HTC phone will no longer allow a software update. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Since I upgraded to "PDAMobiz_Wizard_Crossbow_AKU3.3_v.3311_G3_onl y"
my HTC will not let me upgrade to anything anymore.. once I run the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe" utility for any version of software including the original PDAmobiz file..
the phone will shutdown when it is supposed to but will not restart.
Now if I hit the reset button it will reboot just fine, it will not go to the colored bars but will boot like nothing ever happened.
it seems like it is freezing from automatically restarting.
any ideas?
also.. any ideas why from this version of crossbow I am losing a LOT of incoming calls?

Thank you guys..

Try entering Bootloader mode manually first, then running the upgrade. And from what I have read about the 2.47 radio ROM, that is the culprit of your missed calls.

How do I do that?

Bootloader mode
Power off the phone. Then, while holding down the camera button, power it back on. You should then get the 3 color bars. Connect your USB cable and you should then see "USB" on your phone. Then run the upgrade on your PC as you normally do.

I find when all other upgrade utilities fail the Italian NOID one comes up trumps.

GUYS the camera button did the trick..
when I was trying it earlier it was not working, the trick is that I had to actually shut it down with the off button. (I was just pulling out the battery)
Either way it did it ..
Super thanks guys

8125 help
whats the trick to get into the bootloader? i've tried reseting, and pressing the camera button a dozens times now, now help
I think you have to hold both the voice messaging button as well as the camera button to get into the bootloader.
In your first post you were already in the bootloader -- "color coded screen" as you put it. First thing. Take the battery out before you discharge it too much to continue. It cannot charge in the state you are in and will discharge very quickly until useless.

if you see the USB in the corner of your bootloader screen you should be able to flash a G4 compatible rom back into your phone from there.
Just boot the phone so that you can see that screen and then start the install process on your computer. You will need a ROM that doesn't include the bootloader. So make sure it is a G4 compatible ROM.
I by no means am an expert but I was recently in a similar situation with my G3 (flashed a 2.xx rom that didn't include a bootloader with a 1.xx bootloader)
and this is what I had to do because I couldn't connect to Activesync, or communicate with Windows in any way with that messed up flash.
I'd try flashing the latest stock 8125 ROM from here: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/docs/RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship.exe
ahhhhh yeah
okay... i was confused about just what the bootloader was... and i was in the bootloader... thanks for the help several attempts at detecting the device didn't work... i tried with summiters Cingular_Custom_AKU2.3_Combo_Installer_V1.exe and it finally detected it... which i guess means i have a g3... anyway all is working now, thanks for the help
Hi, I also had problems with USB after 3.2 rom update. I always get a USB not recognized and I can't flash with any exe ROM. Even in bootloader it was not recognized. Did you have the same problems with the phone?

HTC Wizard100 not responding after 2_47_11_radio installation

Hi,
I am using HTC wizard 100 with following setup
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.08
GSM 01.12.10
ROM 1.5.4.2 WWE
Radio 01.12.10
Today I tried to install 'radio only' - 2_47_11_radio.
After this my pocket PC is not responding at all.
When I start my cell - it's getting stuck on windows mobile screen, with passowrd on top left corner of task bar and network, speaker and clock displayed in the task bar.
I have goodlink installed in my phone which prompts for the password when I start the phone. However as because it's stuck on the windows mobile screen I am not able to enter the goodlink password also.
And when I reboot GSM information is missing from the initial screen. I am not able to connect my phone using USB cable also.
Can anyone please let me know what I did wrong because of that my phone stopped working. And is there anything that can be done to get it working again.
Thank you for your help and support!
I would say go back to 02.19.11, its so much better then the ones after!!!!
Does anyone know why the sound is gone after increasing the volume up to its maximum?
I'm Using the 12 mb version ,anyone with the same problem?
Hi funman!
Thank you for your reply. Could you please help me out how to get the 02.19.11 installed, as I am not able to connect my phone through USB/ActiveSync. It's stuck on windows mobile screen.
Thank You!
Ok hold the voice button and re-set your phone. Still holding the voice button press the power button till the phone comes back on! Now you should get the boot screen now you just have to connect your usb and there you go run the update prgramm on your computer with the new rom and let it do its stuff!
I had the same problem, and i thought to my self crap. But i was able to down grade my radio rom!!! So dont worry you are able to save your phone!

you can get the newest version of youre carriers ROM from www.HTC.com you just have too lok around to find it... should be something like "support by carrier" or something and then in the "downloads" section. good luck
P.S. i dont believe that the phone has to be unlocked to do the carriers shipped roms... my cingular 8125 was NOT CID or SIM unlocked and it worked just fine.

Forcing Bootloader Mode

Maybe some of you are already aware of this procedure, maybe not.
Anyway, it worked for me and I decided to share how to do it. Simple.
This procedure should only be used in case you really need enter into a bootloader mode and all other ways to do it has failed! Hold Camera button is one of these I am mentioning.
My Wizard was almost bricked at that time and after I speak with an I-mate technical guy, I got the following:
1. Make sure your i-mate™ K-JAM is not Connected to the PC and remove the dummy card or SD/MMC card
2. On your Desktop PC, open Microsoft ActiveSync, then go to File >Connection Settings >Remove the Selection from “Allow USB Connection with this desktop computer”
3. Reconnect your i-mate K-JAM to the Desktop PC using the USB Cradle and the Charger MUST be Connected to the Cradle (Don’t use the IrDA or Bluetooth for the Upgrade)
4. Run the Upgrade again and it will work fine without any problems.
While upgrading, the ActiveSync program will not go on, however the upgrade is running.
Hope it helps!
this realy worked for my (ex)bricked dutch tmobile mda vario !!!!
tip: REALY make shure that there is no wcescomm.exe running all the time and realy remove the sd card else is nogo
btw: my wizard is CID locked! and works like a charm
Thanks buddy!
I'm happy that worked for ya!

I'm having a problem
The power went out as I was upgrading my Wizard (Cingular) so now it just turns on at the boatloader screen. I've tried running updates while it was in this screen (it did show the "USB" in the white bar) but most of the time it tells me there is a connection error. Even if I kill Activesync, I notice that when I run the update utility it still runs Activesync. I've tried disabling the USB connection but still get the connection error.
The only time I haven't gotten the connection error was twice it asked me to update but then told me I had the wrong file. This only happened when I tried "upgrading" to 1.05 as I was trying to start again. After it tells me that if I try running it again it gives me the connection error.
Any ideas?
Hi!
Have you already flashed your device once?
Which ipl/spl do you have?
I had problems over 1.05 ROM in the beggining.
If you stuck on bootloader mode, that's a good signal your device is not bricked.
I'd recommend you to disable activesync as you did and reflash it again! Check also if your device is CID unlocked! Search for a thread in the xda developers root.
Try to upgrade to ipl/spl 2.26 first and later to others you want.
Regarding the old file error...can be related to a missing file called enterbootloader.exe.
Hope it works for ya!
Take care

My device is unlocked as I've been trying different ROMs as of late. I had gone back to the Cingular 2.25 ROM for a couple days to sort some things out and was going to flash Farias AKu 3.3 when my power problems happened. My Current IPL/SPL is 2.25
I've tried flashing the TMobile 2.26 but keep getting connection errors. In fact, I've tried flashing with every ROM I have pdviet 3 and 4, CIngular 2.25, TMobile 2.26 and Custom 1.05. Everything (except twice in the custom) gives me connection errors.
Any other trick I can try?
BTW, I used to live in Sao Paulo years ago...
Edit: OK, so I tried the 2.26 TMobile ROM after I typed this and it worked!! I'm back up but I was having trouble with that ROM beause of some incompatibilities with Cingular. I'll go back to Cingular's ROM and play it safe for now.
I believe part of my problem was I kept trying different updates one after the other. Now that I think back, the 2 times I got the update to almost work was after I turned off the device and turned it on again, which is what I did this time around also.
I had the same problems as mentioned by Ironman before. I followed the steps and with a few slight changes, I managed as well to "unbrick" my wiz. THANKS A LOT for the great step by step manual!!!
Still I wanted to know WHY i bricked my device:
I was trying to upgrade to the underground WM6 ROM. I got the same situation as ironman:

I then followed the instructions by epimazzo as written above. I also tried the T-Mobile ROM 2.26 which was not working for me. PANIC!!!! Error messag was that I had the wrong Vendor ID. THerefore no upgrade to TMob 2.26 was possible. I tried it then my original qtek ROM in my language and see it worked!!! This IMHO means that I did not put the device in a proper IPL1.xx and SPL 1.xx status which is required for a clean system in irder to unlock it! So if it is bricked, try your native AKU2 ROM and make sure you unlocked it properly. Maybe you have to run the 1.05 ROM for a second time after the unlocking.
I hope this helps you guys.
Sounds great to hear that!
I had play around with pdaviet3, underground and another ROM just today without any problems at all. I don't think that this is the case. Now you get your device back to normal, try to reflash it again. Hope it works this time!
BTW,...São Paulo is a nice city. Thanks! Let me know if you decide to come here!

Excellent post. I messed up with my own cooked ROM and could only get the bootloader screen. Tried the tips here - didn't work first time but I pulled the battery from the KJAM to reset it rather than using the reset button and it worked fine.
In my opinion this thread is so helpful to people who brick their device, it should go "sticky". Mods anything you can do about it?
Thanks buddy! I really appreciate!

Hi there!
It seems that you just need to enter into the bootloader mode and reflash it again!
I had similar problems and more during my brick "false" stage!
So, just try to follow my steps here and you should be fine! Once you get into bootloader mode, just use any ROM out there to reflash.

I was about to start a EMERGENCY HELP thread, but I *think* this is the right place instead.
The "touch" of my screen went dead today. It got progressively worse over a few hours, starting with difficulty in using the phone dialer, then random incorrect stuff getting triggered by screen taps.
So I hard reset, and got no response on the fifth alignment cross, meaning 1) "Tap on the screen...; 2) center; 3) top left; 4) bottom left; 5) bottom right. In that I could not proceed with alignment, I hard reset again, and now, at the first alignment screen, i.e. "Tap on the screen...", I have no screen response at all.
I called T-mo, and they are being great about sending a replacement ASAP (and getting me a loaner in the meantime).
BUT, I am running Faria+ AKU3.3 V2... so I clearly have to flash back to T-mo 2.26. I can;t figure out how to do it though, as no matter what I do I am stuck at the first alignment screen!!
HELP!! EMERGENCY!!!
(I have three or four days to get this done, so it's not THAT urgent)
Do a search for Broken Screen. Someone (either in Wizard Upgrading or in the Wizard forum) just had a similar issue with a cracked screen. They downloaded something that allowed them to get around the welcome page.
Actually, if you are just trying to flash a new ROM, don't even mess with it. Go straight to the Boot Loader screen (see the first post of this thread). No tapping necessary until the new rom is on (and that will be the Tmobile then so you would be good.
Thanks for the quick reply. Charging up to green now, and then will try to enter bootloader and flash T-mo 2.26. Will report back.
Worked great. Back to T-mo she goes!!!
BootLoader Mode
Excellent thread but you left out one thing.....exactly how to place your device in bootloader mode.
To clear up any misunderstanding because this is very important....this is how you do it:
Perform a soft reset, when the screen goes blank hold the camera button until a multi colored screen comes up .... That's it !!!!!!
When the unit is connected, USB is displayed at the bottom left.

No Activesync After Button 1.05 Romload

I cannot get activesync4.5 to link up to wizard after loading button rom. IPL is 1xx and spl is 2xx. I am not sure what to do next with this since I cannot cid unlock without getting a connection with as. I have not found any definitive answers anywhere, and I have been reading alot, and then I read alot more. I have cleared the temp folders I have ran chkdsk I have manually started as on ppc. I really could use some help on what my next steps should be to get a link up from the ppc to the pc.
you're phone didn't flash correctly. put the phone in bootloader mode (hold the comm manager, the voice dial button, and hit the small hole on the side at the same time...should bring you to the tri-color bootloader mode) and reflash butons 1.05. you need to keep reflashing until BOTH your IPL and SPL are 1.05. having different numbers is not a good thing.

This is an 8125 and I have been able to get to the bootloader screen by pressing the camera button and power together. I have an IPL of 1.01 and an SPL of 2.25. I have flashed the phone 3 times now and there has been no changes as to the SPL as of yet. I will go for another round on it. Has anyone else encountered this problem with G3 8125 Wizard??? I have seen similar problems while reading through the forums, although no solutions.
When you press the comm manager voice dial button and press the small hole on the side that is for a hard reset right? Anyways I have reloaded the button 1.05 rom and it still has 2.25 SPL any ideas????

how can it be cid unlocked if I have not succesfully gotten the phone to connect with activesync4.5 to be able to load the enablerapi file and run the lokiwiz.02b bat file??? This lack of connection to the AS is where I am stuck. From the read first sticky I should be loading the enablerapi file on and running the lokiwiz.bat file. I am not making a connection between the phone and the computer to be able to do that, at this time. I have now loaded the button rom on the phone 5 times and still no change in the SPL. What am I missing here????
One other thing that I noticed is that when I plug the USB into the Wizard it immediately trys and succesfully sets up a local area connection. It is currently set up as local area connection 5. This connection says that it is a windows mobile based device connection. What do you all make of this one??
currently these are my boot readings
IPL 1.01
SPL 2.25
GSM 01.12.10
OS 1.5.4.2
Cingular/ATT Customer
8125 HTC Wizard
MODEL 100
UPDATE!!!!! So the answer to my own thread for anyone that will run into this problem, for myself, was to load the button rom then remove activesync program from xp, then without reboot redownload activesync with the phone connected to usb, if it still does not come up reinstall button rom without reboot. Also disable ALL firewall and antivirus programs. This should get the activesync to see your device, and then it will try to connect. Just cancel the attempted sync connection and you will be on active sync as a guest. I hope this will help out some newbies.
I am experiencing the exact same issue. Any ideas??
Uninstall ActiveSync 4.5 and install an older version.
AS4.5 seems to have problems with some WM5 devices.

I tried 4.5, 4.2, and 3.8 all without luck. Any other ideas?
Tried on another XP machine and it worked using ActiveSync 4.2.Now if I can get activesync to connect to WM6 ...
Finally someone mentions the OS on the PC. That will help alot you know. well hope all is sorted out! Good luck
Well i've tried several different versions of activesync (3.8, 4.2, and 4.5 which is needed for WM6) uninstalling rebooting, connecting the device several times, rebooting both the laptop and the phone, and nothing seems to work on my newer Core 2 Duo laptop. It simply will not connect to the phone. It worked perfect _before_ the downgrade to the Button ROM though using activesync 4.2 and 4.5 to the Cingular ROM.
All works perfect on my older P4 laptop though, both run Windows XP SP2 btw. Button ROM connected first try. I'm thinking something may be wrong with the OS on my new laptop, so I may have to blow it out and start all over since it's the one I need to sync with...
At least I got the XDA WM6 r2a Rom, IPL/SPL 3.08, and Faria 2.69.11 installed and working without a hitch on the 8125 so its fully usable now. Now to keep plugging away till I can sync it on my main laptop.
Frustrating!
where can I find active sync 4.2? I'm stuck just like he is.
I got IPL 1.01 and SPL 3.08
i'm in bootscreen right now trying to reflash it, but nogo.. I can't get a connection with activesync, so the romloader program is not getting a good connection

How to Flash in BootLoader

I have a stuck image on my 8125. The phone "boots" but only shows a white screen, and is unusable.
The "a2sd all" restore option mentioned in the forums doesnt work for me. I have read on several forums that I should be able to reflash the OS from the bootloader, though I cant find any instructions on how to do this
Could someone point me in the right direction for how to flash an OS VIA bootloader?
Thx
1. Get the phone to bootloader (tree color mode) - I think by soft resetting and pressing the camera button at the same time
2. Connect it to the computer (Windows XP) with a USB cable
3. You will notice "USB" written in a lower corner of the phone (this means it is connected)
4. Now you can flash your provider's ROM without any problems
I am not sure whether the bootloader flashing is possible from Windows Vista.
You must flash normally (in bootloader you cannot use either shelltools or SoftSPL - so use your provider's ROM).
Mirek
Mirek - not to be totally ignorant, but the step 4 is what I'm having problems with .... where can I find either a providers ROM, or something that I can actually use while in bootloader mode?
Thanks!
NM ... Found it!
For anyone reading this .... You can get the provider ROM for the 8125 from HTCAmerica here: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8125/software-downloads.html
Thanks for your help!

I'm having problem with my Dopod 900(,Qtek 9000,HTC Universal,O2 Xda Exec,Jasjar ). Can somebody please tell me what to do?
Before this, every time somebody called, the PDA lost the network bar and start to search or network and reject the calls automatically and also i wasn't able to send SMS. Now, i tried to install WM6 crossbow, the phone even cannot be on !!! even when i connect it to the charger, even the light will not be on. the only page that i can see is a white page asks Press 0 to Restore factory default or press X to exit. either perss 0 or X, the phone will be off and i cant turn it on with power key....
Please tell me what can i do ?? I really need your help.
PLEASE REPLY, PLEASE.

WHAT did you downgrade from?
Did you re-unlock your G3?
How's your battery?

IPL/SPL 2.08? Does that exist? Do you mean 3.08?
Are you sure your device is a G3? Or you killed it when flashing Button's ROM?
