Just tested my friends Kaiser and I was hoping that one of you could help me incorporate one of the features to my phone. I've got a Herald and one thing I've noticed with the TytnII is that when you press FN+Wi-Fi on the keyboard it turns on wifi instead of opening comm manager like the phones have always done. Anyone with some spare time or knowledge care to find out where this registry setting is, or how to enable this for other pda's. It's the little convieniences such as these that make the experience of using pocketpc that much better.
cheers
Don't know, I use AE Button to map the center nav button to Press-and-hold to bring up com manager.
about 100 views I guess no one's got anything on this one. I guess I will have to get my hands on the kaiser again to figure this one out.
Thanks anyway guys...
I might add that AE Button also allows you to map any key to direct radio controls. I have a button mapped to toggle Bluetooth and WiFi radios on and off individually, without having to open comm manager. It's a very valuable PDA app.
cool, I wasn't aware of that. I guess I'll try it out.
Thanks alot
It's even cooler, I just installed the com manager from another thread here that has a 3G disable button so that you can save battery when not in need of high speed. This new com manager doesn't have the "Data" button to break the connection. AE Button allows you to map a button to "end dialup connection" which replaces that missing function.

This will drive me crazy. I have had the button above the volume mapped to Voice Command ever since I can remember. Now for the Tilt, it is mapped to Push to talk which I will never, ever use and the button mapping does not allow you to reassign it. Does anyone know if this is possible with any of the button manager programs? Do I need to flash the Kaiser ROM for this?
Also, the 8125 had a feature where you held this button down and it would swap the sound over to vibrate. If anyone knows how to get this working on the Kaiser, I highly recommend it. Beats having to pull the phone out of the holster/case to silence it, especially in a meeting.
Search for the answer.... It is here.
tried searching on push to talk. searching on buttons brings back a ton of results, none of which are specific to this particular problem. any suggestions on where to search and for what term or phrase?
Update, I found one... over in the hermes forum. This would be a good addition to the cab list sticky now that more folks are getting the AT&T ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279585&highlight=push+to+talk+map
I'll update after I have tried it on the Tilt
PTTFix work fine per the tread reference above but even though it allows you to assign a program to press and hold, there is no program "per se" to enact the vibrate setting. I do see this option on the HTC Home Screen though so maybe it is possible to create a shortcut in the Program Files directory and call it indirectly. I'll try this later when I have some time, but if anyone else gets to it first, please do share. TIA
this will do it for you.
I was never a fan of PTT anyway... Thanks for the CAB Tim. Works like a charm. For those curious, the option to select Vibra switch will be found under Settings > Buttons. Remap Button 6 to Vibra (Switch).
Spoke too soon. The PTTFix cab showed the buttons under the setting window, but after setting them, it still brought up the PTT screen. I though perhaps it needed a soft reset, and after doing so the ability to remap the PTT button disappeared.
isdereks, did you try this on the Tilt or the Kaiser? I am thinking the latter, since the PTTFix.cab shows the PTT button as a second button 5. Perhaps this is part of the problem of why it looks like it allows the setting, but doesn't actually work.
Bummer. I am quite disappointed. On top of all the bloatware, you get a button that launches an app that immediately errors out as I am not a PTT subscriber. HTC and MS should be pissed that AT&T is making the iPhone look like a clear winner. Pretty soon Apple will be running comercials with the big bloated guy for the iPhone too.
Sorry forgot to mention that I did this on the Kaiser.
yeah the new PTTFix did not work on my tilt, but worked great on my 8525. I hope this gets updated for the tilt.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334759
yeah tried all that and the reg settings do not stay after phone is shut down.
Worked for me. You have to read the whole post.
For my own purposes as well, here are the consolidated steps to take. Until someone improves on this, I keep all this stuff in a directory so I can reconfigure my device as necessary. Here goes...
I think the trick is the PTT settings take precedence when the device boots up so delete the PTT registry settings under HKLM/Services/PTT. Delete the whole sub tree, then
From HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
Add a new key called "40C6"
Add a string under the key called "Name" with the value "Button 6"
Add a new key called "40C7"
Add a string under this key called "Name" with the value "Button 6 (hold)"
(Note, do not enter the quotes, thare are to delimit what belongs in the registry entry)
Go to the Buttons settings and assign a program to the new entries. I di Voice Dial and Vibra (Switch) from the link earlier in the this post.
Do a soft reset which will remove the PTT settings from the buffer and enable your key changes.
Thanks for all the help.
I'd say the only caveat is if you some day want to use the PTT features, it would be a good idea to take an inventory fo what is under the PTT node in the registry.
It worked "GREAT". Thanks and so easy even I could do it
Instead of deleting the "PTT" key, i suggest simply renaming it to "PTTbak". That way you can just rename it back to "PTT" if you ever need to use it.
Thats what i did, and it works fine.
BTW, excellent work everyone. After upgrading to the tilt from the 8525 i lost 2 side buttons (comm manager button and the PTT button)... now i've got at least one back!
Maybe someone could offer a suggestion. For the life of me, I cannot get the reg entries of 40C6 and 40C7 to stick. I am using PHM Registry Editor. I am powering down and back up. Anyone have any suggestions?

did you delete the ptt key? (or at least rename as was suggested above?)
if you did try using the phone for while after you make the registry changes - run some other programs - then power down
greg
Greg, I renamed it and then nothing would happen. no button map and no PTT action. I am about ready to give up. But I will try your suggestions. Thanks.
NOw I got the PTT action back (the PTT screen pops up) but I cannot get the the button to do anything. I made the hold vibra and the direct push VC. Now nothing happens. Not sure what I did wrong. Not a noob at reg edits and I don't see anything wrong.
Oh well, not that big a deal, but am still open for more suggestions.
i tried renaming the PTT registry key and it didnt work. actually deleting it worked.
REG PTT
After doing the reg posted above the PTT button is free but you will notice after you push it, before the new app assigned to it pops up you will see the ptt screen for a second. What if the phone things you are using the ptt function and not Voice command or Viigo like I am?
I find the windows mobile connection manager to be really horrible. Is there a more intuitive replacement available ? I'm not talking about the one with the HTC rom that just turns the various radios on/off.
It sure seems like there should be something with a scrollable list of connections (wifi / cellular / vpn) with a simple "connect" and "disconnect" button handy.
The way windows mobile does it just isn't intuitive at ALL.
Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks !
Couldn't agree more, speaking as someone who has just spent an entire weekend trying to get applications to work with my wifi and most of this morning trying to get my email working again (silly me, I should have "My ISP" selected).
And I never even touched the settings and Vodafone put the settings on there themselves!
There must be a better way?
I am using PhoneAlarm and the skin provides direct icons to switch On / Off the GPRS Radio the WiFi Radio and the BlueTooth. The icons also have indicator lights so that you know the status of a particular Radio
Hope this helps
couldn't agree more, is there anyway we can map one of the buttons to Comm manager? Any registry hack for that? I recently did the PTT button hack and looking to link it to Comm manager...
by default there's a button on the today screen on the kaiser right out of the box. There's a ton of hacks and ways to change it if you arent happy. It amazes me that people buy this phone and dont know how to upgrade/change things. MyFirstPhone sounds like a much better phone for some.

Either the 6 or 10 button comm manager does exactly what you describe, but don't want. If you don't like it, create your own app to do it.
Personally, I am very, very grateful for the apps and utilities that people have created on this site. My life is so much easier.
I mapped the 10 button comm manager to my PTT button, so it's one button and one click to turn on/off any radio. It is NOT going to get any easier than that.

Uff
No, it doesn't.
Show me where you can disconnect and/or connect a VPN connection in the 6 or 10 button comm manager.
Screen shots happily accepted.

Some people you can never please....
It can control all RADIOS, which is what I stated. Some people complain about having to make a couple of extra clicks. The 10 button comm manager makes my life quite a bit easier, that's why I suggested it.

heh that makes me wonder also. its not the end of the world if you have to use an extra button press but some people will do anything to save one button press or complain their phone wont do what they want
A half solution ?
Hi
You can use mortscript “connect” function to start RAS connections of your choice, not only the "default connection" selected in "Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks".
Leave in selected connections a dummy connection without any modem or vpn definition (like My Work Network) in both Internet profile and Private profile. In This configuration WM can’t make a connection himself (no un-wanted connection).
For disconnection I use the disconnect button in top bar connection status provide by Schap’s Advanced configuration : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
I write a little mortscript exemple to start RAS connections and exclude in choice list default system connection (Work, The Internet, WAP Network, etc…) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1794522&postcount=181
You can also use BaterryStatus Advanced Edition with his Phone-TrayIcon : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751
Sorry for my poor English.
Hey Guyz....
First off, 'THIS IS THE BEST SITE EVER' for die-hard WM fans.
This is my first query on this site since i got no answers after a day of search.
I have an ATT TILT and I recently made the PTT key remappable.
I want to activate WiFi directly by pressing the key but dnt knw how to add this option in the drop down menu while configuring the key in 'start>settings>buttons'.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Install this small program
vijay makes a small program that when used with command line parameters can toggle WiFi. http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
Install this program then you'll have to make your own shortcut with the appropriate command line. You can then add the link to the registry entry for the mapped button.
Thanks 4 the reply..the software says its compatible with WM5 only....I have a WM6...my mistake, shud have mentioned it earlier..!!
Any other suggestions?
THANKS
UPDATE: Found an easier app at http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php. This app has a GUI (unlike Vijay's app) which is more convenient. There are loads of other options too like 'long press config' n stuff!!
im looking if anyone knows of just a small program i can install that acts like the "Close" function of Spb Pocket Plus. i want to be able to hold the ptt button to close the running program...
i've searched and had no luck
If your running a custom rom or anything apart from the ATT rom you can do this without additional software. Just go to "Settings" and "Buttons".
im running att 6.1
i just dont want to have to install pocket plus for one stupid function that it gives me
Quick Menu does this as well
Quick Menu does this as well... i personally like the program a lot cos of its various functions.. one of them is that you can get the OK key to close programs... and it has a small memory footprint... above all, its free... check it out at www.alensw.com ... hope this helps
so i tried quick menu... didnt really like that...
any suggestions?
you know how spb mobile shell has the ability to made a soft reset a program icon? i want that for close program. just to be able to assign it to a hard key...

I use AE Buttons Plus and it's small and works great. I have the "close active program" assigned to a long press of the OK button. It even has a task manager you can bring up with a hardware button and kill programs just by using the d-pad.
You can find it here: http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php.

But can you close the active program? There is no "close active program" program in WM to assign a button to. Unless this has that feature built into it (as AE Button Plus does), I know of no way to do it just by pressing a hardware button, which is what the OP requested. Also, you can use AE Button Plus as unregistered for an unlimited time, but it is so cheap, that I decided to buy it.
hbutton - taskmanager
I'm using HTC Taskmanager with 'end programs by tapping X' - with 'OK/Close' Button mapped to my Hardware-OK-Button in Hbutton it works perfect for me....
Hello. I apologize for making another thread like this.
I've searched through Google as well as XDA Dev, but I can't find how to remap the PTT_Long button to use for an "Ok"
I know how to remap the PTT short and long buttons to things like camera, voice command, or any other program/software, but I'm having trouble mapping it to be an "OK" button.
The reason I want this is that I got this program called LoudTalks (walkie talkie like program) that uses the center circular button of the fuze to initiate the microphone. I want to use the PTT to start the microphone, because its more convenient.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Also, I tried going to Settings>Personal>Buttons and doing it from there but when I'm in the area where you're suppose to press the hardware button you want to remap, it doesn't recognize it. I've tried soft-resetting a few times.
I'm using the Elite RC3 Rom.
Thanks
http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
I've all ready seen that. THat just remaps it to "Close" not "Ok"
Just get AEButton Plus and create a new button then you can map it either to programs or functions like OK with maybe a map for a long press to close. Grab it on my site or google it.
