When I soft-rest my phone it displays the following:
ipl = 2.25
spl = 2.25
gsm = 2.25.11
os = 2.25.11.1
I believe this makes my phone a G3 phone, but am unsure. The guides are very confusing at times.
I would like to unlock my phone and find a rom that would run significantly better than the one that came with it. If someone could point me to a guide or even offer some instructions and help I would appreciate it greatly.

"How to find what kind of device I have?
If your IPL/SPL ends in .00 you have a G3 chip, if it ends .01 then you have G4. Soft reset you device to see the IPL and SPL version"
Mine does not end in either. What is mine?

I guess I've got a G25 then

Then why do they say if it ends in .00 its G3? Shouldnt it say if it does not have anything after the 2.xx its G3? Well, thanks guys, I will try the Faria ROM soon!

I tried to go to WM6 by unlocking the CID and the phone - so far so good. Read that i needed IPL/SPL 2.xx or higher so set off to search. Found IPL/SPL 3.08 so installed those to my phone. Then tried to upgrade to the WM6 official rom found on these very pages. Now every time i flash i get update error 302 at 99%.
Im almost sure its the IPL/SPL but i have nothing to backtrack to and not a lot to back this theory up as im still a newbie in the ROM area. My original versions were 1.02 each as i have a G3 O2 XDA Mini ( wizard )
im really stumped and phoneless at mo so ANY help would be grateful for.

you say with the wm6 oficcial there is not a official rom for wizard tellme what rom do you used

I bet you went from 1.02 to 3.08 without stopping at 2.xx
Maybe that's the cause?

Mestrini - Yes i went straight from 1.02 to 3.08 coz i cannot find the V2.xx IPL/SPL files but i have found the updater solely for the IPL/SPL to 3.08 which is what i used.
is that any use ??
flash your phone with the tmobile 2.26, that should correct your issue. It will also give you the 2.26 version of spl/ipl
ok if you had a cid unlocked device search in the forum for the t-mo 2.26 ipl/spl after you can update for the rom as you tell

Thanks for the advice guys, ive tried several different roms and i have a consistent problem where it will not let me change the rom as ( i think ) my SPL version is still 3.08 and every ROM bombs out with "this is an upgrade only"
help me downgrade my IPL/SPL back to 1.02 pleaseeeee

i have T-Mobile MDA and Im stuck with spl 3.08
I did everything.......... and I mean EVERYTHING and nothing helps me bring back my MDA to the original T-mobile software or downgrading the SPL.
1. Downgrading my IPL to 1.01 (using button rom)
2. Unlocking CID with lokiwiz (successfully)
3. Running button rom again
The SPL still stays 3.08 after doing the above...
If there is another way to downgrade the SPL 3.08, please let me know. I really need the T-mobile original rom version.

I see jb007jb has exactly the same prob i do. i have done everything he has and am still in the same situation - IPL 1.02 & SPL 3.08?
dont suppose anyone can cook up and IPL/SPL downgrader like the one i used to upgrade to 3.08 can they coz with SPL3.08 i cant downgrade ROMS coz i keep being told i need to acquire a newer ROM for my device

Thats your problem, reflash the 1.02 rom again, both IPL and SPL have to be the same.

i know... i need to find a way to drop the SPL back to 1.02 or thereabouts. i cant flash back to the T-Moblie 2.26 ROM coz it says my SPL is too high. i upgraded my IPL and SPL using a rom updater now whatever i try i cannot drop the SPL version.

I'm kinda lost between all this posts and numbers. I don't know my phone is G3 or G4, so I'll post everything and waiting your help to tell me. when I download rom & upgrade my pda, it does upgrade but with no effect like I did nothing
here is the info about my device:
Bootloader screen: IPL 1.01 / SPL 2.16
Using "hard_SPL-G4.exe" program report that my device is : G3
Booting slpash saying :
IPL 1.01
SPL 2.16
OS: 1.5.4.2
Menu>Settings>Device information:
ROM ver: 1.5.4.2
ROM Date: 11/08/05
Protocol ver: 4.0.13.23
pretty please help me how to upgrade it.
First things first: Your phone has a G3 DOC chip.
Get Wizard Service Tool and see if the CID is still locked (i think it is). The problem you have now is that you failed the upgrade and the SPL increased but the IPL remained 1.xx and unless you manage to get them to 1.xx you won't be able to unlock the CID.

I tried to unlock CID using WST but got this:
SPL version is 2.16.0000
DOC chip is write-protected!!
Downgrade SPL to no higher than 1.06 and
repeat procedure.
Now to upgrade my device, I need to downgrade, unlock CID then upgrade it.

Flash Button's 1.05 ROM couple of times until SPL changes to 1.01, then you can do unlocking.
I just downloaded : button's 1.05 ROM and upgrade/downgrade my device with no luck to change SPL. still reporting 2.16 SPL.
4 tries till now. all success upgrade/downgrade with no luck to change SPL.
any suggestion highly appreciated.

I'm also clueless on how to solve this issue and believe me that it's what bothers me most nowadays because few have recovered from it and a lot are facing it still.

Sounds wise but whatever you do always be sure to have battery with good charge (>60%)
Plz keeo on trying by flashing Button's Rom 1.05 a couple of more times,u'll get down to ipl/spl 1.05
if it still doesn't,than try this rom Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102,hope it'll solve the problem.
third option is that while in bootloader mode,download and flash the Official Rom of ur carrier which was pre-installed before or any upgraded Official rom from the carriers official site.

Hi, i'm glad you came back as the latest version of WST allows to CID unlock even if IPL and SPL values are different.
A member reported success in recovering from a similar situation so i think you should try it. HERE

I just finished trying, here is my storyline
1) Faith on successful upgrade was 1%
2) I downloaded WST 4.2.2
3) Did CID unlock, then I got error that I should downgrade IPL to 1.xx ish >>
4) faith downgraded too to 0%
5) I did downgrade using button rom ( back to IPL:1.xxx SPL 2.16 )
6) Did CID unlock again, got msg that "Want to try unlock?" then faith down to -1%
7) after clicking "Yes", got msg saying "All done" ( Faith back to 0% )
8) did soft-reset, and was watching booting screen on my device, I saw IPL still 1.01 / SPL 2.16 >>> I was like d'oh ( Faith lvl -1% )
9) was pushing myself to do upgrade using random rom which was not workin on my device.
10) Upgrading in progress >> Upgrading finished >> Device rebooting.
11) was watching boot screen again, then I saw IPL 1.01 / SPL 2.15 ( meh >> Faith lvl -2% )
12) Faith Jump to 100% when I saw the new start up screen and the rom is damn working now
13) I'm so gratfull and happy ~ thank mestrini ~ thank you everyone
all in all, WST did it I got my rom upgraded now

Nice post, i enjoyed reading your story by steps and even more the faith progression (maybe a graph was in order there )
I'm glad your 'sort of' sorted it and you can now use other ROMs but it shouldn't be finished until both bootloaders have same value. But that's me, i don't settle for half job

You may use the tool to get valuable basic information about your Wizard (among others), e.g. to find out that you got a G3 ...
As for the radio-only-update: if I am not mistaken you need to CID unlock - basically it is a ROM update except the ROM contains the radio only but no OS nor IPL/SPL.

Sorry I got your personal message but didn't recognize you. Later I remembered that it was this thread. Look at this thread for a tutorial on how to upgrade. I believe that you have a G3, but the IPL and SPL versions do not match. When you finish the tutorial, both IPL and SPL should be 3.08 (or 3.09, but mine is 3.08).

You can still download the official T-Mobile ROMs from their website, as long as you are a current T-Mobile customer, or at least know a telephone number of a current T-Mobile customer.
