Enabling password means always starting at Today screen - please help - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

An annoying feature of the AT&T ROM on the Tilt is that if you have the password feature enabled, the phone will start on the Today screen EVERY time you turn it on, no matter which app you had up when you turned it off. My problem is that my company's Exchange server forces me to use the password feature, so it minimizes all my programs every time I turn it on, which is a major time-waster in terms of getting back to whatever I was doing before I turned it off.
Does anyone know how to disable this "feature" without disabling the password requirement feature? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the password problem, but this thing puts "tabs" on open programs(like your windows desktop pc).
Theres no performance loss, and getting back to your program is a breeze!

From what I understood, that's a WM6 issue - not a Tilt/Kaiser issue.
And I agree. It's incredibly annoying.

I have that problem too. wth. is there any registry we can change?

It's not just the Tilt, it happens on a stock TyTn II. As already mentioned, it seems to be a WM6 issue.

Blackberry connect - corporate lock

I am using Balckberry connect to get my company e-mail and they pushed a policy out to automatically lock my device if unused for 30 minutes. It will not allow me to turn it off in the Blacberry security icon. It is greyed out. Is there a way to disable this lock from happening? Thanks! you guys rock!
Wondering the same thing....
I want to use the WM6 lock instead.
Corporate lock
I handle email for a fortune 100 company. I do blackberry and WM. There is no way to disable this once the policy is set. You can wipe the device which will of course remove the policy but you have no email. This is true in both cases. Only your blackberry or WM admin "could" disable the policy for you as a person.
Thru another post I have discovered that you can override the "lock" by stopping the "BlackBerrySecurity" services. However if you disable the service BB Connect will not startup. So you are forced to let it load after a soft-reset and then stop service and you will need to repeat this after each soft-reset.
Can someone post how to actually stop the BlackberrySecurity service?
Thanks!

It CAN be done.
1. install MemMaid and run it.
2. click on the Icon that looks like on old windows symbol with an arrow in front of it
3. along the top click on the down arrow next to 'Startup items'
4. select 'Startup Services'
5. select BlackBerrySecurity and press the Stop button
6. close MemMaid
7. NEVER tell anyone from your IT dept!
You need to complete this after every soft reset.
OK, Cool. Did that. Now can't seem to get the WM6 lock working. Settings, Personal, Lock is not responsive. My goal was to still be able to lock the device, but have the touch friendly pin entry of WM6 instead of the crappy blackberry version. Is this possible?
Phone dies....
I have been using BlackBerry Connect on my HTC Kaiser for quite a while now. It took a bit of time to get it set up initially and then again when I installed a new ROM and had to reinstall it. Anyway after these initial gremlins it has worked perfectly.
However..... A couple of days ago I switched on my phone (from sleep) and was presented with a screen telling me I must set a password - this was the BlackBerry Security Lock that has somehow been enforced (no idea why this wasn't pushed down previously?). Anyway I set the password as there was no other option (eventually as the password had to be of a certain complexity). This is a big PITA as I use TomTom Navigator and every 60-minutes (maximum delay that can be set) I am presented with this annoying Unlock screen. After a bit of searching I found the 'hack' on here to disable the BlackBerry Secruity Service and initially I thought this solved the issue (or at least bypassed it).
The last 2-days however I have been stuck with a dead phone when it has been 'asleep' in my pocket - the top left LED flashes to indicate the GSM radio is working but I cannot switch the phone on nor does it ring or do anything else when a call is received. If I connect it to my PC Or a charger the GSM LED lights to indicate it is charging but it won't switch on. The only option is to hit the reset button. I can only think the reason for this is the BlackBerry Security Service is stopped and the 60-minutes have elapsed? I am not sure though, but before this policy was enforced I never had this problem.
I am loathed to call the IT dept as they don't officially support BlackBerry Connect (I have a brand new BlackBerry Pearl in a box unopened...). Is there anyway to reset the security policy but leave the BlackBerry Security service running? Or any other way to restore the previous behaviour? Having a phone that doesn't ring sort of defeats the object of the whole thing doesn't it?

Anybody using IM+

I was using the demo which seems to work ok. So I bought it. Now I have an issue where once I close the IM program (but running in background), if I open the IM or try to read an incoming message, I don't get the IM+ window. I do get the bottom bar with all the menus that work, but I can't see my IM or the contact list.
I don't know what is causing this. I tested this program pretty much all the way through all my loading of my software. It was working. Then all of sudden it quit working, I tried to uninstall everything but that didnt fix it. I tried reinstalling the program but that too failed to help.
*bump**bump*
*bump*
*bump*
Hmmm, I bought one also but have not got that kind of issue.
So far so good.
I think you need to contact their support.
i have no problems with im+ either
no problems here
I contacted them 11/13 but still no answer. And just now I just tried to remove it and.. if I turn off "ALways run in background" it fixed it. BUT of course it shuts down the program the minute I close it. I moved the program over to the exceptions list for my tast manager. Now it sorta works. Thank GOD. I thought I waisted $40 on this program.
Not sure what this does:
"Prevent automatic power down"
If this option is marked with flag, your Pocket PC will be prevented from going to standby mode.
I think my Tilt still goes to sleep, like as if I pressed the power button after a few minutes, with or without the check on that box so I'm not sure what it does.

It's only meant for Pocket PC's, not PPC PE's. This is why there's no difference on a PPC phone.
Try 2 open the Today Screen with the Start Button.. or try to check if X BUtton is used just minimize and close on longer push.
both are options which should work.. had the same problem. you'd better bought agile messenger:O

Not to mention the whole pricing scheme they came up with, IM+ is a one time fee. Also, I've noticed more compatibility with Services from IM+ over Agile. Agile doesn't always recognize Aliases set by Messaging services, and I found it to be more bulky and bloated, but thats just my opinion. I wrote an email (using the form on the site) to ShapeServices support and got a response in 2 days... Not the most outstanding response time, but I guess better late then never.
Thanks for the replies. I found agile a day AFTER I bought IM+. It looks good, but didn't seem to be as polished as IM+, although IM+ isn't working all that great for me at the moment, but it is running now). Agile has something about paying $40+ for a lifetime subscription. Or was that for a years worth... I did like how you could send voice messages and pictures really easy in agile.
One thing that bothered me was, do these programs do a "forwarding" to keep track of what you send on their servers? I think Agile does. But I think IM+ uses AIMs server, but I could be wrong.

With the free Fring, you can even chat in voice (not just send voice clips) - it supports VoIP and is great. A Kaiser-compatible version has been released recently; I've published a news item on it today.
I'm using Palringo at the moment, with pidgin on my desktop to manage my list from until the next version comes out that has the brunt of the missing features. For my vote, it's the snappiest UI I've seen so far, a Today plugin is in the works (for now it's a tray icon for notification), has GREAT camera support like Agile, fun PTT radio like audio. Audio and Pictures work will non Palringo clients as well, they just recieve a link that lets them play / view through a web browser.
Their support is also friendly and fairly active on the forum. This IM client also has "groups" which are sort of like chat rooms that you can subscribe to. These have proven fun and useful as well in my experience.
I had agile, but it was to slow, I've had IM+ but was mislead by a phone rep that my phones version supported file transfers (what I liked), so they gave me a refund. I've also had Fring, but it doesn't support Yahoo or AIM, which I use about as much as any other. Once fring gets those I'll be tempted to go back to it though, excellent peice of code.
I have I'M+ on my XV-6700 installed on to the storage card, and as long as I don't suspend power everything works fine. If I do suspend power then when I turn the device back on it can't find the storage card, have to do a soft reset to be able to see the card again!
debating if its worth it, what other software would you recommend?
I need AIM and Google Talk
I found something bad. I guess I was wrong, If I turn this on, my tilt doesnt go insto standy. You tend not to notice this because most people hit the off button on the side of the unit. But I noticed it never shut down when I doing nothing (I have it to turn off after 2mins). But if I turned this off, then it would shut down. But I noticed with the Tilt off, IM+ would disconnect but not show that it was disconnected when you turn it back on.

Anyone using IM+ with Dutty's Kaiser DualTouch v1.1 ROM?
I am having problems with IM+ on Dutty's DualTouch v1.1 ROM and was wondering if anyone else has run into similar problems. I posted a description of the problem in Dutty's DualTouch v1.1 ROM Thread, but it doesn't seem like anyone there uses IM+. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I can not get AIM+ to work with Dutty's DualTouch v1.1 rom. When ever I open up a buddy, it does not give me the textbox below to enter a message. Anyone else with this issue? Agile does not work with my dataplan but works through the USB connection.

Activesync Lock

Hi all,
just wondering.... everytime i sync my device to my pc, i always get a message on screen that says please unlock your device, even though it isnt password protected. I figure this is an activesync issue. Ive had a look at the setting options on both the pc and TyTyn II and cant seem to see any option for turning this off.
Ive done a search but cant seem to use the right set of key words...all i get is pages and pages of info on unlocking my phone ...Fustrating.....
Any help?
Thanks
i dont think they mean password lock, they mean a standby lock or maybe even the powerdown button
If you are syncing thru Exchange 2007 there is a activesync policy that regulates that password.
To remove it you will have to change the activesync policy on your exchange 2007 server.
since i setup my exchange sync, i have issues answering the phone.
i do have the S2U and when the pop-up for the caller id comes on, the phone wil not take any input. i deactivated the S2U, but still, i do not get the regular caller id picture. the phone it's just locked...
something is screwed up..
but is there a registry entry that could be modified?!

Activesync randomly disconnects....

I've been putting up with this since I got my Diamond, but now enough is enough
Has anyone experience Activesync disconnecting there device after a random period of time?
The device connecs and syncs - no problems - but after what might be 5mins, or 35mins (randomly does this...), it just disconnects!!
Appears to have nothing to do with charging (could be only partially charged or fully) or actual syncing process. Not a real issue as it still syncs initially and even when disconnects it still charges up from the USB but...this appears to be a flaw with the s/w of diamond or WM6.1 (to me...)
If this is an issue perhaps someone from HTC might read this and note same!
Happens to me too. Not all the time, not often... exactly random, as you said. Quite annoying
I'm sure there can't be just two of us! This happens to me for nearly every connection, the difference is sometimes its in 5min, sometimes 5hrs
BTW, this happens with both my work and home PC......
Surely there are others with this issue???
now i cannot even connect but when i can never it will never doconect except when you turn the screen off
Hi,
I have the same disconnect problem, varies every time.
Looks like I'm not alone... Every 5 mins I need to turn off and on my screen t to reconnect, no matter at home or at office.... you guys are right... ANNOYING
Not sure if this might work but in Device manager > USB Hub properties > untick Allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

I haven't got any problem with Active Sync, both with Exchange server and with the desktop Outlook. Are you syncing with XP or Vista? I found Vista is rock solid when it comes to ActiveSync using their Mobile Device Center.

sounds like the device is turning off (not just the screen off)...this will of course disconnect ASync
OK, USB power off is not the issue here as with power manegement off it still disconnects.....
....anyone familiar with asynckiller? Built into SwiftB ROMs and is always running...what does this optimise? Could it be the culprit
Asynckiller the culprit...testing now...
could be getting closer now....I reckon its this Asynckiller built into the ROM
see here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
Have shut it down with task manager and see if the sync holds....stay tuned
hey guys i've had the same problem too. the answer to your question is simple: if the screen turns off, the device goes to sleep, the activesync connection is terminated. simple as that. in most cases however, my diamond never goes to sleep mode when in activesync... so if yours does, that's a newer problem
Hi,
I have the same problem with activesync by usb. This is very annoying especially if you have to transfer large files, like maps with TomTom-Home.
It is not the standby-mode which causes the problem. Even without going into standby the connection get loss.
My solution for the problem is to use bluetooth for active sync. I never get disconnected even I stay connected for hours!
I assume it must have to do something with the usb-controller. When I connect my device as mass-storage with my linux computer and transfer much/large files, I can see a lag in transfer after some time. The transfer stops for some seconds and then it goes on again.
Maybe this is the reason why activesync lose the connection
Have ruled out asynckiller....this is not the issue. Brief correspondance with SwiftB and he thinks this issue has been around as long as WM6.1 as been i.e. MS Activsync issue (another one!!) oh so frustrating
I was having this same issue when using a generic cradle I sent off for to sit my HTC Touch Diamond in. I've gone back to the cable that comes in the box with it and suddenly no more disconnections! Are you all using cradles too?
Yep. Have the same problem. Using Vista and 6.1. It wasn't a problem with XP and WM 5, but has appeared with 6.1.
I don't think it is Vista, as it also happens on another machine with XP and 6.1. Also not to do with the power saving, screen sleep or 'phone sleep. I disabled these in turn and the 'phone still disconnects (it does seem to be the 'phone, not the PC - both Vista and XP work fine with two other WM5 devices, although Microsoft is as confusing as ever by saying that AS is no longer required with Vista, whilst selling WM that always requires AS, thus ensuring that AS on the 'phone has to sync with Mobile Connection Centre).
It has got better and worse during the 8 weeks I've had the 'phone - not clear whether this is ROM or application related, as I'm changing so many things at once. Clean ROM install seems to help, but then the problem reappears when all apps are back on the 'phone. Maybe it's not getting a necessary data connection signal from the PC? I'm running it from a Dell M1330 USB2 port.

NOKIA to HTC newbie questions

Hi Guys,
I am coming from Symbian to Windows Mobile. I have a HTC Fuze and can't seem to figure a few things out.
1. In Nokia (Symbian) you can setup your email and other data services to use your home wi-fi when you are in home. When you are outside, it will use 3G/GPRS etc. automatically (once preferred access points are setup). I can't figure this out with HTC FUZE. Everytime I have to turn on and off the Wi-FI Connection (Connection Manager -> wi-fi ON or OFF). if I leave it on, it keeps popping up with networks that it finds. If I leave it Off, it doesn't use wi-fi to retrieve emails and other things when am at home. I am sure this should be easy... Help !!!
2. When I set my phone in Vibrate mode, it doesn't even play music through headphones. I have to set it "ON" mode for it to even play music. This is annoying. At work, I want the phone to be in vibrate mode but still listen to music through head phone every now and then and not worry about my phone ringing. Is there a simple fix? Am I missing something??
3. When the phone is in Vibrate mode, I would like it to vibrate for incoming emails. it does not do that.
4. What is the best recommended "TODAY" Screen plug-in/program for wm 6.5 other than the titanium one?
I am using NATF's Win 6.5 latest ROM.
I appreciate all your help.

1) I think you can go to Settings>personal>Sounds&Notifications and turn off the found new network notifications on the notifications tab (you also may be able to settings>wifi and change whether it scans or not, scanning seems like it would drain the battery)
2) The volume screen usually (depends on rom) has two tabs, one for sounds, one for ringer, so you could have sounds but vibe instead of ringer. Other than some 3rd party service that switches the volume settings based on the headphone port, i think that's about as good as it gets.
3) In that same settings>personal>sounds menu, you can change the new email notification to vibrate or sound and vibrate or whatever. it has to include vibrate in that setting though to vibrate ever.
4) I like the old-school HTC Home, or similarly SPB PocketPlus or SPB Diary. If you're looking for something fancier, lots of people use the Touchflo 3d (which can work in 6.5) or SPB Mobile Shell (there's a demo of version 3 on their website)
Hope I helped some, I know the windows mobile limitations can be annoying, but they're pretty minor overall (imho). All things considered, I've been a big fan for years, you just need to use a lot of 3rd party apps and tools.
Good luck, finding XDA was probably the best thing I ever did for my WinMo phone, hope you have the same experience.
Thank you very much for your reply. I can't seem to find the setting that you mention for turning off wireless scanning. Is this because of the ROM?
Also, if I have both Data Connection and Wi-Fi connection enabled, and say for example run Opera, how do you know which connection it is using? How do we change/specify the connection that opera uses? I am just using Opera as an example... bigger question is emails.

Hmm, I think I may have made that setting up
As long as your email account is set to use your Internet Connection (versus Work Connection), which should always be the default, and when you first connected to your wifi, it should have asked something like "This networks connects to: <radio buttons> The Internet, Work Network". As long as everything is "The Internet" you should be good. I don't know how to double check what connection it is actually using except looking at the activity light on your access point, but it should always use wifi over cellular data if wifi is available.
As far as the scanning / battery life, the performance slider in wifi was all i could find. I just use the Comm Manager to toggle wifi as needed, but admittedly I don't use it alot. I could see it being annoying.
So the nokia would know when you were by certain wifi spots and connect, without killing the battery life completely by having wifi on 24/7? That's pretty sweet...
I wonder if it just low power scans Wifi AP's every 5 min or so, maybe someone could make a similar WinMo Service?
I know this is way off topic for this thread, but if anyone has a more raphael specific programming guide, I'd appreciate a link.
I'm taking a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa457716.aspx
to see how hard programming is.
Both the headphone thing and the wireless thing would be nice to have as features. I'll see what I can do, but I've never developed for WinMo before, so absolutely no promises on anything =)
Thanks again, Friend.
You are right. I am not sure what happens in Nokia whether it does a low power scan or something... but when you turn off "Wireless scanning" in Nokia, it doesn't aggressively pop up available networks... thats all.
The way I used to do this in Nokia is through preferred access points. You would setup your wifi as your preferred and then the secondary access point would be AT&T network. Whether I use profimail (email client) or fring (chat voip client) they all had such a setting and somehow used wi-fi when I am at home without me doing anything.
BTW, the battery life did suck on my N95 8GB HTC so far has given me way better battery life than the Nokia.
For now, I will leave my WiFi On and see what happens.
The headphone thing is bizarre... I cannot adjust the phone volume only (1st slider bar on that screen) without adjusting the ringer volume. They move together on that screen. I am now in doubt of the ROM... so may be I will try just the plain vanilla Da_G ROM.
I need one general advice - For a newbie like me to winmo who is learning the basics of winmo, should I stay with stable, established ROMs than going to winmo 6.5 right now? should I go back to winmo 6.0? what do you think? Can you suggest a good ROM? I don't need/care to use the TF3D.
I get a lot of emails with attachments and one of the MAIN reason I came to HTC was the ability to edit/read/create Office documents. I will be happy if I can simply tune my HTC to be a good business user phone.
I appreciate your replies. Thanks much!!

As far as that goes, I've only used 6.5 for a few days, the deal breaker for me was SPB Diary not working (and SBSH Breeze, i tried both, they do the same thing). I NEED them for getting work done. For some reason it doesn't pull calendar data in 6.5, so I've always used 6.1 ROMS.
I'm actually recently back on EnergyRom2.0 from 4/16/09 (the version without TF3D is my favorite ROM ever, i think) but am tempted to tryout the Gen.Y R3 rom, which is a much newer 6.1 that's supposed to be stable, it's built off his popular HTC Diamond ROM and has the newer goodies like wifi data sharing built in. (i think)
Monx's ROMeos is on his site, you have to donate to get download access, but he has some very nice, fast, stable WM6.1 roms I've used before also.
I think at this point, at least with WM6.1, most of the established roms are fast and stable, it comes down to what you like bundled with it, and what looks good to you.
If you haven't seen it, I'd check out www.blownfuze.org, he talks more about 6.5 roms, and a LOT of other essentials for your phone. (in a very entertaining fashion)
