CAB manually, I just wanted to know this.
You can downgrade to 2003SE and then using the partition tool create a new ext rom with 16384 kb which will you back your Ext rom. I hope this helps.
Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I am having the exact same problem. Followed the wiki to a T to downgrade from WM5, and all went well until I went to apply the extrom. Running the repart_doc tool it ran with success, but upon a soft reboot the extended_rom folder is not present. Any ideas?
Figured it out - extended rom was hidden. Grabbed a utility from xda-dev to unhide it and voila, it worked.
For anyone that cares, the newest t-mobile rom w/cooked ext works great on my M2000...

SX66 question

Hello all.
I just found this place and it's great!
I am in the USA and I have a Siemens SX66 with Cingular, running the default ROMS.
I've read there has been issues with with WM5 and others seem to not have any trouble.
What ROMs should I upgrade to?
From links here I also found: http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/
Are system ROM 1.40.00 and Radio ROM 1.13.00 my best options?
Thanks again, this is really a great site!
I personally would suggest applying the standard and extended ROM's from Chris' SX66 (Blue Angel) Standardization Project which you referenced, then upgrading the radio to 1.15. WM5 is cewl looking and the persistent storage can be a life saver. I go back and forth, probably more than 30 times, hoping that one day the speed and reliability will come through. Being a corporate geek / consultant that hates crackberries I dream of true push mail. However I'm so dependant on Microsoft Voice and my BT that I keep going back to WM 2003, Chris' ROM's being the best.
Best of luck to you in whichever way you go.
btw, Cingular is releasing the 8125 this month! YIPPEE !!!
(guess the wife will get my BA has a hand me down... )
Steven
SX66 (PH20B1) [Cingular]
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10/05
Ext ROM: 1.40.125 WME
Radio: 1.15.00
I recently upgraded to 1.42 with my own Extended Rom. Since then (probably two weeks ago), I haven't had to reset my phone for one-way sound, wifi not wanting to turn on, bluetooth insufficient driver memory or any of the other minor problems that forced me to reset my phone at least every other day with the 1.40 rom.
If you are going to try the upgrade, copy this extended rom to your device, then use the BA_TMNL_14200_115_11300_ship upgrade (delete all nbf files except nk.nbf). I was able to use the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file to load this rom. I think I had to run it twice (first time it puts the device in bootloader mode but gives error, leave it in the bootloader mode and run it again.)
BTW, I had already upgraded to radio 1.15, so you might want to do that first.
Hmmm. FTP not working for me from work, I'll upload the ExtRom tonight and update this post.

Upgrading and Unlocking a Siemens SX66

hello
very nice with a wealth of information.
i wanted to upgrade the roms and unlock my siemens sx66.
before i do it, i want to verify the manner in which it is done. from my readings it appears that i update the roms and then after they are all done then i unlock the phone.
i plan to backup the phone before all is done.
one of my main questions is that my wife also has one of the sx66s and we share contacts and the calender. we do this via active sync. will there be any issue with my phone having a different rom than hers with the syncing?
also, once all the roms are update, would i just restore from a backup or do i just place items back in.
i was planning on using the stable roms from the SX66 (Blue Angel) Standardization Project
thanks in advance for your assistance
bob
read wiki for the blueangel
thanks, will do
ok, i read the info provided and also found the sx66 standardization project webpage. that site is very dedicated to the sx66 that cingular wireless put out, which what i have.
the site gives good directions, but i have one issue. it says that you need to have all the same revisions for the main and extended rom. how exactly do i do that? do i just do the main and radio rom upgrade first, then the extended rom? i just don't want to mess up the phone by not doing something correctly.
thanks in advance,
bob
afaik you flash them all at the same time, but what it means is dont flash an extended rom for one ROM version also with with a different ROM version
got it done
followed the instructions on the sx66 standardization project -
unhid the extended_rom folder using the correct too then did a soft reboot
then put the 1.44.xx ext rom into the correct folder, after that ran baupdater with the 1.44.xx main rom and 1.15.xx radio rom. after all was done i did a hard reset and everything installed excellent
How is it Working?
Bob332, is your SX66 functioning OK, not problems? How is your BT, more stable, pairing ok? How did you know what upgrade to use as I am not finding a match for the Siemens model?

it is running nicely. as far as bt, i don't use it reguarily, but with the headset i have it works nicely - jabra bt800. i can say that it appears to run as good if not better than my wife's which is not modded at all. i get a good signal and it is just as stable as my wife's. i feel the newer roms have better wifi control and there are some additional features with them. i used the roms off of the sx66 standarization project webpage.
Bob, as the instructions seemed very clear I went for it. My device settings now read: ROM 1.42.00, Ext ROM 1.20.115, Radio 1.02.10 and
BT Stack 3900. Protocol 1337.35.
What did I do wrong? More importantly how can I get my settings to match yours – 1.42.126 & 1.15? When I attempt to load the Radio I get this error using BAUpgrade tool? Where do I go from here?
Which upgrade tool do I use for the Radio?

read everything i have put up and d/l the appropriate files before going farther, then follow the 1, 2, 3 method at the end
here is the page - http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/SystemRadio.htm
use the blue angel flash rom tool aka - baupdate.exe and make sure both the system and radio roms are in the same folder as the the updater tool. during the upgrade, actually before it starts, it should tell you what versions you are upgrading to. also, this information and these roms are for a cingular branded sx66.
system and radio roms - system - 1.40.00 (source is dutch) and radio - 1.15 UK
unhide the extended_rom folder using the correct tool from this page - http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/Extended.htm (latest ext rom tools) and also read the pdf documentation located here - http://relaysgoldens.com/sx66/ext_roms/Extended_ROM_Installation_Instructions.pdf
then did a soft reboot
d/l the newest "pre-cooked" ext rom - 1.40.125
1. put the 1.44.xx ext rom into the correct folder after you unhid it on the sx66
2. run baupdater with the 1.44.xx main rom and 1.15.xx radio rom.
3. do a hard reset and the info from the new ext rom will be installed
this should get you set up

Here's my take:
1. Sometimes. You have to understand what you have before you download. Each string of posts generally refers to different ROMs. Until lately, the ROMs were the whole package (bootloader, Core OS, Phone and Ext ROM). Most folks want the latest OS possible, but want the phone part from an older ROM, so in some cases the phone part of the ROM has been split out as a separate installation. In other cases, Ext ROMs have been undated and distributed by themselves.
2. Depends on what ROM you've got. If you have the all-in-one type, everything gets wiped out and upgraded. Even if you do a backup, chances are its no good because the backup was for the old OS and is incompatible with the new OS. If you install just a phone or Ext ROM, the core OS and all your settings SHOULD be left alone. However just this week some goob couldn't run the right files in the Phone upgrade and nearly bricked his phone, then pissed all over the other guy trying to help...(reference the Great KeithT Rant of '06)
3. Assume you're talking about upgrading the Core OS and leaving the Ext ROM as is. Don't know of a way to do this--it hasn't been mentioned as a possibility in the Wizard upgrade forum in the past few months AFAIK. I think this is highly unlikely anyway, as the Core OS ROM is really in charge of everything. You'll want the match the Ext ROM with whatever Cell provider you have, and there are more than enough all-in-one ROMs to suit nearly every carrier. I'd suggest searching: "T-Mobile ROM upgrade" or whatever provider you have to get a Core OS/Phone/ExtROM all together.
4. Many applications are included in the Core OS ROM, like pocket Word, Excel, mail, etc. I think MSN is included in the Ext ROM, but not sure. Anyway, just got to try it and find out!
5. This is a little tougher. I recommend the latest Core OS matched with an Ext ROM for your cell provider. There is some debate over the best phone ROMs (see recent posts in this forum) depending on the towers in your area. Note, the latest Core OS doesn't necessarily have the highest version number. Someone leaked a Cingular ROM v2.25, then another TMo ROM v2.24 was actually a later build. Diff providers have different numbering schemes.
Good luck, read a bunch, and feel a little comfortable with what you're doing before you leap. Lots of folks here will help if you get in trouble, but be expected not have your head up your arse before asking for help!

Tmobile Wing ROM on MDA... Possible?

Hi... I have a Tmobile MDA (HTC Wizard) phone with the latest MDA ROM (2.26.10.2) on it.
What I would like to know is if I can download the Tmobile Wing (HTC Herald) ROM from Tmobile website and flash it to my MDA? Would it work or brick my MDA? Would I need to do CID unlock before loading the Wing ROM?
I checked and I have a G4 MDA. Hardware-wise both the phones are similar.... I would like to have WM6 on my MDA without having to go thru the flashing process.
Appreciate your help.
does anyone have any idea?
Search under the Windows Mobile 6 subforum for "boring ROM"....
Last line of original post-"I checked and I have a G4 MDA. Hardware-wise both the phones are similar.... I would like to have WM6 on my MDA without having to go thru the flashing process.", yes...they are similiar, but NOT the same! The Wings ROM WILL brick your MDA, ESPECIALLY since it is a G4. We have plenty of WM6 and WM6.1 ROMs here for your enjoyment. And about the wanting to upgrade without flashing...well, that is not possible! You HAVE to flash a new ROM in order to upgrade to a new version of Windows Mobile.
Thanks @ashasaur. I understand that I need to flash the ROM which will erase everything on the phone and load the new OS. I went thru some stickies and found out the process and have seen some G4 safe ROM version like TNT/Slim/BlackDiamond on the forums... would try them out.
One last question... incase if I have to revert to original WM5 Tmobile ROM... can I do that ? If so how ?
If you wanted to revert to the factory WM5 ROM not going to be a problem. You can go to T-Mobile's website and download the 2.26/2.26/WM5 ROM. It is the latest official T-Mobile ROM upgrade available for the Wizard. Here is it: http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/
Also if you do a lot of flashing it is recommended that you always flash back to an official ROM before you switch to a newer WM6/WM6.1 ROM.
For example, I had TNT 6.1 but wanted to upgrade to WM6.1 Slim 4.0. Here are the steps:
1) Backed up all data
2) Flashed down to T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
3) Flashed to WM6.1 Slim 4.0
4) Flashed the radio ROM I wanted (UK 2.19)
5) Flashed the IPL/SPL ROM I wanted (3.08/3.08)
6) Restore backed up data
Best way to backup and restore your contacts, SMSes, etc is FdcSoft's PPCPIMBackup. You can find it here in forum.
yes, that is a good system, but for G3 devices! When flashing a G4, DO NOT EVER flash ANY IPL/SPL to your phone or it WILL become a brick.
@ashasaur... I was planning to flash the Slim v4.0 on my G4 MDA (it says it is G4 safe). Do I need to flash a radio ROM too? Isnt it part of the Slim ROM ?
I have backed up my data using the dotfred's PIMBackup (v2.8)
yes, the Slim v4.0 is indeed G4 safe...im using on my G4 right now ASAF. You can flash a new radio ROM if you wish, but it is not required, the radio ROMs are a different part of the system, and not included with the regular OS ROMs...newer radio ROMs give better reception for some, but they are not required when flashing a new OS ROM.
Thanks @ashasaur... I plan to flash on weekend... will post my results here ... One more question... since you already have Slim 4.0 on your Wizard... do you see any issues specially regarding Bluetooth, Wifi, GPRS/EDGE (I have Tmobile Web plan)? Thanks.
