WM5 from Flash Storage Card - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I cannot seem to find this specific issue, I have an old SX66 blue angel and was wondering if it is possible to flash the latest wm5 rom it. I already have a wm5 3.1 variant (or something that is not very recent). The usb connectors on the bottom of the angel are broken, which is why I cannot use a method that has anything to do with physically connecting the pda to the computer. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to bump but anyone here with any info?

It should be possible using Flash card. Never did it: you have look in Wiki and using search button.

I could only find directions for how to backup and restore, but even with this it require a connection to the computer. Anyone else? I've tried unraring the rom to the flash card and entering boot loader, but nothing is detected. I have a Hermes that I use as my primary, and it works a bit different than the blue angel.

HELP!!! Stuck at Boot Screen. NEED SD IMAGE FILE

Hope you guys can help me out. I disassembled my Cingular 8125 to try and improve the earpiece speaker. I put the device back together and turned it on and it sticks on the boot screen.
When I try to do a hard reset, I get to the point where I have to press send (green button), but then displays the following for a second and then goes back and freezes on the boot loader screen:
format FAT partition
format is complete
I've read some stuff about being able to recover from this using the SD card, but I'm not sure how to do it. If it is possible to recover from SD card, can someone please upload the appropriate files to the ftp site?
Please HELP!!! My ROM versions are below:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
Thanks!!!
Update:
I'm able to get to the mutli-colored screen by holding the Camera Button prior to starting the Wizard back on. I plug in my USB to my computer, but my computer says "USB Device Not Recognized". How can I get a new ROM on to my device? I tried running the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from a ROM, but it obviously wouldn't work because my computer doesn't see my phone. Please help!!
Thanks!!
Update #2:
When connected to the computer, I got to device manager and see an unknown device under USB. I uninstall the device and do a scan for hardware changes. This finds the phone, but it still shows up as an unknown device. It does say that device is ready to use, but when i try to run the ROM update utility, it still cannot find my phone.
Do I need special USB drivers for the phone to be recognized?
Please guys, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!
you shouldnt need any special driver for your computer to connect to Wizard.
did you install ActiveSync at all ? perhaps its using the driver from that installation....
What OS are you using ?
Yes, I've previously installed ActiveSync 4.1. I am using Windows XP. Would it help to try to uninstall/reinstall ActiveSync? I may give that a try. Will keep you posted. Any other suggestions?
EDIT:
Just tried to uninstall/reinstall ActiveSync and it still says USB device not recognized
it looks like a dead ROM, hope it has nothing to do with the hardware.
Anyway, you try looking through this forum, there are some people who've got stuck on the boot screen, and did a flash (via the bootloader screen, e.g. the multi colour one) on the ROM and seems to fix the problem. Probably you want to put this option last. Mean while, wait for others to repsond, and you may well start looking on how to flash the ROM from bootloader screen.

Thanks for responding. I'm ok with having to reflash, but the problem is that my computer doesn't seem to recognize my device when i'm at the multi color screen.
Isn't there a backup battery in these devices? I had my Wizard disassembled for 4 hours. I guess the backup battery could have died during this span, but even if it did, what implications would that have?
You still have hope
Get it to the bootloader screen. Connect via USB to your PC (make sure you have active sycn installed) and run an RUU to replace your ROM. I had to do this after trying to downgrade to the original Cingular ROM on my 8125. Scared the S*!T out of me when it hung on the Splash screen and wouldn't load. I thought it was toast but using the Bootloader and an RUU it put it back to normal again.
It won't look like the PC is recognizing the device but it will as long as its in Bootloader.
Let us know if you get it fixed.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that when I plug the device into my computer, I get a USB device not recognized error. I try to proceed with ROMUpdateUtility.exe anyways, and get this error:
"The update utility cannot connect to your PDA phone..."
Seems like updating via USB is not going to work for me. Can I write a backup to the SD card from the PC, put the SD card in the phone, and then boot from there? I've read some posts along these lines, but detailed steps would be very helpful. THANKS!!!
You need an SD card dump image.
This is NOT a file in the sense of a file on the SD card. Its a RAW image. You need someone who has dumped their firmware in that fashion to send you the SD image.
You then write it onto the SD card using something like "psdwrite" (which will, by the way, DESTROY the filesystem on the SD card - don't have anything on there you care about!) and then insert it into the phone with the power off. Hold the CAMERA button and turn it on; when it asks if you want to restore the image, hit VOICE.
Note that for 1.x IPLs/SPLs the backlight will be OFF during this procedure, so you have to pay attention and/or have a good flashlight handy.

Genesis3,
Thanks for your wonderful insight. I really appreciate your help.
Now can someone help me with getting an SD image? What constitutes an image file? Is it simply the .nbf file? Do I just use psdwrite and copy the nbf file onto the card? Is there something on the FTP site I can use? My configuration as mentioned in the original post is:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
I had a similar problem and reflashing the rom using the usb is possible. Don't use a flasing utility, though.
Find a self contained rom upgrade from the FTP. As long as you see USB on the bottom left side of your screen, it should work. After that, reflash with whatever rom you want. Hope it works. Nothing worse than an the feeling you have holding an expensive paper waight.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what you mean by "self contained rom". In the past, I've used K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip from the FTP site, and ran the ROMUpdateUtility.exe without any problem. Now, since I cannot make a connection to the computer via USB, I am unable to run ROMUpdateUtility.exe. Is there an alternative "self contained" file I can use that will work in spite of the unknown USB device message?
Thanks in advance...
try to DL this file: RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe. Its on the FTP. Follow this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
click on the FTP Root link, navigate here:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Qtek/ and download the file. Put the phone in bootloader, attach to PC (make sure the phone has USB shown in the bottom left corner, and run the file.
Ignore any references to ActiveSync or any connections period. Just run it all the way through the installation process. When all is done, you can upgrade, down grade, etc using the appropriate method (I use aWizard) Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the course of action that you've suggested, but i cannot get through the installation process because of inadequate connectivity between the phone and my PC. I see the USB in the bottom left hand corner, plug into the PC, and immediately see a USB Unknown device error. I ignore that and try to run the ROM anyways and it fails and I get an Update Error:
"The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB/cradle is connected..."
That's why I think I got to go the SD card route, so anyone with an image file that i can put on my SD card, I really could use the help!
It is NOT a NBF file.
The problem with the 8125 is that if you are somehow not CID unlocked the wrong SD image will actually hurt you more than it helps.
You need to find someone with a Cingular 8125 SD image - I have one for the T-Mobile MDA but not for the Cingular "as-shipped" ROM.

Genesis3,
Thanks for confirming it's not a NBF file. I had previously CID unlocked using awizard and then installed a newer IMATE ROM:
IPL: 2.16
SPL: 2.16
GSM: 02.07.10
OS: 2.16.9.1
I did not install the IMATE Extended ROM or Cingular customizations after upgrading to the IMATE ROM. Do I still need a Cingular 8125 SD image, since i've already upgraded my ROM, or do I now need an IMATE SD image to match my current configuration? Or does the type of image file really not matter?
Thanks in advance!
I really hate to beg, but I am desparately seeking an SD image file backup. I'm going out of town in a couple of days, and would love to have a working wizard for my trip.
Can any one of you kind souls please upload your SD image file backup to the FTP site? It really is my last ditch effort before having to send the phone back.
I truly appreciate all the help and all the responses I have received to date.
THANKS!!!

Upgrade without USB-connection

Hei all.
After reading through the forums hour after hour I finally give up
I got my german O2 XDA Mini s here
IPL 2.21
SPL 2.21
GSM 02.19.11
OS 2.21.4.2
I want to up/downgrade to the Qtek 2.18 NOR ROM. But the big Problem is that if I connect to PDA to my laptop via USB it is not recognized?! Also on a other laptop it didn't work, although it worked earlier. Even a hard reset couldn't help it.
Second thin I read is that Wizards with SPL/IPL 2.21 or higher can't be flashed with a other ROM then a Provider update.
But now I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043 were it is made possible. I made my new ROM image. Now I only need to bring it on my miniSD Card und make the XDA load it from there. And that's my problem. How do I make a "bootable" SD Card und make the XDA a boot from there? I only found I manual for the Magician....
Would be great if someone could help me!!!
Good morning
New Day, new chance. Anybody with an idea?
press and hold down the Camera button then jab the Reset hole will bring the device into Bootloader mode, connect to your Laptop and have a try.
for reflash from a SD card containing rom image, press and hold down the Camera and VoiceDial key simultaneously, jab once the Reset hole, then, release the Camera key FIRST, keep VoiceDial pressed until sth like below showing on the PPC screen:
Restore ALL image from SD
Press Voice Dial Key
to Start Download
Download SD image?

then, press VoiceDial key.

this procedure is worked for my qtek9100, although both qtek9100 and o2xdaminis are both "Wizard", i have no idea whether it should work, just give a try and god bless.
what files need to be on the SD card? Do they need to named something special for the wizard?
there's no "files" on the SD card, i said, it's only "rom-image".

Thanks Huang!
I'm nearly there
No the only problem left is to prepare the bootable SD-Card. If wanted to use the XDAtools http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=219261&page=7&highlight=create+rom+image
If I didn't missunderstand it, this should solve my problem. But when I give my nk.nbf made in the first thread as a input file the XDA OS Image Tool tells me that it is an unsupported file format and it doesn't know how to open it
I just unpacked the Tools and registered them. Is there anything mor I have to do to make me a SD-image?
Ok, nex step. When I go into the Bootloader, i get an USB connection. Hell knows we not in normal mode :-/
But this forum is just too big I couldn't find a way to get a new ROM to my Wizard in this way...

From here you can run the Rom Update Utility on your PC and it will flash your device.
Ok, that easy? But it doesn't work :-(
I get the connection, tested it with a terminal, it is realy connected.
- When I use the RUU from risidoro (see my first post up here) I get ERROR [300] STRUMENTO DI AGGIORNAMENTO NON VALIDO. I'd guess that means something me device is not valid???
- If I want to flash with RUU_Prodigy_2180704_21807104_20710_QTEK_NOR_Ship.exe it also connects and all that stuff, but then it told me my nbf file is too old. (I got SPL/IPL 2.21 ) ERROR [296]
- If I extract this RUU manually and replace the nbf with the one handmade, and start ROMUpdateUtility.exe I get ERROR [238], can't open the file.
Search for this file 'ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe'
It will think that your phone has Rom version 1.2 on it and thus will allow you to flash any Rom image.
yeah, thats what I tried first and got ERROR [300] and this Italian Error message
I would be very interested in this since my USB connector broke. Hope you find the answer for this. Anyways, I was able to do an upgrade of OS and downgrade it using awizard via BT connection in my CID locked phone.
How did you do that?? Because if I try to update via Bluetooth I always get Errors :-/
BT update
Well, actually I did a backup of everything using Awizard (via USB when my connector was working) and then I updated just the OS using some tools. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088&start=0. Then I rename the extension to nba so awizard can read it and then used awizard to update only the OS. This was all with USB cable. Then my toddler got a hold of my phone while charging and broke the USB connector.
Got sick of the 3.2 rom then took the risk of downgrading to my old OS via awizard using BLUETOOTH. It took some time to update and have to make sure my phone don't turn off during update. Anyways, now I have the 2.26 OS back.

mda mini PM10A dead by wrong rom

hi all
my mda dead now when i put usb cable its kepad lights only blink some time and speaker beep.
this happend with wrongly upgrade with blue angle rom.
mda detect with pc ok.
any suggestion.
thanks in advance.
try entering the bootloader and then try flashing an official rom from your phone provider
I think your device is a brick now. The Blue Angel ROM changed the bootloader. No chance to restore.
ChrBeck, weren't you the one who suggested that one can simply copy a valid bootloader to a SD Card (then use the NTRW.exe trick)?
No, I wasn't. Because I know that if you can't get in bootloader you can't install a new one. I've never heard that there is a trick to reeinstall the bootloader, if there is no one.
There is nothing wrong with the 'trick'. I know that it'll ask you to push the power button to flash from SD card (if done properly). Forget it then.
Jani-Jan, needs to try restoring the ROM using another PC (with a different OS).
OK, maybe this trick is from Prophet and works on Charmer. Sorry for that. And the Idea with an other OS is good. I think Linux will work. If you need translated tools write I will try.

Daimond display flickering and can not Sync with a PC

Hi,
I have a big problem with my HTC/XDA Daimond.
I bought it in ebay so I dont know what the person did all with it, but Im trying my best to get it clear again.
What I can say only is that he flashed a new HTC ROM 2.00.421.1 WWE on it.
The Problems:
The display is flickering all the time if I switch the device on.
For this problem I read, that may the problem is the spl/hardspl and I have to flash the spl.
But now the second problem
I cant get a Sync with my PCs. Maybe its because of the new Rom, I don't know.
My Question:
Can I Flash the SPL over the 4GB Storage in the daimond (over WIFI I can copy the files on it)?
Can I Flash after that the Original Rom from O2 or HTC from the Daimond?
Or Other ideas to solve the problem?
With thanks in advance.
Yanuin
Can no body help me???
Do you get the USB connection pop-up when you connect the usb cable?
If you do then try using disk drive option so you can flash ROM that way.
You can flash from internal storage. See stickies in Rom section.
Flash a different hardSPL and then you're good to go for a different ROM. You can also flash the normal stock rom of your choice.
BTW: In rare occasions a firewall can prevent a correct activesync connection.
hey i have the EXACT same problem. my screen start flickering randomly one day and never stopped ever since & USB connection is totally gone. I've been trying to change the HardSPL version but I don't know how to do it without USB connection. I was successful in changing ROM using the internal storage method. Is there something similar to flash the HardSPL?
Someone help me please
Thanks

Possible to flash rom with broken usb?

Hi,
My HTC Kaiser has a broken USB connection. It can only charge with it, but ActiveSync / mtty don't work. The computer never even registers the USB device, so I think it's a hardware fault.
I've extensively searched this forum to find a way to update the rom, as it now has an old WM6.0 one. It still works, so I can start SSPL's from it.
It seems that any installation method requires an USB connection or just doesn' work:
* JumpSPL shows the tricolor bootmenu, but waits there indefinitely (I think that waits for an USB connection)
* The regular HardSPL install using ActiveSync obviously doesn't work
* Trying to follow the MicroSD install as described in the "Kaiser intermittently stuck in SPL?" thread. That doesn't work either; the phone just says 'loading' on a white screen. I think that expects something to already be installed on the phone.
* mtty won't connect over USB (as the computer doesn't even list it)
Of course I tried different USB cables, not using USB hubs, another computer, but that doesn't fix it either. I think it's safe to say the usb data connection is simply broken on the phone.
I've also tried downloading the WM6.1 update from my provider, extracted the .nbh file and renamed it to KAISIMG.NBH, but the current SPL refuses to flash it ("not allow"). Don't know why, it's the same provider.
I've also done a hard reset, doesn't solve anything.
Just for the sake of completeness, the various rom versions that are installed:
r 1.27.12.29
g 22.45.88.07h
d 1.81.00.00
Is there any other method I can try? I think I exhausted them all..
yes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
The steps in "Flashing via MicroSD Card using cmonex HardSPL 3.29" are the same as in the thread I mentioned above, and it has the same result also. After the soft-reset, the tricolor bootscreen shortly appears, after which a white screen appears with in blue the text 'loading'. It stalls on that though.
I've tried that with 2 different microSD cards (1GB, 6GB), and formatted them both to FAT32. I copied over the 2 files from the thread above (KAISDIAG.NBH and KAISIMG.NBH).
The tricolor boot screen displays, before going to the white screen:
KAIS130
SPL-1.81.000
CPLD-8
Anything else I can try?
usb?
maybe the proble, with your device and not in the usb connection. i have this problem myself. the only way to flash for me is via sd card, so it should work.
good luck, anyway
Did flashing via sd card work for you using the cmonex method? I wonder why it doesn't continue after the loading screen for me. It reads official full roms fine from the sd card, except that it does not allow flashing any of them.
First of all, this does not belong in the rom development section. This post has nothing to do with rom development and only serves to clutter this forum and irritate the people that may be willing to help. It belongs in the general section.
Since you are new, please read the forum rules on posting. It does not appear that you have HardSpl flashed to your, which precludes you from flashing hardspl, custom roms or flashing via the SD card method. If you want to flash, you will need to get your usb port fixed.
Moved as not ROM Development.
The noob guide gives all instructions and states you need usb for first h-spl flash.
Thanks for clearing that up, I'm out of luck then. I now see I overlooked the "FOR UPGRADING HARDSPL ONLY!!" clause on the hardspl installation FAQ.
What a shame, I really wanted to get android working on it, but with the current radio it's a lost cause.
