Is it possible to make an image of my Wizard (like you do on a PC) that I can put onto another Wizard?
you could use spb backup for all except the rom

Yes - but I want to move everything including OS to another Wizard that I bought for my wife.
well, flash your chosen - same rom. copy your spb backup file from yours to your wifes wiz and execute the restore file on hers.
you can try that or wait and see if anyone else has a different option.
another choice is spb clone, but i think that is very expensive ($299), and possibly the same thing but it may include the os - it doesn't say on the site

hi,
i have delicate question.
i'd like to make the instalation image, which can be directly loaded to wizard and all aplications and their states are set same as at the moment of creating image.
simply, the same method as used on standard computers.
and why a want this ?
i want it, because i'd like to test any new ROM and if i find it unusefull, then i can return to my last canfiguration without wasting time with installing all the stuff to my wizard.
thx for info
I would just use SPBBackup, Spire or Sunnysoft Backup Manager to create a backup of my Device + StorageCard. This way you always backup everything you have into one backup file.
If you want to create an image you might also consider using SPB Clone..
But the first choice works best for me
Only disadantage is that you will need a lot of storage to place the Backup on.
Hi, I'm looking for full backup method of my TyTNII before playing new application installration as my insurance...
Because sometimes system freezed during my trial, especially trial of Japanese charactor installation. (We can not go to Windows Mobile screen from hTC logo page , so I have to system reset (2 Function keys + Reset)...then retry everything...>_<
I offen use Ghost for my PC to make a backup.
Do we have any idea of making backup for TyTNII such as Ghost?
Your ideas I appreciate!
I'am use spb backup, option full... bye

Also Sprite Backup 6.1 works nice in Kaiser WM6... i think better than SPB one... but only for me
I can personally attest that SPB Backup is a lifesaver. I was able to totally restore my Tilt last night after somehow managing to erase virtually everything.
Thanks all
I tried Spb last night, then could make a backup!
Thanks!!
I like Spirit Backup 6, which works really nice.
I have Sprite and Spb, my vote is Sprite. Although there is nothing wrong with Spb, Sprite gives me more options. Like backing up to the desktop.
When Sprite says it's going to "reset the device"....what does this mean? I don't want wipe everything off of the phone.
Also, how does it connect to the PC?
TIA
Sprite does a soft reset on your phone before it starts a backup, no it doesn't wipe your phone, just a normal soft reset. I'm guessing it does this just to make sure there are no programs running that can screw up the backup..
I too can attest to how well Sprite works. I've been using it since version 3 and I must say that version 6 works GREAT with the Tytn/Kaiser/Tilt. I by mistake half installed the MS Framework services (Don't do that!! ) and had to restore from backup which worked perfectly!
Now I'm not sure if this is a function of Sprite, or ActiveSync, but once you restore with this version you won't have to fully sync again which saves you from getting duplicate contacts, calendar events. With the older version you'd always need to do a full sync and ran into the issue with duplicate info..
Good luck!

OK, it resetting now.................
Now, it's backing up...............wow, 44.1M
Resetting again................
It worked! Backed up to storage card.
Thanks A Lot,
CR
With Spb, you can, using active sync, copy your backup file from your PPC storage card, to the hard drive of your PC. Then, if necessary, you can reverse and have a backup that you can use to restore in the event that you lose your micro storage card, or that it becomes corrupt.

Thanks. I'll be hitting the road today, but will try it this week sometime.
Does Sprite and/or SPB make an "image". Or is it just backing up "data"? Is the only way to make an "image" of your device to custom cook a ROM?
I use Sprite back-up...spb works good but the last time I used spb it didn't offer an option to restore after a ROM upgrade...don't know if spb added this feature but that's the only reason why I would choose Sprite over spb...
I use Sprite BackUp,very good program and restoring between different ROM versions or different devices.
Where to Find Sprint Backup Application

Hi,
I'm looking for full backup (making image, like a ghost for laptop PC) software.
I've ever used SPB, but it was not full image.
I'd like to make a image backup file onto storage card or my PC through USB, then once my TyTN has some critical issue, I'd like to do image back.
Do you have any recommendation software?
Your advices I appreciate!!
i haven't come across anything for ppc .. only software that allows backups. would be nice to create image backup though.
I think Sprite Clone does what you are asking for.
I use BackupManager that allows me to create .exe full backups.
Take a look here.
http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=245
Price is $20 but it's worth the price.
Have to do a hard reset? Fine, just execute the backup file and everything is back!
I'm VERY happy with it.
By the way, it's very quick and my backup is stored on the memory card.
Sprite backup appears to backup the entire filesystem (PIM, windows, all folders and even SD) to an executable file. It runs before the device boots so i guess you could use it to "image" your phone. I have made a backup of my filesystem but i haven't tried to restore it yet. If it works, let me know, its the only thing stopping me flashing (apart from waiting for the drivers of course!!)
I dunno if its free, it came with my o2 stellar (kaiser)
http://www.spritesoftware.com/sprite-backup/
Actually, it looks like it might be free
My AT&T Tilt came with Sprite Backup, which seems to do a full image. I ran with the stock AT&T setup for the first 30 days I had the Tilt, but installed a lot of stuff on top of that. When I tried hard resetting it, I was able to restore everything right back to the way it had been at the time of last backup - data, apps, settings, registry tweaks, so forth (I was trying out Sprite to be sure of what it was actually doing).
I've also saved Sprite *.exe backups to my Vista desktop, via USB (home premium 32-bit SP1), and my G4, OS X 10.4.11 powerbook, for that matter (via bluetooth file transfer), put them back on my Tilt's storage card, and run them from there - no problems (I do not have my 4GB card encrypted).
Sprite works well. Ive done restores successfully and you can get Sprite Explorer which runs on your desktop and allows you to restore single files from your image which is great.
Thanks for your information!!
Now I'm trying to use Sprite Backup. Looks nice.
This is the one I was looking for.
Thanks (^_^)v
hmm but does it take a picture of the os stack as well? Im wondering because i want to experiment with ROMs when my current rom is working fine (i know i know - dont fix what aint broken!). I found spb clone which looks like it would do it so im gonna give it a shot.
spb clone is my 2c opinion.
never used others.
I've used it several time to clone my phone to a friend of mine phone's.
result = wonderful!
I use sprite backup aswell and its the best iv seen so far but it doesnt work across roms. So if you made a backup on a stock rom, you cant restore that backup onto a different rom.
Yes, I searched and couldn't find an answer.
This is what I'd like to do:
1) Back up everything on my phone.
2) Flash and play with different ROMs
3) Flash back the original ROM.
4) Restore the system to what it was..file by file EXACTLY what it was.
Now, before you say "SPB Backup", I'm using that. It works very nicely but it doesn't do a "true restore". It only adds new files and overwrites updated files. It doesn't delete files that aren't in the backup image. So SPB isn't quite what I need.
I wish to find a BU/Restore app that will put the system back *exactly* the way it was. Add new files, overwrite updated files and delete files that aren't in the backup image. IE: A "true restore".
Thanks
I don't think any backup utility will erase files for you; you need to do it yourself. If you want something automated, it's pretty easy to write a set of mortscripts that will delete all of the crap you want to get rid of regularly. It would probably take you an hour or two to get a script that would deleted a hundred or so files.

There is indeed a way to do this and as you said SPB Backup won't do it.
If you want to stick with SPB - then there is SPB Clone.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/clone/
There is another one that came out recently Sprite Clone
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-clone
I've used SPB Clone quite a bit in the past and it's always worked great. I have Sprite Clone but I haven't tried using it yet (no need at this time) - but this one might actually be better because it supports wm 6.5 and I don't think the other does yet.
There is a trial version of the Sprite Clone one here: http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/clone/clone-trial-request
and a trail version of the SPB clone one here:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/clone/download.html
So that's the good news. The bad news is how much it costs - yer lookin at 300 bucks.
I use SPB Backup but just hard reset the phone before using the standalone restorer.
You know, you should try out sk tools backup (comes with sk tools). I've used it a few times recently, and it will remove files that weren't present during the original backup procedure. I've seen it remove links in the startup folder and also remove files from the root of the storage system. I'd say it's pretty close to what you want, and you may already have it.

I will second the motion for SK Tools Backup. Once you make a backup file it copies an exe to the same folder for restoration purposes. When you need to do a full restore, hard reset your device and run the backup program that was created along with the backup file. It sets EVERYTHING back to the way things were.
i'm planning to flash a winmo 6.5 rom on my xperia. but i have spb mobile shell (registered!) installed and i really don't want to lose it. so how can i save it so i could install it on custom rom later?

according to the spb home page you have received an email with the registration key
so it should be simple and just depend on whether you dl it as *.exe or as *.cab
in case of *.exe it's on the PC and you should be able to rerun it and authenticate yourself using the mentioned registration key
similar with *.cab, secure the file on your sd card (keep a backup on PC as well if you like) before flashing a new rom and reinstall/register after installing sbp mobile shell
that's just an educated guess as I don't use the product, so in case you are unsure and nobody else answers I would advice on contacting their support team and/or doing some more detailed research yourself (e.g. start here)
Best, DK
at first i downloaded a trial version (i think it was a .cab file), and then registered it. but now i can't find that file on my sd card.
edit: no, i installed it using my pc (so with .exe file). i think that's the reason i can't find it
edit 2: found the answer. didn't notice what you wrote about .exe file. thanks
