what XDA IIs ROM Upgrade? where?
Its the O2-UK ROM upgrade, see http://www.my-xda.com. It has new O2 active, B/T build 3900, Radio build 1.12, Win CE version 1.4, BB Connect V2.0. But everytime i try to run it, it says file corrupt.
New and changed in this version of software, v1.40.237 are:
O2 Active UI v3.6.024
Bluetooth build 3900
Radio build 1.12
Windows mobile CE version 1.40
BlackBerry Connect v2.0
Removal of Photo Contacts

Looks like a f*ck up, but I've let the product manager know.
I've had the same problem- they can't get anything right- we wait months and months and then they upload a corrupt file!

Seems the sound loss on shutdown of wmp10 still exists, not sure about the volume loss bug, when receiving / making calls.
Seems quicker overall though.

Hello everyone im new to the forum, i have a t mobile vario, i have managed to unlock it curtusy of lokiwiz unlock 0.2a. i have a few questions if someone could help me on
1. on the unlocker software there is a option of CID unlocking, what is this?
2. is there any differences between the different variations of the wizard, 02 mini, tmobile vario, kjam, qtek.... which has the better firmware??
3. can i put either kjam or qtek firmware on my vario?

Speaking as an MDA Vario owner who has reflashed with the k-jam ROM (and now can't go back!) I would say the only benefit of changing ROM is to enable 802.11g network access, which T-Mobile disabled in software.
There appear to be no other benefits. On the downside there are features that come with the Vario that do not work with the k-jam ROM. e.g. the email setup wizard does not work. Hardly a showstopper but an example. There is also an error message on resetting about elatepushservices.exe not found or not signed. Again, it doesn't seem to cause a problem but why klutz your machine up without a good reason to do so? The version numbers of everything that comes with the Vario also seem to be higher than the k-jam ROM, which I'm guessing is a good thing.
Unless you simply must have 802.11g connectivity, as well as 802.11b, my recommendation would be to leave well alone. It will also make warranty support much easier.

I did use the clubimate ftp ROM and my equivalent figures, with the Vario extended ROM remaining, are....

so all my version numbers are lower than yours excep the extended ROM, which I saved from my Vario.
I don't recall the Vario ROM being less stable than the k-jam but you need to be very careful what software you install as there is a lot of stuff that is not 100% WM5 compatible. It might install and it might run but it might also crash or destabilise your machine. I have only installed the T-Nobile supplied GPRS monitor, Total Commander, TomTom 5.21 and a couple of GPS utilities and that's it.
As soon as you start throwing in today plugins and other system utilities that are less than 100% WM5 compatible you are asking for trouble, IMHO.

There you can find the Dutch rom which greddy pointed out.

hmmm by the looks of it i might hold out until theres some newer rom updates with significant improvements. at the mo it looks like theres only a few tweeks and i dont wana risk bricking my vario.

Thanks, I didn't see that.
A few questions:
1. HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD THE FILE?? I can access the FTP-server, but when I try to download the Rom, the file stops downloading after apx. 20 - 40%, whichafter I even have to reset my router to get the internet working again. I used both the FTP Explorer and the Internet Explorer.
2. Should I also upgrade the Extended Rom? I want to get rid of these ugly, squared, pink and grey T-Mobile phonepad keys, so is this stored in the Extended Rom?
Which Extended Rom should I use? There are more of them, so which one is for use with the Dutch Qtek 9100 Rom?

If you ae comfortable doing this, could you perhaps make a backup of your t-mobile rom. I downgraded to the k-jams rom without doing a backup...silly me, anyway would be grateful if someone would pop a copy on the ftp here.

I also done exactly the same, i didn't have a miniSD card, an i was too eager to upgrade so i couldn't backup my rom.
Now i wanna go back to the T-Mobile rom but no one has one on the FTP. would you be able to upload yours?

jay - are you using ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/ or ftp://xda-developers.com/ ? it should work, unless your connection keeps dropping?
Need to refresh my memory on the back up procedure... get back to you on that later.
Regarding the pink key pad, a bit of registry hacking should sort that out
If you have a registry editor, follow the below, worked fine on Compact II but never got to test it on the vario before the downgrade

Value - 0 (default HTC skin - cool blue)
if you change the value to 1 it then displays the T-mobile's wonderful pink and grey pad.
Save the changes and they do a soft reset

Yes, i've tried in the FTP site. But in there the roms are backed up from other devices and not directly from Qtek support. First, I would like know if there is problem or there are any diferrences between roms backed up from devices and the other from official support.
In the end, i'm asking if there is a link for official Qtek support where we can find the future rom updates.
There is a nice pdf guide on backing up your ROM here you need to do procedure 'r2sd all' as opposed to 'd2s' as suggested as that guide was for the magician.

This is a Qtek official upgrade so you just need to run the installer and you'll be done with it without much hassle. I personally prefer i-mate's KJAM ROM since it is newer and in my opinion it runs a bit faster. To have i-mate's ROM in your Qtek, you have to do CID unlock (using Lokiwiz). Search the forum for this info.
I had a Qtek 9100 before.. it has a dead bluetooth hardware. Now, if you know where I can get this thing serviced I would appreciate it. Anyway, in place of my Qtek 9100, I purchased Cingular 8125, CID unlocked it.. and run i-mate KJAM's 2.17 WWE Rom.

Why do I have to make a CID unlocked, because I bought Unlocked, it means I can use it with any GSM Company.
When you made a ROM upgrade, you are also upgrading at the same time Radio Version, Protocol Version and Ext ROM Version.

You don't need drivers, just download and install Activesync 4.1 after that plug in your USB cable and the device gets recognized.

Whenever I go to this link it says "Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

I searched and can not find a ROM for the iPAQ 6515 series tha will flash it to Windows Mobile 5.0.

WM5 for hw6515 doesn't exist, neither officially on HP site, neither unofficially on forums. The problem is that HP wants to sell newer models and no one who owns the iPAQ 6515 has the technical competencies to supply a modified ROM for our device (it can be done modifing the ROM of another device such as the hw6915).
I own also a Motorola mpx200 (an old 2003 phone with ridicolous hardware specification compared to other modern WM5 phones!) with Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone edition, the ROM was supplied by an expert user. But the Motorola mpx220 (the successor of mpx200) doesn't have WM5 because no one "made" it.

well the only choice is unlockit in this link no imei combination unlock exist this link go to the hp and there you cant download the rom in english

first you will make a back up and then update the device and later restore if you want to keep your stettings
thanks for the replys, upgraded ok, but 1 final Q, to backup/sms contacts etc it requires outlook2002 which needs some outlook express (not compatable) install with IE5 - I have IE6 (not used) but cant be uninstalled and IE5 refuses to go on because it says its already later SW installed. Damn MS cant even get there own sh!t to work together.
Is all later versions of outlook and activesyc compatable with this pda/phone?

what will it take to create WM5/6 update for this phone? Can't someone take the ROM for the HW69xx and modify it for the 6515? I am looking to upgrade the phone simply because of the lack of WM5 and it seems like such a waste.
theres nothing wrong with the spec of 65XX series there is an official wm5 rom for the 63XX series. hp just wants people to trade in the 65XX and get the new 69XX series. so ya someone needs to just dump the rom and modify it for use with the 65XX series.. only question is who not many ipaq users...
I have an HW6515 and I would be willing to give anyone the ROM and any other information to try to make a WM5 upgrade. Just let me know how.

There will never be a official ROM for the XDAII (Qtek 2020 or what name it was also sold), because the device does not met the official minimum Hardwarerequirements of Microsoft (was the same with Windows Mobile5). Nevertheless we all know, that a reduced WM5 or WM6 works perfect with XDAII. Try one of the latest versions like .... (i don't want to favourize one of them). keep a Download of the original WM 2003 (1.72) for a recovery. Be careful with your data already in the device synchronize with your Computer that you can recover your data.
What can happen is that some additional Apps are not running with the newer OS, if you installed additional Apps check first if they are working with WM5/WM6/WM6.1 or if there are Updates available.
