Correct settings for AT&T Hampton Roads, VA - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I don't know if it matters or not but I would like to know how to set up my phone to get good reception here in VA. I just switched from Verizon and I have the TyTN II (which I love), but my reception is CRAP!!!
Is there anything I can do about it. I can get 5 bars around town and drop off at my house but the reception is somewhat bad everywhere. Help

Reception

Anyone got any comments on the reception quality of Kaisers on Orange? I am considering leaving Orange due to the rubbish reception I get with my current phone when in my house. However if I look at Orange coverage on their website it's at the highest level where I live. I am aware that sometimes reception is due to the handset. So...comments please?

Reception in Southern California?

Is there anyone here that lives in Southern California and owns a Touch Diamond? How is the reception? I did a search but nothing turned up except someone who said he "heard" california gets good reception. I'm planning to get a Diamond next week so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sorry, cant give a specific answer but I've used the phone on AT&T in the Puget Sound area and in Manhatten without problem either indoors or out. No 3G of course, but 3 or 4 bars in most places. Check out the maps on this site to see how well your carrier's various frequencies cover SoCal.

Did you download the last radio version?
It makes this phone quadruband for voice and GPRS-EDGE

Using mine in Oxnard... with the 05 radio, I get reception on par with my Q9h and better than my ELFin, TYTNII, Dash, Treo 750, and Advantage.
No 3g obviously, but EDGE works fine (actually, I prefer EDGE as it is better for my battery life and I don't "surf" with my phone).
My guess is that there is a NAM HSDPA radio in there and it is just a matter of time for it to be unlocked... or at least one can hope. =)
I live in Huntington Beach CA and own the Diamond. I am with T-Mobile and have no reception problems with the diamond.
you guys that bought your diamond(and live in the us), where did you buy it? can you give me a link? i found this one but i dont know if i should trust it: http://www.htcphonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=HTC_DIAMOND
edit: i use t-mobile and therefore dont use 3g so that doesnt matter to me.
thanks.
05 radio working great in San Jose, CA. bought mine from expansys usa
Diamond user in Garden Grove/Anaheim area. Reception is GREAT with .05 radio. Heck, my quadband Samsung U600 gets worse signal than my diamond (with .05 radio) when I'm at work (in santa ana).
Got mine from Amazon. Also... I am on AT&T.

switch from AT&T service?

I have a dilemma and I was hoping some of the senior member could give me a little feedback. I've been an ATT customer for years and today something unusual happened. I got a taste of 3g in my home area (york, PA) and it was delightful (i was giddy like a little kid with a new toy). Pretty much north, south, east and west of me has 3g, but not old york. I was about to do a speed test on my laptop, after some browsing and funking around with my phone, but then it went back to edge . I've been waiting a while for 3g access and it seems klike I'm never going to get it, so I'm considering moving to another carrier. Do you guys have any suggestions or any feedback you can give me about your carriers, (US only please).
Yes, Change carriers., Because T-Mobile JUST released 3G in New York. So your town will get it in no time.
That doesn't leave much.
Now since you are posting this in the Kaiser Section, I'm going to assume you run a Tilt. The Tilt is a GSM phone, you have two choices for GSM service. AT&T and T-Mobile. Which means AT&T, unfortunately, is your best bet.
I'm in york, Pennsylvania so that won't really help but thanks. It seems like I do have 3G because my coworkers phone says 3G now. but it keeps switching back to edge. Also is there a way to get it to say 3g instead of the little h symbol?

"H" Is 3.5G. Or more specifically If it says "H" you have better then 3G.
But to answer your question directly.
If you have Advanced Config Look in there under Data Connections for HSDPA Icon, and Disable it.
Also, don't complain to much about switching between 3G and Edge. There are some Senior Member that don't have 3G at ALL, right Scotchua?
so H is really better than 3G

Yes it is. AT&T hypes "3G" because it is a recognizable buzzword, but "H" is above 3G in speed.

Nexus 3G better than G1 now....

Okay, after the update to the Nexus my wife is getting MUCH better 3G coverage. Our house is on the edge of 3G/EDGE... I get Edge with very rare 3G... she is getting almost constant 3G (and 3 bars of it). In my work building she gets 3G and I do not.
Seems like whaever google did to the Nexus REALLY helped 3G coverage for us. HOW can we do the same for the G1.... or, what is making the difference?
Its most likely what ever it is that picks the signal up thats in the phone.
They most likely made it stronger so it could pick the signal up better.
idk if there is anything you could do to make it work on your g1...
unless you know how the hardware works in there.
I frankly know very little... but it is very obvious and I know there are folks on here with both the G1 and N1 that may be able to see the same (if they are on the edge of 3G). May not be as noticable for those in really good 3G coverage.
Is there a new radio we can load? I am very jealous of the Nexus' 3G connection in comparison to mine.
Im not sure. I dont think so but then again I wouldnt know.

The N1 has a newer, better, yada yada yada radio itself that can get better signal with less juice...
Putting the N1 radio ROM on a G1 would do nothing, except brick it, but it won't make the radio in the G1 any better... personally, I think the G1 has a damn good radio as is, though (Best I ever experienced until the N1, and that is including the new BB's and WM's). The N1 gets 1 more bar at my Dad's than my G1, which is very impressive! But the G1 getting 1-2 bars is impressive as well considering every other phone I have owned or tested got nothing unless you stood by the front door or went outside.

AT&T VS T-MOBILE which one is better!?

Hello I'm with tmobile and I liked there service until recently. My speeds have been crazy low..talking about 5MBPS down and less than 5 up. Wherever I am...even tho I'm in an "exelent " coverage area. Calls take like 5 seconds to connect sometime...happened with my note 3 too. So question is, how is AT&T compared to tmobile? I live in Denver colorado. And stupid reps tell me that 2MBPS is quote on quote Normal...does LTE work with AT&T and if so how fast?

Att is a joke. Hit up TMOBILE and tell them you are having service issues.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Dude I did...belive me I called their asses 6 times. Always the same bull and it is never fixed.

Denver is a little tough cause of the mountains, but it sounds like you need a factory reset or to Odin back to stock or to try a different modem.
Which modem are you using?
Att would not give you better service in Denver.
I just switched from att and I am really happy with tmobile. But then again tmobile has a smaller network than att. If you aren't getting signal in your area then you should change. The plans are much better on tmobile and the lte isn't throttled as I had on atts unlimited plan
My roommate got the Note 4 from ATT, I from tmo. Att didn't have stock headphones and roomy was PISSED
T-Mobile all the way. I am down in Colorado Springs (much hillier/actual mountains within city limits) and have No issues at all. It could be a tower issue near where you are. I will be up in Denver tomorrow and will do some speed tests but I am regularly in the upper 20's for speed down here in the springs.
And for those who don't know, Denver is not in the mountains, it is on the front range but is a good 15-20 miles east of any mountains.
