Anyone got any problem when upgrading Rom on WIndows Vista and using the Windows Mobile Device Center instead of the traditional ActiveSync? It won't seems to connect to the device again once the device is restarted into the RGB screen [after the starting the Rom upgrade process]. After a few seconds, it got the connection error code on your PC. I soft reset the device and no upgrade has been installed. Any ideas?
I try removing the connect via USB check box and use Mtty to check the connections to my device. But after I have done that, the PC won't connect my device to my computer at all... hence, I can't get use Mtty to check the connections.
So I have no idea why this is happening on Vista. It works fine when I am using my old XP computer when I upgrade to the test ROM. Any suggestions will be appriciated. Thanks a lot of your help in advance.

Looking to upgrade to Windows Vista? You might just want to keep an XP partition on your machine, as ROM upgrades via the normal RUU client do NOT work from within Vista, due to changes in the way the OS accesses the device. This also prevents IMEI-check unlocks from working on Vista.

Anyone have any idea my happen here?
Hope someone can help me out, and i really appreciate.
If you use RegEdit to add a key called "WHOS" under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft key in the registry, connect your Windows Mobile 5.0 device and go to Windows Update, a new 7.0MB update will be available that enables Windows Mobile Device Center. This should let you do the update.
I done it already, like im say i can run the windows mobile based device with no problem for sync with my phone but when i try to upgrade the rom, the rom program will say error no usb connection. hope this will make it clear. thanks for ur help.

Hi, did download (the latest on MS website), install and use it without any trouble. It found my exchange setting on my BA and applied them without even asking me! This was last night, will see what happens today!
@ daddy_yankee1980: It is an upgrade to Vista with all the verification required, so even if it is uploaded you will have to be online and connected to MS website (I think).
it is "Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Driver for Windows Vista"
not the app
All the beta branding is gone from the application too - so I think its both driver and app.
Maybe you are right, i wont use vista just yet they have to fix a lot of bugs until i start to use it daily
here is links for both builds
x86
amd64
I'm currently using the Helmi AKU3.5 1.4Beta with no sucess to be detected, what rom are you using ?
Are you running the final version of the WMDC ?
Still problems with Vista
I installed the Windows Vista Mobile Device Driver Update Final, but my MDA Vario I is not connected. It is not recognized anyway. Any ideas how to solve this issue?
Thanks.

RUU
I am using Vista with final WMDC released driver with O2 Atom.
I am able to properly sync. No problems. However I am not able to update the ROM. It goes upto the sensing screen to display the current ROM on device and to be updated ROM info. etc. In the next screen it hangs and after some time of about 1 minute the device update utility says that it is not able to update the device. I even disable the firewall to check if it is issue with firewall. But nope no help. I again checked it with windows xp and active sync v. 4.2 where everything works perfect so no issues with O2 atom.
Any help is appreciated.
SX66 WM5 synched successfully
I installed Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista Ultimate and successfully synchronized my SX66 running WM5. In addition, I sychnronized my Mail with Outlook 2007. However, it appears that there is no backup utility. When I checked the help for WMDC, it only shows how to backup a "Windows Mobile 2003 powered device". Is there some other way I can backup my system? Maybe another tool. I am going to try to use ActiveSync 4.1 tomorrow, which is installed on my work computer.
I'm still not able to sync in Vista with WMDC. My BA is saying:
Connection Not Valid: unable to open the connection '`USB'. This Connection is no longer valid or does not exist. Select a different connection and try again.

Since I just installed WM5 on my SX66, I was unaware that AciveSync does not backup WM5 devices. I purchased Spb Backup and that works better anyways.
It Works
When I plugged my device in today, the system was able to find drivers. All is good now.
I was performing the radio update on my MDAIII and now he hangs in the bootloader with USB in the upper middle und 2.08 in the under middle. All resets won`t bring it back to life. If I try to reinstall the update all I get is a blank message screen (update from version to version) in my Vista. How can I get out of there.
I did everything what was stated here
The original BAUpgradeUT won`t find my device. The MAUpgradeUt_noID.exe gives me the blank screen with the update from to screen.

I'm using a Vista PC.
After the Radio update to 1.15 the error described above is not to go away yet.
What to do, I'm nearly in tears.
Finally I got it back but with an old Romupdate from T-Online. Is there someone who got the QTC 9090 update (latest one)
That was fast..
im glad you solved your problem.
i think someone here has it.
just post what you need and make it as a title for others to read in the digest.
Im not a expert but is vista the problem??
Most likely.
Failed MDA II flash with vista notebook
Hello everybody,
I just read this thread in hope to find a solution for my problem, which is quite similar to the one described here initially.
I got a used MDA III with T_Mobile ROM. Since I'm a customer with O2, I wanted to change the ROM to O2 as well. I followed the directions given in an other thread here (don't have the link just now) and during the flashing, the flash application suddenly had no connection to my MDA III anymore. It was securely settled in its craddle an connected to my laptop via USB. Now my MDA III is stuck in Bootloader Mode with USB v2.07 displayed on the screen.
Each retry of installing either the O2 or the T_Mobile ROM now meet with the error 101: no connection. I read here that you managed to update successfully with a vista pc. Thus I wanted to ask, how you did that since I just don't seem to find the reason for the connection failing each time.
Here is what i tried to establish connection so far:
* disabled virus scanner & firewall
* unplugged the mda III and plugged it in again. It was recognized as a new device but that didn't help the connection issue
Could you please post what you did to make the update work under vista? Help would be greatly appreciated

Try on computer with Windows XP and kill activesynk (wcecomm.exe on taskmanager/processes)
Maybe it will work. If u cant flash O2 ROM try to use "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe". On my Qtek 9090 allways flash using this APPS and allways work.
U can try too format device first, put it on candle and use "mtty1.42.exe". On XP, kill active sync, and open mtty1.42.exe and select port USB and put OK. Do "Enter" on command and should appear USB>. After this write Task 28. This will format all your PC. Try install SO after this. This command delete all files on PPC. I have attach files that you maybe need.
thankfor the tipp and sorry for my late reply. Since I have no XP PC available i tried the mtty1.42.exe on my vista notebook. When i run it however, it only lists com port 1-3, no usb port. Do i have to make a special configuration on vista for it to work?
Thanks in advance,

In vista i dont know...sorry for my late reply too.... in XP u must kill ActiveSync process called wincecom.exe. in vista, maybe u have to kill the Windows Mobile Device Center....i dont know...
Dont forget, put the Qtek 9090 in Boot Loader Mode (Pressing Power Button + Record Button + Reset), maybe will appear USB and u can format the device.
If this does not work, try on Windows XP....Find a friend with Windows XP and ask him to use his PC only to do that.
Maybe somebody in forum have the Windows Vista and can help u....
Sorry my terrible english....

Try this
Downlaod the XDA IIs .exe file and run it - no need to put into USB mode
http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/conn...es+&+accessories/Xda+Range/Software+upgrades/
this should reset to factory default (o2)
it runs on vista too
I am not 100% sure it will work but worth a try

Hello I am new here and a noob in the scene. I was trying to upgrade my Trinity D810 with my Vista Ultimate 32Bit. And I keep on getting the same error after going into the 3 Color screen (on my D810). Is there any solution?
And If possible can it not involved installing XP juz to get it to work? Cause I lost my copy of XP.
Goto www.trinityguides.info and it explains how to get it working in Vista, you need to install different drivers and it will work, I am using Vista and have the Dopod ROM on it
Thanks.
But I have been trying to follow the guide there.
But I can't seem to undate the drivers of XP on to my Mobile.
My connection from my PC to my Mobile is only through USB, and if I follow the guide, I cannot update the drivers as it ask me to not authorize USB connections.
I'm at a lost of what to do now.
I think you need to read it again, You should be changing the drivers in Vista for the HTC drivers from the USBAS folder, Then after you turn off usb connections in WMDC it uses the USBAS driver to connect. I found that I had to update the drivers every time I wanted to change a ROM.
Hi all,
Sorry if this has already been covered.
Can anyone tell me if they have sucessfully installed a new ROM when running Windows through Virtualbox? My current OS is Ubuntu and from what i have read there are only limited sync functions with Linux.
Also can i install a ROM on a sim locked handset? My handset is in Orange UK, and i plan on keeping the Orange SIM in it. The only other handset i installed a ROM on was a vanilla TYTN so sim lock wasn't an issue.
Thanks in advance

Yes , I've mate bit in different setup i have Vista 64bit so i can't use it flash my TOuch HD so i used my vmware xp to flash my phone and it work fine
so i hope is should for virtual box too
If ActiveSync works in your virtual environment, then it should go smoothly. You can also flash your TouchHd without vbox. Just copy (in massive storage device mode which ubuntu should recognize straight away) blacimg.nbh on the memory card and restart phone pressing vol down button.
i think it should work

Yes. If you run HardSPL or USPL you can install pretty much any cooked rom currently available to your phone. This bypasses all that locking crap

Why can't you use Vista 64bit to flash? Mine works perfectly.
Thanks for all your help. I've installed ActiveSync (WMDC) on the the Windows 7 beta but can't get it to recognise my handset through vBox. Possibly a Win7 issue or just my set up. I'll create a Vista box and try that.
@ Sidewinder - Can you run the HardSPL from flash or does it need ActiveSync?
Thanks again
I want to bring up the old topic because I have problems attaching my Touch HD to VirtualBox guest OS.
My host OS is Windows 7 and guest OS - Windows XP SP3.
HTC storage works pretty well I I'm selecting Disk Drive after connecting my device to PC.
ActiveSync also works well in my VBox. In that case I'm selecting Devices-> USB Devices -> Generic NDIS. The phone disappears from Host OS and appears in VirtualBox. Active Sync recognizes it and everything's OK.
But if I want to flash my phone I need to press vol down and then power on. After doing that I'm connecting my phone to PC. Host OS recognizes it as Qualcomm device. Serial changes to USB on my phone.
And then I'm trying to add that new USB device called "Qualcomm .. something" to vbox. When I'm doing it - vbox guest OS screen freezes and nothing happens.
Any ideas how to solve that? Do I need to install HTC drivers (modified drivers) for my Windows 7 host OS?

My PC is now mine. It is in domain and controlled by AD and GPO and bitlocker is ON. So I can't press F8 during boot to select "disable driver signatures". So the only option - flash it from Virtual machine in my case. Unless flash it from SD card (which I don't like).
