I have searched through this forum, some say the AT&T branded Kaiser (Tilt) does have TouchFlo, others say it doesn't. My Tilt definitely DOES NOT have it. Is there anyone out there with an AT&T TILT and does have the touchflo straight out of the box? Is there a way for me to add it since it currently isn't there on mine? Thanks!

TouchFlo = Finger Scroll *NOT* the Cube interface.
Start --> Settings --> System --> TouchFlo (to enable and disable sound)
Posted by jomo25:
The way TouchFLO works is this:
- use a finger (not your fingernail) to "drag" the screen up/down (or even left/right if the page is wider than the screen). The page should drag with your finger. It's semi-smooth. Not truly smooth, but smooth enough. When you drag, DON'T lift your finger from the screen till you've got it positioned to your desired spot.
OR
- If you use your finger (not your fingernail) to swipe up or down AND LIFT your finger fromthe screen as you do it, then the screen with scroll by itself to the end in that direction or until you tap the screen again to stop it.
OR
- if you use the stylus or your fingernail, then it will NOT scroll like above. It will then behave like a normal stylus control (highlites and selects instead of scrolling).
So, the screen reads a broad touch (like your finger) differently than a narrow/pinpoint touch (like your nail or stylus).

Thanks for the additional info. I have seen that post before on this forum though and it is more of an explanation of what touchflo is. I am aware of the difference between the cube touchflo and the finger scroll touchflo. My Tilt has neither. When I go to Start->Settings->System there in nothing in there for touchflo. So my questions still remain, with a slight adjustment...
Is there anyone out there with an AT&T TILT and does have the *finger-scroll* touchflo straight out of the box? Is there a way for me to add it since it currently isn't there on mine? Thanks!
I have no touch-flo icon either in my System folder.

/agree
mine is in the mail and I thought it had the touch flow
I am sure someone will have a fix for it soon enough
I have a Tilt's and so do my two coworkers and they all have touchflo out of the box. Did you soft reset the phone before the customization was completed?
no biggie at all....most will flash to htc rom......and it definately does have the touchflo in the settings...i have a tilt and am using touchflo
The Tilt Does Have Touchflo
The Tilt owners above are correct in that in Start\Settings\System, there is no Touchflo Icon. This however does not mean the device does not have touchflo, because indeed it does. If anyone finds where this icon exists or how we can add a shortcut, please let us all know.
It took a bit of reading for me to understand how to use touchflo and the first post above is a great tutorial.
For me, it took more finger pressure on the screen than I expected to make touchflo work and that may be confusing people as well as the lack of an icon to manage the settings.
To demonstrate to yourself, open an application that is scrollable, like messaging, or IE. Use more pressure than you would expect on the screen and move your finger up, down or sideways in a long flicking motion and you will see touchflo working. Perform the touch again to stop technique or the touch and drag and you will find it works great on the Tilt
Good Luck and enjoy touchflo!
It is supposed to have the "finger scroll TouchFLO" out of the box on the Tilts as MardiG says. if it does not, then your phone's software is not complete. Even if you don't have the "Control Panel" setting, the functioanlity is supposed to be there. I'd get another one if ti doesn't. Or hard reset and let the software customization run again.
thanks for all the posts! very helpful!! i tested and touchflo is definitely not working on mine. i tried the hard reset but that didn't help. i guess i'll have to take this one back to the store and hope they have some left in stock. Thanks again!!

my tilt has touchflo - no settings in Settings->System however.
have to modify via registry
Same here ... I have Touchflo but nothing in Settings. The best way to see if you have it is to open Contacts. If you have more than a page or two of Contacts you will be able to tell if your Touchflo is active or not.
Open Contacts and drag you finger from the bottom to the top of the screen ... as if you dragging the bottom toward the top. You should definitely see the scrolling of the Contacts is it's working.
I did a soft-reset during the AT&T customization so that none of the bloatware would be on the Tilt.
TouchFlo is actually working - even though I don't have an icon in the System Settings.
Open up an IE page that would normally need scrolling up/down, and follow the instructions on how to actually use TouchFlo on the first page of this thread - I think it is Post # 2.
I tested mine using the instructions and it works - just have to get used to it (and NO it doesn't work as well as that "other" phone).

I did and it still had touchflo, just no control panel for it. I'm on the HTC rom now and it has the control panel.

But it still has it I'm willing to bet, unless you got some messed up ROM on yours. Try the scrolling in IE and see if it works.
I have used both models and the finger scrolling works on the Tilt. The Kaiser settings have only one checkbox and it is to turn the "clicking" sound on or off. The default is on for the Tilt, and my guess is you will need to tweak the registry to get it turned off.
there's tweak app in the sticky which can set sensitivity of touch flo
TouchFlo not on my Tilt
I just searched my Tilt for TouchFlo files with Total Commander.
No files found.
there are no files but it is there, I did the same thing when I thought mine wasn't working. What I realized is it will not work with Opera mini, I am assuming in won't work in any java app. Goto espn.com in PIE and then try it there, it is a big page so there is plenty to scroll.
No settings area on my Tilt, but TouchFlo works
Ah Ha, ok.... i do have it.... just need to scrool towards the top when i want the list to scroll!!!

I may be being totally daft, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the interface that has the supposed TouchFlo features. The contact app seems to be just the regular WM6 one.
Can someone please give me an example of where the TouchFlo features are used on the Kaiser?
It's pretty subtle, if you are in a long document, say contacts, you can touch the screen downward in a sweeping motion and the contacts should scroll down continuously. You should hear clicking like a roulette wheel, slowing down till it stops. (You can disable that sound). This works vertical and horizontal (if there is reason to scroll).
It's pretty subtle. Some have complained that it doesn't work well with IE and have loaded Opera-Mini to get that functionality to work better. I've tried both and they seem to work OK for me.
It's not very well implemented.
This is the difference between actually creating something useful and adding a feature just to have it on a checklist ("can scroll using flick like iphone") !
Thanks for the replies, I finally get it. It's pretty lame as-is, I really hope someone will manage to extend the functionality in a custom rom in the future.

It is not that lame, in my opinion. actually, it is rather more useful than the whole cube-thing implemented on the Touch. ie, if your in the car and try to get to a certain contact or scroll a word doc, it is a lot easier to just touch the screen with your finger rather than use the stylus to scroll using the scroll bars.
i like this feature and i dont consider it as a just-to-be-there feature.
I'm pretty sure my palm pda/phone from 5 years ago had Touch Flo

Improved Usability
Drag the stylus anywhere on screen to scroll a web page. Increase viewable content on the screen with the small font option. Get essential starting tips through the Help menu.
Isn't that what TouchFlo does ?

imagine a piece of paper that you could only see though a small hole (screensize). if you pressed your finger down on the paper, and slide it toward you (down), the text on that paper would appear to scroll up, and vice versa...
by the time someone finds the reg tweak, we'll all probably be used to it...

Yeah i know what your saying...But to me it just seems wrong which is why i pretty much don't use it.....Im pretty much used to now scrolling using the scroll bar.
and to me it would be much more useful if it was the other way.

You want it to act like the scroll bar, basically.
TouchFlo=Iphone WannaBe Marketing Trick
Someone else said earlier and they were dead on: all these top of the line pocket pc /cell phone makers got blind sided by Apple's touch screen, which basically makes the Iphone.
So a smart alec at HTC said "let's whip out a touch flo phone, out comes the HTC Touch, and now let's plaster touch technology everywhere on each model as a marketing gimmick to keep up with the Jones' "
I mean 1 million Iphones sold since June 29th as of today...what choice did they have?
The reslut: Touch Flo technology a la cheap, not using the right screen (Iphone screens cost up the wazoo and are made by Balda of Germany) and is basically no different than the D pad...so NO, HTC phones do not have ANY touch tech. yet.

Well if you are driving, you shouldn't be using your phone, either with stylus or finger.

For me it is. especially if it is in internet explorer, where the scroll wheel jumps from link to link, while the touchflo scrolls pages. i know we can modify the scroll wheel behaviour to scroll pages as well, but as it came from the factory this is the behaviour.
plus, if u are driving, it is easier to just touch the display once rather than keep your finger pressed on the d-button or on the wheel.

well, excuse me, mr. officer..
i love the touchflo...works just like the iphone especially when working with large spreadsheets.
I love the touchflo as well. VueFlo sux compared to TouchFlo
Perhaps this belongs in the "Unresolved Issues" thread.. I'm unsure.
I'm using a Tilt on the Stock shipped Rom.
When using Touchflo normally - i.e. Sliding my finger finger up or down, the menu pops up as if I had tapped and held the stylus. Very annoying. Does anyone else experience this issue on the Tilt? Also, the stylus operates Touchflo as well.
From what i remember using Touchflo on my wizard, the PPC could distinguish the difference between the Stylus, and my Finger. Why can't the Tilt recognize the difference?
Can a regedit be done to fix this?
None of it can differentiate between stylus & finger. All TFlo looks for is a delay to tell between Tap & Gesture. You may want to adjust your gesture recognition delay or just don't gesture all the way to the top. You don't need to. All you really need to do is transition from area 1 to area 2 within the specified gesture delay period.
Well, the reason i say it could differentiate was because:
Lets assume im browsing a word document, or the PIE: if I slid the stylus up the screen, it would select text, if i slid my finger accross the screen, it would Scroll.
I will alsom note that selcting text is VERY hard. i have to tap the stylus and hold it for a second or so before sliding, otherwise text will not be selected.

Sometimes, mine will do this if I hold to long. Typically, the problem I have with TouchFlo, is that it thinks I want to highlight... everything. So rather than scrolling, it highlights the page. Very annoying. It seems to like scrolling with the stylus more so than using your fingers.
Furthermore, I have just noticed that because the Kaiser fails to recognize the difference between the stylus, and a finger press, the transcriber App will not work.
Can someone attempt to use transcriber on their stock ATT rom to reproduce this problem? -please post your findings.
I specifically remember that the wizard was able to distinguish the stylus from a finger press.

Ok, so I have disababled the TFlo scrolller, so I thought, by changing the EnableScroll registry setting to 0. However, the scroll is still working. I have PiePlus 2.2 installed, could that be the problem?
FTouch was the culprit. How do I unisntall FTouch ?
Took the link outta the startup folder, rebooted, and then deleted the folder containing fTouch from the Program Files folder.
I came across this thread because I was having the same problem as the O.P. and was not able to find a solution for it (that is why I am posting in such an old thread so that I can share my experience). I am using Dutty's new Diamond Rom (from June 7th, 2008). Previously I used Duttys_WM6.1_Official_5.2.19209_1_58_16_27__FIX_ and never had the problem with that ROM...I only started having it after the update.
To fix the problem I used AdvancedConfig (or you can use KaiserTweak) to disable TouchFlo scrolling. After disabling it, do a soft reset. Then install FTouchFlo and FTouchFloConfig. Since doing that navigating in PIE and contacts is as smooth as it was in my previous ROM
OK gents, I've been doing a lot of reading and searching but have not found any resolution for the issues I'm currently expreriencing......
1. Bring up the cube
2. rotate to side with favorite contacts
3. touch the filter button on the bottom (third from left)
4. Pocket CM loads and pulls up all contacts
5. Close Pocket CM
6. Bring up the cube...but it brings up a speed dial, pocket cm screen (?) I think that's what it is....looks similar to the favorites side of the cube
At this point the touch functionality becomes unresponsive and the tilt is somewhat unresponsive, sometimes the top bar does not come back
7. Press end key to close this screen
8. Soft reset required to get back to 100%
My setup...Dutty's 6.1 Rom - Touchflo - PocketCM V.19
Pocket CM has an exclusion in the touchflo-cube setup
Think that about covers it...I really want to be able to use PocketCM so any help would be appreciated.
Heh, just did some searching on google for my problem and got excited when I saw the first search result, then I realized I found my own post!
Anywho, checked the PocketCM forum and there is one user there with the same issue but no one has responded to him as of yet....
oh well, more searching awaits........
Try adding PocketCM to your TouchFlo exceptions.
tis already in the list.
Tried to remove it and then add it back as an exclusion. No dice.
Looks like the PocketCm app starts to hang after I try to close it (after being opened through the cube)
Anybody?
I certainly can just not use that button, but it seems like there's a couple of other issues with pocketcm that i can't put my finger on yet.
Hi everyone. I have the HTC Touch Pro and I was wondering if there is a way to let the scroll wheel acts like the one on ipods in order to navigate through the songs instead of finger scrolling. It would be easier and quicker I think.

Now Now... we may aswell be nice on this forum... we have members of varying abilities... Remember everyone is special.
Just search for Diamond Tweak... copy the cab to your memory card. double click to install it your device - I suggest you install it on your memory card to save memory on the device itself...
Reset and open the new program (which should be found in your "programs page" near the end of the list you will find the option to set the wheel to scroll.
I hope this helps.

thanks man,
i think i was kind of mislead by the previous thread.
the subject was ask about how obtain more function for the scroll wheel and the answer follow seems to be suggesting the tweak.
infact the diamond tweak is much more powerful then just to enhance the scroll function. the other functions was quiet useful indeed.
wish everyone like it as i do.

check out advanced config...open it, go to menu>more settings>smart touch. from there you can add any easily add any active program to enable usage of the smart touch/scroll wheel or see if its listed in the predefined programs. you can also adjust the sensitivity of the scroll wheel here..

Just had it working in diamond tweak, I exited and tried it in file explorer, no luck so I went back to diamond tweak and its not working for that no either. wtf
I encountered a problem with my HTC Tilt today. I was playing around deciding if I like it more with or without touchflo running, and later in the day I installed that Task Manager 3.1 program (which seems very handy BTW) and that is when I noticed that when I am in the "programs" or "settings" windows, the way to scroll by dragging the screen has changed. Before, I would just click anywhere and drag with the stylus and it would scroll. Now, I have to like tap and drag it, and it'll continue scrolling non-stop until I tap on the screen again. The same thing happens in internet explorer. Other programs such as Opera browser is unaffected.
The interesting thing is that drag-scrolling with my finger has improved dramatically, and works great, but not with the stylus.
Can anyone help me get it back to the way it was before?
I'm a bit noobie to these gadgets, but I'll catch on.
edit: the scrolling with the stylus works fine if you drag the scroll bar.
This phone is awesome, but the one complaint I do have is that the phone speaker volume isn't very loud... it needs more ooomph.

i'm not certain if the installation of Task Manager 3.1 would have had adverse affects on the way that drag scrolling works...
for starters, you should know that some applications like opera mobile 8.65 and opera mobile 9.5 betas as well as resco explorer and lots more applications implement THEIR OWN drag scrolling logic.
next, you should know that HTC's touchflo, from the day it was introduced (with the HTC Touch) all the way up to the latest incarnations of TF2D (manila2d) and TF3D, is capable of "hooking" in to the Windows Mobile interface elements (scroll areas, etc) to provide drag scrolling behavior. however, it is nowhere near as good as the custom drag scrolling logic implemented in the applications mentioned in the previous paragraph.
finally, you should know that if you have TF2D (manila2d), there are TWO ways to get to your Programs window. Start->Programs will launch the Windows Mobile native program browser (where the cumbersome "hooked" touchflo behavior works) while launching the Programs listing by pressing the "All Programs" softkey from the Programs Tab will launch a custom program browser that looks and feels EXACTLY like the native Windows Mobile program browser. In the latter case, you will notice much much better drag scrolling.
i think the HTC uses the same approach as mentioned above for the Settings window.
make sure you are not getting confused by the above mentioned differences in your debugging and assessments.
another thing to check would be whether or not you altered the touchflo sensitivity parameters (try KaiserTweak to mess with those settings).
