Hey, someone sent me this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5802839981
From first glance, it totally looks like a hoax. However, is it possible that someone figured out a way to rewrite the ROM to replace the BT stack?? And why would it require the IMEI number?? I have some serious doubts, but I'd like to hear some others informed opinnions.

Looks like a hoax. They do have 99 feedback, but then that probably means someone probably just hacked their account.
Here is the main wording from the ad, it I notice that nobody has bought one of these yet so no feedback on whether it works. Why would it be emailed to the phone if it is a zip file, it would make more sense to send it by normal email. I think the imei may be a protection device to prevent you using the patch on other phones, the patch will probably work only with that specific imei number.
It's very simple to install this. Just include your your IMEI number from your Siemens Cingular SX66 in the notes field when you make the paypal payment and I will configure and email you a specific update for your phone. To lookup your IMEI, just type *#06# on your phone. When you get my update, unzip the file and upload it to your cell phone memory. use the folder/file viewer on the phone to click on the file. This will install the update. Then unplug your battery for a few seconds, plug it in again and your update will be complete. Then remove any bluetooth settings, delete any profiles, delete any paired BT devices and rescan and pair your BT headset. It's that simple. This update takes about 10 seconds normally. I have never seen any loss of data or any other errors due to this update
Here are some quotes from the Cingular forum (where I found about this patch) on this topic http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=siemens&message.id=10667 (at the end of the page)

It has nothing to do with the wireless.
I am selling a software update the I created for the SX66. The problem is not with the headset that you are buying. It is with the bluetooth software on the SX66. Siemens doesn't want to spend the time and money to fix the problem. They will not even discuss it. They don't care. The reason is that they don't sell enough. This model will be replaced with another model soon and Siemen's will just move on. So will Cingular. That's why I got sick and tired of waiting and I created an update.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5802839981
Now you can buy the same update and install it on your phone in a few minutes. I'm selling the update on ebay.

Well, I just installed it. As near as I can tell with my Jabra 250 earpiece, it makes no difference. The static is certainly still there. I am pretty convinced this isn't a 'software' issue anyhow.

Well that's your opinion. I know that this update fixes the SX66. I have tested it on a few SX66 and it makes a world of difference. The only earpiece I recommend is the Motrolla HS820 earpiece. Jabra BT earpieces create problems with other cell phones so I don't recommend them for the SX66. Anyway for those of you who are interested, get my upgrade. If you feel that my efforts should not be rewarded for a small amount of $5 then enjoy using your SX66 plastered to your face. It doesn't work well with any wired earpiece because it needs a stereo 3 conductor plug. It doesn't work with any BT earpiece with the regular siemen's upgrade.
If you are angry at me, your anger is misguided. I am trying to find a solution. It's Siemens that is not updating this phone properly like Audiovox, Sprint, Orange, and other brands are. HTC gives the tools to update it. They just won't bother because it costs too much.
Have a great weekend everybody. If you still want to get the update, just follow the link in my previous posts.

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. As I stated the JT250 doesn't work any better with your fix than it did before. Your unbiased and intelligent appriasal of the situation is indicated by your childish response. I was willing to blow the $5 to find out, but since you're going to insult me you can deal with the Paypal complaint.
The phone works fine with a wired earpiece. I don't know what you think the plug problem is. I have used it with my Noise Cancelling aviation headset.

There can be 2 methods how to do such a fix:
1. Buy a 1000$ SDK from Broadcomm, and make a fix. But in this case 5$ is a very little price for such work.
2. Extract the audiogw.dll from one of the extended ROMs and give this DLL as his own "fix". In this case he is taking money for a free update offered by some operator. Imate offered such an update some time ago, maybe he is selling this update.
Just post it here, I think the IMEI number is bull****.
It's a fix isn't it, what does that has to do with IMEI.
Let the guys here extract the fix to see what has changed.
Greetz,
[email protected] :?
I think Mamaich is correct....this smells...
Why does he need an IMEI number? This has NOTHING to do with BT. I think he is offering an existing upgrade that anyone can download and in the meantime make money (to make it look "real") and getting your IMEI number (so he can sell it, and make more cash).
I contacted the seller...
I described my configuration (see signature). He told me that I would not see any benefits and suggested that the patch is to an earlier configuration (actually told me not to buy it!).
He claimed the IMEI number was keyed into the copy protection scheme that he was using.
Bottom line: if you're keeping up with the updates on this board, there's probably no reason to shell out the 5 bucks on an upgrade you already have.
goestoeleven wheare can I get the upgrade you have?
It solve the BT problem?
I'm tired of looking oktions to use my bluetooth headset clearly...
I have no Bluetooth solution
it still stinks... until we get an upgraded build, we're stuck with static...
If you haven't already done so, check out the SX66 Standardization Project:

This is probably the best you can do with what's available to us today... (waiting for WM2005)
If any of you have the problem that BT goes sleep mode and disconnects your headset, you may try this. It worked for me today. (note: this is only a workaround to prevent BT going sleep mode. This will not fix any of the BT distortion)
Click on the BT icon located at the bottom right of the today screen. Select BT Manager. Then, DON'T click on the X (Close) button of the BT Manager. Just click on the Start > Today icon. This will hide the BT Manager, but it will leave it running on the background (so this way it does not go in sleep mode). I tried this morning and my headset haven't disconnected in all day.
Hope it helps...
Just to summarise:
Tap on the BT Icon on bottom right, turn on BT, tap on the headset to activate then not click the "OK" on top right, instead "Start-Today" ??
Isn't working for me, tried it 10 times. Everytime I send the PDA into Standy and reactivate it and I tap on the BT icon it shows that the BT is not active.
daaaammmmnnnn... It looked soooo good the have a small solution for it.

WM5 Bluetooth A2DP
Just to share what I found...it may not be significant....
I Manage to see a Universal/O2 Exec proto device myself that Supports A2DP. It seems that MS Bluetooth Stack is not that crap afterall.
To use Bluetooth Stereo, the device has a shortcut under programs that says "Turn on Stereo HeadSet" and I have successfully paired the WM 5.0 device with my iTech S35 Stereo headset myself on the spot.
Anyway after what I saw I felt that this can be achieved on my BA WM5.
Hence, I started looking into the registry and started enabling the AudioGateway entries.......Suprise!!!! my iTech S35 was detected to have HeadSet Profile!!! But wat was missing was the Audio headset s/w......
oh yah bear in mind when I was trying the above my BA WM5 was without the "Headset today" patch.
Question -- I have TomTom on my Tilt ... it installs fine, and works fine ... however each time I start it up the sound is turned off .. .and I have to touch the screen, turn on the sound twice before the change in settings "sticks" and I get the voice giving me directions.
Any thoughts how I can fix this?
Mine does the exact same thing, otherwise it works perfectly. Running XDA Live 1.1 ROM...
That is the default function. You must always activate the sound after starting.

hate to tell you guys, but it's not the default. The sound is on when I fire up Tom Tom on my Tilt, I've never had any issue nor had to go into settings to turn it on before. Are you guys using a ROM other then the original one?
Default off on both my HK Kaiser & my AT&T Tilt. Don't know what to tell you.
Solution that works for me!
I have found that all I have to do is to rotate the volume wheel on the side of my Tilt and the sound gets turned on without having to go through the preferences menu. It will repeat the last direction when you do this but it doesn't bother me too much and it lets me know that the sound is enabled.
The same issues occur with the previous version 6.03
And on other PPCs as well (eg IPAQ hw6910).
But it does not happen always, so I deduce it's related to conflicts with other softwares.
And it certainly isn't a feature, as a previous poster suggested.
TT as a default always starts with sound ON.

I didn't have this problem until about 30 minutes ago, I received the Carcomm Cradle I ordered for the car, installed it, tried out TomTom and now I have the same problem as you.
Are any of you using a Carcomm Cradle?
The only other thing I changed before the sound problem is I bought a "Veripart 3-in-1 Converter HTC ExtUSB" so I can charge the PDA and listen to music using the 3,5 mm jack port.
I also have exactly the same problem, and solve it with the volume wheel. I also had this problem on my Hermes.
TomTom 'fixes'
FWIW, not sure why, but the volume wheel never solves my problem in a predictable fashion, so I've went and found the following apps that make things easier:
TomTom Menu Builder -- Change the location of where the 'Turn on sound' or any button shows up in the menu for faster access. e.g., I've placed my 'Turn on sound' button on page 1 with 'Navigate to' and 'exit application'. The menu also allows you to enable all sorts of 'hidden' menus, with the most useful being the voice preferences menu, which lets you choose how verbose the speaker is. Alternatively, if you're not up to installing the menu builder, you could download my TomTom menu (see attached). Either way, place TomTom.mnu in \TomTom\SdkRegistry.
TomTom Starter -- Make your phone volume max and turn off all notification popups before starting TomTom. Reverses volume and notification changes after exiting TomTom. Great for when you forget that your phone is on vibrate or at a low sound setting.
BTW, its not the ROM that is the problem, it most likely has to do with TomTom. I'm using 6.03, non-taster edition.
The sound will be muted when you start TomTom with a data connection active. If you disconnect your data connection (G, 3G or H) before starting TomTom the sound should be on.....

Thanks michi123, I seem to recall reading about this in another thread. However, that's still yet another application (comm manager) and button I need to press before starting TomTom.
It's much easier for me to use the two applications I've included, as I'll need to go into the menu anyway to enter my navigation point and should I forget to turn off vibrate or crank up my volume, TomTomStarter fixes that for me...

Excellent! That works. And unless you have changed the functionality of your end button (like in the xda ROM) it is pretty quick to hold down the red end button (to close all data connections) before opening TomTom.
But it's not very effective when you're using a converged device, right?
I mean, would you turn off your phone every time you'd want to load TT, and then have to remember to turn it back on (while still inside TT)?

All holding down the end key does is cancel all active data connections .. it does not "turn off" the phone (unless you happen to be on a call). So yes, if you want to tun TT when you are on the phone, this solution will not work, but if you want to run TT when you are not actively speaking, holding down the end key first solves the sound problem. Then, you can still make and receive calls and, for that matter, you can still use data programs too, all with TT running.
Very useful thread, I've just updated mine and my G/Fs TyTns, we both have exactly the same ROM and RADIO, hers starts with Volume on, Mine starts with Volume off, the only real difference is that we're on different service providers, we both have MS ActiveSync running against our different corporate Exchange servers, and I have reduced my connectivity to GPRS to save battery. Will give the Tweaker app a go and see what happens. Sh
Alex. What version of tomtom are you running. I cannot get the menu file to work with my version 6.032(8351) no taster version.
Hi guys,
I just wanted to post on here cos I noticed some information that I didn’t agree with and also I have tested what others have said and it works so I thought I would say thankyou in one breath and bugger in another.
I have tested TomTom 6.031 SDK version on a HTC TyTN2, Glofiish, HP614c, HTC p3300 and a HTC Cruise and all of them start TomTom with the sound muted if they have a data connection active!
Sound is not muted at start-up if there is no data connection. This is great to know as I was baffled by it all but it also causes me a pain in that I need the data connection all the time, so I think its a mistake if TomTom themselves presume otherwise.
I have a XDA Orbit 2 on order but I am guessing it will be the same with that. I dont remember this issue with Windows Mobile 5, but it happens for sure on 6.
Also I have an issue with the 6.031 SDK and the unmute function call doesn’t appear to work!
Ho hum... so many devices with the same issue....
Ram
I have to admit I made a slight error in my statement above, I hadn’t tried it on the HTC p3300 and got the same result, it would appear that the HTC p3300 is the only device out of the many I have tried that doesn’t switch to silent when loading TomTom while a data connection is active.
I am trying to work out why this is as I am running the same software installation on all the devices.
Hi all,
I installed the WM6.1 RUU from the HTC site, and discovered that my bluetooth receiver won't work with Tomtom anymore. nor wil the internal antenna. The phone keeops trying to dial up a modem conenction when trying to access the receiver or antenna.
I've made certain the bluetooth link is up, and set up the COM ports, but no good.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Um Bluetooth and TomTom, I don't think many use those together in this forum. See, the kaiser/tilt/etc/etc has a built in gps dohicky that we use. Now if thats what your doing then of course I would suggest searching.
I came up with this and it's recent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397728&highlight=gps+won't+work
If it's a bluetooth gps device then what happens with regular Bluetooth devices such as an ear piece?
Thanks for the response-
I am aware of the integral antenna, but it won't "see" that, either. I have tried numerous COM port settings with no luck. The other thread you reference indicates the user will eventually get GPS connectivity, whereas I get none- the phone tries to dial out to a modem, or tries to use the data connection for the GPS receiver, whether it be bluetooth or internal. It then gives up, obviously not making a connection.
I don't use an earpiece, so it's not a big deal to me.
Do you have it set to com 4 and have you tried something like google maps? Set it so that windows manages it. There is also another program out that deals with just gps, no maps or anything and it has been known to help jump start gps. It should be dialing out just for gps unless it's pulling up a map or something.

Hi there,
It's indeed confirmed now that the gps chipset in diamond is Static navigation enabled, i.e. it won't refresh your location and speed if you are walking, it'll just lock your last gps location instead of updating it continuously while you walk. So it's nearly makes it impossible to walk to your destination i.e. you can't geocache at all.
I hope anybody has some clue about turning it off.
Have you tried something like SirfTech - if you can get it to connect to the internal GPS device (and assuming it is a SirfStar chipset, which I still don't know for sure?) then you should be able to toggle the static navigation setting. There are instructions right at the very bottom of that page on how to adjust the static navigation setting.
The other remaining question is how long this change will persist - hopefully it should persist until the battery is removed, but it depends how the power to the GPS receiver is switched - it's possible that switching off the PDA, or even putting it into standby, could cause the GPS receiver state to reset to default.
Its not a sirf chipset and those tools wont work on it

I second that. I guess we people will have to live with it. There's a HTC GPS utility from HTC which works on this qualcomm chip but I am no expert if there's any setting which can turn static navigation off. For someone wanna give a try to the HTC tool, download the attached file.
i just did a quick test with Diamond running TomTom walking along the street. It works fine in pedestrian mode. My actual postion was accurate at all times during the test. Diamond GPS is suitable for navigation in pedestrian mode.
Probably you have not tryed with some device with really good SirfStar III GPS, like ETEN X500.
@panosha
my point is: walking navigation mode is indeed available with Diamond running TomTom. I am not to compare GPS performance of Diamond directly with Sirf III equipped devices.
That said, if you take a look at my signature, you would certainly notice that I have also few HTC Sirf III equipped phones presently and not to mention TomTom GO 510. I am quite certain that Diamond is quite usable for walking routes..
Is usable for walking routes, but it has mediocre behavior for this use, concerning the good GPS devices.
@panosha.
mediocre behavior indeed.
I was referring to the very first post in this thread:

yes, it will refresh GPS location as you walk.
yes, it will update GPS position fairly constantly.
yes, it is possible to walk to a destination and geocache.
Sorry but I have to disagree.
While the Diamond keeps up with a standalone device while driving, I took them both out walking today and the Diamond is terrible while walking. In fact I did the route three times and it was always approximately 30 feet out of synch which is no good at all in a city environment.
If anyone has any idea how to improve this I'd certainly be happy to hear it.
I have a P1i and external receiver and at this rate I may have to return the Diamond and go back to it, which is a shame.
Yeah. That's the point. It indeed keeps up while driving but crap while walking.
Folks, I think it would be really important to find a solution for this problem.
It seems that it has definitely to do with static navigation and
is no problem of any kind of application.
Since I have my diamond I used a lot of different gps software,
but the lag is always the same.
This is indeed very bad, thus the reception quality is superb!
My last HTC was a trinity which had also a Qualcom chipset,
but with this device I never noticed such a behavior.
Somehow it must be possible to turn the static navigation of...
Are there any news so far?
I guess nobody could figure it out yet. WE have to keep our fingers crossed
Is there any other news?
Disabling static navigation would be greate!!
Does anyone know the brand/model of the gps chip?
And there's always a lag between your actual position and the position shown in the GPS software....
Sometimes this lag is more than 50m...
HastaSSSS
I am trying to see if the Qualcomm ONEgps - GPS can have its programming changed with QPST, but unfortunately I havent found any information on getting it to run with Diamond. I think that would be the only way to turn off static nav, as the system is not Sifir or what ever its called, so non of the current "static nav" off solutions will work. I have OziExplorer running and I get the issue. I also noticed that there is a lot of unecessary activiting on decent/assend info, its as though it has quite a unstable 3d lock.
Can anyone else using TomTom pedestrian mode could confirm if there is no delay (more then 10-30 seconds) between starting walking and position beginning to update?
Thanks!
D.
does tt has special option for pedestrian? maybe the problem is tt and NOT the hardware (gps-diamond)??
i am using igo and it has special options for pedestrian, for car, bicycle, public transportation and even emergency vehicle. seeing this made me think that the program will react different at different speeds.
i did not tried the pedestrian option but i promise to do it and come back with the results.
Sorry about the dumb question, bust how can I switch to pedestrian mode in TomTom???
It's the same s*ht
The GPS on this receiver, for the time being, really sucks...
I'm hopping that someone will figure out a solution, or with a release of a new radio ROM.
Even when I'm driving, the gps lags so much.... Drives me crazy!
When I stop on a red light, the gps still indicates speed for 15s more or less, until it actually stops on the place where my car actually is...
I wonder if the gou acceleration driver is actually installed...it could happen that this delay is due to the fact that the CPU has to do all the work, and since the resolution is VGA, it means extra work, which the CPU can't handle 100%...
HastaSSSS
so here is the deal.
I am on my third tilt from AT&T. The first phone the receptions sucked they said it was fine... I do everything to try and fix, ROMs, radio etc... etc... finally i got an external antenna, it was passable. My son then started working and Best Buy mobile and said this phone is not normal push it... so I did.
Short story they sent me another phone (warranty). This phone seemed a little better receptions etc... so I reconnect to all the corporate stuff (email etc.) and add just a few utilities to manage
- Kaiser Tweaks
- SKTools
- HTC plugin
Seems ok couple months pass and I notice same poor reception... eventually the only solution is to leave the connector for the external attenna on the phone to improve reception. this sucks as I walk around with extra wire on the phone but hey it works...
just two days ago I again tire of this and do battle with AT&T and they send me another replacement... lo and behold the reception is better (two bars in my house, one in basement.. I am happy right... yup.
So i go through the process of reconfig... setup..install and since my office is in the basement reconnect external attenna (to get 4 bars).
Guess what by the next morning phone is performing exactly like the others.
This leaves me with two possible logical assumptions
1. Somehow the use of an external antenna is impacting the phone (changing sensitivity, radio, etc.)
2. the install of Kaiser, or SK or other utilities (again nothing dramatic) is making a registry change which impacts peformance.
Additional info
After poor performance I hard reset - no impact

I beleive you are right.. I have read numberous posts that after you plug something into the external cell antenna port, you will never get" good" reception again.. That is why it is covered on the batterydoor (nor like the gps one)... Just thought you might want to know...

that has been my thinking which is why I was posting here to see if there was any knowledge or experience.. I pushed this issue with ATT support but surprisingingly they said not only was there not an issue but should not be an issue with using and external antenna. I would have thought they might try to use it as a warranty issue...
The antenna is useful both for office (basement) and travel as it really improves sustaining connections on long drives (data/voice).
I would think that if the issue was out there it would surface.
I too have had on/off reception on the Kaiser. It has to be a hardware issue because the true reception is grand. I have moments in time versus location where it will refuse to call out, receive calls or send/rec text messages. Then 5-20+ minutes go by and I find I missed calls, txt's, etc. I would reboot it, reset it, etc and it will always do it. I can use any other phone on the same provider and always have a perfect signal in the same location. Kaiser will even display a full signal in the bar and still nothing. Yesterday for example (I live in Las Vegas), I drove from one end of town to the other. The entire trip, the phone would not work. It drove me nuts because I was trying to call someone who was trying hard to get into touch with me. It started causing panic in the other person because they couldn't reach me and I couldn't call them. It is just a repetitive headache.
I have had the phone for about a year now (maybe a little longer). Just like you, in the beginning it worked great! Then over time it seems to get worse and worse. I *don't* use an external antenna so I think the phone goes to crap no matter what. Maybe its a resource issue. Over time the performance of reception has gotten worse, but of course over time I have done more and more to the phone. The phone seems just about fine in speed for everything else (at least it performs how I'd expect it to)....but maybe the phone/messaging software side of things sees something else on the backend that I don't.
I have WM 6.0, and was thinking 6.1 might fix it, but based on your review I will save myself the headache of upgrading at one of the stores since it won't change a thing. I am horribly displeased with this phone.
Tilt Antenna connectors
I thought I was smart, but got the two external antena connectors confused because when I upgraded from 8525 to Tilt, the CELLULAR adapter for the 8525 is the same as the GPS adapter for Tilt, and the HTC cell connector for tilt is different from that of the 8525. Not only no standardation, but no instructions to keep one from wandering down the obvious but wrong path. Spent more than a year trying to figure out why Yagi antenna, which performed well with the 8525, didn't work on the Tilt. Didn't hurt the GPS unit though which is a miracle. Does anyone know the specs on the TILT Cell antenna connector???
