Tom Tom on Vario III Questions - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Apologies if these points have been raised before but ....
I have installed TomTom 6.032(8351) on my MDA Vario III and have found the following problems...
On start up, the sound is muted and requires two selections of sound on to activate it.
During a journey, an incoming call to bluetooth headset blanks the map screen, which returns at end of call.
On my MDA Compact III with an earlier version of TomTom, neither of these things happened.
Sound was on as default and maps stayed on with muted sound.
Can anyone advise a version of TomTom that works correctly on Vario III.
Is it TomTom, T-Mobile ROM or Windows Mobile 6 causing the problems....or something else?

Next time, please search the forum.
"you have to switch off the data connection before starting tomtom"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333680&highlight=tomtom+sound

Sorry about that and thanks.
Hardly a fix though as the data connection is often active.
Is this data connection affecting the map off during call as well?
As I said, it never happened on a slightly older version on my Compact III.

There is another simple workaround:
Roll the volume 'wheel' (in the left side), then the volume will be turned on.

Thanks gogol
There appaers to be a couple of threads from people not searching as well.
Still no answer to the map going off during a call.
Anyone?

Hi ericb,
Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question because I always turn off the data connection if I dont use it. I only use data connection for internet browsing.
I hope other user can answer.

Hi gogol
When using TomTom, I use Traffic which uses the Internet data link so it cannot be avoided.
Never mind, thanks for your help so far.
I can't be the only person with this issue.
Someone will help I am sure.

I have the same issue, but just rolling the wheel is not a hardship, TomTom will surely fix it in the next version....

TomTom 5

Sorry if this has been posted, i have checked but found nothing.
I run Navigator 5 on my XDA2i (i know 6 is out but im happy with 5, limited knowledge......am blonde lol)
However, for some reason today when i came to start TomTom, it just freezes up altogether and i have to soft reset (see blondes do listen lol) to get my phone working again.
Any ideas whats caused this and if so any ideas on how to fix it? In plain language please.
Sorry to bother everyone with a silly question but i drive loads and TomToms my life
Hi Cheryl
This is a common problem for TomTom. Whenever you r using TomTom and if someone will try to call u or send u a txt message then mostly ur device will get hanged. That is the major issue in the fixation of the version 6 (Look in TickMark 4) http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=260&Category=2&Lid=1
I am also using TomTom 5.2, even though tried version 6 but the reason of unliking was I can not turn the device horizontally as I am using 5.2 horizontally in my car and I like this view, overall version 6 is not bad.
SOLUTION:
Its hard to advice but prior to start the TomTom put your device on "Flight Mode" means disable ur network coverage and then doesn't matter how long u travel TomTom is not gonna get stuck, but u might missed lots of calls, anyway personally I think during driving specially on a motorway, incoming txt & calls can be highly hazardous.
GoodLuck

Kaiser owner with a few queries

Hi all, my first post here. I have had my Kaiser now for about 3 weeks, its going well but I have a few questions.
On my old Moto, I had a bleep that sounds every 30secs if I had a text message or missed call alert. Is there a feature like this? Its very useful.
I can't seem to find the TV or VOD in the T-zones.
Is there a quicker way of sending a text instead of doing Messaging, New, SMS etc..??
Anyone used Bluetooth Audio program to send all sound to the BT headset (like MP3s)? Handy for when I am using my mono BT headset.
Is there a program that will switch off the phone and BT overnight and back on in the morning on a sked????
My Kaiser is a UK unlocked handset all as standard.
Now just waiting for Krussel to bring a case out for it. I have e-mailed Krussel and PDA Addons but got no reply.
Thanks all for the help.
P.S Tomtom have refused to support me as they say the TyTN 2 is not a supported product.
As far as the beep on text message alert I use PhoneAlarm. It will let me set the notification time interval as well as how many times it repeats itself. I also use Kaiser Notifications by Phil_UK LED notification program to change what LED's blink for missing Texts, emails or calls.
Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328596
As far as TomTom goes, I called them and they say that they dont support any WM6 phones as the front line guys have not been updated on WM6 yet. I think they may want to get on that in all honesty.
And I have no idea what you are talking about here:
I can't seem to find the TV or VOD in the T-zones.

It was the 3G TV on T-zones and also their Video on Demand (VOD). Thanks for the other info.
Guys, regarding tomtom. They do support the Kaiser/TyTn 2. BUT, you must tell them that you have installed THEIR specially adapted tomtom version designed for the TyTn 2 and that your installation disk has their logo on it. It seems their staff have not been informed about this in many cases. However others who have been persistent have been successful. Ask the person to get their supervisor.
By the way the tomtom software and GPS is pretty straightforward and works well, so if there's a problem - report it in one of the GPS threads here and you may well get an answer.

Useful Prog: Automatically Turn up Volume when TomTom is Launched

If you are like me there are many times when you launch TomTom but you do not have any sound because your phone was on vibrate when it was launched or the volume on your phone was set too low to hear the voices. Well after some searching I came across this program on an Axim forum that will automatically turn your volume up when you launch TomTom and will turn it back to its original level when you quit TomTom. This works perfectly on my Kaiser.
Since we have internal GPS you will probably want to disable the bluetooth option in the configuration file.
You can find the thread here:
http://aximsite.com/boards/gps-talk/140969-tomtom-6-volume-override-loader.html
If you do not want to register I also attached the same file.
Wow, this is deadly intersting, thanks for your share I ll have a closer look into it
This is big news for me -- I always run my Tilt in vibration mode and I've given up with all the fuss of turning on the sound with TomTom anymore.
When TomTom is launched via the loader, I still get the 'No Sound' icon in the lower left hand corner of the map area. However, When I increase the volume (via slider wheel) the sound does indeed come on.
Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than before!
If the DATA CONNECTION is active, you will get that issue.
So, check your DATA CONNECTION before turning on TomTom.
You dont need that prog.

I just tested this and you are right. That is a strange bug but it is good to know, however I use direct push so my data connection is always active so this program is still very helpful for me. For me the whole point is to just launch Tom Tom and be good to go. Disabling my data connection each time would be a hassle.

TomTom Sound Issue

Question -- I have TomTom on my Tilt ... it installs fine, and works fine ... however each time I start it up the sound is turned off .. .and I have to touch the screen, turn on the sound twice before the change in settings "sticks" and I get the voice giving me directions.
Any thoughts how I can fix this?
Mine does the exact same thing, otherwise it works perfectly. Running XDA Live 1.1 ROM...
That is the default function. You must always activate the sound after starting.

hate to tell you guys, but it's not the default. The sound is on when I fire up Tom Tom on my Tilt, I've never had any issue nor had to go into settings to turn it on before. Are you guys using a ROM other then the original one?
Default off on both my HK Kaiser & my AT&T Tilt. Don't know what to tell you.
Solution that works for me!
I have found that all I have to do is to rotate the volume wheel on the side of my Tilt and the sound gets turned on without having to go through the preferences menu. It will repeat the last direction when you do this but it doesn't bother me too much and it lets me know that the sound is enabled.
The same issues occur with the previous version 6.03
And on other PPCs as well (eg IPAQ hw6910).
But it does not happen always, so I deduce it's related to conflicts with other softwares.
And it certainly isn't a feature, as a previous poster suggested.
TT as a default always starts with sound ON.

I didn't have this problem until about 30 minutes ago, I received the Carcomm Cradle I ordered for the car, installed it, tried out TomTom and now I have the same problem as you.
Are any of you using a Carcomm Cradle?
The only other thing I changed before the sound problem is I bought a "Veripart 3-in-1 Converter HTC ExtUSB" so I can charge the PDA and listen to music using the 3,5 mm jack port.
I also have exactly the same problem, and solve it with the volume wheel. I also had this problem on my Hermes.
TomTom 'fixes'
FWIW, not sure why, but the volume wheel never solves my problem in a predictable fashion, so I've went and found the following apps that make things easier:
TomTom Menu Builder -- Change the location of where the 'Turn on sound' or any button shows up in the menu for faster access. e.g., I've placed my 'Turn on sound' button on page 1 with 'Navigate to' and 'exit application'. The menu also allows you to enable all sorts of 'hidden' menus, with the most useful being the voice preferences menu, which lets you choose how verbose the speaker is. Alternatively, if you're not up to installing the menu builder, you could download my TomTom menu (see attached). Either way, place TomTom.mnu in \TomTom\SdkRegistry.
TomTom Starter -- Make your phone volume max and turn off all notification popups before starting TomTom. Reverses volume and notification changes after exiting TomTom. Great for when you forget that your phone is on vibrate or at a low sound setting.
BTW, its not the ROM that is the problem, it most likely has to do with TomTom. I'm using 6.03, non-taster edition.
The sound will be muted when you start TomTom with a data connection active. If you disconnect your data connection (G, 3G or H) before starting TomTom the sound should be on.....

Thanks michi123, I seem to recall reading about this in another thread. However, that's still yet another application (comm manager) and button I need to press before starting TomTom.
It's much easier for me to use the two applications I've included, as I'll need to go into the menu anyway to enter my navigation point and should I forget to turn off vibrate or crank up my volume, TomTomStarter fixes that for me...

Excellent! That works. And unless you have changed the functionality of your end button (like in the xda ROM) it is pretty quick to hold down the red end button (to close all data connections) before opening TomTom.
But it's not very effective when you're using a converged device, right?
I mean, would you turn off your phone every time you'd want to load TT, and then have to remember to turn it back on (while still inside TT)?

All holding down the end key does is cancel all active data connections .. it does not "turn off" the phone (unless you happen to be on a call). So yes, if you want to tun TT when you are on the phone, this solution will not work, but if you want to run TT when you are not actively speaking, holding down the end key first solves the sound problem. Then, you can still make and receive calls and, for that matter, you can still use data programs too, all with TT running.
Very useful thread, I've just updated mine and my G/Fs TyTns, we both have exactly the same ROM and RADIO, hers starts with Volume on, Mine starts with Volume off, the only real difference is that we're on different service providers, we both have MS ActiveSync running against our different corporate Exchange servers, and I have reduced my connectivity to GPRS to save battery. Will give the Tweaker app a go and see what happens. Sh
Alex. What version of tomtom are you running. I cannot get the menu file to work with my version 6.032(8351) no taster version.
Hi guys,
I just wanted to post on here cos I noticed some information that I didn’t agree with and also I have tested what others have said and it works so I thought I would say thankyou in one breath and bugger in another.
I have tested TomTom 6.031 SDK version on a HTC TyTN2, Glofiish, HP614c, HTC p3300 and a HTC Cruise and all of them start TomTom with the sound muted if they have a data connection active!
Sound is not muted at start-up if there is no data connection. This is great to know as I was baffled by it all but it also causes me a pain in that I need the data connection all the time, so I think its a mistake if TomTom themselves presume otherwise.
I have a XDA Orbit 2 on order but I am guessing it will be the same with that. I dont remember this issue with Windows Mobile 5, but it happens for sure on 6.
Also I have an issue with the 6.031 SDK and the unmute function call doesn’t appear to work!
Ho hum... so many devices with the same issue....
Ram
I have to admit I made a slight error in my statement above, I hadn’t tried it on the HTC p3300 and got the same result, it would appear that the HTC p3300 is the only device out of the many I have tried that doesn’t switch to silent when loading TomTom while a data connection is active.
I am trying to work out why this is as I am running the same software installation on all the devices.

Tomtom handsfree with Xperia??

Hi Guys,
BIG THANK YOU for all your hard work with helping me make the most of my X1
I am posting due to a problem i have with my Tomtom 930t. I used my tomtom as handsfree for my W960 from sonyericcson with no issues. I could get calls, text(send and recieve), wireless data, Traffic and weather all from the bluetooth connection through the phone.
Now with my Xperia i can only get calls and thats if the bluetooth stays on long enough. I cannot get texts or wireless data to recieve my weather and traffic updates when im on the road.
Is there something i can load onto the Xperia to allow this?
Thank you for your time.
Hi,
Did you try Bluemusic from Teksoft ?
I bought it two years ago but by this time it never worked on my HTC TyTN WM5, so I successfully used the Gotland patch.
I tried again Bluemusic on my new Xperia X1 and by miracle it works (probably staying two years (not used) in my computer fixed the trouble...).
BR.
Thanks ill have a search and see what i can find. However I did contact SE and they said it was an issue and would be resolved in the first update.
Well I had a search but this looks like its just for music? I am looking for Calls, Text and wireless data connection from my X1 to my Tomtom 930t.
At the mo it only supports calls
