I am very confused reading all the foroums, both Kaiser and Cruise.
I really dont know which one to buy.
My only concern for Kaiser is its weight and thickness. I dont mind the lack of FM radio on Kaiser. But the keyboard is it really handy.
On the other hand can you really type on cruise without the keyboard?
Is there any difference on the screen. I mean, is the Screen of the Cruise more touch sensitive? Is the Cruise more responsive to finger tapping?
Also, Is there any difference using them in direct sunlight?
Apart from the keyborad and FM radio are there any other significant differences? The Cube u can also have on Kaiser.
Please advise
Thanks
Well because of this site you can probably have teh cube on any device you want almost, so that shouldn't be a decision maker.
As for responsivness, this can be changed via software on the devices, (screen sensitivty, touchflo gesture delays, etc). Not device specific i dont believe.
Yes, the kaiser is a little thicker and heavier, but no matter what device i have, its going in the same pocket or hand, regardless of size.
My guess is that the screen material is the same for most devices, so i don't see that being a difference either.
AS for the cruise keyboard, i am assuming it will use the same keyboard the htc Touch has, the big button on screen keyboard. This you canalso get for the Kaiser, though right now it's having its problems with the xt9 functionality sometimes. I use PocketCM keyboard with an XL touch skin that makes it better for 1 thumb screen typing.
I don't think you should be worried about apps that come with either device.
As you said, the big differences are FM radio/hardware keyboard/weight. I guess it depends what you want more.
As for other hardware i don't know what the cruise has, maybe the same, but i do know the kaiser is full hardware buttons and dial for scrolling, etc. I love all the hard buttons as you have 4-5 ways of navigating your device depending on how you are holding it. on screen taping, cube navigation, left side buttons for navigation, front face plate buttons for navigating, stylus for navigating.
They hardware keyboard on tytn ii was really what sold me, and the tilting screen. i MUST have a hardware keyboard, and this one is huge.
thank you very much...was very helpful.

YOu can look at the kaiser upgrading section for Kaiser, or development and hacking. Just read as much as you can you will learn a lot and it ends up being very easy if you follow instructions. Also use the search function of hte forum.
People rip the cube application from Touch and make an installation file so you can install on whatever device. They even make apps so you can configure what buttons do what, what gestures (left to right, top to bottom, etc) do what. It's really quite amazing.
Another fellow made a cube clone out of Flash which was customizable. THe same fellow is now working on a new cube clone that is ridiculously fast compared to his flash cube and the original htc cube, where you can customize also.
Developers on this site are amazing and do a great job of getting us apps that other devices come with. New people like yourself, and me awhile ago, don't realize that just because the Touch has cube navigation, doesn't mean our kaiser can't have it. THe devices may look totaly different on the outside, but on the inside they are almost the same.
Hi all
I am thinking of getting this phone when it is released in the uk. but i really only have one issue which i want your opinions on, and that is whats the typing like on the screen (i use a iphone at the mo and its really good) has anyone used both, if so are they the same.
any help on this would be great
Many thanks
Neel
No, they're not the same. With diamond it's quite pointless to type without stylus, because you'll make too many mistakes. I use full qwerty keyboard and stylus, works well.
I to have both an iPhone and a Diamond and I can confirm that they're definitly not the same. The iphone is a lot better when typing, part of that comes from the larger screen but also the sensitivity. If you require typing a lot, I'd stick with the iphone or get a device that has a HW keyboard. Such as the upcoming touch pro.

I type without the styles, using full qwerty and that works fine for me. It also helps to do some registry tweaks on pressure settings of the touch screen. The iphone's touch interface is more responsive though.
I use the compact qwerty with T9 activated and I find it quicker than using my previous phone (Nokia N73).
I have the ipod touch and I am not able to write with just one hand on it, and that bugs me... but with the diamond I can type with just one hand and the compact qwerty (2 letters per buttom). I think it's just a personal preference...
First of all the Diamond has been officially released in the UK for about a good week or so....i have one.
Secondly i use the full qwerty keyboard and have absolutely no trouble typing withmy fingers...in fact its great. I use the stylus as well and it works well too.
I have an ipod touch and i find typing on that to be a chore, i make way too many mistakes on the ipod touch compared to the Diamond.
If you buy the phone then make sure you do the tweaks listed in the tweak thread or better still flash to the TLR rom and all thos tweaks above are enabled.
Typing on the Diamond is a joy, typing on the ipod touch isnt in my opinion.

I have to agree - coming from an iPhone to a Diamond, I find the Diamond much better. I NEVER use the stylus at all and type with the full QUERTY. Its much quicker as all the symbols and numbers can be typed by holding another key for a few seconds rather than entering a new menu to do it.
I haven't adjusted the sensitivity at all, but I do find the Diamond needs a slightly harder touch... however it does work with a pair of gloves on (unlike the iPhone).
The only dissapointing thing with the Diamond typing that Apple have nailed is that if you're typing a word and press the key next to the one you want by mistake it doesnt auto correct it. If you press the wrong key on the Diamond, you just get the wrong word!

This is not going to be fully possible. Hardware wise, the iPhone has a proximity sensor which will detect where your thumb/finger is going to hit on the onscreen keyboard and virtually enlarges the surface area of the suggested key to ensure that you are going to hit the correct key. It will also auto-correct the word based on it's huge library.
In addition to this is the obvious size of the screens, the Diamond's being smaller making it harder to type. The onscreen full QWERTY that HTC have implemented in the Diamond is quite poor and is prone to keystroke errors if you're a fast typer *like myself*.
I am currently using PCM Keyboard however and is somewhat 'closer' to that of the iPhone's keyboard capability, where the included dictionary will analyze the keystrokes of a word you type and will try match your keystrokes with the closest/most suited word in its dictionary by substituting incorrect letters with more correct letters surrounding that of the incorrectly entered key.
The iPhone keyboard, is without a doubt, the best onscreen keyboard I have used and I really do miss it. This doesn't go without saying that I do really love my Diamond too, I just wish there was a better keyboard implemented.
The iPhone/Touch is hands down better than any Windows Mobile device when it comes to the onscreen software keyboard. There is simply no comparison. I get that some people find the Diamond better but to be honest, and coming from a hardcore WiMo fan who's gone through at least ten PocketPC devices, the iPhone's keyboard blows any WiMo device away.
Part of the reason is the size of the keyboard and the sensitivity, but even on the HTC Universal with its huge screen, it wasn't as easy as typing on the iPhone. The real secret of the iPhone's ease of use is its Autocorrection feature. To date, there is only one SIP keyboard on WiMo that comes close and it is not PCM Keyboard, it's Touch Pal.
I recommend giving Touchpal a try; it does key proximity sensing the same way the iPhone does, so if you type in "hrllo" it will change it to "hello" after you press the space bar. The dictionary though is bigger and offers more word choices, and isn't as smart as the iPhone's so the iPhone keyboard is still overall better. But Touch Pal isn't half bad.
suggest you check the dates on this thread your nearly 11 months late answering!! lol
Phone keypad and T9 seems about as fast as my old Nokia
Love it.
Hello everyone,
I wanted advice before I get a O2 XDA Diamond. I've been quite happy with my Hermes the past 2 years, only missing GPS feature and I always wish it was thinner! From the size the HTC Raphael isn't much better I have the feeling, so I've been looking into the Diamond again.
Now, the hardware keyboard in many situations is one of the best features on my Hermes, the occasional chat, or the longer email..before I switch to the Diamond I wanted to know how good the software keyboard is.
I've been playing around with the SIP PCM-Keyboard on my Hermes and if that works on the Diamond, or the standard SIP keyboard on the Diamond is similar, then I'd make the switch.
So, how good is it? Things like adding contact addresses, phone numbers, writing the occasional chat and the longer email, the daily text messages..
thx for any advice and experience, pplz who had a Kaiser or Hermes
Got the same situation here! Switched already from a Hermes (Tytn 1) to a Diamond. In the beginning I really had to get used and sometimes wished I never switched phones simply cause im a sms addict and thus loved the hardware keyboard lol. However, nowadays I'm getting really fast in hitting the letters on the touch screen with the stylus. Not as fast as with the hardware keyboard, that's impossible... but I'm managing it lol. Also, if you type a sms or an e-mail and rotate the screen, like the Tytn did automatically when sliding out the keyboard... but you have to use 3rd party programs on the Diamond to manage that.. then I'm even able to type on the screen with my fingers. But, I don't have fingers as big like a Wiener! ;-)
Give "Touchpal" a try I find it better than the diamond default sip, unfortunately it is a commercial app. Once you get used to it it is very fast and finger friendly. PCM Keyboard was always my favourite until I got my fingers on this. It has a few idiosyncrasies but after a very short time I was as fast if not faster than I am on my laptop, but I'm really crap at typing!
Aside from all that I've just upgraded from my beloved Artemis (RIP in the hands now of my 9 year old son) and the Diamond rocks, WOW.
http://www.cootek.com/
Does Touchpal have predictive sentences? Just upgraded from A Vario 3 to the lovely Diamond. Used to love the predictive sentences on the Vario. Doesn't seem to be as good on the Diamond. Same for contacts. Used to whittle down the options letter by letter but have to wait until the end of the first word now.
I love this Kaiser. Scroll wheel and the abundance of buttons are very handy, especially with this revolution of every new phone just having a few face buttons, or being totally impractical for gaming.
Got it running AthineOS, loaded all my favorite apps on it and everything's great
...except two things.
• The power and memory (400mHz, 128/256MB) just ain't cuttin it
• Screen touches cause applications to slow down at least 30%?
My phone before the Tilt was actually 624mHz (nTC Touch VIVA... it was okay, but too many sim card/TF connection issues, 2G was killing me inside, and I HATE onscreen keyboards)
I've found stronger touch screen WM6 phones with real keyboards, but none of them are QVGA (some aren't even WM6 anymore), and in being so, will not work with a lot of my apps that haven't been made to work with higher resolution screens.
The tilt 2 doesn't seem to have the scroll wheel or the abundance of face buttons, but it is more powerful... if I get something that is not QVGA, and runs 6.5, will I still be able to use my QVGA WM6 apps?
Hmm, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question. In all honesty it doesn't have to do with the Tilt, more of the app and other phones.
isnt the Tilt-2 WVGA?
just bought a TD2 yesturday and managed to flash dutty's holy grail r6.
I used to have the xperia and didn't like it. I'm having a similar feeling with the diamond 2; they both looked good on screen. I think its just Windows Mobile thats uncomfortable. Also, capacitive > resistive. The only reason i can remotely even use this phone is because of my fingerNAILS. When you use an iPod touch for over a year, you'll start to notice the difference of responsiveness.
Some questions I have; help is appreciated:
1) Word Mobile can't turn sideways to use the landscape keyboard? Is there a way to be able to make EVERYTHING go landscape (when i tilt the phone), including the homescreens? (xperia was able to when i slide out the keyboard)
2) Why are there those unnecessary up, down, left, right, arrow keys on the keyboard? I never use them and they have become hindrances. When I go on windows live messenger and use the landscape keyboard, I cant see what im typing because the keyboard takes up almost the whole screen.
3) Can i have more then 15 favorite contacts in the contacts grid tab? (i have manila 2.5)
4) Some of my songs are in another language, so their names are in blocks of letters (when i play them in the music player) instead of proper symbols (chinese, etc).
5) Even after upgrading to dutty's rom, the phone still feels sluggish (music player), SLOW, unresponsive at times. None of my above inquiries would be a problem if the phone was super fast; it would compensate for all faults.

1. Download TD2 Tools, there is a G-Config menu that allows you to specify what rotates.
2. We lost navigation keys with the invent of the scroll bar so.... They got to be somewhere. Change your SIP will resolve this. I use Touch Pal.
3. No. 15 Comntracts is all you can load in teh contacts tab, however you can download Max Manila Themes which will give you 20 shortcuts on your home screen that can be assigned to additional contacts.
4. I know Dutty has language support but not sure how that works. Sorry.
5. I have no issues with this ROM other than the WM6.5 SMS slowdown bug.
I assume you have followed protocol and hard reset after flash?
When you first go to Pics or Music tab, it will be slow at first until everything caches.
Hope this helps. Once you check out max Manila Themes you'll be much happier.

Thanks for the reply Bruce
1) I downloaded the TD2 tools, and added pocketword and wordpad to the whitelist in G-sensor. However, it doesnt work after reseting the phone and they disappear on the list when i go back to check. Same issue with "Enable touchflo3D in landscape".
2) is there another way to change the keyboard? one with unnescessary arrow keys (and other keys) and BIGGER qwerty but LESSER space taken up
5) Ahh, i just feel SO frustrated at the unresponsiveness of these phones. Even after upgrading to a nice rom (dutty's) i dont understand why WinMo is so uncomfortable to use.
Its ridiuclous to type with the onscreen keyboard, both portrait and landscape. Has anyone tried the Hero's? because its capacitive, it actually reads my fingers. I have to grow my fingernails to use this phone productively.
I bought this phone to use it's Word capabilities, calendar appointments, and live messenger, not to mention the very important SMS.
but each one of these has their own faults.
word wont rotate, calendar won't either, i cant see what im typing on messenger, and SMS is slow.
Its ABSURD.
Is there a way to delete or change something in the phone that makes the phone go FASTER? or rather the typing on the keyboard
Another ISSUE.....
Why on EARTH can't I play music (TouchFlo's music player) with the screen off (sleep mode)?? Once i press the power to sleep, the music stops.
If you want an good audio player that also allows you to turn off the screen, must you use Nitrogen.
Swype, instead, is a keyboard that has keys sufficiently large and it don't has the arrow keys.

I like the HTC music player, and to not use other ones. Is there anyway to make the music player during sleep mode??
I'm also familiar with that Swype method but I'm really just interested in a normal qwerty keyboard with large, responsive keys that dont take up so much of the screen.
Thanks for the suggestions though
can you guys please help me? im really in the verge of selling this phone (but its hard to sell it)
However, with the stock rom wm 6.5, if you have setted the deactivation of pda after for example 1 minute, after this period the device will sleep and the htc player will continue to work.
For the input, you also can try Resco keyboard or the other lot of keyboards for wm.
The strength of winmo, unlike other operative systems, is that you can always find a solution to everything ...
Some quick comments:
4) If you are looking specifically for Chinese (CHT/CHS) I use a cab file found on XDA... do a quick search for "uhei00m-gray.cab" file and this should help you. Works well for Touch HD Leo ROMs and my wife's TD2's stock 6.5 ROM.
5) I have use dutty's Leo ROM in my Touch HD before, and the sluggish-ness is due to the Leo build (cover-flow). My wife's 6.5 stock rom (without cover flow) works find without any delay/sluggishness. Keep in mind, the Leo ROM was built for HD2 with has 1GHz CPU to handle the intense graphics.
2) Keyboard, I have been using the TD2 & THD keyboard without the need for finger nail. I think just like iPhone, it takes some time to ramp up (2-3 weeks) when I used it for a short-while.
Good luck, and I think the form factor for TD2 is great! (especially for my wife who cannot stand THD size).
