My Friend bought Kaiser From HTC Egypt and they sodl it with arabic ROM and disable the GPS ?! as it is not legal in egypt to use GPS up to now , is ther is any idea how to enabel the GPS with the original ROM without flashing a new ROM , I think it is need the dreiver or any GPS CAB to enable it, I tried Quick GPS , GPS Test , GPS utitiles but it can not detect the internal GPS
ROM details :
CE OS 5.2.1620 ( Build 18125.0.4.2)
ROM Version 1.81.452.0 WWE
ROM Date 10/30/07
Radio Version : 1.27.15.32
Protocol Version 22.51.88.13H
I read another thread about this recently and I think the answer was that the GPS should be enabled - but would need a ROM Flash.
But, I think that if GPS is illegal in Egypt then there may be an agreement between HTC and the government to have this permanently disabled to allow the import licence.
Hopefully, someone who has re-enabled GPS will come along and help out - I'd be interested in the answer.
thanks for your comments, I think it is a matter of driver and I still need it without Flashing a new ROM

Salaam,
unfortunately, I cannot offer you a solution, but either way, you SHOULD flash your device, the ROMs here are just so much better than any of the off. ROMs. And who knows, it just might fix your GPS prob, too.
Just my two cents.
H.
There was a big thread on the Hermes forum about enabling the internal GPS. This link (post no. 192) has a couple of WM5 & WM6 drivers attached and you may find more sources elsewhere in the thread.
Maybe worth a try if you don't want to re-flash the ROM, but I think the cooked roms will have all the drivers you need - and if they don't you can always go back to the original set-up later.
thanks to all of you ; I will try the links provided by ach 2 ( thanks ) and I will report it back
I tried the Hermes Driver but it does not work , any idea ?
again, flash one of the custom roms here. the trinity was originally sold with a gps receiver built in but it wasn't enabled at first, but subsequent rom updates brought it to life...but it was a rom update, not a driver. a driver would work for unrecognized hardware, not disabled hardware

Just out of curiosity, why are you SO averse to flashing a new ROM?
I just want to keep the original ROM for the warranty issues; and the original ROM is perfect for me
Well, you can always reflash the original ROM if you have to RMA the phone. Because otherwise, I don't think your GPS is going to come online anytime soon.

I've been doing some reading in the PPC-6800 thread because the chipsets have some similarities as far as the radio/GPS goes and far as I can tell you are in a similar situation as those users are in that without a re-flashing of the ROM, it does NOT seem possible to enable the GPS as many users of the Titan have been unsuccessfully trying already in this forum.
If I were you, I would reconsider the re-flashing process as it has been proved to be reversible in case you need to do a warranty return. Otherwise, it looks as though you will have to stick with your stock ROM, which seems less than "perfect" for you as it has NO GPS.
Also, have you experienced any re-flashed ROM's firsthand? It seems hard to make a judgment call about the relative perfection of a ROM without having something to which you can compare. Just an opinion...
thanks, you are right , I will flashy dutty new Rom Now, thanks for your support
so why is GPS illegal in Egypt?
As the Official statement says it is not allowed to import any GPS devices; Even Nokia E90 Communicator & N95 but nobody knows why ; sometimes they said it is a national Security issues ; but the fact is that the GPS devices including E90 & N95 are being sold at the Grey Market ! from Dubai

Don't forget that after you flash and set-up your rom, DON'T be impatient with setting up your GPS. It can take quite a while to get the first fix. I don't know what GPS software you plan to use but there are a couple of GPS test utilities which should help.
I'd advise the following for first set-up.
1. Go somewhere where your phone has a clear, unobstructed view of the sky - no buildings if possible (definately not near a military establishment )
2. Run QuickGPS. (Probably built into the rom).
3. Download and run either GPSTest or VisualGPSCE to see if you get a fix. GPStest should auto find your GPS com port and baud rate. VisualGPSCE needs to be set (probably com4 and 4800 or 9600 baud).
4. Start one of the above programs, put the phone down and go for a cup of tea - the first GPS fix can take some time (Some people report 30 or even 60 minutes).
Good luck and let us know if you get your GPS running so others can learn from your experience.
thanks ach2
Dear Ach2 thanks for your kind support ; I will do it today after working time at home , thanks again for your kind support
Hi I am a newbee also
I am planning to buy the HTC TYTN II from Egypt and i had heard about the GPS problem being disabled in the Original ROM.
i guessed that the drivers will not work as mentioned
in the post,

Since the Rom provided disables the GPS Panel, the drivers will not find the hardware to make it recognizable.
I have 4 questions:
1- how can i do a full backup even of the rom supplied with the Kaiser originally.
2- emad.ibrahim, can you keep us updated here with how the gps will work after you do a reflash, and its performance.
3- what ROM are you using, and what are its major flaws if you found one, i heard the Dutty's Rom v2 is gr8 with a lot of fixed issues, little space consumption, gr8 number of added applications, but i am still not sure of its flaws. Can some1 also mention it here.
4- do the ROMs come with windows mobile installed, or is it something seperate?
thnx a lot for your cooperation.
emad.ibrahim, how is everything going after the new flash.
1. how did you flash your device.
2. what rom did you use?
3. how is the stability of the device after you had flashed it for the 1st time?
4. are you planning to discover and test other roms later on?
5. did the gps work? --> i could help you later on with some applications for egypt maps, and programs.
hope to hear from you soon.

Hello, I just would like to give a feedback of my usage of the last HTC 6.1 ROM.
The good thing :
- HTC Dialer is a lot faster than the 6.0 dialer (Thanks god !!!). But I guess I could use it with the old HTC 6.0 ROM.
The bad things :
- For IGO 8 to work I need to disable the "HTC Home", the "A-GPS" feature, and soft reset my device !!!! That means I won't use IGO 8 anymore, and that was my favorite GPS application.
- SPB Backup does not work anymore
- NO CAMERA IMPROVEMENT : still the same ****, slow and blurry.
- Performance issues with my SDHC card : all read/writes done from the Kaiser to the SDHC card are very very very slow.
- my device freezes all the time !!! I have to wait for 10-20 seconds before I can use it again. EDIT : since I stoped using "Quick Menu" this, problem disapeared ... So another usefull application I can't use anymore !
- performances are lower !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just talk about using the device, the way it displays the menus, the way applications come to the screen, it's really slower than the original HTC 6.0 ROM I had !!!!
So one more time, HTC shows how they deal with their customers :
"don't worry, we will make an update with performances improvements" ...
instead the performances have decreased, absolutly nothing have been improved, and I meet a lot of compatibility problems !!!!!!!
So think twice before installing this f***ing ROM !!!!
How can HTC put on the market such an unfinished/untested product ???!!!!
I just realized they just did the same with the Kaiser ...
Hi,downgrade to wm6 because my pda became crazy !
Same thing : my official microsd card with Nav and Go doesn't work, and the rest too.We must say a big thanks to HTC !!!
Please then, do not use the HTC Rom. We have a lot of Very Good Chefs that will make your problems go away. (If you ask them nicely0

Hi,
Did you pull off the microsd before upgrading ?(perhaps the upgrade process
corrupted the card)
Perhaps you could try (trial period) pocket mechanics pro(from wizzcode)
to reformat your sd+scandisk , it is a very reliable soft.
I had a worry to upgrade the official rom with vista, so i had to make the upgrade with a winxp desktop.
For time being, i found an improvement in the sound volume(phone usage)
and my bluetooth earpiece(nearly inaudible before).
Some softs are faster when launching(P.M.Pro for example) and sprite backup
(i upgraded from the light edition to the full one 6.22) works well under wm6.1.
But for the rotation screen when sliding the keyboard, i didnt notice any
progress.(i dont watch movies/videos on my kaiser, so unable to tell if it is better)
The only bad and good thing when upgrading:
i wasnt able to restore all my softs with my backup(some registry bugs)
so i had to reinstall all (tomtom6, sprite,netfront,pocket informant,etc)
boring but it has the advantage to start from fresh install.
One problem, windows mobile center(under vista) has some difficulties to
synchronize my kaiser.(i had to do some "menage" in my outlook 2002 appointments).
regards from France

I think that we must all realize that in this day and age of " give me more now" software development we have seen the last, long ago, of the finished, polished , stable software release. Look at Vista and Leopard and the such. Both operating systems were beseiged by bugs and incompatabilities. Vista is getting better but still crap.
We are going to have to get used to getting Beta versions of everything. Yes, HTC makes the bulk of their money off of hardware. As unacceptable as it might seem they are not going to spend millions in R and D and beta testing on upgrades they give away for free. Perhaps if we were willing to pay $100 or $200 or so for a software upgrade, like Vista or Leopard we would get a better finished product, or not. Everyone still got a beta of Vista.
My point is , this is it . We wanted it now. We wanted it free. We got the Beta. We tested it , it sucks ,give them the feed back and push for patches. Unacceptable ? Yes but, like the current gas prices, it is the reality of the situation.
Yes,i remove each time sim card and memory card before flashing.I think i'm not alone to have problems with french update ( cf french forum ) .I've downgraded with wm6 and everything works fine again .
reading through the frustrating experiences makes me feel better. so i am no alone. how absolutely unprofessional of htc. i hope palm comes out with its new OS quickly. my windows mobile adventure is eating up my time.
how can i downgrade again?
i need the original 6.0 Ger rom
Hi,
Sorry for the slight variation on topic, but I just logged into my HTC E-club and could not find the WM6.1 Update, am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.
Same issues for me as you folks. I dumped it like the smelly crap it is and reloaded with dutty's hybrid. This one I'm diggin'.Very stable, awesome actually.

it seems most of your issues are compatibility with applications. shouldn't you be complaining to the developers about these? I'm sure they will fix those up to make them run smoothly with 6.1, I don't think it's fair to blame HTC for application incompatibility with a *new* OS.
maybe do an HR and see if you still have issues [except the driver issue because we all know they didn't fix that]
sometimes it's good to wait for apps/devs to catch up before updating to ensure that your apps a working well with your new OS.
just my 2 cents. peace
Guys, a little help please...
I need to downgrade to WM6.0.
Where can I get the official Portuguese ROM for KAISER???
Thanks in advance

I disagree with what you say. Most of the Windows Mobile 5.0 applications were working on the WM 6.0. I never loosed so many applications (and I didn't try all of them yet) with an update which is not supposed to be a major update (6.0 to 6.1).
My biggest issue is the IGO 8 application which does not work because of an HTC application : HTC Home.
So now, if I want to run IGO 8, I must disable some tabs of HTC Home (contacts, weather, music ...) which were essential to me.
When I bought my Kaiser, I also bought HTC home which I cannot use now.
I also noticed that since I installed 6.1, HTC home does slow down my device and is responsible for some freezes of it. If I remove HTC home from the today screen, no freezes !
So this is definitly an HTC problem !
Firstly, this is not an HTC problem. It is a Windows Mobile (Microsoft) problem.
Every device is different.
What works well on mine, might not work on yours for obvious reasons.
Folks are quick to criticise HTC because they don't know any better or don't understand the problem.
Why "upgrade" to wm 6.1? wm 6.0 works perfectly well.
And btw, Vista is NOT crap. I have been using Vista Business for over a year now without problems. You really just need to figure things out.
Don't fix it if it aint broke.
Guys thanks a lot!! I intended to upgrade to the official ROM, but now I stay with Dutty's.
It saves me a lot of time.

1) "HTC Home" IS an HTC product... And it is the source of a lot of problems in the 6.1 ROM (just read what I wrote).
2) Why upgrading to 6.1 : because HTC said the performances will be increased. And the performances where an issue in 6.0 (and still are in 6.1).
I waited for an upgrade, seems like I got an downgrade. Device with this big price tag should perform well out of the box.
This is what i think.

allright... I've done downgrading to latest wwe 6.0.
6.1 is a real crap- do not let some ppl fool You- there is no speed gain at all.
what more, it's slower than ever.
simple tests: I have opened a web page in opera mini on both 6.0 (stock t-mob and latest wwe) and 6.1 (stock wwe, plk and leo's diamond v2) and guess what- on 6.0 scrolling is smooth on 6.1 visible screen tearing occurs.
second test was 3 minutes of doom2 e1m1- again, visible and annoying screen tearing on 6.1. no fps gained at all.
the other thing is that 6.1 doesn't support card export II and have many other more or less irritating bugs.
I am seriously considering swapping my Vario III for N95 8GB, but still hesitating. with tweaked 6.0 it is a quite nice machine, qwerty keyboard is a big + aswell... I dunno. I shall see...
anyway- br and good luck to all with their devices.
bro
Just chiming in with my $0.02 worth, that the 6.1 upgrade works fine for me. I'm only running very minimal 3rd party apps (aside from TomTom), so compatibility hasn't been a problem for me.
The RF quality of the phone seems much-improved, I don't notice (without benchmarking tools) a big perceptible speed difference from a user's point of view.
hi,
what are the differences between the offical uk r2aa008 and the r2aa010 roms?
not a huge amount if you windiff them.. But enough to make R10 a little bit quicker.
i got r2aa008 installed at mo. i know it has a newer radio but not sure if its worth waiting till r3 comes out as it ok on speed at the mo.
does the radio make a difference? in cellphone (mobile phone) signal?
I just updated radio , from R2A to latest , just to see any changes , everything looks the same , signal , batery , its OK , but no change for me .
Its working as nice as before .
I actually did notice some difference signalwise, when i made this update a while back. I spend a lot of time in an area where there is a constant shift between 3G and 2G and after the update I now rarely loose the 3G signal, before I had to be in a ceratin spot in the room to catch it.

TBH, R2AA008 is slower than R2AA010, however, I've noticed a few glitches in v10, i.e. screen tearing after using QTv functions, as well as sometimes mo hangs for a bit... I did only a few tweaks, same as I did on v08. There was no such problem on that version.
Cannot wait enough to get my hands on R3
i upgraded my rom yesterday (lots of probs restoring backup) to find that it says i still have not got the latest radio.
so i will have to hardspl to put the latest radio on. i too cant wait for the r3 firmware.
What I found different between R2AA008 and R2AA010:
1. Touchflo scrolling smoother.
2. Speed seems to be a bit faster.
3. Bluetooth headphone is more stable (BT connection with headphone disconnected very often after the phone call in R2AA008)
4. Panel Manager is much smoother and quickier.
5. Have to reset about 2 or 3 times a week with R2AA008 and about once in 2 weeks with R2AA010).
6. Less touch screen driver crashes (R2AA008 has many touch screen driver crashes - can't touch anything and have to reset the device).

1. using the b3 cab of mainia, did not improve in anyway with upgrade.
2. think your right here.
3. dont use bluetooth handphone.
4. im using the new panel manager, no real changes.
5. never had to reset the phone much on any rom.
6. never had that prob.
i only really upgrade to get the new radio and everything else was extra but now have to upgrade radio separate with means hardspl (what i did not really want to do).
TouchFlo scrolling dies not have anything to do with Manila in this case...it's just the ability to scroll with your finger in any app...
the new radio .71 that i upgraded to (as .76 suppost to be not as good) seems to be good so far. although my signal has not improved, it does not seem to lose signal for no reason like the old one did.

Yeah, That's right. It is a scrolling feature in all programs. One thing annoying though, can't disable it for specific programs like in Ftouchflo. My favourite Phatpad software is not working well.
I tried to disable with class name but don't seem to work. HTC should have a config program for this. They have it what..? Only sound on/off.

Yes, it is. Very useful but very annoying too when you want to use note taking and drawing applications.
But buitt-in note program is fine. When SIP is active the scrolling didn't kick in.
Hello there,
I bought a week ago a second hand kaiser, and i noticed that it already had the hyper dragon IV lite rom flashed, so i told myself, all the hard work is done, go try some custom roms.
And I did, there was some lite ones, some plenty of softwares, some 6.5, but the thing i want from this phone is: THE GPS and the MP3 player, thos are the most important things for me, since i am all the time moving here and there, i really need them.
So, in order to be a more independant guy, i searched, and i searched again, i found some useful threads that made my gps work (because it almost wasn't working i bought it), and some others that made GPSTest display high bars on gps detecting but no fix at all (it also screwed my signal, and fu**** up my camera, and that's bad), all that by changing radio roms and trying.
And well i am very tired of trying again and again, feel just like if i was stuck in the middle of nowhere.
So, my questions:
Does the gps really work better on 6.0wm than the 6.1 and 6.5?
Does the gps really work better on stock roms than cooked ones?
Does the quickgps software really improve the speed to get a FIX?
How long are the bars your devices display when you activate your GPSTest soft? (i'm having a quarter max, and when i say a quarter, it is really the down limit of the quarter, it rarely go upper)
I have a tomtom 7.450 soft, and this thing is all the time saying bad gps reception (sometimes it even end up screaming no gps harware), is it normal?
So what software do you use for navigation?
I really don't care about cooked roms optimisations, fast and everything and all that, i want to be able to answer and emit calls, receive and send SMS, write some notes from time to time, and make GPS working great, wanna have a super fast fix.
I'm living at Brussel in belgium, living in the 5th floor, and testing my gps close to window, or i go to a parc 10 minutes away from home.
I am ready to try almost everything that can guis ALL of US to have a better GPS!
This works for me.

As I charge my TyTN II by putting it to bed in its cradle every night (which is connected via USB to my PC on the internet), it automatically updates its QuickGPS data so it's hardly ever more than a day old any way. Often times during a day while I've got an active data connection I'll also manually initiate a QuickGPS download. Interestingly, the HTC Official WM 6.1 'update' for my TyTN II broke this feature and QuickGPS wouldn't automatically update when plugged into its cradle - even manual updates didn't make a difference though as far as WM 6.1 was concerned.

I have version 6.032 which came with my HTC Branded TyTN II on an accompanying CDROM. It's still avail for purchase although for some crazy reason TomTom wont sell version 7 or even an upgrade to it so there's no official way to buy it except for on the devices it comes with. If you get hold of version 6 from TomTom on a device kitted out as per mine, it will work and work well - unless you have lead lined walls and heat reflective film on your windows in which case you'll only get good performance outside.

Similar priorities to me, the only true speed/performance related area I find important is GPS, reliability is the next preference and thats where the Radio version I'm using comes into things. I found that although 1.27.12.11 gave quick GPS fixes, sometimes when Pocket Media Player was playing a music or video file, it'd stall its playback while waiting for TomTom to get a fix. Radio version 1.27.12.32 fixes this and also gives quick GPS fixes. I have tried even newer radios (2 versions of 1.27.15.32) but alas as is with the case of many of the newer offerings, that was a step backwards in terms of GPS performance (at least here in the UK (/Europe?).
There is a section in the xda-dev wiki all about improving GPS performance if you haven't already found it.
I had tomtom 7 and the gps fix in that software was horrible for me. Even when google maps and gpstest had a good fix, tomtom would say "bad signal" or "no signal. I switched to igo which locks in after a minute and works perfectly. The other problem that could be affecting you might be the radio version. I had one radio that would make my GPS useless; it would never connect. Try changing your radios and see if that helps.

In my experience solely with Official HTC ROMs (which don't include WM 6.5 of course) yes - and by a longggg shot.
I've heard it does but they'd have to do pretty well to surpass the GPS performance and simplicity I'm getting from my current setup.

Okay, i'll try to find a stock 6.0 rom and give it a shot, do i have to flash a stock radio rom (even if don't understand how we could modify radio roms...)

And like a i said i'll give Igo a shot too
Thank you for your interest, thanks for answering me
Edit:
Just flashed back to ROM Version: 1.56.405.5
Radio: 1.27.12.32
But gpstest cannot find the gps, and it stucks on com5 while scanning
And when i close GPSTest i cant launch it again
More than enough to go on

I don't understand what you're getting at. The precise setup in my signature works really well for GPS. If you flash all those components and aren't to far away from the UK, I imagine it'll work well for you - there's no harm in trying.

I was just kidding about lead lined walls and metalised film covered windows (although many new cars these days have metalised windscreens, so if it doesn't work in your car that may be why).

Thats because you've not read the relevant ROM Flashing wiki's and stickies enough to know that you must use a WM 6.0 Radio with a WM 6.0 ROM. I suggest you spend more time revising things in this area as it WILL be time well spent and you'll learn more about your device.

Well you needent. All the details of what works best (as far as stock components go) are in my sig and as Belgium isn't far from the UK, I cant see why it shouldn't work well for you also

You did read the part in the wiki about making sure you have a WM 6.0 compatible SPL version didn't you (SPL questions? section covers it well). Again, you need ALL the bits in my sig (note that I don't need or use GPStest under this WM 6.0 setup). I cant say how it'll go with other than TomTom 6 as thats all I've used apart from Google Maps which also works very well on this setup - you might want to try the free Google Maps for testing purposes if you have a data package from your network provider.
I got my current setup by flashing hardSPL 1 then the complete ROM shown in my sig (which came with 1.27.12.11 Radio originally) then upgrading the radio to 1.27.12.32, then flashing the HTC 1.93 spl (this last step shouldn't be necessary though if you think you'll be doing more flashing).
I'm using the official WM6.1 and the GPS lock is horrible. I can see it getting signal from a number of sats but it can take 10minutes to lock in sometimes. I've read some threads on the subject, and have tried Quick GPS and have aGPS off, but neither guarantees a quick lock.
I seem to recall WM6.0 was better but it was also using a different radio then as well.
Anyway, sorry nothing I can offer to help.

I agree, short of trying a custom WM 6.1 ROM, with no guarantee of success or installing third party apps to 'help' the GPS work properly, IMO WM 6.1 is a lost cause as far as GPS is concerned.
I had the same problems with the GPS, what I've found to work is using a program called GPSToday. there are 2 programs, one is a today plugin, and the other is a program. I use the program, and it really makes a difference for me. If you do a search in the Kaiser software forum, you will find more information about it. I use it with TomTom software, i start GPS today a min or 2 before i start tomtom and i get a fix right away.

Great News from Here
I Managed to get my phone configured exactly like yours, and god! It is damnly fast, i got my first fix within seconds, its almost unbelievable !
I had it configured like that when you first advised, but i forgot to downgrade spl, i suppose that was the cause of the malfunctioning.
I really recommend to everyone who have the same priorities, to flash back to Flying Kiwi settings:
ROM Version: 1.56.405.5
ROM Date: 08/28/07
Radio: 1.27.12.32 (better than 1.27.12.11 with WMP)
Protocol: 22.45.88.07H
SPL: 1.93

For the 1.27.12.32 radio: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Radio
Man, you really were very helpful, thank you very very very much, and my kaiser is even faster with this settings.
If i can help by anyway send a pm please
This post should be made sticky for future information!
EDIT:
I have to Warn you Guys: In order to have the GPS working you have to follow this procedure:
Flash the 1.56.405.5 rom and then flash the 1.27.12.32 radio rom, and finally flash the SPL, otherwise GPS will not work, i just tested that
Did the Wm6.0 up/downgrade also resolve the precission of the GPS?
Iam now on WM6.1 WWE with radio 1.70.19.09 and hardSPL 3.56 with a realy fast GPS fix within 30 secs. no problems with that
But the problem is that I mention a little lag kind of thing when navigation with TT7 in my car. The Tomtom arrow is little bit behind with the reality it is usable though but if i connect it to an external sirfIII gps mouse it is more accurate.
So I wonder if you guys also have a slight GPS lag with WM6.0...
in Tomtom
Well, I am using a custom 6.1 rom now, And I must say. 6.1 is the best windows mobile for me right now. But, at the radio list there are radio's sorted for wm 6.1 and 6.0, And I installed a 6.0 radio on my wm 6.1.. Now I have a gps fix in 6 seconds, wich I will never have with a 6.1 Radio. Isn't it possible to get a 6.0 Radio getting fully working on a 6.1 rom? Cause I don't have sound and camera won't work now. But I like the fast GPS fix.

Not without developing new audio and camera drivers to suit the old radio (assuming that was possible), then making a new ROM with them. I know what you're getting at because I use GPS alot as well. I've gone back to a WM 6.0 ROM with my preferred Radio and GPS is as good as ever. Although I've not checked out many custom 6.1 ROMs, I found the official HTC 6.1 ROM had many other bugs aside from breaking GPS, things like not coming out of power saving mode on the first press of the power button, ringtones switching off without being told to do so and occasional periods of non-responsiveness. While 6.0 is slower in many ways, GPS is not one of them and at least things work reliably. It does mean you cant take advantage of the graphics accelerations drivers that have been developed here on xda-dev though

indeed, thats why I want something so my gps gets an almost instant fix, but whatever Radio I try on wm 6.1 and 6.5, it doesn't work. Al through I do use 6.1 now, I think thats faster then 6.5, I also don't like the menu in 6.5. But still I hear people saying that they get a really fast fix in wm 6.5/6.1. Thats why I am asking.

Fast GPS sattelite lock relative to what? Surely not a WM 6.0 setup or I want to see it with my own eyes before believing it
I've yet to hear any users of WM 6.1 or 6.5 claim (and substantiate) GPS locking is faster than with the equivalent, correctly set up 'original' WM 6.0 setup. The only times I managed to get what some may consider to be fast GPS lock times when testing WM 6.1 ROMs was if TomTom Navigator had previously been running just before I (re)started Navigator and definitely not if I was on the move at the time. I get the impression HTC somehow reduced the power of the GPS functioning in later radios and even the later WM 6.0 Radios (such as 1.27.15.32R2) offered poorer GPS performance for me than older WM 6.0 versions such as 1.27.12.11 and 1.27.12.32.
I'd love to get to the bottom of what HTC did with the radio's over that time and why. My hunch is that it was an effort to reduce battery consumption by effectively starving those parts that used the most power - a bit like putting a tap in the fuel line on a car and partly closing it, either that or they reduced the amount of CPU resources allocated to GPS some other way. I think I'd have more luck breaking into Fort Knox than extracting that info from HTC and more to the point when I complained about it to them, they wouldn't listen and fix it. Their soluition under warranty was to revert my TyTN II back to Windows 6.0 (with a slightly newer Radio - the one I use now in my sig). Unlike other companies such as Intel that provide info on what new BIOS revisions fix, HTC don't seem to provide this information in sufficient detail for Radio revisions.
