Hi there everyone
I am currently the not-so-proud owner of a Mio A701 and I am quite well fed up wit hit at teh moment and I am looking to change to a Kaiser. I have previously owned an iMate Jam.
I just want to know if some of the problems that I'm having with my A701 are solved or not present on the Kaiser. Having previously been with WM2003SE with my Jam and currently with WM5 with my A701, I am not sure whether my problems are WM based or device based. My current problems are:
long delay when I answer calls (anywhere from 2 secs to 5 secs)
long time to acquire first GPS fix (was fixed with an Oki ROM, but battery life and stability suffered)
fairly unstable OS (I'm currently running an LF ROM and may change again)
inability to answer calls sometimes (related to instability, I think)
bluetooth issues with carkit - mainly the fact that the first call I make on entering the car cannot be heard at the other end (I get around this by always calling my voicemail when I egt in the car)
Thanks in advance for your help.
I think these problems are device based. On my WM 6 E-ten M700 I only recognize the delay when answering a phonecall. This is however caused by the custom made dialer skin/phone application from E-ten. When removed, the WM6 phone app works just fine.
The only big problem with the kaiser I've seen so far on this forum is the bluetooth call quality/volume.
I've just replaced my Mio A701, which I had for over 18 months and replaced it with a Kaiser.
Even using the last Oki ROM (plus 24 version), the Kaiser blows the Mio out the water. A worthwile upgrade, you won't look back.

Thanks for the replies.
I have tried different dialers to try and get rid of the delay - no success.
I have tried Oki 24 Plus and haved moved to Lifeforce R70 and now I'm thinking of changing back to R65 or Oki 24 basic until I can get a Kaiser.
I'm glad to hear of at least one person who has moved from A701 to Kaiser and it has certainly whetted my apetite even more. I've just got to find the money now, which is a bit difficult because baby number four has just arrived and I'm struggling to justify this purchase!
I had a Mio A701 until a week ago. Had exactly the same problems as well. The Kaiser has none of the problems the Mio had. No 2 sec delay (I find myself waiting 2 secs before answering by shear habit). Tomtom launches within about 20 sec. With the Mio I had to launch Memory Map to get a fix and then open Tomtom.
The Kaiser is so much better and faster.
Hey everyone, I installed a cracked version of the TOMTOM 6.010. At first connecting to satellite was fairly fast . Now it takes forever. Any suggestions guys? thanks
TomTom isn't the fastest GPS app out there for our Kaisers. Try Mio Maps. Better UI and a lot faster. I use both, and Mio is better IMHO. I keep TT installed for simplicity and also because I put a ton of custom POI's in it.
Perhaps you need to see if your GPS also works poorly with legal software such as GoogleMaps or Live Search. If it does, check that your QuickGPS is working correctly.
Hello everyone, can someone tell me if this is a known problem? Every time I am using some GPS Navigation software like MIO or something like that if I get a call, I can not hear the other person or the person can not hear me until I have exited the GPS application. This even happens when I am using BT headphones.
Thanks for the help!

Hey George, I have not encountered those problems with Destinator nor iGo. Have you tried any other GPS Software other than MIO?
Hey Jimmy,
I have not been able to find a working version of IGO. I am using MIO MAP V3.3. I also had the problem with Iguidance 3.0.
My IGO version flashes the Splash Screen and it goes away. The resolution is set right but I just can not run it. I have not looked for another copy of it so maybe now there is a better copy out there.
I think I would like to have IGO 8.0. Do you have that?
jorge
I used iGo 2006 about a month ago, but sticked to Destinator 7 because it had better maps of my city.
I really have not heard of such problem, and I know little of what could cause it other than bad compatibility that is not very probable.
Earthcomber is a free GPS software with free maps for the US. Why not give it a try too?
Sorry I was not much help, lets hope some other user notices your issue and solves it.
Actually, you were helpful because I know that it is just mine. Plus had some suggestions so, thanks for that!
Jorge
At the end of the day yesterday Fring released the 3.34 version that is using correctly the internal loudspeaker for our HTC phones!!!
Just installed it and it works indeed!
Hope this can help all people that as me were waiting for a VoIP client for "normal" calls...
Oh and it even works on WM6.1, finally
thanks!

Thanks dengi,
that's a great news!!
When do u think this improvement will be available for other brand, like my Samsung SGH-i780?
It seems there is a little bug though, I already set it to use "WiFi Only" but I noticed that Fring randomly tries to connect via 3G.
Not working on HTC TyTN (WM 6.1)
....I mean the earpiece!! The switch is available but everything is muted.

Ciao Vittore, mi spiace ma in effetti nel sito Fring c'è scritto chiaramente che il problema dell'altoparlante interno è risolto solo sui telefoni HTC!
Non ho idea per altri brand quando risolveranno...
Hi Vittore, I'm sorry but the Fring website clearly states that at the very moment they only fixed the internal loudspeaker for the HTC devices!
I've no idea how long they need to fix this for other brands....
Well, the Tytn is an HTC device as far as I know

Well the TyTN is the very first HTC branded smartphone lauched......definitely HTC!!
And it definitely does not work!!
Sorry for the misunderstanding: I thought that Vittore had troubles with Samsung only and not that he also tryed with a Tytn II
I perfectly know Tytn II is an HTC device and as matter of fact it works to me and to the two first users who answered this thread: KILRAH and XCESSPDA
When I activate a call via Fring now with my phone (with WM 6.1 using the standard official HTC ROM) the default is the internal earpiece. And if during the call I press the "switch" button, the audio passes from the internal earpiece to the external loudspeaker and viceversa
And other users are using successfully this new release
So it would be interesting investigating what the specific problem is to whom has troubles. Are you Vittore using the same ROM? Have you checked all the volume controls in the phone and in the Fring application?
To me I can confirm that now Fring is perfectly working on Tytn II.

You're mixing again, he tryed with a TyTN, not a TyTN II
So, different device, different hardware, possibly different behavior.
But he has to take some too, this is the TyTN II forum so wouldn't be the right place to post it, like we can see it gets people confused
Oooops,
thank you very much for your clarification, Kilrah!

I'm going away!!
works for O2 Stellar official rom WM6.1
Just to confirm that it works (can hear the Skype call from the earpiece instead of the loudspeaker!) for me with an O2 Stellar running official RUU_Kaiser_O2_UK_3.29.206.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe rom
Thanks for the update! Without this thread, I would probably have abandoned Fring! :-D
