WM6: Make WM keep CAB files around after installing - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

The 'old' way (1: HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\nDynamicDelete = 0 or 2: HKCR\cabfile\Shell\open\command = 'wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete' ) of keeping cab files after installing isn't working anymore? Does anybody knows how to disable deleting cab files after installing for WM6? I'm working with the clean WM6 rom son no PDAviet 1/2/3 or 4
thanks in advanced.
da Heufster

i made a thread about this months ago.. "keep cabs" search for it

It still works this way. I use it this way on my own cooked WM6 Rom. I integrate this setting directly in the cooked rom, but setting this value with a Reg Editor should also work without problems.
And yes....I also use the Clean version.
Molski

I find that using the DynamicDelete key will not work. The /nodelete option works. Just give it some time before you shutdown and restart.

you can also change your cabs to "Read Only" and this will prevent them from being deleted also... you can do this on your desktop before copying over, or use an app like Total Commander

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cabfile\Shell\Open\Command]
@="\\Windows\\wceload.exe \"%1\" /nodelete"
Believe me.....this works!

Thanks will try it again, could be I did something wrong.

Official i-mate ROM release (1.40.176 & 1.12.00)

It's too good to believe:
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200.exe
I'm downloading now.
Tom
39.6MB (their server is really slow today)
From i-mate site:
The details of the new ROM image are:
For the Worldwide English Build:
ROM version: 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.40.176 WWE
I think they waited until the pros on this site figured everything out first...then they just piggy-backed on their findings. Kudos to the real pros on XDA-devel!!!

How to install this rom in Spanish Qtek 9090, i'm new and y don't now very well to change the language.
Thank you!
imate update
I just got the update from the I-mate site and am working it with the XDA tools but I'm getting a checksum errors on the radio, NK, and MS filles. Should I be using a different tool? My device is a MDA III T-mobile german flashed to english. Any Ideas???
Downloaded, installed and running. No problems....yet. I can't find a config file in the extrom in order to make some changes, but there's a setup.exe file now. Not sure what that's about.
No idea how to change the language...I'm not good enough to know that.
More later.
Tom
So far so good. A couple issues. 1) the phone off (or flight mode on) is no longer activated by the Call End button. Shame...I loved that feature. 2) I have a problem turning the phone on (flight mode off) after a soft reset. I think it may be caused by the Contacts Button addin. The only way I can turn on the phone is to go into the keypad and then turn it on. All other methods cause the system to lockup.
Tom
Temporary copy...
Until someone puts it up on xda-developers / cooks it,
a MUCH faster loading copy is at

Great!!!!!
I'm downloading it right now!!
i-mate finally released it after 1000's of unkept promises!
FINALLY!!! Here's to hoping it will be better than the Qtek version!
Again, I would like to ask why there is no config file??? I take it setup.exe has the config file built in? If any of the pros can give me some feedback as to this, I would appreciate it. I'd like to drop in several cab files incase I fubar something down the road.
Thanks,
Tom
P.S. almost 6 hours and only the "turning on the phone" problem.
yes... config is missing...
will try out some combinations .
skype is taking 3.8 megs... i don't need it there.

Ture...true. Skype was fun the first couple times, but with VOIP at home, I really don't need it anymore. Still, kind of cool to show people...if you have someone that you can connect to.
Tom
Tried some combos, including, using the old config and setup files... nothing wrorks,
only thing is that any additional file found in ext rom is treated as a carrier customization file, and on selecting one file , that particular file will be installed..
also, i noticed that there is one config file in the windows directory.
Just take the Autorun.exe and config.txt from another rom, add in the cabs from the i-mate rom, and there you go.
Yeah, I will be removing Skype ASAP myself. I can understand how it could be useful, but for my purposes, it just takes up space.
The Setup.exe is way better then the config
Leave the setup the exe it is better then the config. with the config you have to site the and write a line for each cab file. the setup.exe automatically runs every cab file in the ext rom. whether you put it there or not. So when cookinh your extended rom no need to keep having to change the config.txt. The setup will run whatevers there.
You can find this new ROM at ftp upload folder hope MDAIIIUser can move to wiki , I will upload ext.ROM by tomorrow

Do I need to keep autorun.exe ? If yes, then which one old or new?
sunish, I can not imagine why it would not work. You must have made a mistake somewhere.
The WMP10 close problem still exists, which leads me to conclude that it is indeed a problem with the 1.40 CE Rom, and not something within the Extended rom muddling it up.
Has anyone seem any actual improvements with this rom over Qtek's? All of the same problems still to be in place. The extended rom has a few different (but unimportant) cabs, but that's about it.
MarcValme, I'm not so sure I agree. One of the good things about the config.txt file is that you can specify the order in which the cabs install, which does actually make a difference in a few circumstances. Food for thought.
TheLastOne,
Don't know / Can't figure out where is the problem.
No combination is working for me.
Maybe will try it again after a day or so.
Right now, after unhiding the Ext ROM, I'm installing all the programs needed by me manually.
One thing that I noticed is the increase in speed... The performance is somewhat better now...

.cab queries

Hi,
I need some assistance. I am currently cooking my extended rom. My Extended rom does not have enough space so, i am putting some of my MUST HAVE softwares in my storage so that it installs after a HARD RESET.
But, most .cab files will auto delete upon launch. Is there any way to make
it not delete ? Kindly assist.
Thanx a million
You can avoid the CAB files being deleted by making them read-only.
Well i mean that there is a Registry hack that will not delete .cab's on installation, but you would have to make a .cab with that registry setting and install it as the first thing after hardreset, although i dont think it will work since the registry is already loaded, and the new setting require a reboot to work.
Look in Wiki for registry hacks.
So why dont you just Write protect the .cab's that you want to hold on to

I have room enoughf in my ExtRom, so I have never auto installed from other than the ExtRom.
But I'm almost 100% sure that there was a topic on auto installing from \Storage (Card) sometime ago.
Maybee youll find some info in the Wiki

Wait a day or two, maybe someone who knows come along.
You can use a software name Cabinst wich let you install a cab without deleting it.
Easy.
Hi,
Easiest way is to make cab read only. Browse the storage card using PC via activesync. Right click on cab file. Go to properties and make it readonly.
You can also change the deafult beahvior of Instal by changing registry key.

* fAskDest=1 gives you a popup when you install a CAB so you can install on Storage Card for example
* fAskOptions=1 asked before overwriting, haven't found out if/what other options
*fEnableCef : I haven't messed around with that
* nDynamicDelete=0 and the CAB file remains, =1 it disappears but what the difference with the default value 2 is I couldn't figure out.
So if anyone else wants to experiment with it and post their findings
I searched Google but all I could find was about fAskDest

keep the ext rom empty,
after reboot hack the reg to point to new area.
Run the autorun from threre.
Have all files as read only.

Only problem is that all cabs are installed in the default location.
I have yet to get cabinstall to run in batch mode using the nscript tool.

Auto Install my most used programs?

Hi all you wonderful people
I am a flasher!
I cant help myself, each time a new Roms shows up I HAVE to have it!
So after loading 3 Roms in the last week and setting each one up just the way I like it I started thinking, There must be an easier way to install all my apps. I have them all in a folder on my SD but having to tap on each one and then go through the install process is a pain when you have 10 or more apps plus all the registration details that go along with them.
Is there a way to make an auto run installer that will install all the cabs in a folder without prompts? I can use cab manager to edit the location and in some cases the reg info of all the cabs.
Thanks
Jules

Well i tried it out and i dont think much of it!!
ExtRom
I think most of the ROM chefs are storing cabs in ExtRom, and then setting up AutoRun.exe to run when you install a new ROM. This way in the Config.txt you can call all the common apps you reinstall all the time.
You would have to unlock the extRom if you want to store stuff in it, be careful not to delete your cellular provider specific files. Also, the space is limited on the extRom as well.
Here's what a typical config.txt can look like:
SHOW:\Extended_ROM\ext_rom_pic.bmp
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\pocketweather2002.armrel.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BatteryStatus.0.03.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\DeviceLock.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\weather20b1.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Molski.Biz_Performance_Registry_Tweaks.cab
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset
Of course, you can always have ActiveSync just reinstall as well. I don't like to keep too much install files on my phone. It just takes up extra space I can use for something else
I created a custom Ext_Rom with the MS CF 2.0 (NETCFv2.sp1.wm5.armv4i.CAB) and it works for only one hard reset then te second hard reset the file "could not be found" So after a few hard resets I found that the CAB will delete itself after first run. So after the first Hard Reset and running of the Ext_Rom it is gone. Is there a way to stop that CAB from auto deleting. The other manufacturer CAB are okay still. I have WinCE maybe I can change something in that CAB???
SOLVED:
Make the CAB Read Only.

Yes that is a easy one!!! You have not set the cab file as read only!!! it will not delete the files if you set them as read only!!! Sorry mate but that is Ext_rom cooking 101
Some time ago I made some installers with PocketPC Installer.
I added the cabs from the programs I use and made the cab's with registration files regtweaks etc with wince cab manager.
All changes (like controlpanel\owner) license files etc etc. are now installed by clicking an exe.
Now I can experiment with new roms, knowing I can install my programs and settings within a few minutes.
I keep the exe on a sd-card incase of a hard reset.
You can even let it auto-run, which I don't use, but could be usefull.
Both programs are not cheap (approx 80 usd each), but they are worth it.
PS.
If you already have wince cab manager to edit cabs, use UPX4PPC for the exe's in the cabs, it will speed up the programs when executing them op your PPC.
Used it for iGO and several other programs.

WM5 Comm Manager

Hey whats up guys, just a curious question I have regarding the comm manager in WM5. When using stock version of WM5 2.26 from T-Mobile on my MDA and using a program called Navizon with my GPS, I am able to calcualte a lot of Wi-Fi Access points and Cell Phone towers using the Comm Manager supplied with the stock. I am talking about, on my regular commute about 400-600 AP's and varied on towers. I have upgraded my Rom many of times with different variations of WM5 and WM6 and also reflashed my Radio rom with many different radio versions, with WM5 stock, customs, and WM6, and each came with a different comm manager than stock, and after doing so I am now only able to gain maybe 7 AP's on my normal commute but Cellphone Towers are good.
So my question is, is it possible to get the comm manager from stock WM5 and install it within any custom roms already to created to see if that really has something to do with why I am not gaining any data while using this program, and if that might not be the case, then what exactly could be the problem when trying to collect the data at all. Thanks in advance.
Man, over 75 views and not a single yest it can be done or no it cannot be done, come on guys somebody gots to know a simple yes or no answer!
Hi,
If you mean the "CommManager.exe" file, yes it can be done.
I'm building my own WM6 rom (orwel based).
As I liked better the CommManager.exe from the Tmobile 2.26 stockROM, I installed it.
Simply extract the file from the CommManager.exe T-Mobile ROM and copy it over to an already installed rom or integrate it in your new rom.
You also might want to tune the Software\HTC\CommManager registry key to make sure that you have 8 buttons on it, instead of the regular 7 of the other roms.

Hey eluth, thanks for the reply man. I didnt realize it was that simple, but a quick question, is their a tutorial you can point me to as far as extracting the .exe file, or do I have to flash rom with stock, transfer over to pc, reflash with custom rom, transfer back over. Basically Im looking for a simpler way of extracting than the above, thanks in advance.
Nice advice!
I've done it!
Great - I see my loving 8-buttons!!!
I would also love to have it again. Can somebody share old commanager.exe and reg. file here?
I changed the key to show 8 and it says "Comm Manager supports 7 functions at most!"
Any ideas?
I guess what I am asking is what is the 8th button for and how do I go about mapping it in (if that's even possible)?

It looks like you have a 7-button manager, you need an 8-button.
Try this: (attach)
(the 8th entry in the registry should contain one default value - "IR", similar to 7 others)
P.S.: do not pay attension on the file size - it's just compressed by upx
Thanks fellaz, hopes this fixes my issue with Navizon.

cab file for easy install
I didn't test it 'cose I allready have it...
Did anybody tried to install the VOIP.cab too ?
Funny thing is that most users reports registry entry started from 1 but mine started from 0 (phone entry, in WM6 MB edition)? I suggest all not to use cab files, but manually perform registry changes. Adding VOIP button is OK, I don't have error in settings menu I used to have without it.

STOCK ATT ROM/no fluff (no Manila Autostart)

Interesting question..
I have the stock ATT FUZE rom. I hard-reset which wiped out my device clean and after the first reboot.. right before it said it was 'installing ATT fluff', I soft reset it again.
This gives me the basic ATT ROM without all the fluff and I can manually add existing CAB files already loaded. (yes, this is not as clean as flashing with a cooked ROM but works for me for now). This works for me.
Question is:
How do I get Manila/TF3d to autostart?
TF3D does not load automatically. I have to go to \windows\manila.exe to launch it. I created a shortcut to \windows\manila.exe in the \windows\startup folder but it does nothing.
TF3D does not show in the TODAY ITEMS.
I tried launching \windows\ManialActivateToday.exe but it does nothing.
I could always flash this ROM or do the full ATT install and start removing programs... but prefer to just keep what I have and autolaunch Manila.
What are your thoughts on this?
A quick search would yield the answer. There is a looonnnngggg thread about skipping customization. I know because I started it. You have to install a cab out of the windows folder to make manila work.
ahhh.. even though Manila worked fine by skipping the customization and launching from \windows\manila.exe, looks like you do have to install the PT_Manila.cab to make this happen. Thanks for the tip.
