hello
i have setup a website www.our-xda.co.uk as a portal for downloading roms and other cool stuff that used to be available from xda-developers ftp site.
i have started by uploading artemis roms etc the phone i actually have but in order to be effective i need other roms from the other devices. please can users with these devices log-on to the website and upload whatever they have and i will make them available for others to share and so we can continue to develop these devices.
thanks
l6cum
I can already see someone at Microsoft copying and pasting the old letter to xda-developers.... Check your inbox.

Dearest Trinity users,
I've taken the liberty of uploading all the current ROMs onto RapidShare for our downloading pleasure. I've also updated the wiki with links to all the new locations so that when the files are removed from the XDA hosted FTP we'll still have a place to get a hold of the files. I believe this will be the easiest, quickest method as opposed to using Torrents. That way we don't need any extra software to download the files and no seeders will be needed, either. If the links to these files will ever be required to be removed from the wiki along with the FTP files, I still have the full list of download locations so we can move the info onto any page we would need in the future.
Thanks

Seems like a good idea
Good idea. And actually a great counterblow against the Microsoft's hostile plans to limit the availability of ROMs.
Maybe they will next to try close whole internet because there _MAY_BE_ some software available that hurts Microsoft's business..

But that would be perfectly reasonable. The thing is that no-one is hurting Microsoft's business making those ROMs available. Quite the opposite: this site and those unofficial ROMs have contributed to the success of Windows Mobile.
But to be honest in this case I think that Microsoft is acting to please the companies that license Windows Mobile (i.e. the network operators) more than themselves. The network operators don't like sites where you can learn how to unlock phones and replace their branded software and it's easy to understand why.
Great!!

Very well thought out and well spoken.
But no worries, just means we have a couple more hoops to jump through.
Why not share them in a filesharing network (emule, torrent, etc)?
Then, it would be a real "community project" and it would be not so easy to bring them down...
All files should contain "xda-dev" so they could be easy to find.
Just my 2 cents

Yep that's true also. I'm open for plenty of other options besides RapidShare. I'm thinking of RapidShare as more of a temporary solution while XDA is forced to start deleting all the ROMs from their FTP server.
some of you may or may not know of the winmodevelopers site, its lke ths website but for non htc devices
ok for the past few months we've been having issues
the software we use (IPB v1.3 final) has a few flaws we werent aware of when the site was set up
t doesn't nativley support uploading cab files (a very mportant factor)
as its the last free version so cannot be upgraded wthout cost
you may wonder why im beng so stingy its because we simply cannot afford it
we have so far received no donations as weve always been hosted for free
so the problem we have is we have a domain donated by a member here (Quicksite)
we have phpbb whch is free our forum but what we really need is free places to put the installation
so our opton s to go back to a free phpbb bundle so t can be updated and support cab files
or do i wait for donations for hostng?????
any ideas?????????
I dont think so...
I cant imagine how a new web can be supported by the members...
Money i mean, by donations...
We need to wait till itself grows up...
Many improvements have been set and is nice but many people has HTC devices... the NON htc are minor...
Dont give up men! if you say that we must to move to another free hosting site... we will backup all data... then reupload it... but it cant be three times in a year...
thats another issue the ste we have at the mo provdes no backup facilites whchs means have to do it manually, i thn we my just stick to forum we have now until we pckup members and interest
For the last 6 months I've been hosting files for developers in the Eris section. I made the site to people wouldn't have to use all that MultiUpload crap, got sick of the waiting 60 seconds to download a file, entering a verification code, etc etc.
Anyways, the site's worked well. You can direct link to your files, upload everything via a simple web interface.
I just thought I'd offer the site to developers in other forums now.
http://android.grdlock.net
Anyways, if you're interested in using it to host your files, just make a username on the site real quick, shoot me a PM, and I'll give it upload permissions.
And no, this isn't an advertisement or anything. People in the Eris section have just liked using the website over MultiUpload, so I thought I'd offer to let other people use my bandwidth as well.
GrdLock, you are the MAN! I was in the Eris section before, and appreciated having the hosting you set up for the developers. It made things so much easier. Thanks!!
Its nice to see you back GrdLock! Thanks for the hosting while I had my Eris, I used your site A LOT. Very simple and easy to navigate, Much appreciated!
Welcome back.
Now, Its time to get you to start deving on the X!
Great to see you pop up over here Grdlock! Your site, all the great devs and just the support community in general at the XDA Eris section will have anybody spoiled. Good to see familiar faces over here ,we got Lexus Brian AKA "Beesley™" in da house. Things are looking better and better over here in the Droid X section.
I tripped across a great upload site for all our developers, it's MADE to upload large files at a time, and i fell across it while looking for a file for some software . Anywho, so far it's been very reliable to me and i've managed to upload tons of (legal) files via in the site. Let me know how everyone likes it!
https://wetransfer.com/
It's flash player based.!!
I believe that only people using Android or desktops can use it.
aww okay, i thought that people with winmo7 OS's have to flash the ROMs via desktop/pc?
Hi
I see alot of developers uploading their roms to free sites like hotfile, megashare and depositfiles. The problem is that these sites wont give users a pleasent download if the user is not a premium member.
Therefor; I would like to offer free webhosting for rom developers. I am planning that it should be ad free and with direct links. But i need your help.
I would like to host a system, so that I can create users on my site, so they can login, upload files and retrieve download links. note that many developers would like to have statistics on their downloads, so that should be possible too.
I dont know what system I should use, also, it's not that hard to make one from scratch, I just dont have the time.
I can provide mysql databases too if necessary.
Also, lets vote for a domain name :highfive:
I think there are already some platforms where you can upload and share your roms.
e.g. http://goo.im/ or google project hosting...
Also you did not mention what you would like to call your hosting service
rom-service.com
rom-service.org
rom-download.org
or something like that

Actually it's not just for roms, devs can upload whatever they like.
I have 750gb storage and 750gb bandwith. I am not even using 10gb ea. It's a shame to not put it in good use.
