So I want to check my yahoo email from my AT&T tilt, however according to AT&T there is NO way to do it unless I pay Yahoo $20/year for something. I had it all set up when I first got the Tilt a few days ago and it worked intermitt for a while, but quit last night. After calling tech support they wanted me use xpress mail, but that does not get all the folder info from yahoo.
So, per tech I deleted the accounts, hard reset (I soft reset at the bloatware load) and now I need to install a new email account to check yahoo. After doing so, I get an error that says to check my user name and password...but I know they are correct. I did not get this error before, just got intermit email retrieval.
Is there a chance that when talking to tech they notified yahoo or flipped a switch or something so that there is no way I can do this now.
OR is there a way to check my Yahoo email without using xpress mail...OR by using xpress mail and being able to see all the folders I have in yahoo?
Thanks much...I tried the wiki and the search but did not find any info...although I am sure someone will point me to the solution right away.
outlook on your device should auto detect settings for yahoo, mine works fine and i'm not payin yahoo a cent for access
It does auto detect the pop stuff when I am setting up the email account, however I still get the "check password and user name" error.
i have no problems here...are you sure your putting in the right passworkd username?? lol iot happens to me also
Yahoo used to have a great add on app similar to windows live for hotmail but they put out a new one that blows and didn't allow you to sync your mail with outlook. Thats why I switched to hotmail. Plus i love being able to sync my contacts with my hotmail account.
there's another alternative, one of these threads shows how to direct all mail to a server and just set outlook to that to get everything you need from it
Well...to make me even more mad...I leave the house, go for a drive with the same "bad user name and password" and all of a sudden...BLING...I have mail! So I guess I have the right user name and password. WTF man? I just do not get it...and of course the knuckleheads at AT&T don't get it either. At least I have a non-bloatware phone now...stock ROM though.
Appreciate the help and continued comments.
stock rom shouldnt have to do with it but then again anything is possible these days.i never came across that issue with my old tornado,my 8125,hermes or my kaiser
At this point it still working, but I have little faith that it will continue as such.
Still reloading all my cabs after the reset...forgot I already put that much in this thing...might need to rethink it some. I will flash this sucker sometime soon...still have 20 days to return it if I am not happy.
Thanks again,
Well...that did not last long...it is back at it. Again with the "check your login and password" error. So, could there be a connection issue... ie. do I have to be in 3G to get email? I am on the edge of 3G coverage here.
I just do not get it.
since you get service on and off like that, it may be a different issue. being on 3g or not doesnt affect it, only affect the speed of your transfers.
at this point i dont get it either, maybe it's somethign wrong on Yahoo's end. could be blocking access to their yahoo mail service, making you sign up for their paid service or using thier new app yahoo 2.0 soon to be 3.0
I can't believe someone still uses Yahoo mail when there's Gmail.. It just boggles my mind.
yea i use gmail and comcast mail and have everything forwarded thats important to my gmail.i tend to use yahoo mail only for spam
Gmail has the best hands-down no-argument spam filter.
And charging people for POP3? Are you freaking ****ting me? What is this, 1980? How about charge them $1/email? Fraking ridiculous.
Well, I see you all don't like Yahoo...but that is what I use and I really like it...been using it for years. EVERYONE knows that email address and I I can't risk not having it for now.
But, this morning as I am talking AT&T about this thing...I explain that I have friends that get Yahoo mail...she says "it won't work, there is no way to do it"...then I tell her there is a forum where I posted this question and she says "look sir I do this for a living and I can assure you it will NOT work"...right then I get Yahoo mail on my phone. I tell her, "you might want to think about your line of work a little, or even switch careers and be a coffee jockey somewhere...cuz I JUST GOT YAHOO MAIL ON MY PHONE!!!".
Needless to say she was speechless for like 2 minutes. Then I concluded the call.
For most of today...while not in a 3G area...I got emails. I still don't get it.
I will look into the Gmail thing, however I just can't afford to not have my Yahoo account right now. Years ago I looked at Gmail and it was a joke...this was like 8 years ago or something...so I am sure it is greatly improved.
Thanks again for the help,
I get the same issue listed above, was there ever a fix for this. I've tried everything listed in the thread. I can't drop my Yahoo because I have way to many personal and business contacts linked to this e-mail. I just can't figure out why it is giving me password errors, any advice?

Was using yahoo and hotmail for the longest time too so I understand your reluctance to switch, AFAIK you can set most these web mail services to forward mail to another address and also have a "reply to:" feature this will make it easier for you to migrate to a new address if ever you do decide to do so. I migrated to Gmail a few years back because they had free POP forwarding. Now that I don't have a PC at home I use my device for all my email. Currently I have 5 email accounts on my tytn2.
3 Gmail = 1 for personal , 1 for forums i join, 1 for mobile , 1 Live Hotmail = the occasional straggler emails, and 1 Yahoo = the occasional straggler emails.
Oh and I don't use POP anymore all of the above are IMAP [Gmail also has free IMAP forwarding]
Yahoo does not provide POP3 email forwarding unless you pay $20 a year for "MAIL PLUS"
see this
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/manage/manage-69.html
you can get your email here
http://us.m.yahoo.com/
on your browser
I got yahoo mail though the AT&T application XpressMail, it worked all the time and you can schedule it to check your email at an interval, its free i havent been charged whatsoever unless its because i use it through wifi. the great thing is it integrates with mobile outlook, i would advise installing that at least so your yahoo problems are solved
Yahoo Go
I used this one and it worked out well, Yahoo Go 2.0. I can't find the download link as i'm in a rush out the door. But this manages your yahoo mail rather well and has other nice features. When I get the my study spot I'll try to find the link and post it.
OK folks, does anyone have any recommendations for Gmail push mail for the Kaiser?
Gmail App: Either adding this to your phone, or using it online on your phone seems to work well, but, unless I'm an idiot, there is no push--you have to check your e-mail manually. That kinda kills it.
emoze: http://www.emoze.com/en/get/index.asp. This is a neat little app that you install on your phone, and it seems to log you into a server that checks your Gmail (or Yahoo, whatever) and then pushes whatever it finds there to your phone. However, this seems relatively buggy and unreliable. One, if it works when you send an email, not long after it will download that sent email to your phone and tell you you have an email. Two, it wants to fiddle with your activesync settings which don't seem to work too well.
mobiPush: At http://www.mobiPush.com. Well, this seems unreliable, or at least, slow as hell. Now, being used to text messages, maybe the speed is normal for push mail, I don't know. Oddly enough, it won't connect to the internet when I have my USB cable plugged in, even though I have "Allow wireless connections" checked in activesync.
mail2web live: http://services.mail2web.com/FreeServices/. I have no idea, I haven't tried it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Other suggestions? Want to point out my glaring errors? Feel free, and thanks!
Do you have issues w/ Imap? I have mine setup to check every 15 or 30 minutes and only keep 3 days of messages on my phone so it doesn't get too cluttered. I dont have the issue of sending an email and having the sent message show up as new when using this manner either. Just a thought/suggestion.
My gmail pushes to kaiser perfectly fine...
It's an option in Gmail you have to set.
Seven

this pushes email great for me

I just found that and set it up, thank you!
What I'm trying to avoid is having the phone check for email, and it seems that with Gmail IMAP you have to tell the phone to check at whatever intervals you want.

When you say it's "an option in Gmail you have to set," can you be more specific?
It seems that by setting up IMAP the phone has to check, Gmail isn't pushing mail to the phone automatically, is it? There doesn't seem to be a reason for the phone to check if Gmail is pushing.
Thoughts? And thank you!

I second that.
What the 2 guys before me said.
Gmail itself seems curiously silent about this one. Especially because it would be a MASSIVE boon to their business...

As it turns out, the USB issue was a different issue all together. That's just Activesync being kinda crappy. D'oh!
That doesn't make mobiPush suddenly awesome, just that it had nothing to do with them. Heh.
what about Flexmail? It has IMAP IDLE support which will function like push email. If you set up the Gmail IMAP account under the program, it should automatically notify you when new emails are received.
Check the Hacking and Development area for ImapPusherService. I haven't gotten it to work on mine yet, but others have had good success. It isn't perfect, but as long as you don't SR very often it should work no problem. Downside, if you do a SR you have to relaunch the program and reenter your username and password.
I was just going to say the same thing having read this thread last night but not replied. ImapPusherService is what you're after. Very fast and works well. It's going to be THE software for pushing email to windows mobile.
FYI if you haven't got it working you should dump the tracking file and send it to the developer but before you do this try putting recent: before your username like this recent:username
and here's the link
http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
BTW Seven in my experience is poor. Use it if you want an email client that doesn't push but simply checks for email every 5 minutes and takes up memory. Oh wait. pocket outlook does this without taking up extra memory!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check into this, as it ain't free. I must say that gives me a bit more confidence as I bought Pocket Informant recently. That program goes a bit overboard, but it does what they say it will do.
Gracias.

what do you mean check for email every 5 minutes? seven isn't push?
Why use an app? go to your Gmail page and enable pop ( under settings ) Works great for me. I have mine saving 1 weeks worth of emails on the phone, automatically downloading all attachments, as well as updating every 5 minutes.... Never had an issue. I use my gmail rather than my blackberry email from work because the Kaiser handles mail SOOOOOO much better with attachments.
I am using Flexmail as well and found it the best solution so far for push Gmail. Setup was relatively easy and I like the advanced folder management options that Flexmail provides. Also, html formatting is a big plus.
I tried Seven, mobipush, emoze, and mail2web. All of them had some disadvantages such as bulky background client, slow receive/send, instability with other apps, and 3rd party reply-to address (mail2web). Flexmail is well worth the cost as it connects to the Gmail imap servers directly and I typically receive emails in my phone within 10 seconds of it actually appearing on Gmail web-mail.

Thanks for the heads up on this one. As a plus: it's Free, and that's brilliant. It's small, doesn't use up much space, memory, et cetera. However, it only seems to work intermittently, and that's just not worth the trouble.
posted in DCD'd Titan Rom 3.2.5 ROM as well....
Don't know where the error is. Reflashed 3.2.5 three times, same error. Just to put it out there.... anyone using the beta program Seven for pushing email?
Gmail worked before but will not connect from the Gmail shortcut from the login screen. Yahoo and Hotmail shortcuts work fine. Went in to "Other Pop Accounts" and added Gmail there and worked fine.
Note: No issues at all regarding this with 3.2.3
Windows Live for Windows Mobile.
Its not working correctly for me on Hyper Dragon III Full rom. Installed a cab for Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800. I then set up email (I have a legacy hotmail account) via messaging > windows live. Inbox fails to sync, but contacts will sync. After fiddling with manage folders sent items will sync but junk mail wont. So at present i am able to sync contacts, and sent items, but not inbox or junk mail.
Tried thinning down both folders (Less than 50 messages each) but no dice. Any one else having difficulties with windows live and hotmail, or know of a fix for this issue?
I know the server isnt broken because i can sync sent items and contacts...
Trim them down some more. Same thing happened to me. I think Microstink changed server settings and won't synch a heavily loaded inbox. I have only 26 items in hotmail inbox now and it works fine.
I thought they took care of the heavily loaded inbox by only displaying last 50 msgs...
Any who, slimmed inbox to 21 messages, and still no sync "Failed to synchronize Inbox"
Surprisingly junk email did sync with only 5 messages... Ill slim down my inbox some more, bur will be upset if my inbox will only sync with 5 msgs.
It worked after slimming inbox to 4 msgs. whats the point.
Had 25 emails in my inbox and it brok'd again... Boo . Is there another way to sync hotmail besides going to mobile live via PIE, or using mobile live?
This is ridiculous, i would say its an issue with my build current build of Windows Live Mobile, but sent items and junk mail are syncing now... Its the inbox that wont sync. It seems to be very enigmatic.
Anyone having luck syncing hotmail/live inbox with other builds of Windows Live Mobile? If so what build are you using? What rom are you running?
Thanks in advance,
James
This happened all of a sudden for me... I don,t think it's a ROM issue but a server issue. Might be a good time to consider using Gmail. I don't have this issue with my Gmail account.
Not a bad idea .
Hotmail seems to be working ATM. I'm gonna have it do syncs every 15 min for the next day or so.
Opened a gMail account as well, nice that they have imap!
What's the maximum attachment limit for Hotmail on mobile?
It doesn't seem to bother with anything bigger than 2MB... how lame!
Kinda makes HSDPA pointless lol
I've always had problems with Windows live, first setup it syncs flawlessly then nothing but fails. Totally useless. Like you say whats the point in having to log in via PIE, clear your emails out, then re-sync. I'm absolutely amazed that Microlimp haven't sorted this out yet I mean come on its not like people receive less that 5 messages a day what with spam and whatnot.
Useless.
The only solution I think is to forward all your mails to a Gmail account, but im pretty sure that's not a free service, nothing in life usually is.
Live Mail won't download
I've been running into the same problem where my hotmail account won't download. The symptoms are that the email account works fine (access from a PC always works), then suddenly poof, my phone won't synchronize with the server anymore.
On the WindowsMobile website, this is a known problem with the email service and MSFT is trying to fix it, but it's still broken.
The workaround is to find the offending piece of email that is causing the logjam. Once it's been moved to a non-synchronizing folder or has been deleted, Live Mail downloads just fine again. The problem is finding the offending piece of email. For expediency, I just copy ALL my mail to another folder, just to get the downloading working again. I have not found the characteristics that cause the problem, but I do know it doesn't happen to simple text emails.
I've been having problems with this for the last month, very annoying.
AutoSync
So far so good, with auto syncs every 15 min. Hopefully it will last, or at least allow me to find out what mail is causing the sync to break... I didn't know that there are bugs in Windows Live, (or perhaps it !is! a feature to have sync break) maybe it should be degraded back to beta.
I have been having this problem for the last few days, thanks for the notice that it was due to an e-mail jamming it up.
It was my e-mail coming from skyfire, the one telling me to log in and dowload the beta.
I deleted it, and it is working just fine now.
Autosync
Autosync-ing every 15 min or so seems to do the trick, so far for me. Haven't had any issues since cleaning out my inbox and setting up auto sync.
* Damn, didnt realize that i get so much cr*p!
Hello all,
I've now had my TP for almost 3 months and am truly loving it. As you might know, I was a TOTAL noob to WinMo, and in regards to some of the more advanced things, I still am.
This brings me to my topic:
I would like to know if Microsoft Outlook allows for "Push" e-mail on to the TP. If not, what recommended E-mail systems are out there that can push to the TP (i.e. gmail, hotmail, yahoo)?
I am currently using Comcast, and was considering going the Mail2Web route, but it seemed too confusing...I know, I'm a moron. (As for "Seven", I've heard it's not yet stable and it severly taxes the battery.) As such, if anybody who has had success with Mail2Web and the Touch Pro, would you mind posting (or PMing) "step-by-step" instructions on how you got it working?
In either case, I also ask the more experienced people if you can either tell me or direct me to a site which explains the whole concept of Outlook, Exchange, and other elements of Push e-mail.
Thank you in advance,
- WildAce786.

I've heard it's not stable yet in that there is a delay in receiving E-mails and that it places a large drain on your battery.

Although it is still in a beta stage I don't think it unstable at all and emails at least for me being pushed from gmail come within 2 seconds. I can't disagree that it will take a toll on your battery but that's the price we pay for push email. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd also be glad to know.

I use Mail2Web. It's easy to setup, just go to Activesync and add a server and use:
[email protected] (as the username)
ur password
and skip the auto detect the server step and use:
mobile.exchange.mail2web.com (as the server)
**Note-I don't use mail2web as my email, I use gmail. And what I did was set my gmail account to foward to the mail2web account, so I get the emails pushed from both. However, the outgoing email address it shows, when I send a message is the mail2web account.
I've been using this for a while, and it works pretty good. I get email notifications pretty much instantly with this setup, and also syncs my contacts, calendar and tasks online for easy backing up

I would like to keep 3rd party sources as a second option.
First, I would like to know if Microsoft Outlook has the ability to Push E-mail to the TP without severly draining the battery.
Now, if that is not an option, then I would like some clarification on the Mail2Web process.
1) Do I need to register with mail2web first?
2) When you said
go to Activesync and add a server

, where exactly is Activesync located and how can I go about adding a server to it?
I know I sound like a moron, but that's because in this matter, I am.
another option is EMOZE. Its a good alternative to seven if you just care about emails. it really dont do the contacts too well and calendar not at all. again good app if you just care about getting your gmail emails....
Well, after a lot of searching, I went ahead with steb0ne's idea of using Mail2Web LIVE. So far it works great, especially since I've set all my comcast e-mails to autoforward to the M2W account so I can receive them "instantly" as well.
I do have a few concerns though that maybe a few of you guys can address:
1) How does Direct Push actually work? Does it establish a connection every so often looking for new messages?
2) Generally speaking, how much battery life does it drain during the course of a normal 8-hour day if I keep Direct Push active in the Comm. Manager?
3) How good is M2W at keeping SPAM messages away?
I have used seven, mail2web, and the sprint mobile email app. I prefer mail2web over the others. The sprint app is based on the seven email program, but only allows for one email address.
With the seven program I have noticed a noticeable lag in receiving my email. I have sent an email to the an account, received in on my desktop and still dont get it for up to 10min on my phone. With Mail2web I usually get it on my phone before the computer, also the online system they use will save all of your contacts, calender so you can access it from your phone or computer, as well as have an easy backup if you lose your phone, or do a hard reset.
So if I use seven, which they and Sprint say my TP is not supported, does it still send from my email addy or some seven.com email?
for me its all but useless to just get email if I cant send it.
when i try to set up active sync i put details in , user pass server, there is a field "domain" which i cannot get past unless i put something in it , trying to use mobipush and their directions are to leave domain blank but if i do i cant progress on my screen the next button wont highlight, any ideas
I've been trying to find a way to fix this...
Is there a way or a setting somewhere that stops the Tilt from downloading messages I send/reply or is that a setting a gmail. It is annoying when I reply to an email using the gmail web interface or with outlook on my PC, then my phone will download my mail as a new message. I don't really want to set up some sort of filter, since some times when I send an email, I will CC myself, but I am just annoyed by it downloading every single reply.
Uuuuuhhhhhhh o.k.
stop CC'ing yourself, just check your sent box... too simple or not complex enough a solution?

Did you read the problem or not understand it? The problem is when I reply to emails, the Tilt will download it as a new message. Where did I state that I CC myself all the time? What does checking my sent messages have anything to do with what the Tilt is downloading?
little snippy...
Pretty sure you not only said it, but now you've highlighted the fact that you sometimes CC yourself on emails sent, so yes, you would receive a copy. You would check your sent box to view messages that you have sent rather than CC'ing yourself. Mighty snippy for someone asking for help. Are you using a threaded version of Gmail? that's the only reason I could think you would receive a copy of the conversation, aside from CC'ing yourself.
If you read it, it says SOMETIMES. My problem is EVERY email reply gets downloaded. The CCs aren't a problem and not something I am complaining about. I am complaining about all replies done by me being downloaded as a new email. My response to you would have been different if you actually replied like you read it what the problem was.
updated after you posted
Trying again, are you using a threaded style of Gmail or the true Gmail website?
Not really sure. I rarely ever use the gmail website unless I am at a different computer. Most of my email comes to my phone and PC, which I remote into during work and just use Outlook to respond if I can. I'll try to explain the problem better. I apologize, just having a hectic day at work.
When someone emails me, the Tilt will download the email.
I will reply back using the tilt, or Outlook on my PC, and every once in a while, the gmail web interface. NOT CCing myself.
Tilt then downloads again, my reply and puts it in my inbox.
The only time I CC myself, is when I send out a new email that I feel is important. I do this because I like to have a copy for myself, and I empty my sent box on a weekly basis.
Also, I just did a web search on this threaded gmail thing you were talking about. It appears that is a 'feature' in gmail and it can't be disabled. It puts my replys in a 'conversation' style so it thinks that my replies are new messages and just downloads them. I guess I just have to deal with it.
More questions
Does ONLY the tilt capture all replies or do they also show up on your box at home and is this independant of from where you reply (home box or tilt)? Gmail uses a conversation view that shows reply messages as a long conversation would appear in MMS/SMS. I can't imagine that this would cause the problem but may be another piece to this puzzle.
Don't worry about my comments, I'm a smart-ass. Pretty much everyone is here to help and there are many more smart-assier (and just plain smarter) than me. Just roll with the punches and enjoy the website.
I must type slowly
I use Gmail and reply from my tilt as well, but have not had a problem. But i don't use a web app, I have gmail as a separate account that I access just like standard push-mail. What way do you use gmail?
Same problem
When I used my tilt I was having the same problem. I would send an email from my tilt (from a push account I had set up on the phone) and would receive a copy of the sent mail as a new message. I had that phone for 2 years and used various roms and could never stop it from doing so. It was very annoying to say the least. Some light on this matter would be awesome.
If I can, I just use email from the phone, or outlook on my PC if there is a large attachment. It only does it on the Tilt. My outlook on the PC is only showing up the emails from other people, and not myself. I can see on the web interface my replies though if I log on.
I have it set up on the Tilt as an account as well, so I am not using the gmail interface thru the phone. Not sure how I have it setup or if it is a seperate email software. I just click on messages and added the email account. It doesn't matter where I reply from. I also have a Yahoo account set up and it doesn't do this.
Also, the phone info:
Duttys WM6.1 build 19700
radio 1.65.14.06
I had this problem once and I was because I forget to change the "[email protected]" that I used during the initial setup back to my actual e-mail address.
I just fixed the issue. I deleted the account from the phone and recreated a new one and set it up as IMAP. I think the issue at first was because I had it set up and let the phone download the settings for me and it configured it as POP. This time, I set up everything manually and tested it out and it appears to be fine now.
