I am a bit disappointed on the available flashrom space on the Kaiser. On a machine that is marketed with a whopping 256MB Flashrom, in reality, only ~130MB is available.
Now I understand that the OS and the pre-installed softwares may take up some rom space. However, I can't remember any other device taking up more than 70-80MB max on the rom! Besides, there aren't many software that are built-in to the device!
So where did our space go?!?!?!
Anyone know?
Τhe windows folder after hard reset is 113 mb !!!! I think we need new ROM...

There is a mxip_initdb file that takes 16MB!!!

Hi,
I am sorry if the question is obvious but I don't know what is diference about storage and main memory to install software.
The soft that I decide install in storage does not need reinstall after hard reset?
Regards
Bye
Hi..
storage=ROM
Main memory=storage memory, wich is part of RAM
Program memory=RAM(random access, like RAMs used on pc)
RAGO
Thanks,
Then, I supose that the soft that I decide install in storage does not need reinstall after hard reset?
Bye
Your device has two types of memory, Flash-ROM and RAM
The Alpine has 128mb of RAM and 128mb of Flash-ROM
Flash-ROM is non-volatile, just like an SD Card it needs no power to keep the data on the chip, think of it like a little hard drive (It is often refereed to as "Disk on Chip")
RAM needs power to it to keep it running.
The Operating System for the device is stored on the Flash-ROM. When you hard reset your device the Operating System is read from Flash-ROM and installed to RAM. But the operating system on the Flash-ROM does not use the full 128mb, only about half of it.
So you can use the free 64mb of the Flash-ROM as Storage. On the Andies, that is how it comes from the factory, but on some other devices you have to "Unlock" this free space.

this is right, but although it's files still exist there after a hard reset,u will not be able to open it from start programs, because the hard reset u performed has deleted the shortcuts...therefore,all u have to do after a hard reset is to locate the .exe file of the software in the storage, copy it,and go to windows/start menu/programs and paste a shortcut....this method also applies to softwares installed to SD or MMC....(note that not all the softwares will work, some of them install drivers and other files in windows directory, meaning that a hard reset will erase those files, required for the software to run)....
RAGO
Many thanks again
Bye
With the latest rom upgrade to 1.37 the diamond is much snappier and is much much better than its original rom 1.35.
What is disappointing though is that the diamond comes with only 60Mb free storage for the user as compared to 115-150mb for the kaiser or tytnII(all these devices comes with 256mb rom)
Htc ought to install some of its default programs and files eg opera, music, ringtones and pictures, etc that had occupied space in the rom(storage) into its internal storage which had 4 gig instead of using the precious rom space that had only 256mb thereby freeing the rom storage space for additional programs to be install by the user.
Perhaps some rom developer can make a clean rom and the default programs can be installed into the internal storage as cab files subsequently
If the above is done the diamond will definitely shines.
I am therefore looking forward to using the touch pro as it comes with 512mb rom and therefore I assume that the free rom storage should be adequate for the user to install a lot of additional programs

Where can one get the updated ROM? I just got my diamond a week ago.. its sluggish at times.. freeze's atleast once every other day.. etc.. I am currently running 1.34.831.1 WWE.
Thank you in advance.
according to the htc helpdesk version 1.37 is not much different from 1.35
it is just a new country rom.

Huh? What's the point of that? Why not just install your user apps to the storage? Besides, installing factory-shipped apps in a user-deletable area is a crazy idea.

This will happen. Why you'd want to waste space installing the optional apps into your precious storage space instead of the spare ROM space intended for that purpose I don't know though...

so you get 256MB (probably actually a lot less, they'll install more) more ROM, and that's better how?
Hi All,
When i try to start tomtom navigator 7 you see a startup screen than in a few seconds my touch diamond give me a error with the text not enough memory does somybody now what the problem is?? Because i have enough memmory left !!
have you got other programs running in the background?
No nothing at all !
Storrage 61 mb available,
Programs 41 mb available.
(This is the memory use)
hmm... much installed on internal memory?
i try and keep games/apps installed on Internal Storage, then just system stuff in memory
On my internal memory i got more than 1 gb space that must be enough i guese??
thats ur internal storage,
when you install a program you get a choice to install to memory or storage.
if u go to Start-> Settings -> System -> Memory, it will tell you under 'Program' how much RAM you have left to run progs. Under 'Storage' is how much storage space you have left on 'Internal Memory'.
I do not see anyware in system memory ram use only the use is marked bij mb's an than i have 47 of 111mb so that must be enough i hope?
yeh that should be fine.
i usually have around the 50mb mark, and run IGo8 and TTN7 fine...
did you install TT7 or did it come with the phone?
I install it butt i try it around 5 times and delet it when it doent work maybe there are some hidden files left behind that cause the problem?
yeh... where did u download it from?
I have the same sort of thing, except I get the memory issue, when I exit the problem lol. I too have plenty of memory on both side, using repack 3 version.
It doesn't cause any problems, except for being annoying lol
newsgroups!
I don't have this problem on mine running Dutty's 2.0 but when my friend installed it on his, he had memory problems using the official Orange shipped 1.37. I thought an update would cure it, but upgrading it to the official Orange update didn't work either. Can't remember offhand how much memory he had left to work with.
ROM related or memory related?
Presume you have soft-reset and fired up the program from scratch.....??
If this still doesn't "fix" the issue uninstall and re-install to internal storage (again?) and see if that sorts it...
If you still have the issue you may have to source a different TT7 install same (there are at least 2, repack for the "older" rev works fine for me)....
...still have an issue, then I would look to a hard reset to clear any erronious changes you may have inadvertantly made
Last Hurah......instal a different/newer W6.1 CE ROM (not sure what you are using now...)
Good luck...I'm sure you will get it
I had this and you need to uninstall it and reinstall it on your internal memory. I will not work installed to you device.

and when i calculate all processes toghether its just 14 mb...but it says that i have just 4 mb left?
do i need to flash rom then again?
and do you know a good tool that i dont loos the data?
because im not at home so i cannt loose the whole data?
You should install a task manager utility which closes programs when you click 'X' instead of minimizes them. One of the task manager is wkTask, or you may install htc Task Manager.
If you only have a little RAM when you started the device, uninstall those cosmetic things such as M2D, touchFLO, SPB things as they suck up memory a lot.
ok...thanks i changed the settings...in the htc task manager you can either close or minimize the programs...
and i deleted mobile shell that was a big thing...
and do you know any other wayz of getting the wizard faster?
Hallo everyone,I am stuck in a problem for a long time,As you know,X1'ROM is 512 MB,but my device storage space is always about 200 MB though my rom file is usually smaller than 100MB,I thought it should be about 512-100≈400 MB or some Left,I wonder Where does the missing 400-200=200MB space go?and need a way can solve this,THX
Finally I get the reason,Because i use OSBuilder to create Imgfs.bin, and now I use ImgfsFromDump,It is OK now, thanks all the same!
Hmm, I think device memory is slip into 2 sections... 1 is Storage, 1 is Program... Maybe i wrong, but if u should check that in ur X1, Settings---> SD card and Phone Storage.
U will see that there are 2 section for all, Device and SD card, and Device has 2 sections that are Total storage and Total Program.
Hope u understand my English, I'm learning Eng now, so i still practice it
It depends on rom what you are using. The rom file (nbh) is compress so the decompressed size is about 2 times larger. And people usually use the cutomization what starts after rom update. It also uses some space. Just do a hard reset and see how much space is used.
So yes the 200MB is believable.

thanks for your relpy , And Maybe I did'nt describe it well , I mean when I cooked a rom that is 100 MB then they storage space is 200MB , When rom is 80 MB ,the storage is still 200MB , even 60 MB, no space increase or decrease when rom is smaller or bigger, that's the problem
