I am a Newbie so be patient with me and your advice is appreciated.
I have a Qtek 9100 (Wiza200) G3
Rom 1.1.7.5
Radio 4.0.13.16
Ext rom 1.1.7.105
I purchased the phone unlocked and have used it with sim's from other countries. When I attempt to run the following updates.

RUU_Molski.Biz_AKU2.3-226102_22610105_024711_WWE-30MB-CF2
I get the error "file name is not a valid Pocket PC application".
What am I doing wrong?
(I have also read all the recommended threats which were great. Thanks for sharing)
you obvious did not read all the recommenced sites! My guess is that you tried to run the upgrade file in pocket pc. You must connect your phone to the computer and establish activsync connection first. than you run the upgrade file on your computer

Navy2010 is correct you are running the updates from your PPC this won't work. You must run the programs from a PC. I also suggest a little more reading.
To get you started have a look at these threads:

Thanks Gents but one more question for u?
The upgrade went perfectly. Thanks
The reason I was trying to upgrade the ROM is not resolved still.
When device is in the Portrait position (slide is closed) my touch screen works maybe 20% of the time. When I open the slide the touch screen works perfectly. The issue still occurs after the upgrade.
Any recommendations?

Sounds like a hardware failure and could be the reason the phone was sold... ?? If you can return it under some warrantee, I'd lean that direction.
--M
I agree.
Yep I agree. I have sent an email to the seller. In all fairness He sold me a brand new device and he has been pretty good so far. Let see what he says now. I'll update the post when he gets back to me. Thanks for you comments.
Seller has sent me an RMA form
I guess he is going to repair it or replace it.
He emailed me an RMA form which I have sent back. Saga continues.

I have had this problem but in reverse it turned out to be muck under the screen and would cause the start button to activate by just pushing the side of the case.
Get a laminated buisness card or something like it and slide it in between the screen and case
You may have something here
Thanks Eddieitman. I tried it and nothing much came out, but usually after a few mins the screen locks up. This time it's still responsive after 15mins. We'll wait and see after an hour if it still works. fingers are cross.
btw nice site.
Still locking up but a little squeeze works. lol
I am talking about the device. lol Unfortunately, it's still locking up. But when I squeeze the sides of screen it comes back. Sounds like my situation maybe a little worse than yours. I going to send it back and see what they do. thks for the help.
Screen issue not covered by warrantee.
This is a Update/FYI.
I sent my phone into Arvato Teleservice out of Germany to fix the screen issue. $97.00 cdn to do so. First off their customer service is absolutely horrendous. So avoid them.
They determined the issue to be a damaged Main Board, but because of the flashed ROM they are not going to do it under warrantee. I should of downgraded before sending it in (my fault). I am still fighting with them.
Cost to fix $490.00repair + $97.00shipping = buy a new phone.
I am not suggesting it is a result of the ROM but wondering has anyone experienced screen issues after flashing the ROM?

Hi, i posted in the Mr.Clean g4 rom thread about what happened to me, but i really want to try my best in seeing if there is a possible fix for this phone. I'm sorry if i'm being annoying, but i am going to try everything in my power to get this phone to work, cause i wasn't able to replace it, and it was so expensive! AND I LOVE IT DEATHHHHHHH
Allright, i have a T-Mobile USA MDA, now i'm not sure if it has a g3 or g4 chip, that is my mistake. I went ahead and installed the g4 version of mr clean. It Installed, loaded up and i calibrated my screen and everything was going great. Then it started installing the customizations, and it turned off, forever. It won't turn on, no bootloader, no nothing. I had a 60% charge on the battery when this started, and this shouldn't be the problem as it loaded up fine, and it was charging while the customizations where loading.
So now i'm left with a plastic brick. Thank you for any kind of help whatsoever.
again, sorry to be asking for this, but i'm so desperate at this point.
I am a newby but am a reader of about 7 months.
I too have exactly the same issue on three devices. I tried one and it went brickward bound. Thought it was a dodgy device so tried another..........exactly the same again. Then my very patient and understanding boss walked in and said that he tried his last night and......well.....now I have three bricks on my desk. :? The only diference to the post before me is that mine are T-Mobile UK Wizards.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
Mine went exactly the same way R.I.P
What exactly happens in the customization? I thought it was just installing the odd program etc?
Not dead yet
    You probably had the G4 chipset you can always take the phone for replacement. Just tell them it wasn't working when you got it home. Tell them it won't power on
Same issue with me here, Mine just stopped working too... Now I brought it back to the Tmobile store, and I have 2 wait for 2 weeks..
Except. I did not have an non Tmobile Rom on it..

JTAG flashing?
I wonder if anyone has information on how to JTAG flash a Wizard G4, or would be this just be at HTC's factories/repair depots?
(JTAG flashing is attaching clips to certain chip pinouts and flashing it using a dedicated device that is for this purpose.)
I'm currently using the PPCTuning SuperROM, but I have the dreaded "floating screen" sensitivity issue and need to send in my phone. I plan to put the stock ROM back onto the unit (latest one from Cingular's site), but I also SIM/CID unlocked the unit, so I'm wondering if there's anything additional I need to do in order to be safe sending this back.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Please elaborate on the Floating Screen Issue.
My Wizard seems to lose its screen alignment all the time. After doing an alignment it will be fine for a little bit and then suddenly be 5mm or so out. Is this the same issue?
Thanks
Julian
One thing I found for issues like that is that there was apparently some gunk built up under the edges of the screen. I found that taking like a card or something stiff and thin enough to slide under the edge did a good job cleaning some of it out. Basically just take your card and slip the corner of it under the plastic at the very edge of your screen. Run it along a couple of times in both directions along each edge. You may need to "scoop" some of the gunk out partway down the long edges.
That worked for me when my phone had those symptoms. Best guess is that the build up was putting pressure on the edges of the screen which was throwing the touchscreen off.

That's exactly the issue I have, and from what I've read it's VERY common, particularly with the earlier Wizards. Mine's been doing it since day 1, but it used to only be every few days, now it's every couple of *hours*. Sometimes it can happen within minutes.
Now that I remembered I was going to do this I better follow up, call these suckers and actually DO it
Hello all,
I'm just now debating on whether or not I need to exchange my new Tilt in for another one, or if this is just normal break-in behavior.
The scroll wheel is very erratic, sometimes when scrolling down it will go up instead and reversing the scrolling motion will cause it to freak out (go down once then scroll up like crazy). Also pressing the scroll wheel in to select/click on something often doesn't work forcing me to try several times to "click" on what I have selected.
The scrolling action is nowhere near as smooth as my Hermes, is anyone else having these issues?

If it is indeed a hardware issue, does anyone know of a way to restore the bootloader back to AT&T's ... I flashed HardSPL and think I should probably put it back to stock.

Does not check NBH signatures
Based on 1.50 MFG bootloader, rtask enabled

Model ID check only 4 chars
SPL overwrite DISABLED (to bypass, use SSPL-KAIS.exe)
I guess using the SSPL-KAIS.EXE and then flashing an AT&T om would solve that.

I was having the same problem with the AT&T ROM, but admittedly was not running it for very long before pof released HardSPL.
That's what makes me think it's hardware related.

SSPL v1 is just fine to flash an SPL or a splash screen, it will not work if you flash a full NBH containing OS becuase the NBH buffer is smaller on 0.92.

Erratic scroll wheel persists across ROMs
Well I flashed back to AT&T ROM this morning and have been playing with it all day, and the erratic behavior is still there.
Given that only one other person complained here, I think it might be my device. Gonna go see my AT&T guy about an exchange.
Thanks for bearing with me.
sirsycho,
Let me know if you got a new device and it is better, please. I am having issues with having to click the scroll wheel really hard to get it to register at times. On another note, unlike all the other keys on my Tilt keyboard, the 's' key barely goes down when you press it and it doesn't click like all the otthers. This causes me to instinctively hit it multiple timessss so I get a lot of Ss in a row. Anyone else?

Not you're device. I had this issue prior to unlocking, then with the htc rom and again now with the att rom. To me, it looks either hardware issue, or something lower level is the OS that is common to all current roms. PErhaps the sensitivity of the wheel needs tweaking somehow.
I had issues with my scroll wheel as well. Coming from an 8525 I was like WTF did they do to this wheel? Sometimes the click wasn't registering, but either it's broken in, or I've adjusted my habits because it seems OK now, though not as solid feeling as the 8525 was. I'm sitting here with both the 8525 and Tilt in my hands and the wheel on the 8525 is definitely better.
I'm experiencing the same problem. The wheel feels scratchy when rotated, unlike my Hermes which was smooth. Usually wheels of this type are metal contacts against a circuit board, which use a binary gray code to register direction. I'm thinking its been designed poorly. Perhaps the Hermes unit was $.02 more money.
I wonder if we can replace it with a Hermes unit?
thanks sirsycho.. Update us once you get your new one.
Update with new Tilt and ATT ROM
ok... I'm still running the ATT ROM and still having the scroll wheel issues. Exactly the same things mentioned by others here... scrolling doesn't always register and when pressing in on the wheel I have to do it a couple times before it actually works.
On a side note, it seemed to be getting better on the older device before I switched, but as was mentioned above, that might just be me getting used to the substandard hardware (both of my Hermes work sooo much better).
I'll probably try this out through tomorrow before I flash the HTC ROM... I'll post again if anything improves.
Same scroll wheel problems for me (I have a Tilt). It sounds like maybe it improves as you break it in, so I'll give it a few more days before returning. Grrr....
Same problem here with my first Tilt. I returned the next day because this thread hadn't popped up yet so I thought it was just me and one defective unit. I subsequently got one that (knock on wood) has performed much better. Still notice a few jutters here and there, but the wheel doesn't feel as "scratchy" as mentioned before.
When I had my first Tilt, I noticed it much more when moving the wheel slowly. Here's hoping the problem doesn't start again because so far so good with my new one.

Just got a Tilt 3 days ago and Im having the same erratic scroll wheel problem.
I see that this is an old thread, so I'm wondering if any conclusion as to this being a hardware or software problem have been made?
Thanks
I bought an ATT tilt quite a while ago. It is out of warranty now, and wouldn't you know it, something went wrong.
I'm currently using Dutty's Diamond ROM (with the keyboard fix installed), but the same happened before with the official ROM. While I text some keys don't work. I'll be typing away, just to look at the screen and see that I am missing a bunch of letters, rendering the message unreadable. I then have to go back and fill in all the blanks, and even then sometimes it takes several tries to get it to go. The same happens with the backspace key; sometimes it just doesn't work, other times it does (oddly enough, when it doesn't work normally, it usually lets me hit "function" and use it as the delete key).
My other concern is that there is a ton of lag while typing. It takes a while for letters to show up. Is that normal (for the Tilt, at least. I'm still wishing I had bought a BlackBerry)?
Yeah, I had similar troubles. I just upgraded my SPL and hopefully will be testing it further testing.
what SPL are you running?
I'm not entirely sure, it was a while ago that I flashed the ROM. How do I find out what it is? I tried Device Information, but it wasn't there.
you have to put it in Bootloader mode.
hold power and camera button while resetting with the stylus, then you'll come to the tricolor screen which will give you the SPL info.

I am having the same exact problem, 1 out of 5 times it works corectly so im thinking it has to be somekind of software, my problem started when I started using ROMeOS's rom's and I have tried different SPL's virsions.
I've heard that the keyboard/membrane may be the problem. Is that likely? If so, is there anywhere to buy them?

Success! If the SPL doesn't work and I can't convince AT&T to do it, I'll order one and put it in. How do you install it?
EDIT: I just installed skyfire, and noticed that while I was putting in my email and password it was smooth and nothing was skipped. I'm almost 100% certain this is a problem with WinMo itself
I have been having the same problem as you are describing, but I have noticed that it is with heavy use keys like T, H, E, R, S and for some reason V.
I was getting the feeling that it was a hardware problem rather than a software problem because, especially with the V, I have to apply a bit of pressure to get the button to work.
Unfortunately for me I bought mine off Ebay so the warranty is already void.
Incidentally mine started happening when I had the original network providers (T-Mobile) rom on it. I have since installed an original HTC rom and it hasnt made the slightest bit of difference.
So, how easy is it to open up the back of the Tytn II and replace the keyboard unit then?
Oh my god! Thank you for posting this. I swear I have always felt like posting this but always got too lazy. I thought it was only me that had this problem. It is so annoying typing away, and then having to spend another minute to retype the letters that didn't get inputed the first time. It is so frustrating and I thought it was my fault or something, or ROM, I believe its hardware related, but I am not going to spend another dime on this POS. I'm just not so patiently awaiting t-mobile to release their android device, and I will jump ship and never look back! Thanks for the post again, it has given me piece of mind.....ironically
I'm kind of wanting T-Mobile's Android phone, but seeing as how it's made by HTC, I'll wait for the first couple of user-reviews to come out. I bought the Tilt based on website reviews, but man, I was really misled. They said the camera was great, I can only get blurry unrecognizable images. They made no mention of the fact that when you switch to landscape it takes 3 seconds for all the graphics to appear.
I'm disappointed, and I think my next phone will be a plain vanilla flip phone.
Anywho, I'm updating the SPL now, I'll post if it makes any change.
Okay, I now have HardSPL 3.56 and there does not appear to be much of a change. There was some short lag at the beginning of the text string, but afterwards it caught up. I missed no letters this time. I cannot say how much of this was the placebo effect (i.e. it just felt faster), but perhaps if everyone with the issue tries we can have a reasonable answer.
ETA: I added a poll, so if you try this, fill in the poll!
disable word suggestion under Input setting.
i don't miss any characters with it disabled.
It was already disabled for me. I know I didn't change it, I think the ROM came that way.
I've searched and could not find an answer. So I'll just start a new thread.
No matter what radio I use, no matter what ROM I flash, I cannot get my screen to respond to taps.
It was responding to manual buttons but no touch. I flashed to a new ROM hoping that would fix it, but now I can't even past the calibration screen...
This all just happened suddenly too. I have been using an iphone for the past couple of months so I have not been too concerned. However I wanted to use my kaisar as a modem at an offsite sales event but it's still the same....
Probly been asked a few times, but I took the plunge away....
Flame or answer away....
Just flash ur shipped ROM & see if it can back to normal again. If not, just return for warranty or repair.
have you updated your HardSPL?
if you have spl1.0 with the wm6.1 installed, these problems are common.

That may work. But I'd rather not downgrade to 6.0 if that is not the problem. Plus I have no valid warranty. ATT Tilt is from the United States and I live in Canada...

I have tried 2-3 Hard SPL's.
I suspect that it has something to do with the Hyperdragon 3 Diamond ROM. All my problems started when I flashed that paticular ROM.
I will try downgrading to 6.0 and see if that does the trick. I somehow doubt it though. I think that this may need another, trickier remedy, ie: unbricking a bricked PPC.
I was sort hoping that this was a more common problem and advice would be more readily available...
So I downgraded to the original ROM, but still the same problem. Perhaps if I also downgrade the SPL. Does anyone have this file?
Btw, though I am not a developer or anything I have been flashing ROM's for awhile.
This problem just came out of nowhere...

Ya, I forgot about that thread. I haven't used that since I upgraded my spl to Hard3.28. I can understand why I would get problems with the RESTORED STOCK ROM that I flashed my device wouldn't work with the latest Hard SPL, but why would this occur with a ROM it was supposed to work with.
This wasn't something that happened after I flashed, it just happened out of nowhere... They key to fixing this understanding WHY. it may or may not be the SPL...

I had a similar problem on my trinity. It was an hardware problem, a spoiled thin strip that is between the LCD and front cover. As someone told me that
send it to warranty would take a long time to get it back I replaced myself the strip and now is working...
It's probably a hardware issue. You will have to replace your LCD+Touchscreen and if that doesn't work, you'll have to replace the flex that connects the LCD with the motherboard itself.
I fixed a TILT with that problem. I ended up buyina a new LCD when the problem was caused by the flex
PS, LCD screen is way cheaper than the flex.
Hey. So it looks like I did buy a replacement warranty. So I took it to my guy and he said that he would just replace it. He asked if I wanted the same one or if I wanted to pay the difference and get a new one....
I paid an extra $250 and got a diamond...
Problem Solved.... See you in the Diamond Section...
had same problem - which i solved by dissasembling and putting few paper pieces under the screen to make a good fit of screen inside the housing - and it helped - touhscreen works fine

I had a similar problem with a Wizard and it turned out to be a bit of dirt that was stuck under the screen on one corner, resulting in constant contact that prevented the device from registering my taps. I removed the screen and cleaned it thoroughly to fix.
Also try "rubbing" the screen in each direction with both thumbs to see if you can slide the screen around and dislodge any dirt from the edges. The screen will move around slightly under the case without damaging the device.
