I am using Balckberry connect to get my company e-mail and they pushed a policy out to automatically lock my device if unused for 30 minutes. It will not allow me to turn it off in the Blacberry security icon. It is greyed out. Is there a way to disable this lock from happening? Thanks! you guys rock!
Wondering the same thing....
I want to use the WM6 lock instead.
Corporate lock
I handle email for a fortune 100 company. I do blackberry and WM. There is no way to disable this once the policy is set. You can wipe the device which will of course remove the policy but you have no email. This is true in both cases. Only your blackberry or WM admin "could" disable the policy for you as a person.
Thru another post I have discovered that you can override the "lock" by stopping the "BlackBerrySecurity" services. However if you disable the service BB Connect will not startup. So you are forced to let it load after a soft-reset and then stop service and you will need to repeat this after each soft-reset.
Can someone post how to actually stop the BlackberrySecurity service?
Thanks!

It CAN be done.
1. install MemMaid and run it.
2. click on the Icon that looks like on old windows symbol with an arrow in front of it
3. along the top click on the down arrow next to 'Startup items'
4. select 'Startup Services'
5. select BlackBerrySecurity and press the Stop button
6. close MemMaid
7. NEVER tell anyone from your IT dept!
You need to complete this after every soft reset.
OK, Cool. Did that. Now can't seem to get the WM6 lock working. Settings, Personal, Lock is not responsive. My goal was to still be able to lock the device, but have the touch friendly pin entry of WM6 instead of the crappy blackberry version. Is this possible?
Phone dies....
I have been using BlackBerry Connect on my HTC Kaiser for quite a while now. It took a bit of time to get it set up initially and then again when I installed a new ROM and had to reinstall it. Anyway after these initial gremlins it has worked perfectly.
However..... A couple of days ago I switched on my phone (from sleep) and was presented with a screen telling me I must set a password - this was the BlackBerry Security Lock that has somehow been enforced (no idea why this wasn't pushed down previously?). Anyway I set the password as there was no other option (eventually as the password had to be of a certain complexity). This is a big PITA as I use TomTom Navigator and every 60-minutes (maximum delay that can be set) I am presented with this annoying Unlock screen. After a bit of searching I found the 'hack' on here to disable the BlackBerry Secruity Service and initially I thought this solved the issue (or at least bypassed it).
The last 2-days however I have been stuck with a dead phone when it has been 'asleep' in my pocket - the top left LED flashes to indicate the GSM radio is working but I cannot switch the phone on nor does it ring or do anything else when a call is received. If I connect it to my PC Or a charger the GSM LED lights to indicate it is charging but it won't switch on. The only option is to hit the reset button. I can only think the reason for this is the BlackBerry Security Service is stopped and the 60-minutes have elapsed? I am not sure though, but before this policy was enforced I never had this problem.
I am loathed to call the IT dept as they don't officially support BlackBerry Connect (I have a brand new BlackBerry Pearl in a box unopened...). Is there anyway to reset the security policy but leave the BlackBerry Security service running? Or any other way to restore the previous behaviour? Having a phone that doesn't ring sort of defeats the object of the whole thing doesn't it?

First impessions, coming from a Symbian S60 user (E70, N95, then E50 most recently (today)).
Negative:
Phone loses connection with the carrier, during calls, then reports "No Service" on the home screen. This is with Orange UK.
I don't seem to be able to alter the contact display from Lastname,Firstname to Firstname,Lastname.
I don't seem to be able to specify exactly what "Peak times" means for Exchange ActiveSync.
I don't seem to be able to adjust the brightness of the screen, to save battery life.
The screen is crooked (it's not straight!).
No preview of new emails on the home screen. Just a number telling me there are some waiting to be read. I have to click buttons to see a new email, which I don't have to do on S60 w/active standby.
Positive:
The UI is very fast compared to my E50, which was a dog.
Screen is bigger and brighter
It's fast (I already said that..)
It does 3G, obviously, when it's not showing No Service. Orange haven't rolled out HSDPA properly here yet
and on that bombshell, this phone is for sale. To be replaced by a Nokia E65.
Any takers? - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=121290
Hi,
just a few comments...
Negative:
Phone loses connection with the carrier, during calls, then reports "No Service" on the home screen. This is with Orange UK.
I would say this is BECAUSE of Orange UK
I don't seem to be able to alter the contact display from Lastname,Firstname to Firstname,Lastname.
I am not sure if this works with the breeze but there is a hack for the Universal available to solve this
I don't seem to be able to specify exactly what "Peak times" means for Exchange ActiveSync.
Not sure what you mean
I don't seem to be able to adjust the brightness of the screen, to save battery life.
Using another operator would prevent switching from GPRS to 3G (and back) because of bad network connection, this saves more power

I just tried the Nokia E90 with active standby for a week and turned back to the Breeze. Even you see a part of the mail already you have to do something to read the whole mail or not??

The screen being crooked is prob. just a production glitch - mine is fine.
As for contacts showing wrong - not a problem here, I don't remmeber how but I either reverted them in outlook or by editing the contact to switch them back around.

Simple. In ActiveSync's Server settings (on the Breeze, not the PC), there is a sync schedule. I currently have that set to "As items arrive" under the "Peak times" section. Well, I want to define Peak as being 8am to 6pm, or 9am to 5:30pm, for example

The screen has been fitted at an angle. It is not straight. Bad quality-control at the manufacturing site.

Yes, you can. In Active Sync go to Menu->Schedule->Menu->Peak Times. There you can define Peak days, Peak start time and Peak end time.

I'm not trolling (honest guv! ) but I thought I'd give this Windows Mobile stuff a go, and the MTeoR seemed like the best idea because I wanted a candybar like my E50 but with 3G. HSDPA via firmware upgrade was a major bonus.
I did the firmware upgrade and discovered Orange UK don't have HSDPA much around this country anyway
I quickly realised that Windows Mobile just isn't quite right at all. It doesn't look or feel quite right whatsoever. It doesn't feel like a phone. It feels like a PDA running a phone application which works 80% properly.
I bought an E65 yesterday and I'm bloody loving it. I have TruPhone installed now and over my WiFi in the house I'm getting free UK landline calls, and reasonable calls to everywhere else in the world.
TomTom6 works.
I have an awesome calculator called Calcium.
Standby screen shows everything I want it to.
It just works.
The UI and behaviour has all the requirements for customisability you could want, although I admit it takes some time to figure out where everything is, with seemingly related options being in different areas/menus.
So, this MTeoR is still for sale and is in fabulous condition with HSDPA firmware on it and still under HTC Europe warranty. Any takers?
Let me ask you a question? which one do you do more often with your phone:
1. Read your email preview on your phone home screen to decide which email to read/pass
2. Make a call with your phone
With a Symbian S60 phone:
1. Just move cursor to email view
2. Example dial steve:
in Symbian you press Contact/Find, hit '7' 4 times, follow by '8', '3' 2 times, '8' 3 times and finally '3' 2 times before finally hit the Green button. Total= 1 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 14 times keypress to call Steve
With MTeoR:
1. Move Cursor to message and with one press you can see the Inbox list.
2. To dial Steve, you press '7', '8', '3', '8', '3' and finally Green button. Total 6 times keypress
The point I'm trying to make is that you need to familiarize yourself with the new OS before you can start appreciating its strength.
There are so many plugins that can be used to customize the Home Screen. Go to Juni site to get a preview of what you can actually do to the home screen.
http://www.kolumbus.fi/anders.ruohio/sp.html
Cheers!
Basically what you're saying is that there's no Predictive Text on the Contact List in Symbian. Fair enough. I see what you're saying.
I tried one of those homescreen plugin things.. Festi-something, or something which sounded like that.
It did all sorts, but no email on the front
Another thing.. I tried to dial my credit card company last night from the MTeoR.
I tapped in (very quickly):
08000288990
and what came on the phone was something like:
8288990
Perhaps it was up to something in the background.. I guess I'd have to go (hmm) start -> settings -> memory -> running applications -> stop applications
to stop them eh?
Just hold down main menu on Symbian.
OK OK I'm only joking, just winding you up. I already know there are good third-party task manager applications available. I've had plenty of PocketPCs before. Never got on with them one bit. Except, oddly enough, a Palm Tungsten.
I guess that's it. I just seem to dislike the feel of Windows Mobile. It's basically still in the Windows 3.0 era, whereas the rest of me moved onto Windows 95, and then 2000/XP. This explains why I hate Windows Mobile ("it just doesn't feel right") and why I prefer Symbian Phones, and the only PDA I've ever actually felt was 'quality' was a Palm Tungsten running that PalmOS or whatever it is they use.
I'm not wrong. Windows Mobile is the equivalent (look & feel) of mobile operating systems as Windows 3.0/3.1 is of desktop operating systems.

No, only every 5th one...
Sorry for starting a new thread on this issue but I have verified that the issue of the phone not suspending after x min of inactivity ( Power settings ) is cause by ActiveSync and specifically Direct Push.
If ActiveSync is disabled or the sync schedule is set to manual or every x min, the device goes into standby mode normally as configured by the Power Settings. If set to "As items arrive", the device stays on indefinitely.
Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Again, apologies for bumping this topic.
Noticed something different with ActiveSync when DirectPush is used ( "As Items Arrive" sync frequency ), unlike my previous phone, ( Touch ) ActiveSync show "Connected" to Exchange all the time rather than the last time it sync'ed with Exchange.
Could this be the cause ?
Are you sure it's not an interaction of ActiveSync and some other app? I'm using Direct Push and my phone has no trouble entering standby as configured.
The "Connected" behavior is normal for Direct Push, at least as far as I've seen on WM6. AS opens a connection and never closes it so long as push is active so that the server has a channel back to the handheld. Otherwise, the server can't reach the handheld and you're back into the old "SMS Message" direct push.

Thanks for the reply,
According to the Task Manager nothing is running but Activesync. If I kill AS, the phone goes into standby properly. If I turn it back on I see AS running and it stays on all the time after that with nothing but AS running.
Has there been a ROM update since the Kaiser launch ?
My version is: 1.56.405.5
ROM date: 8/28/07
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
There are many, many apps out there that run, but don't show in Task Manager. SPB MobileShell, SPB PocketPlus, SPB PhoneSuite are all on my phone and running all the time, but don't ever show up in the task manager. I believe Phone Alarm also "ducks" the TM, among many others. Task Manager is typically limited only to those applications that the system doesn't launch, with AS being the one notable exception.
So while it's logical to think that AS is causing your problem, it's likely something else or something that's interacting with AS to keep the phone awake. As I said, I use Direct Push with a slew of other software and my phone hits standby without any issues.
What else are you running on your phone?

Other that what comes with the phone, I have installed Skype, TomTom, Google Maps and PHM RegEdit. None of these are running however (that I can see )
What can I use to see all the running tasks ?
Thanks
If you can receive an incoming call with Skype when it's not listed in Task Manager, it's running. That'd be the one that I'd test, since it may very well be "hiding out" in the background. TomTom, Google Maps, and PHM RegEdit don't run in the background to my knowledge.
Make a call to your Skype number to see if it comes through. If it does, try removing Skype and seeing if your standby issue doesn't go away. But Skype would need a live connection to receive the call, so that'd by my #1 contender at the moment.

Hey thanks for taking the time to help me out with this issue.
To make sure Skype is not the problem I uninstalled it and restarted the phone. As usual with AS running ( and more specifically with sync settings set at "As Items Arrive" ) the phone does not suspend. If I kill AS or set sync options to x min or manual it suspends properly.
Any other ideas ?
Many thanks again.
'fraid not. You might try deleting the partnership with Exchange and recreating it to see if that clears things up. AS can be very, very odd sometimes, so that might help.
Final post on the subject everyone,
I took the plunge and did a hard reset. Setup ActiveSync with DirectPush ONLY and let the phone sit. It did not go into standby. I killed AS and after 2 min the screen went off. I turned it back on and it stayed on. I switched to AS, changed to sync manually and after 2 min it went into standby. Setting sync to "As items arrive" again and the phone stayed on.
So, from a hard reset I can confirm that AS and DirectPush is the problem.
Thanks eveyone for your suggestions. Perhaps configuration or settings on the Exchange Server side is the problem.
An annoying feature of the AT&T ROM on the Tilt is that if you have the password feature enabled, the phone will start on the Today screen EVERY time you turn it on, no matter which app you had up when you turned it off. My problem is that my company's Exchange server forces me to use the password feature, so it minimizes all my programs every time I turn it on, which is a major time-waster in terms of getting back to whatever I was doing before I turned it off.
Does anyone know how to disable this "feature" without disabling the password requirement feature? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the password problem, but this thing puts "tabs" on open programs(like your windows desktop pc).
Theres no performance loss, and getting back to your program is a breeze!
From what I understood, that's a WM6 issue - not a Tilt/Kaiser issue.
And I agree. It's incredibly annoying.
I have that problem too. wth. is there any registry we can change?
It's not just the Tilt, it happens on a stock TyTn II. As already mentioned, it seems to be a WM6 issue.
Hi,
I sent back my first orange TYTN II because their GPRS internet kept connecting everytime I turned on the phone and also every so often for no reason (little connecting icon at the top of the screen kept coming on and the timer started to count). The lady on the phone told me it is meant to do that on PDA phones to speed up accessing the internet explorer and using the internet, after a week of phone calls lol but i'm not sure about this as a guy in an orange shop told me their's doesnt do that. I ordered mine online. Also if this was the case I wouldn't know how long I would be using their GPRS for? lol. Maybe its only an orange thing. I don't know this is my first PDA phone. I told them to disable Orange internet completely from my phone which they did but it still tried to connect and failed lol. I couldn't see any application trying to access the internet etc.
I recieved a new TYTN II after a lot of hassle. Everything seems to be working fine. The problem is now the "Data Connection Button" in the Communication manager doesn't come on at all and I am not sure whether it is suppost to or not. I gather this button is meant to turn off all data connections in one go. Does this include WanLan Wifi? as it doesn't come on when i active this. I cant try the orange internet again because i told them to disable it. I am thinking to call them up to re-enable this but i was just wondering if there is any point in doing this and if there is any point in this button apart from closing connections.
Another question I would like to ask is why when I go into my SMS messages and click on one to read does the scrollbar start at the bottom of the page. i have to scroll up to actually read the message which is annoying. Is there a setting for this? ><
Help appreciated thanks. ^_^
I doubt a faulty device was the reason for the GPRS connection. There are several things on the device that have auto update features. Siome of the things that can cause this are: WLM, HTC Home (Weather Page), Quick GPS, etc...
As for the Data Switch in Comm manager, that is only for data, 3G, GPRS, etc... There is a WIFI/WLAN switch in most kaiser models as well.
Unless you close all the way out of the email app, (end program, x-button) it will open where it last was. Selecting a method other than "Recieved" such as "From" or "Subject" can also cause the device to open if different positions.
Thanks for the reply GSLEON3,
I couldn't find any reason for why the GPRS was automatically connecting when I turned on my phone. I didn’t have any weather etc, it was doing it after I hard reset also. I noticed that it did it every time I turned on my phone however if I used my old sim card before they disabled it for the upgrade it started to do it randomly which was odd. Well it doesn’t do it on my new one so I guess I’m happy. Maybe it was the quick GPS ill never know now. I have installed the HTC home interface because I hate all the orange crap they put onto the phone.
“As for the Data Switch in Comm manager, that is only for data, 3G, GPRS, etc...” just to turn off these data connections? Or does this button speed things up or do something else when it is activated? Ah yes how silly of me about the Wifi. I was just wondering why my data connections button wasnt coming on and really i just want some kind of method for testing it apart from GPRS (dont have provider's GPRS activate) and 3G (video calls? do they come out of my minutes?). I'm confused.
When I click the little SMS button which is located more or less in the center of the home screen above the shortcut tabs it goes to the messages page. On this page I have the Inbox filter selected on the top left and the Received filter selected on the top right. At the moment I have 73 SMS messages going down in a list. When I click any of these to read them including newly received items which go to the top of the list I cannot read the actual message until I scroll up using the scrollbar. I have tried to play around with menus etc to see if it holds the position in memory but I have had no luck in making the bar stay at the top.
If I click the top left button and then click Today to go to the home screen the SMS application automatically closes anyway so it wont open where I last was or keep anything in memory. I think this is what you are saying to do. If I open to read any message and then go out to the list of SMS's it wont remember the scrollbar was last at the top when reading the message so keeping the application in memory will have no use as it resets to the bottom as I enter to read any message. I hope this is clear, sorry if it is long-winded.
Many Thanks
Nevermind I have found out why the message bar keeps going to the bottom in the SMS page. Its because of the "D-Pad Scroll Navigation" in the Kaiser Tweak application.
I will just assume that the data connection button is not required and not worry about it i think. Can't find any information about it.
thanks.
Hi all,
just wondering.... everytime i sync my device to my pc, i always get a message on screen that says please unlock your device, even though it isnt password protected. I figure this is an activesync issue. Ive had a look at the setting options on both the pc and TyTyn II and cant seem to see any option for turning this off.
Ive done a search but cant seem to use the right set of key words...all i get is pages and pages of info on unlocking my phone ...Fustrating.....
Any help?
Thanks
i dont think they mean password lock, they mean a standby lock or maybe even the powerdown button
If you are syncing thru Exchange 2007 there is a activesync policy that regulates that password.
To remove it you will have to change the activesync policy on your exchange 2007 server.
since i setup my exchange sync, i have issues answering the phone.
i do have the S2U and when the pop-up for the caller id comes on, the phone wil not take any input. i deactivated the S2U, but still, i do not get the regular caller id picture. the phone it's just locked...
something is screwed up..
but is there a registry entry that could be modified?!
