Stuck in bootloader and the battery is dying - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I've been trying to find out how to actually load a firmware while my phone is stuck in bootloader (it locked up at 99% while loading a rom) and, while I still haven't solved the mystery of how to actually apply Wizard Love I have now a more pressing dilemma. My battery is dead. I don't have any way of charging the battery other than my USB cable, which doesn't appear to work now. Is there a way to charge the battery so that I can actually flash the phone without it dying?
I know that fixing the phone is possible, but I just haven't figured out how to do it. All the wiki's say is to flash it with Wizard Love, with little instructions as to how to go about it. Every time I try loading anything to it, I get a communication error. In boot loader I can see the USB connection establish on the phone screen, so I know I'm not dead. I'm just confused.

I was able to borrow an AC adapter from a buddy here that has a Hermes, but still am having trouble figuring out how to get the ROM fixed on the phone. I've tried a hard reset, and also I've tried loading wizard love, but receive the error because of no activesync connection to start the process. I've also been fruitless in finding MTTY commands for the Wizard.
All the threads I've looked through on loading from the bootloader are a bit absent of key information. Even this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294107
doesn't get into detail about what the steps are to flash in boot loader. It does tell you how to prep (disable activesync, remove the SD card, reconnect to USB) but glosses over the flash method with "Run the Upgrade again and it will work fine without any problems." THIS is where I am having the most difficulty. I can't seem to solve the puzzle of how to upgrade straight from the boot loader. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm just missing a thread, but with so much information it's hard to find exactly what I need.

Boot up the bootloader screen. Connect your PDA to your PC. You should see USB on your PDA. Flash your device.

So I did end up getting my phone working again (yay). I had tried several times the morning I started this thread to run the t-mo 2.26 ROM with ill luck. It seems that it only worked when I took the memory card and the battery was COMPLETELY charged. I was then able to load buttons 1.05, run the unlock and then load a wm6 rom. I chose the Core 2.0 with blackberry support. Other attempts to get BES support on my phone under WM5 have ended poorly, so I am giving this a go.
I have read that many have had problems with MMS support for T-mobile. I too had loads of problems, but I was able to get it working by changing the gateway from 216.155.165.050 to 216.155.165.50. I did not add a seperate GPRS connection. I instead opted to to try to set it connect via WAP Network, and it worked like a champ. Other settings are as follows:
Port Number 8080
Sending size limitations: 300K
WAP version WAP 2.0

101 connection error

Every time I try to do the rom upgrade for my PDA2K the device does a soft reset (when it's reset it then reconnects to activsync, and the green logo reappears) and after a while the ROM upgrade software tells me there is an Error 101 Connection Error. It's driving me nuts, I've tried all sorts of variants, soft reset first, hard reset first, USB port, USB2 port, Activesync 3.7.1, activesync 3.8, Windows XP, Windows 98. I don't understand why there is a connection error, because I can connect to activesync correctly, it even reconnects after the ROM upgrade causes it to do a soft reset. Please help! I've even tried following directions to copy the temporary files and running those directly but the result is the same.
Bizarre
Try connecting your device then stopping activesync (task manager, then stop "WCESCOMM.exe" in XP), then run the upgrade.
Regards,
Dom
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the process kept reappearing during the attempted upgrade and I still got the Error 101 message.
When activesync starts, let it complete the sync and then go ahead and run the upgrade. I experienced this last weekend
victor
I've tried it dozens of times. I've let it sync on many occasions, and I've also tried it on many occasions with it connected as guest.
I tried iMate online support for the third occasion regarding this matter, and as before once I tell them what the problem is they then don't respond (they also never respond to my emails either).
I have actually considered hiring a laptop for 24 hours, just in case it's my Mac that is causing the problem (but I'm using Microsoft Virtual PC running Microsoft Windows XP to upgrade the ROM on a phone running Microsoft Pocket PC, so I really don't see why it shouldn't work. Normal sync, and installing software via Activesync work fine. I'm on the brink of selling the device because it's just caused me too much grief. The trouble is, it's put me off ever buying another Pocket PC, and I cannot find a suitable alternative. Every device I read about has some reason why it wouldn't be suitable.
At last I've had the opportunity to do the ROM upgrade on a 'real' PC running Windows XP.
It behaved in EXACTLY the same way as running Virtual PC on my Mac (even down the the odd delay before Activesync recognises that the phone is connected - I had assumed that this was because of the inefficiency of running an emulator!).
Error 101 connection error every time. Firewall switched off. Tried with and without hard reset.
I wonder if there could be a hardware fault with my phone? The pins on the phones connector all look fine.
Now I am really stuck, I seem to have completely run out of options (and I don't want to send the device of the the middle east either!).
One last idea. Is there anything more than a hard reset? I've just removed the battery. If the unit is completely deprived of power will this take it back to factory settings any more than a hard reset?
NOPE!
Hard Reset is the best you can get bar removing the insides of the phone and swapping it with someone else's!!!
Dom
if you do remove the battery you need to put the lock switch back into the postion as if it the battery was in. This seems to make the phone think that the battery is dead and then drain the internal backup one.

Bootloader screen goes grey.....

I have a G3 wizard. I was stupid and trying to go from button's ROM to Crossbow reloaded. The flash ended up crashing somewhere in the 80% range. Now my wizard will rarely get into bootloader mode. I'm leaving the battery out for 5 minutes at a time. When I put it back in it will go into bootloader mode until I plug the USB cable in it and try to flash it the screen comes goes grey and I get a 260 update error..
I really hope I didn't brick this thing, It's my only connection and I have some important new job related calls to make!
mine is stuck on the flash screen
i have a g3 wizard and today it would not get past the windows mobile 6 professional splash screen (tnt rom). is there anything i can do. i tried reflash it but could not establish a connection. please help

Try holding the camera button while powering it on. Then put in the usb cable and flash away.

Do a Soft reset of the phone,if it works out, fine, otherwise do the Hard reset, although you might lose your personal data but phone will work out.
If both do nothing and it still gets stuck, then there's no other way except to reflash.
Which connectivity your not getting,If you are saying about Activesync connectivity, then you don't need Activesync connectivity to flash, get your phone into Bootloaders(multicolor screen) connect it to your pc via usb cable, when usb appears at the bottom of the bootloadermode, flash the Rom.
But if you cannot establish connectivity through usb cable, then either your usb cable is faulty or the mini usb port of the phone is damaged.
Looks like i've been threadjacked...can anyone help?

There seems to be no good answer for this....

Ok, I posted a thread on the main wizard forum and I'm trying again here since this is a little more on topic in this forum.
Here goes with all the technical specifics I can add in.
I recently got an HTC 8125 (I've had one before and never had this problem)
I immediately CID and SIM unlocked the phone using lokiwiz's unlocking program.
I inserted my tmobile sim into the cingular 8125 and all was great.
I upgraded the ROM to the TNT 19199 batch of WM6.1 Everything is still great.
The phone worked awesome, the next day I downloaded the T-Mobile UK radio version 2.19.11.
I flashed it to the phone and everything seemed fine, the program finished and the phone restarted.
Upon restart I was greeted with a no service message and the phone behaves as though it is shutoff. No big deal, right? WRONG...
I went to the tmobile and cingular site and got the default roms from each just in case.
I then connected the phone to the usb and activesync would not recognize the phone, or do anything for that matter.
I used an external USB bluetooth dongle to try and connect the phone to the PC to flash the default rom and fix the radio problem, this wouldn't work either.
I then put the phone into bootloader mode, this works ok, I see the USB in the corner and figure I'm saved. Nope.
I ALWAYS get an Error Connecting from the rom software. Even though my PC recognizes the phone, active sync does not. I re-installed Activesync and rebooted my computer numerous times. To no avail.
The ONLY rom software I which has worked is the TNT 19199 but it doesn't fix the lack of radio.
Here are some other points of interest. On phone bootup I get this:
IPL 1.08
SPL 1.08
<----Notice, NOTHING in the GSM spot.
OS 1.11.1.0.1 (or whatever the numbers are for that particular rom)
The USB will recognize the phone ONLY in bootloader mode, otherwise when the phone is on the Today screen I get no recognition.
The TNT rom has worked twice when I tried it, (by worked I mean it allowed me to re-flash the same rom) Of course the TNT rom doesn't work all the time, it has given me several connection errors.
No other rom has worked as of yet, all others give me a connection error.
The battery meter will not display, nor will it tell me what type of battery or how much charge is left.
The phone will sometimes go to amber light when plugged into the wall charger but NEVER with the usb to PC cable.
I can still navigate around the windows mobile 6.1 interface though it moves incredibly SLOW. i.e. I pushed the comm manager button to make sure the phone didn't simply get shutoff and I waited about a minute and a half or longer for it to bring up the comm manager.
I need some severely good advice and some new tricks to try, I'm running out of ideas, I saw several threads under the HTC TyTn threads about similar problems and something about the IPL/SPL being important but I'm not sure what they're talking about. I have searched this forum and I have found people talking about similar problems, all the responses point to, "If you can get to the bootloader you're fine." This is incorrect.
So seriously, help me out here.
HOW DO I FIX MY STINKIN' PHONE.
I would suggest rolling back to your working configuraton by reflashing using a memory card instead of the USB.
fixed.
Actually I finally figured it out.
It seemed the reason that those roms worked sometimes but not others was this: To get the phone to recognize you had to do things in a VERY specific sequence.
You had to let the phone boot all the way into WM6 and then plug in the usb cable. Then put it into bootloader with the camera / soft reset button method. Then you waited for the nice USB connect sound, and began the ROM flash RUU program. (In this case it was the T-Mobile default rom).
Once that was done the phone acts as normal and everything is good.
Doing anything out of order or putting the phone into bootloader without it having first booted all the way to the OS would give you the connect error.
Please clarify if you're running WM6 with IPL/SPL 1.xx? I believe that's not possible to get good results that way.
IPL 1.08
SPL 1.08
<----Notice, NOTHING in the GSM spot.
OS 1.11.1.0.1 (or whatever the numbers are for that particular rom)
TNT 19199 batch of WM6.1
Wm6.1 on ipl/spl 1.xx,strange ,how do you explain this, how did you manage to get wm6 installed with ipl/spl 1.xx,cuz it only works on ipl/spl 2.xx and higher. Are you sure its TNT 19199 series wm6.1 Rom ?

Stuck after ROM flash:error 206

I decided to reflash my wizard after it continually getting slower and slower after a year. I haven't done it in awhile. It is already unlocked. I flashed the 1.05 rom and it was working. I was going to go up in steps ending with the touch rom. I flashed the wrong rom evidently and now am downgraded to 1.01 on spl/ipl and os 2.26.10.2. The wizard won't activate Activesync and I can't get any communication. I tried rebooting the pc and the wizard multiple times. Still nothing. Need something quick to fix this. Everytime I tried to launch a rom flash I get an error 206.

If it was already CID unlocked, there was no need to downgrade again 1.05,once CID unlocked will remain unlocked forever, unless you intentionally don't flash back the locking code back on to it.
Now try to get into Bootloaders (multicolor screen) hook up the phone with pc via usb cable and check small usb appear at the bottom of the bootloaders,if it appears then download the official stock rom and flash to recover back to the default status, then download the WST 4.2.2 tool and run the 'CID Action' button to verify the CID lock/unlock status of the phone.if its still CID unlocked then upgrade to any wm6 rom of your choice, otherwise perform the unlocking method again. If the usb doesn't appear, then you have a connectivity problem, check the usb cable or the mini usb port of the phone is faulty.Assuming you are doing on winXP.
"and check small usb appear at the bottom of the bootloaders..."
I don't understand what your talking about when you say bootloader. The bootloader is the ROM installation program is it not. How do you check an icon in that? If you mean system trays on the PC or PDA, no USB icon shows. I got no radio or sync services working. The OS is corrupted and operates extremely slow. I can't get any kind of communication between the PDA and PC. Not even through windows explorer (running XP). It's not the cable, I just used it to downgrade to 1.05 and it was working fine. It wasn't until I tried to upgrade to back up, and selected the wrong ROM off my USB storage, that it flashed the wrong ROM and caused all this. Mostly because I hate trying to remember what the longs string of digits mean on each ROM. Especially after I haven't looked at all the files and haven't done a flash in a year.
So no communication. That's the issue.
So does anyone else have any info? As I stated, I can't get any communication between the MDA and the PC. So I don't know how I can flash a stable ROM.
I repeat again,Get the phone in Bootloaders mode (multicolor screen) by pressing and keep holding down the camera button and at the same time either 'Soft Reset' or 'Power On' the phone, but keep holding down the camera button, till phone boots up in Bootloaders mode(multicolor screen),hook up the phone with pc via usb cable and check if small usb appears "At the bottom of the Bootloaders Screen" and not in the system tray of the pc. If it appears then follow the advise I gave you in my above post, but if doesn't appear then you have a connectivity problem.

The Wiki as all the (basic) info to get you started.
It doesn't work
I can get into Bootloaders mode with usb at the bottom. BUT, I can't get any connection to ActiveSync, any of the ROM update utilities and no radio network connections. That was the specific thing I'm telling you. If the Desktop and the PDA won't talk to each other, what am I gonna do? It's not the cable either. The Wizard Tool will not pick it up either when I used it to try to get device info. If your going suggest any kind of ROM or software off the forum, please specify exact version and title so I don't have to go through 100+ pages doing a search to find a specific piece of software off a vague title such as "stock ROM". You may know what it means because your always on the forum. When someone hasn't been back here in awhile they aren't going to remember some arbitrary string of numbers and letters indicating a certain ROM that they haven't used for a year. Too many of you "regulars" get all pissy about things when someone asks a question. If someone keeps asking the same questions, it's because the forum is NOT laid out in an easily searchable fashion unless you have specific search criteria for things such as CUSTOM_RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_10111210_WWE instead of "stock ROM".
Have you read the Wiki?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies
Or other posts?
You'd know by now that in bootloader mode ActiveSync or any other tool (that uses ActiveSync) can't communicate with the phone but that it's possible to upgrade a ROM using the official upgrade utilities.
Have you tried making a search and getting hundreds of undesired and repeated posts which makes you lose days searching for a specific thing?
If you'd been here as long as many of us you'd also be tired of people asking same questions. I was once a fresh member and i would always 'waste' my time than others'.
Also the forum search feature has been enhanced by using Google's search engine instead of internal.
There is simply no way I can express my deep and sincere gratitude for the information available in this forum. Let me explain and I think you may understand why.
Several days ago my wife and I received a couple of HTC 8125's from Ebay. Being a tinkerer I wanted to see what I could do so I upgraded mine to Mobile 6 with Touch-Flo.
The wife was skeptical and waited to see how it worked out. Of course she eventually decided to go for the Bling and handed me hers to upgrade as well.
As soon as the upgrade started on hers the pda went bootscreen and locked up. Sooooo I'm sweating bullets and searching the forums as fast as I can go before she finds out. Then I find this thread and the last post... Don't need Activesync to update as long as the device pops up a little usb on the screen when you plug up... I flashed the 8125 upgrade and *Bang*! Back in business. Continued the upgrade and all is well. The wife is now walking around with her "Bling" and happy and I am off the hook!
Thanks for the GREAT FORUM!

[Q] Trying to unbrick Kaiser

Hi All,
I've been running the Orange (UK) WM6.1 ROM for months/years without problems and was messing around with some texts and somewhere along the line I have ended up with the standard 4 stripes down the screen and some text top left.
I have scanned the forums here and the wiki and they suggest connecting using USB and running Mtty.exe, however whilst I can connect the phone using USB Activesync won't recognise it and then I get an error from Mtty.exe because it won't recognise the phone.
I have also tried re-intalling the Orange ROM as well as newer roms, but none of them seem to be able to connect to the phone.
Active sync doesn't seem to be able to connect on Win 7 or Win XP despite them syncing fine this morning.
So, any suggestions out there?
I'll do some more searching, but any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Try a new USB cable, I went through 5 in one year, or try flashing via SD card.
Well I tried a couple of different leads and no luck.
I did manage to get some info from mtty.exe, but didn't make sense.
I took my SIM out to use in another phone and having left the battery out for a while, put it back in to try again at getting it to start and it booted fine without any problems.
After a bit of messing around it seems like that the boot problem is either down to a problem with the SD card, SIM or a foreign object in phones casing.
I keep the phone in a pocket of my overals that I use a workshop and occasionally iron filings from a grinder can get into it's working, which is what I think has happened.
ANyway, it's back and working again, only need to keep it going until Orange can get some Desire HDs in
Hi!
Read those threads again, the solution is there.
1.Disable USB connections in Activesync menu (right click on green icon on the tray)-->connection settings-->untick "Allow USB connections"
2.Put your device in bootloader mode (yours is in it)
3.Start to connect it with MTTY to do what you want or just run an official Orange UK ROM update
If everything is fine, your device will be alive again.
After that install Hard-SPL to avoid problems like this.
BR
Scootie
P.S.:Sorry,I didn't read post #3,but it can be useful later.
One more tip:check the camera button.
Thanks Scootie,
I'll try the Hard-SPL thing - the jumping into boot loader seems pretty random, has happened a couple more times and I find I have to pull the battery for several minutes and then try a restart.
The camera button doesn't seem to do much other than what it is supposed to.
Pretty annoying since I have had the phone for 3 years, but have not had signal at home so hardly use it, and now we have signal due to Orange/T-Mobile merger from the beginning of the month the phone fails me :-(
