SSPL (or flashing any ROM 4 free) - P3600 Software Upgrading

This tool allow to flash your Trinity ROM bypassing CID and signature(*) check.
For flashing ROM copy SSPL-TRIN.exe to your device and run it. Standart bootloader prompt should appear on screen, check SPL version number: if it ends with ".ds" then everything is fine. (Re)attach usb cable and run firmware update utility.
In case if something goes wrong during flashing you should flash your device with ROM accepted by standard bootloader (and have another try if you wish).
(*) code must be formally signed i.e. contain properly-formated signatures on their places, however no checking are performed against them. Actualy unsigned code flashing was tested by flashing original signed nbh image with few bytes in header and extrom section modified, but patches were designed to accept any properly formatted crap as a valid signature.

Is that true ?

The Trinity update bypass works perfectly.
As for hermes i cannot test that one.
A minor thing i noticed that it doesn't return the current rom version to the romupdateutility just says "".
Great work

if you are asking 'bout trinity then yes. If 'bout hermes then I wanna know in too but I'm 90% shure that there would be no surprise. Anyway (please don't treat this as official acceptance of responsibility ) chance of bricking device is immeasurably low: in the wrost case SPL simply hangs unstarted (you could't do anything wrong in this case).

Afaik version number is retrieved by RUUGetInfo.exe started from CE. And you won't get this when you are starting your flashing on device already in SPL service mode (even with normal SPL).

As far as I understand, this will allow for flashing of any "cooked" firmware to above mentioned devices and some others..
Well, I have got few devices here ( as per my signature). Please let me know if more testing is required.

Yes it should. Have neither time nor expirence on cooking modern devices firmware (dump/restoreimgfs version that I have don't work on Trinity rom and I have no will to make it working unless forced to) so flashing realy "cooked" rom was not tested. But as mentioned above I was able to successfully flash original rom with some bytes modified and from signatures point of view this makes no difference with cooked ROM.

Noted. Thanks for your efforts.

Not at all. And I hope that ability to flash unsigned code to any device would create demand for rom cooking toolchain and it would be (if it havn't already) develoed to support newer roms.

Great...... work Des

HTC Breeze smartphone should be a good candidate, as it should be very similar to hermes & trinity.
Also you can try on Artemis, but artemis uses DOC and is quite a different platform.
I really give you many thanks for this great work and effort

To our gurus (DES, Olipro, lvsw, mun_rus, ...): Help me get started on ROM cooking

Hello,
I may be new to this scene but I am very interested in being a helpful member of this community. Specifically, I would like to make a german GPS-enabled ROM from a romdump.
I found a lot of very usefull information on this board and the wiki. However I'm a little afraid to brick my little P3600 in the process.
So here are my questions to the XDA-Developer gurus:
1) Any suggestions on what NOT to do, i.e. which actions can potentially brick a device
2) Can I take any safety precautions that make the ROM cooking life easier or safer?
3) Could one of you help me by chat (IRC, ICQ, MSN, Skype) in case I have some specific issues?
4) Any other comments, interesting howtos or must-reads?
Thanks in advance, I hope I'll be able to pull this off.
PS: Also if someone with a german GPS-enabled ROM reads this, please contact me! I need a romdump first

1) Use aChefs utils 2.0 only.
2) Don't forget to check your ouput OS.nb file with OCchecker by Olipro
3) You should have SPL 1.01 MFG, coz if your device doesn't boot you wont be able to use sspl for downgrade.
4) Read more about bootloader commands
5) Don't use special tytn's tools for rom coocking, coz there is some difference. You have big risk to brick your device if you flash it.
6) You need some resource editor tool and you should know how to sign the ouput files
7) You do all at your own risk
Thanks mun_rus that is very helpful.
Concerning 5): I intend to follow these tutorials:

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HowtoReconstruct
As far as I can tell all those tools are not TYTN-specific, right?
By the way, I think its great that you give "newbie"-cooks a chance. Maybe I'll soon be able to return something to this great community!

Use aChef tools for creating dump and reconstructing a rom) it's more easier
If by "aChef Tools" you mean this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294364&highlight=achef
I don't see any mention of a dumping tool. Maybe i used the term cooking wrong: I want to produce a flashable ROM from a ROM dump that somebody else will do.
In my mind the steps should be:
1) Dump german GPS ROM
2) Extract all files from part02.raw
3) Reconstruct os using any proper tool (you recommend aChef)
4) Check os.nb with OCchecker
5) Flash os.nb to my Trinity (install Hard-SPL first)
6) Flash radio ROM with GPS support to my Trinity (actually its already on there
7) Enjoy german GPS rom
8) Make it easy for others to flash, maybe package of OS and radio ROM.
Any corrections?

Sorry, not meant as a slam, but someone with only 21 posts, puts up a Rapidshare link for something to flash to a Wizard saying its HardSPL and no other instructions or information... Sorry (again, no offense meant by this) but I wouldn't flash something that is unexplained (if there is another post about this, then at least give a pointer to that in the first post).
FWIW: HardSPL is a way of making your device almost unbrickable. If it works like with the Hermes and Kaiser HardSPL, then you do the steps needed to install this, instead of the old CID unlock procedure of having to go back to the Button ROM and running lokiwiz.
But still, I'd be careful flashing something like this until more is known about it (the source, instructions for the method to install it, etc).
Totally agreed! I wouldn't go for it!
I don't mind to brick my wizard again!

Instructions are not present because I do not wish to be responsible for another's nonsense. To whom it is necessary that will understand.

No offense to the OP, but "read my other posts" doesn't tell us much. Your other posts are just like this one. Short and to the point, no real info given...nothing telling me how to install/run it. Nothing troubleshooting if an issue should arise. Read the Loki thread, or Dr. P's tutorial...everything anyone needs to know about Loki is there. Yours...not so much.

Guys dont bombard like this , Prislav has always presented raw content like this in Prophet forum also. Maintaining the terminology, just see diagram, might be useful- simple
But im not favouring any one. please!

Well this thread seems nice and hostile .
Unless I am missing something all Prislav has done is to use JumpSPL by Pof (Nice WinCE Tramp by the way ) to fire off a patched G3 SoftSPL and from there let you launch into the ROM update routine.
Prislav’s post may have been a little short on details but there is plenty of info on the board and in his previous threads on the subject. Pof's JumpSPL thread is also a goldmine of info.
Prislav also seems to have been kind enough to provide a patched 'flashable' SPL for G3 devices.
I have not tried this yet (my G3 junkers are at home, so I will tonight) but looking at the dumps of the files and the steps that Prislav has gone through I think this should work.
The SoftSPL seems to contain nothing dangerous and I test launched it on a G4 I have on my desk to no adverse affect (in fact it did almost what I expected, not sure it is putting the device into the correct 'wait for USB' state mind you but it does answer to prods from MTTY ).
Looking at the way the file is patched (and my limited knowledge in this area may let me down, I am more of an ARM Linux hacker) is very interesting. It also looks very much like this could be wrapped into a SoftSPL flashtool that just soft patches a G3 before flashing (and also gives users a choice to flash a HardSPL if wanted, just like we do with G4’s and most modern HTC devices).
Ok,
Just an update to my last post,
I found an old G3 with a broken keyboard under my desk. IPL/SPL 2.17, ancient radio and AKU2.
SoftSPL via JumpSPL from Pof/Prislav seems to work fine .
Converted the Hard-SPL.nb to an nk.nbf (with just the SPL in it).
Flashed the resulting nk.nbf.
Device is now running a patched SPL (2.H4).
Just upgraded device to WM6 from an off the shelf ROM (had Jag 4.0 handy) using the usual NVID update tool.
The end result is an old, unhacked WM5 G3 upgraded to WM6 in a matter of mins.
Download: I will edit this post when I get home and have had a chance to upload the files to my site. - Stuck at work right now.
Edit @ 22:00, 17th Jan: Download is now up here. Use with care and don't come crying to me (or Prislav ).
HowTo: Install PatchedSPL on a G3 Wizard (or just run a SoftSPL if you flash another OS ROM at step 7 with the included flash tool).
Warning: I have only tried this with 2.* IPL’s/SPL’s, I can’t be sure it will not brick devices running 3.* or 1.* IPL’s/SPL’s. It will be a few days before I can test this so if you have a 3.* or 1.* bootloader I would suggest you leave this well alone. Do not try this on a G4, there is no point and you may well brick it .
1: Install latest ActiveSync (If you’re upgrading from WM5-6 your going to need it)
2: Download the rar from my website.
3: Copy the contents of the “Copy to root of G3 Wizard device” folder to the ROOT of your Wizard using ActiveSync.
4: From File Explorer run the SPL shortcut from the root of the device.
5: Wait for the screen to go white (you are now running a patched SoftSPL running from RAM),
6: Unplug and reconnect the USB lead to the PC (you can check the connection with MTTY if your so inclined).
7: Wait a few seconds and start the ROM upgrade in “Flash-WizG3-PatchedSPL”.
If all goes well this will work just like a normal ROM update (without anything shown on your Wizard’s screen) and your device will reboot after a few mins.
Check the version of the SPL running, if it is SPL version 2.H4 all should be fine and your now running a CID unlocked device that can take any Wizard ROM.

To be honest, very little. Both leave you free to flash a ROM of your choice .
This just uses the same 'methods' as used with newer HTC devices and the G4 Wizards.
It will also be easy enough to wrap with ROM's to create 'G3' SoftSPL upgrades that flash to any G3 device without messing about. Just grab the installer, drop your nb.nbf of choice and run the upgrade.
I'll try and bundle up such an installer tonight if I get time.
Hmmm, why do I feel like I have hijacked this thread .
John
So You mean:
You can Create such an installer than given a certain NBF (OS) does even the CID unlock itself.
It would be great

(Newbie) - A couple of questions before flashing my HD

I posted this deep in another thread (a sticky), but I think it fits better as a new topic because it is not specific to that other thread. I'll make a note in the other thread to avoid duplicates.
Okay....
I'm absolutely new to the world of ROMs and SPL, HSPL, SSPL and USPL - but I've been doing my homework today and I've read all of the wiki links more than once.
Before diving into it and making some dumb newbie mistake, I wanted to run a couple of things by you guys.
I have the German o2 ROM 1.14.207.2 (24011) GER.
I don't want the o2 branding, but I still want it in German.
So, I want to flash RUU_BlackStone_HTC_GER_1.14.407.3_Radio_52.49a.25. 26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
My understanding is that since these are both stock ROMs (at least I believe they both are, right?), my stock SPL should accept the new ROM without any problems. In other words, I don't need anything like USPL. Am I correct? Or do I actually need USPL because the new ROM is not from my current vendor which is o2?
Based on what I learned reading all the info, this is what I plan to do:
Turn off my phone, remove SIM and MicroSD
Enter boot mode (tricolor screen)
connect phone via usb to WMDC (Vista 32-bit). The settings are set to ALLOW usb connections
Disable my antivirus program
Disable all power saving modes, screensavers etc.
Run the RUU Ship.exe mentioned above as administrator
Follow instructions until device reboots
So now my warranty should still be fine. If I have to send the device in for repair, to I need to put the o2 ROM back on it?
Thanks for your help (and patience) with a newbie that scared to turn his HD into a brick. I think I'll wear diapers while I'm flashing - just in case.
I'll wait for some responses before I tackle the 7 steps above.

No, thats not true at all. For instance you can't flash a WWE Rom over a German Rom, although they are both stock roms. There is a country specific code (CID). The stock SPL is checking this, so its impossible to flash roms coming from another country.
I'm not sure if the stock SPL also checks the vendor/operator, but I guess it does.

You should just try it. The SPL will tell you whether it accepts the rom or not.

First of all you should consider which SPL you want to use. If you really just want to flash this new rom, USPL is good for you, if you are going to change your rom more frequently then HSPL is the way to go.
Instructions on how to use this SPLs are given in the appreciate threads (with many comments of other users), so you should look them up (again).

You warrany is fine, if the operator/vendor gets the device with the rom he shipped it to you (or any official upgrade provided by this operator/vendor). If you flash the official htc german rom, you might loose your warranty.

Read the USPL thread carefully - you have to disable allow usb connections. In vista you will probably find that you will have to downgrade the USB drivers - that is dealt with in Post 69 of the USPL thread - see also post 1 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723

yes, I had read that about disabling usb connections. I just thought that if I did not need USPL then I could leave usb connections enabled and try the other german ship.exe rom. Anyway, I think might need to alter the SPL anyway.
THANK YOU ALL for your responses. They were very helpful and it is time for me to get working on it when I get home.
I will post back my results.
Well, everything worked out fine.
I ended having to use USPL because my SPL did not accept the new stock ROM (same language, but different vendor: o2 vs. non-branded).
I did have to downgrade my vista drivers for it to work. I followed all the wiki instructions and had no problems.
Thanks again for the help.

SIM Unlock help...

Hi all,
I had an O2 XDA Stellar which I believe is the HTC TYTN II. However, this phone was stolen a couple of weeks back. I purchased a second hand one today which is sim locked to the orange network. I managed to break the lock by following the instructions on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835. I followed the instructions word for word till step 5.
The problem is now though it accepts the SIM and I can dial out, I don't have any audio on the calls So I can call and my phone also rings when I receive a call but I can't hear the caller nor can I be heard at the other end
Also, I hate the orange rom (and I used to complain about the O2 rom) and I wish to use the default HTC WM 6.1 professional upgrade the problem again is that it asks for a serial number and my serial number starts with DCOxxxxxxxxxxx and it says that this is not a valid serial number
What do I do now? Has my phone become a brick Please do help I can't bear the thought of having one stolen and the other toasted by me
All help will be greatly appreciated

Did you actually read anything or did you just start hacking away ? I will cut and paste a few items out of that thread, so that you don't have to actually read it .
PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
* IF YOU DONT NEED TO FLASH A NEW ROM THEN PROCEED TO STEP 6 TO PUT YOUR DESIRED RADIO BACK*
7. After I flash a Rom I dont have any sound in calls and the camera is black
The Radio has to match the version of Rom you flash i.e. WM6.1, an incorrect Radio will give sound and camera problems. Read The Ultimate Radio Thread to find a Radio that matches the Rom there are lots to try on there if one doesnt work then try another.
3. What are the different types of Unlock?[/B] (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash HardSPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Obviously you did not unlock your phone if a serial number is needed to flash a new rom. I would re read everything and do it again
Thanks for the reply

No your phone isn't busted. Go into bootloader and check what it says next to spl, if you followed Mark's steps, it should say 3.29 Hard. If that is what it says ,then you can flash any Kaiser rom you want. If it doesn't then start over again.
WWE stands for World Wide English and those roms are all in English. That rom you picked will be fine, if you do not wish to explore the fine world of custom roms ? Maybe later.
You only have to CID unlock once by following the steps, not at every rom flash.
No sound means wrong radio, 6.0 roms need 6.0 radios and 6.1 roms need 6.1 radios. If the rom has a radio in it already then flash away.
Thanks Denco Flashed the ones I mentioned and it works perfect. Can't believe I actually have a working device Thanks for all your help, really great.
Now to sync my data to my new (second hand) htc and I'm good to go
Another question, the device works fine, however since it is a HK rom, it seems to have localised to HK. I've changed this as much as possible to UK. However, I'm wondering if this will affect anything else? For example the gps? Is there any quicker way to configure this globally so all settings use UK instead of HK?
Why didn't you flash the latest UK ROM.
Use this code: HT750GB02264 to download from HTC's site.

Once you are unlocked and HardSpl'd you can flash any rom you want. Pick a UK one another WWE rom or a custom rom. Test a bunch until you have one you like. Your only restriction is it has to be a Kaiser rom. And with all the Kaiser roms available, it is not a restriction at all.

Wow, thanks for that, I was looking for a valid serial through which I can download from the htc uk site One question I had is do I install the radio which I download from htc? Or do I keep the one I have already flashed? The one I have flashed yesterday seems to be a later version than what I've downloaded from htc

1. I keep hearing on this forum about Hard SPL, I'm not sure what this is used for or why it is required but I followed the instructions and it seems I had installed JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe. Now, since then I had flashed the rom, so do I need to reinstall this again? Is there some other one I should be using? I come across different versions on some threads. Also, how can I check the version of HardSPL I have?
2. When I view the memory (under settings) it shows me Storage and Program. However, I can't seem to see any storage area in file explorer. I know in my old xda 2i, there used to be a separate storage area. The reason is because some of the apps I install are quite bulky for example lexisgoo english dictionary (the dictionary files themselves are about 18mb) and this fills up the main memory. How can I install this in the storage memory? (not storage card since I sometimes swap storage cards)
Sorry lot of questions I know, but I'm a newbie and all help will be greatly appreciated
The UK downloaded ROM will install the radio too.
I would do a bit of testing with your current set-up, then flash the UK ROM.
Test the new UK ROM & radio & then reflash the radio only if you want (do some searching on Radio versions)
Newer versions are not always best, chasing the latest builds normally bites you in the ass at the end of the day.
Check HardSPL by going into bootloader:
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone along with the camera button
* Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears
* Exit bootloader by pressing soft reset button
Once you have installed HardSPL thats it, job done (you installed it during unlocking)
What you see in file explorer regarding storage is correct: 128MB RAM for running software ect & 256MB ROM for storing your programs ect (WM2003SE was different)
ROM can be increased by using one of the cooked lite ROMs if storage space is a concern.

Will do, the HK version seems very stable, the only thing that bothers me is the region settings. Anyway, I think I'll give the UK Rom a go and if that works well I'll stick with it

TBH, I don't know what any of that means But do you think the version I have is ok, or do I need to upgrade this to some other version?

I've attached a screenshot of my memory screen. The bit that puzzles me is that the storage area apparently has a lot more storage but I do not have an option to install all my applications on that area or atleast the bulky ones. I don't think I need a lite one since I do have 112MB free in the storage area which is more than sufficient for all the apps I usually install. Can you advise how I can install apps to the storage area as well?
Lastly, I was wondering if it is possible for me install my apps on the rom and then kind of take an image of my setup and flash the rom with this setup. That way when I do a hard reset, all my apps are installed again. Which will save me the trouble I know sprite backup does something like this but I'd prefer if it was in the rom
Thanks for all your help, it has given me a lot of confidence in these matters. Something I probably wouldn't have attempted

I agree 101% and it appears fewer resources are put into ironing out bugs in the WM 6.1 ROMs than the WM 6.0 ones. I replied to fmervin's post in the ROM forums along these lines.
If all is running OK I would stick with your current HardSPL.
When installing your applications choose the option of installing to "Device"
You could install all your apps into a ROM, this would be cooking a ROM & is a complex process.
I would suggest a backup via Sprite or SPB. I use SPB v2.0 build3065 & it works well for me, preference of backup software is a bit of a Marmite scenario, you either love it or hate it.

You can't do that, it is flash memory. It's not like you can partition the hard drive.
But this is the easiest way to get your Apps and settings back after a flash.
Try this Sashimi Auto installer by a former XDA member. It is a nice little program that installs all your apps after a flash

Help Please
Hey Denco..Than'x for considering my thread & giving out suggestion towards the link to check the info. But i m really nt that techy afterall so i can burn a ROM on my Tytn II. Even though i tried to burn a RUU rom that supports TyTN II ..Its just gets disconnected from USB mode..So i was looking forward to start it initially with some comparatively easier to install .cab files..Can't these RUU files be transformed into .cab files or maybe some other version of Manila 3D cab file that is completely fixed...I seriously have done a lot of research upon this but nothing looks like working. So please if you have some links to .cab files that can give a better & different look to my Kaiser running Windows 6.1...It'l be a great help !!
Than'x & regards in advance

I think you need to decide what it is that you want to accomplish. Unless you cook your own rom, there is no way to add apps to the rom ( so that they will remain after a hard reset) Your rom is wyour phone's base operating system, it contains your OS (WM 6.1 ) and can only be replaced after completely erasing and replacing all files from the previous rom.
If it is a new rom you want, pick a rom that interests you and follow these instructions verbatim .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Your phone will go to the bootloader screen ( three color) and it will disconnect from usb during the process, but be patient until the end. When it says it takes ten minutes, it takes ten minutes. Leave the room if you have to , to keep from getting impatient.
If you just want to keep your OEM WM 6.1 and keep it simple, but change the look of your phone try this,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Manila+2D+and+M2D+Themes
This will change the look and feel of your phone with uninstallable .cab files and will not affect the rom or brick your phone by accident.

[SSPL][DFT] HowTo flash custom OS

DarkForcesTeam SSPL for HTC Photon (Mini)
SSPL allows you to flash custom [not-signed] OS or/and ignore CID check.
How safe is it?
We disabled SPL and Radio flashing, so it can only flash Splashes and OS images.
(To all hackers out there... don’t enable it! else you will BRICK your device)
Worst case is that you destroy your OS partition, in that case you must flash a ship ROM using the original SPL (Vol down on boot run ruu from PC )
We did our best to make it save, else we would not release it for public testing, but anyway, all on your own risk!
How to use it:
Download the SSPL_RUU.exe and put it into an empty folder
Add the RUU_signed.nbh that you want to flash to your device into the same folder
Connect the device to the PC, device must be running WM, not show the 3 color screen
Run SSPL_RUU.exe
Troubleshooting:
If you don’t see USB at the bottom of the device screen and the ruu showed a connection error, disconnect the device and connect it again... USB should be there now.
Then just run the SSPL_RUU.exe again, flashing will start now
If the flashing breaks before 100%, stay cool! ... Reset the device and go to Boot loader, then flash a ship rom to the device (Must be the right rom, with the right CID)
Don’t forget to report that it happened... after you flashed the original ROM back, you can try again.
It is possible, that sometimes the screen stays black for 15sec or more before the SSPL 3 color screen shows, if it takes too long, do reset and try again and please report that!!!!
"Your OS ROM isn't customized for your hardware. Please reflash the proper ROM code or contact the service center", !!! Problem NOT related to this SSPL !!! ... this means that you flashed a region protected rom... flash back to a ship ROM for your device and stick to ROMs with your region ID... or patch them
(You might have to remove the battery after flashing back, else it might not boot up)

No, you don't need a gold car with this method. Just follow the instructions and everything will be fine
If this sspl allow us to flash custom roms, then what will the hspl allow us to do?
one hint: i think you need admin rights. i normally work without and ran into connection troubles. but this is no issue on sspl since i ran into connection troubles with the official ringtone update as well.
running the sspl with admin-rights worked very well for me. Thanks a lot!

Following the instructions I wasn't able but I've tried several time (even with the 3 color screen and without the SSPL was able to get the current ROM) and i had success. Cheers.
