D: You are on the PDA connect plan or the Media net plan. - I am actually on the 20 dollar media net plan PREPAID haha
And on WAP.CINGULAR I do not use a proxy and get full net access plus 3g. I went prepaid because I had heard ATT/Cingular had overbilled people that used alot of data on their phones while having a media net plan because they figured a "media net phone" couldnt use gigs of data. So people had gotten like 500 dollar bills and I wanted to avoid that so I went the prepaid route.

I am actually using my Kaiser on the iPhone data plan. I originally got an iPhone and used it for a few months until I got frustrated that it didn't support exchange. I put the SIM into my new TyTN II and it works great with no changes to my original iPhone plan. The phone says it is using MediaNET for the connection. Unfortunately we only have edge speed out here in Denver.

I did the same. The only thing is I ran into a few problems with voicemail and MMS so I called and had my plan switched back to mediamax 200 and everything works great.

Thanks... now if those of you who responded could do me another favor.
Please use this link to do a speed test on your device, http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
If you can, please use 3g and both of the wap.cingular conections, one with the proxy and one without and report your download speeds...
I used to get 550kbs-800kbs in Los Angeles, on ATT's 3g, PDA Unlimited Plan, but now I am getting 250-400. All this started after I gave them my IMEI number and the idiots in Customer Care told me that my phone is unrecognized and that It is not 3g capable... well, 5 hours later, I now have the direct number to ANS and they have created a ticket for me and are actually trying to help...
I am asking you all to give me the speeds, so that I may be able to find out if it is my account only, or if ATT has been corking the 3g conection here in LA..
Thanks
JB

I doubt you'll get much good data, since your throughput can be affected by so many environmental variables. Like the type of browser you're using. PIE report 167Kbps for me (I'm just outside Long Beach, CA), Opera reports between 800Kbps to 1.1Mbps.
But I have an unlocked TyTN II on AT&T and using the default config that the SIM sets up, those are the speeds I'm getting.

When I use PIE and opera I get the same speeds... Environment and other variables affect me less then the fact that ATT's network speeds when put on a graph look like spike city... It almost looks like the connection can run faster but is corked after 300kbits are sent...
Please continue checking...
JB

in PIE I got 385k, with Opera-Mini I got 1,542kbit/sec 0.44s latency. That was with the max 1MB file size. In Corona Del Mar

iPhone plan using wap.cingular, getting 1510 kb/sec with .32s latency, 5.744 d/l time, max 1mb file, San Diego on Opera.
Same other variables but switched to isp.cingular, getting 2013kb/sec, .343s latency, 5.398s d/l time.
I couldn't test PIE because apparently java needs to be installed. Go figure, since Opera's running fine.

Yes to all.
I have PDA Connect unlimited.
I'm getting 1520kb/s using opera.
FYI: I've seen 2.2 using 2wire.com not sure if it's reliable though

When you gave at&t your IMEI#, the Kasier comes up as unknown in the at&t provisioning system. By default it is set to GSM device and not UMTS. This has been discussed in the at&t/Cingular forum.
BillMNJ wrote:
I spent almost an hour on with AT&T's data support and the guy said the reason was the failure of my devices IMEI# to register the devices hardware. There seems to be no hardware profile for the TyTnII ansd therefore it comes up as an "unknown device" in their provisioning system. I confirmed this on my visit to the store this afternoon as the rep there showed me the screen and sure enough, it comes up as unknown, and the setting for this selection is GSM, not UMTS which all of their 3G phones are set to. He said, your device "does not exist" in a valid profile as a UMTS device and therefore will never be able to see a 3G signal even if I was sitting under a 3G tower... He showed me his phone which is 3G capable and id did indeed have UMTS and a valid hardware profile.

Any way to get WAP access via AT&T on the Kaiser?

I just switched to AT&T from T-Mobile (using an MDA) so I could get the Kaiser/Tilt at a great price.
Back with T-Mobile I used to pay for the T-Zones account for $5.99 a month and I would be able to get (albeit slow) internet access using that plan. Since I am usualy in an area with WiFi that worked out fine for me in the few instances when I needed the net while WiFi wasnt available.
AT&T though seems to only have data plans starting at $29.99 and up for the Tilt.
Does AT&T offer a similar WAP plan for another phone that I could put onto my plan and access the net the same way I used to with my MDA on T-Mobile?
with the right sales person, and the right person saying the right things, you can get 3g speeds for 19.99/month.
I think I just saw that plan on their site, the Cellular Connect Unlimited w/ Mail, meant for normal phone's not PDA's.
Guess I'll have to look into that option. Thanks.

HSDPA Connectivity options in UK

Hi there,
I've had a quick look around the forums and see posts which are in other countries - so I wanted to ask in a new thread.
I'm in the UK and considering getting a TyTN2 (currently on an Xda Orbit).
I have some questions which im having a little trouble in finding definitive answers to -
1. Is it possible to use the TyTN2 as a 'modem'? i.e connect to the Internet at high speed and 'relay' the information to my laptop? if so, would that mean connecting the laptop and the TyTN2 via a cable? wifi? bluetooth?
2. If the above can be done wirelessly, is it then possible to share on 2 laptops? (I have a main Dell XPS M1710 and a XPS M1330 for more portable needs)
3. I'm currently with O2 for my voice calls. I can get another providers service and was looking at the 3 network for it's nice pricing, however it looks like I have to connect using their specific modem. Is it possible to connect to 3's network using the TyTN2?
4. The other operators Vodafone, Orange T mobile etc - would it be a case of sgning up to an airtime deal and popping the SIM card into the TyTN2, syncing to my laptop and away I go ?
I live around the West London, Heathrow area and am here 99% of my time - I understand full speed HSDPA won't be available all the time when travelling away and could be at much reduced speeds etc - at that point, what is 'surfing' on the screen like on the TyTN2? I find browsing on the Orbit using wifi a bit of a strain on that small screen, any better on the TyTN2? I 'doubt' it really and thats why Iwant to use my laptops screen(s)
Apologies if this is covered in other posts, I could only find sporadic info and from other countries etc
Any ideas and responses well appreciated !
cheers, Dennis Cooper!

You can use TyTN II as modem, but it's not exactly a *modem* - it uses network sharing application instead. Basically the idea is that TyTN becomes something like 'access point', which acts as a gateway to the internet for your computer. Connectivity options are USB cable and Bluetooth. I use both of them without much hassle, but I don't know how to do it in Windows world (I'm a Linux-boy

I don't think so. Unless you'll manage to set up whole thing like that:
TyTN II --> internet sharing --> XPS M1710 --> internet sharing --> XPS M1330
But I never tried such configuration.

Yes, it is possible. They have recently introduced their Mobile Broadband offer (£10 / 1GB / month) into pay as you go, so you don't have to buy separate modem. Just get their payg SIM card, put it into Kaiser, activate Mobile Broadband add-on, get connection settings from their website, and use Internet Sharing app, as mentioned above. Should work.
4. The other operators Vodafone, Orange T mobile etc - would it be a case of sgning up to an airtime deal and popping the SIM card into the TyTN2, syncing to my laptop and away I go ?

I only know how it works for T-Mobile. They have £1 per day internet access offer on pay as you go. However, there are some catches:
1) T&C don't allow to use it modems for computers (such as Kaiser and your laptops), BUT practically it works without any problems.
2) There is 40 MB daily limit, which is not 'fixed' - meaning that if you exceed it, you will be still able to use the service - but T-Mobile will have an eye on you, and will have right to cancel your card straight away if you'll keep exceeding it too often.
3) Their payg SIM cards are NOT allowed to use HSDPA service, meaning mere 384 kbps, without any chance to upgrade it - even if you are within HSDPA coverage.
So, basically - if you're light user, T-Mobile pay as you go option should be OK for you, but when you plan to use internet on the go more often - Three's Mobile Broadband should be a better deal for you.
Of course, you also have option to sign up for contract, for example T-Mobile's Flext + web'n'walk, which would give you both voice minutes, as well as internet access on the go, but it's up to you.

I'm not sure what is HSDPA coverage by O2, but I'm on T-Mobile, and they basically have HSDPA deployed all around London already, with some sites upgraded to 3.6 Mbps speed.
When it comes to surfing on the screen, I recommend using Opera Mini 4. It's waaay better tha Pocket IE, and it's also much faster. It gives really great browsing experience in your pocket!
eva_d,
I am considering the tytn ii with the Flext 25 + web'n'walk from t-mobile, with it being 1gb a month unlimited internet access and my phone hsdpa compatible, does this price plan allow me to use hsdpa in london where i work rather than GPRS in a 3G covereage area?

Yes, it allows HSDPA use.
I would check with t-mobile about the hsdpa theres a few posts about saying that t-mobile pulled hsdpa from the basic web and walk after mid october last year and made it availble to web and walk plus and the next higher tarrif. im on the £35 flext and web and walk basic and get hsdpa but i signed up in april last year. basically double check with t-mobile that you will get hsdpa on the w+w basic before you take out the contract.

This is true, and was told the same by the cust service rep on the phone. However i added the basic £7.50 W&W, and after enabling HSDPA in Kaisertweak, am getting recieving it anyway!
i just sent a message to tmobile and one of their customer represensatives called me up and say if i'm in a 3g area it will be running on HSDPA even on the flext 25 and web and walk.
however they say to take note on the 1gb cap per month data fair usage policy.
if that's the case, i think i'd sign on for the contract within the next few days together with the vario III
however i have an offer for an iphone for 300 quid contract free.... so i am abit of a fix of which one to go for...

I also have basic WnW package (£7.50/month), and I do get HSDPA, but I've started my contract in 2006. However, explanation for not giving HSDPA access in basic WnW seems to be fair and reasonable (although not necessarily loved by users) - as that basic package is designed to give internet connectivity directly from mobile phone, which would not be used as modem for computers. In such case, 384kbps (non-HSDPA) speed seems reasonable for use in phone only. When it comes to use it from computer, then it's low - but then you also need to get WnW Plus or Max packages...
I am going to upgrade do WnW Plus pretty soon, anyway. It's only £5 more per month, but allows legally use my Kaiser as modem, and also gives me full T-Mobile's WiFi hotspots access across UK.

for those on tmobile USA plz help!

hey guys, i was using an unlocked tilt on tmobile with no probs until the 5.99 tzones plan stopped working. i then proceeded to take that plan off and added the 19.99 total internet plan. ever since then i cant connect to the internet! at first i thought there was something wrong with my account, however one of my friends has an mda with the same plan as me. so i took out my sim card and put it in his mda and put his sim card in my tilt. now the internet on his phone (with my sim card) works and the internet on my tilt (with his sim card) doesnt work! we have the same exact settings, so i dont know whats going on??!! i was thinking it was somehow incompatible with my radio; and so far i've tried 1.27.12.11 and 1.27.12.17, and both dont work.. i'm currently using dutty's #7 nontouchflo rom... thanks for any help!

Omar, are you in South Florida? If so read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366634&page=2
Even if not, T-mo is testing 3G in other areas so it may still apply.

the t-zone internet uses wap. if you look at your current internet connection modem it probably says wap.voicestream.com. the total internet package uses internet2.voicestream.com

wap.voicestream.com and internet2.voicestream.com - I am convinced they are virtually the same thing.
My total internet works either way on each phone I have.

AT&T Data Plan Differences

I just bought a Tilt and am upgrading from a Nokia 6555. My current plan with AT&T does not include data. Obviously, to use the Tilt I will need to add data to my account. My question is this: What is the difference between the $30 "Messaging & Data Unlimited" plan and the $15 "Data Unlimited" plan? On the AT&T website, it says the $15 plan does not work with PDAs/Smartphones. If I throw the sim card into my Tilt from my Nokia phone will the $15 plan work? Is AT&T sent any information about what phone is accessing their network?
Thanks in advance.

One plan gives you unlimited data and I believe a restricted amount of Texts ( 200? ). And the other plan is just data and no texts included. AT$T cannot tell which phone the sim is used in , but they do keep track of data usage, and if they suspect that you are using a pda, due to more than normal data usage, they will consider that a violation of your usage agreement and can cancel your account and charge you the full price of the TilT ( $400 )

Denco, actually you are partly mistaken.
ATT Can tell what phone you are using by its IMEI. When you add the data plan to the device, toss the sim card into your older nokia so it registers as a nokia on their network. ATT Will hassle you to put on a PDA plan and wont allow you to add a medianet package.
ALSO.......
The PDA plans allow a connection to a different APN ( ISP.CINGULAR vs WAP.CINGULAR) which means less traffic and less bottleneck from other mobile users ( Iphones and the likes ). Now i cant prove with 100% certainty that ISP.CINGULAR is always faster, but I can tell you that I DO notice a difference in latency times and tend to always have a decent connection rate.
This might also vary though by your location.
One more thing. This topic has been discussed to death. Use the Search button
True, but AT$T doesn't keep a database of imei's. They have the ability to check, but unless the imei is added to a stolen phone database, they don't check every imei as it connects to the network. They do however check the imsi , to make sure you are a subscrber to the network and that is stored on the sim card.

They will check it when he goes to add the plan . . .
When I go on-line to my acount summery. there is a picture of each phone next to the phone number. If I swap sims around the pictures change. I pretty sure AT&T does know.
This is a touchy subject as there are a several lawsuits in place for att
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406588. There are several suits in play from Att forcing an upgrade charge when finding you're using a pda even though unlimited data usage worked just fine with non pda devices

Which is the best US provider to use with the imported Diamond2?

Hey guys,
I was wondering, which one of the different US providers would you recommend to use with an imported unlocked diamond2?
I'm currently with AT&T, and I'm having a lot of issues to connect to MediaNet... For some unknown reason, the phone looses its connection:
- every single time after either a reboot or using wifi
- on time to time, randomly without any specific reason
My main concern being: it's a pain to get it back! It takes several reboot and retry to re-setup the data connection.
I was wondering if some of you have actually experience better result with other provider or even with AT&T... (note: i m on a pay-as-you-go plan for phone and data)
Thanks,
Kandjar
I, too, am using Diamond2 with ATT and I'm ok with it. Granted, I've given up trying to use MediaNet on this phone but not really missing it.
I'm on T-mobile with the $5.99 unlimited data (T-Mobile Web). It's now $9.99 Web2Go if you are starting a new contract with limited data. Everything is working fine and the other day I got my email working on the diamond2 through the $5.99 plan.
No connection problems at all.
Same here with T-Mobile and the T-Zones plan, my call quality is pretty good with no drops & edge has descent speeds.
Wow, ok, once my pay-as-you-go expired, I'll definitively check T-Mobile!
AT&T data plan is slow and not very stable for me...
The main reason I need it is: mails!
I got so addicted to the 'read mail everywhere' plan, it's scary... When it doesn't work, it's bugging the heck out of me
I found in the 'phone setting' that it's possible to change the baseband; so instead of having them set to 'auto', I'm trying to force them to be:
'gsm' and '1900+850' to see if there is any improvements.
In any case T-Mobile does sound a lot cheaper...
I m currently paying $100 for 400 minutes (good for a year) and $20/month for 100MB... That's about $30/months.
Thanks for the replies

Edge on T-mo has really good speeds here in CO. That's why I don't mind not having 3G. Soon enough manufacturers will be making quadband 3g handsets. I hope.
Any who kandjar if you need help with the data settings if and when you switch to T-mo just post up. If you search google for T-mobile wireless configurator you can get the settings by selecting any WinMo phone in the list ut you have to change some things.
Edit*
Disregard that last part about the configurator. The D2 finds the settings automagically for you. But you still have to change 1 or 2 things so it'll work.
That's cool, thanks!
By the way: does the youtube app work with T-Mobile?
It doesn't seem to work at all with AT&T...
Or does it only work with 3g?

Youtube worked on my Diamond2 with ATT. I don't have a data package with ATT, but I have wifi in my complex and I can watch Youtube on the Wifi.
As well as sending/receiving emails.
True, I should have been a bit more explicit..
I also managed to get it to work through wifi...
I m just wondering if this work with data plan (through medianet ...)

Yes it works fine on T-mobile edge. Maybe AT&T edge is a bit slow? IDK? This is on T-zones might I add. Not T-mobiles full web service. Who needs that with opera available?
