What's the best way of transferring my contacts from my MDA Vario to my new MDA Vario III. It looks like my old one has them stored on the phone rather than the SUM.
I tried Activesync but this said I don't have Outlook installed for the Vario III.
How have you guys done it ?
Vario III rocks
search for pim.vol -its like that on my uni - might be the same...

Easist way? Download the Outlook trial version, install, sync both phones, do a system restore.
I use an app called EasyHelper
http://easyhelper-contact-sms-backup.en.softonic.com/pocket
Easy to use and works

...and that's the EASIEST way???
Not if you ask me.....why don't you just use DotFred's PPCPIMbackup utility (Posted HERE) to backup the contacts (and anything else), copy the backup file to your desktop PC via ActiveSync, then copy onto the new device and re-run PPCPIMbackup to restore it all again....
Now, THAT'S the easiest way!!!!
Mark.
Or you can use the 15 day trial version of Jeyo Mobile Extender. I used this to transfer my texts and call history from my Vario to my Vario III.

Hi All,
I am considering upgrade from 1.6.7.1 to 2.16.9.101. The only think that still hold me is backup of my sms messages.
My question is - Is there are way to back up sms messages without any backup SW (e.g. spbBack etc.)?
I know from Outlook that it holds all its mails in single file, which I can just copy to DVD and after fresh install import. I suspect that it should be the case with Pocket Outlook as well. And as long as SMS are part of Pockect Outlook, they should be kept in the same file. Where is that file and can I replace it after new ROM installation?
Thanks in advance
helo there, brother.. am here with a solution for ur problem and yet, another question aswel..
u can use jeyo mobile companion 1.1 to backup all ur sms's.. i use this to backup my sms if i hardreset my fone or reflash my rom.. really useful software.. hope this helps..
now heres my question, jeyo mobile companion doesnt allow me to back up sms's in folders, ie, i have a specific folder in my inbox for the sms my girlfriend sends me.. but wen i do the backup with jeyo mobile companion, it does not backup the msgs in the folder.. i'l hav to move the msgs to the inbox folder b4 i backup and after i restore them, i hav to move them bak to folders.. so i wud like to kno an application that would backup sms and folders as well.. thanx in advance
Well,
Your proposal is solution, however not exactly into the direction I am looking for... jeyo usage means that I have to use third party SW to backup my SMS messages and restore them afterwards.
So let me repeat what I want to do:
1. Take from my PPC file where all my SMS are stored (using file explorer and Active Sync);
2. Save this file to my laptop;
3. Flash ROM;
4. Replace new, empty file created by fresh Pocket Outlook on PPC with mine.
If somebody can tell me how to perform that sequence it will be really appreciated,
Thanks in advance
I guess they are in the root of the mobile device.. one of those .vol files maybe? You could try these files. (After you've secured your sms-messages with a third-party program of course - as a temporary solution)
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately I am not able to copy any of those files (cemail for instance). I have got the message "Cannot copy "cemail". There has been sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."
I suspect that this file is already locked by some system applications running. Any ideas are welcomed,
Regards

With spb backup you can backup only your contacts, E-mail and SMS messages if you want to, works great. I have mine backing these up every night in case of crash.
I found if you use the file explorer in the mda to copy everything to a mini sd card you overcome the "sharing violation" error.
ok guys i have a lil problem and i hope you'll help me to solve it...
recently ive upgraded my 9090 to wm5 and ive made a backup using sprite software... however im not able to force that piece of software to restore my inbox and contacts on the new system... i have a fresh backup, made using wm2003 xBackup software and here goes the question...
is it possible to restore xBackup's backup file on wm5 (helmi 1.3.2)?
(the file is called CompactFlashBackUpPim)
No, you can't do it. The different versions of the OS store the data differently. You need to go back to 2003, activesync your contacts etc to your PC, upgade, then re-sync. I think the upgrade guide mentions this.
I always keep mine sync'ed anyway, so doing an upgrade is a very quick process. I also keep cabs on the SD card so I can quickly install everything.
and is it a way to see the data like appointments or contacts from that backup file?
WM2003 > WM6 contacts etc problems ?
Hey ,
I just loaded WM6 on my o2 xdaIIs or Blue anger as you say,
now i have several issues in front of me:
1. the backup file ( 2 files individually created on WM 2003) from both " spb and x backup (inbuilt in WM 2003) " won't restore any thing i.e. contacts,Apps, notes anything on my new WM6.
i tried restooring from both the files but to no avail.
any solution how to get my contacts back.
Note: i didn't sync with my PC, so no contacts loading from syncing with pc
2. there's no send via bluetooth option in file explorer.
3. when dialing no.s from keypad of BA, the no functionality won't happen. i.e. only alphabets appear, but in WM2003 no.s did appear.
i guess you haven't really completed the upgrade to wm6. you should do the reset + no/yes/yes + mail button routine.
I already did the same, but the problem is from the beginning, is there any way i can get my contacts from the backup files back ???
and what about the keys issue !!! and bluetooth funda !
the only way is to switch back to wm2003 restore ur backup, sync ur contacts or save them on sim than put wm6 again get ur contact back.
Hi,
now i want to downgrade to WM2003,
but going to the wiki gets me confused, b'coz of the several ROM's there.
now the thing is i have O2 xda IIS, India, and i have the official O2 asia WM2003SE ROM downloaded from the website of O2, that has been made for my Mobile only, but now as i have WM6 and i guess while upgrading to WM6, i deleted the contry code etc...., so now the O2 ROM is not detecting my Mobile,
can anybody help me out here !!!
DO THIS
1. extract the file given below.
2. put the rom file which u hv downloaded from the o2 site (file=nk.nba) in the same folder where above files were extracted.
3. put ur pda in boot loader by holding Pwr+camera+rec+reset.
4. screen shows bootloader serial.
5. run maupgradeutilitynoid.exe (it will skip country id)
6. do a update by clicking next next and so on
I have something like this pb on my Qtek 9090. But i think after upgrade the contacts database is crashed cause any CM application terminates immediately after being launched:
NullReferenceException.

Hi
I want to transfer the SMS's text messages on my HTC Touch to my HTC Diamond. I have look on various forums and tried various software OEExporter & SMSexporter but no luck.
HTC's website says 'It can't be done at the moment' but is it possible & how?
Please if can anybody help!
Try to save your cemail.vol on Touch and restore it on Diamond
To save your cemail.vol on Touch, try to move temporarely your .vol on internal storage (see my post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411087) and for restore on Diamond, try to do the same before copy it
Just delete or rename the registry key to "restore" the original location
Good Luck

Just use PimBackup 2.8 from this site. Export the sms on your touch and import them on the diamond.
TDO
Be carreful, Pimbackup just export SMS, not MMS (pb with attachement)
But Pimbackup is the best solution to do this
To restore attachement with "my method", just restore Windows\Attachment and My Documents\UA Caontent directories (from Touch to Diamond)

Hi,
I've successfully used the mentioned reg key, to move the DbPath to another location or file name. Than I've copied back a cemail.vol to the original location. However, it never shows the SMS in my old cemail.vol.
Reason is:
I've made an ROM upgrade from original (slow) T-Mobile ROM to the latest Dutty, posted here in the forum.
I've made a backup of the device before that using SPB. It created an .exe backup and I've extracted the cemail.vol out of it.
I'm deadly missing my old SMS that should be stored in the cemail.vol, right?
Can someone help me to retrieve all those SMS from my cemail.vol (if it's in there?)
Thanks a lot guys - I've been trying since two days now
Regards,
J
i recommend using Jeyo Mobile companion, PimBackup didn't seem to save my threading on the SMS
And it also does contacts, emails etc etc
hi m a proud owner of xperia x1i i'v the following problems:-
1) i've lost the original active sync cd which came bundled with the phone dur to which i'm not able to connect my xperia to my laptop via active sync or windows mobile device centre.
2) i flash roms regularly, so i need to save my contacts in my laptop or make a back up of my contacts.
pz help me out...thanx in advance...
you can download active sync at microsoft.com just google it , otherwise copy all contacts to sim card
There are several solutions for your problem: Backup software like SPB Backup, SK Tools... They create self extracting backup files or backup files that can be restored using the corresponding program (in case of SK Tools). Another possibility is to use a software that exports your contacts to a xml file. And of course you can download active synch from the MS website.

you can use PIM manager. unlike spb backup, this is a freeware, and i have been using it for years now. below is the download link
www.freewareppc.com/database/pimbackup.shtml
this saves it on your sd card as
