Connection to the Internet throug Activesync and Proxy - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi,
now finaly i've got my kaiser.
On my office PC I've installed Active Sync 4.5 but now my problem.
I'll tried to download the latest Virus Scanner defintion file, but can't reach the Internet through my activesync connection.
The Problem is that my office pc needs to connect through a proxy. Does anybody have an idea how to tell active sync or my device to use the proxyserver if i'm connected by active sync to access the internet?
Kind Regards
Seppl

Does nobody have such a problem, or isn't here a possiblity

I used to connect to my office network normally but now they have changed something and it keep on asking my user and password for proxy access but even after I input correct uid/pwd/domain (which i use for desktop) it failed authentication ....any clues how to resolve this??

I have the same problem , if I try to autenticate with my factory proxy and I insert domain\username and in the next windows the password I receive a error message.
Someone have suggestions about ?
Regards
Benni

Internet PassThrough doesn't work with ActiveSync 4.5.
You need to adjust a registry key on your client (not phone) to enable it.
See topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317748
LSP registry fix.

simple solution for proxy connections
Hi all,
just do this:
uncheck the box in start menu-->settings-->connections->USB to PC-->Advanced network....
Go to:
start menu-->settings-->connections->connections->advanced->Select Network->My work...
and edit the proxy settings and add your proxy : port to HTTP protocol and it should be working(If you have your USB->ActiveSync 4.5 cable connected )

Connect Laptop to internet thru MDA

Hi,
Just got MDA with t-mobile web, 5.99/month, two week ago and still playing around. Does anyone know how to connect the laptop to internet by using this mda and without paying $30 for total internet?
You can use the T-Zones connection for your laptop also.
Here's what you should do:
Install the modem link software on your laptop (should be on the included disk that came with the MDA)
Activate the modem link on the MDA
Then connect to a USB port
Create a new dialup connection selecting the HTC modem
Name it whatever you want
Dial Number *99#
Leave the username and password blank
You will also have to use the proxy settings in internet exploxer, use the same settings you used for the MDA to get the full internet
One more thing always make sure you connect your MDA before opening your browser or it will detect the laptops default modem instead of the HTC
Modem Link Software
Can someone post the Modem Link Software? I have lost my disk and really want to use the mda for my lappie.

I posted the file on a blog, you can get it here.
http://my.opera.com/mlh1962/blog/
Where do i place the "USBMDM.INF" on win xp?
You should be able to place it anywhere (desktop, my documents) then:
activate the modem link on the PPC and connect to an USB port. XP should then tell you it has found a new device and will look for the driver. If it doesn't find it you should be given the option to locate it yourself.
If this doen't work I'll uninstall mine and walk through the steps again to see if I have forgotten something.
Good Luck!
When you activate Modem Link on the PPC make sure the connection is USB not IrCOMM. The access point should already have wap.voicestream.com entered.

I created a new dial up connection thru HTC USB. i leave the username and password blank and dial to *99# but it still doesn't work. I got an error 692 (There were a hardware failure in the modem for other connection device).
You mention about setting up proxy on internet explorer. How could I do that? thanks
I'm not sure about the error, never have gotten that. As for the proxy settings, once your connection is set up in explorer go to Tools-Internet Options-Connection tab and then select settings for your connection. Check the box that says Use proxy settings and enter the same settings you used when setting up your PPC to access the internet with the T-Zones account.
I'm getting ready to leave for work and will try to check the error message when I get back home.
I am getting "Remote Access Error 734". I just set my proxy settings Firefox and now it gives me "Remote Access Error 678".
Here's a link to a site that tells what the dial up networking codes mean. http://www.modemsite.com/56k/dunserror.asp
Also here's another site that gives instructions for setting up a connection. http://www.mypdacafe.com/articles.php?id=216
I'll keep looking for a solution.

One thing I woul like to add is that when I connect my MDA to the laptop, the gprs icon(MDA) has an X through it. I have also never been able to connect to my outlook email (mail2web) while plugged in with USB. It always gives me a connection error. As soon as I unplug it, it d/l's all the messages. I also looked at the above link and there were people getting the same 734 error.

The X on mine always means there is no signal availible, I don't use mail2web. I'll write down my setup from start to finish and try to get it posted as soon as posible.

Kaiser not accessing net through my pc

AFAIK the kaiser should use my home net connection when synched with my PC right?
I remember when I was setting up / installing that I ticked some kind of box to not use hosts net conn when attached via USB (God knows why I did, I knew it was a bad idea after i hit OK...) but I don't remember where I set it.
I have looked around and can't seem to find any setting like that - any ideas?
if i'm not mistaken, that's a setting you need to change when you DON'T have your device connected to your pc.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
Hmm, that reg entry didn't seem to do it. I still can't access the net on my mobile through my pc.
its a setting in activesync/Mobile Device center, you will know it when you see it
In activesync go to file-->connection settings...--> and uncheck the allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop and your phone should stop using gprs instead of activesync to connect to the net when your connected.
hmm I still can't get a Internet connection through my computer! Does someone else still have the same problem?
Geko
Same problem here. I have the latests ActiveSync....I have "The Internet" selected as what my PC connect to in ActiveSync. I have un-checked "Allow Wireless Connection" - and still nothing. The phone won't sync with my Exchange server when connected to my PC....very annoying because the phone lags behind my 'real' schedule as a result!
Anyone?

Go check your router and/or firewall settings....
Your Kaiser should have it's own IP adres cause syncing is a network-based affair these days, so this might cause the problem in your network setup...
Check Settings/USB to PC ; change the Enable advanced network functionality, and try again. Happend to me in Vista, and after messing with this setting Windows Update downloaded latest driver for HTC and fixed the problem. (As i remember you can change it back afterwards, if it solves your problem).
thanks for all the help so far guys.
It definately seems to be an issue with activesync (ie the desktop PC) because when I connect to my PC here at work, it is all fine.

Thanks darkilici...!! I un-checked "advanced network functionality" under Seettings, Connections, USB-to-PC, and when I plugged my TyTn II back into my PC - it "found" the device again, re-loaded the driver, and now I am accessing the Internet on my TyTn II through my PC! Thanks......HUGE!
Much appreciated.
Unchecking it caused my phone to be able to use wireless while synched - thanks!
But if I tick it again, it goes back to how it was.
The error I am getting is:
"The page you are looking for cannot be found due to error 0x80072f78"
Even with it unticked, it's not really what I want. I want it to use my much faster broadband connection while tethered...
I think I may do a hard reset.
I forgot to ask, by any chance are you on T-Mobile (or any network that requires a proxy to access the net over GPRS)? If you are, then you have to disable the proxy server to be able to access the net over activesync.
Yes, I am on T-Mobile with Web n Walk.
Do you mean the one in "Connections"?
I removed that proxy tickbox and it seems to work now. Do I not need the proxy? What is it for? Cacheing? Or is it only to enforce the "No adult content sites" block? (Which I have removed so I can access facebook)
Thanks ever so much!
I'm on t-mobile in the US and I have to have the proxy to access the net over GPRS or it won't work at all. I'm not sure about if you need the proxy in the UK or not, but the easiest way to find out is to try to access the net over GPRS without the proxy and see if it works or not. If it doesn't the it would probably be easier for you to set up a second connection, the first with the proxy the way you already have it set up and then a second that has the same settings as the first only without the proxy settings. Then, just switch between the 2 when needed. Unfortunately that's the simplest way to do it that I have found.
Hmm, I'm actually looking for something like this, but not. Anyone know of a way to make it use AT&T's internet while connected to a computer with ActiveSync? That registry tweak works great for when I'm at home, but when I'm at work or something, I may want to use my phone's internet (GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA). I have a program that lets me control my kaiser from a computer (MyMobiler), but it needs activesync. If I have Activesync, I have to use my work internet (which I don't want to do). Hopefully that makes sense.. Any ideas?
internet sharing tool and enable/disable cabs
yea, that should do the trick since it's been the same when i had a hermes

Help with Activesync

I am having a problem that when i connect my phone to my work PC my media net 3g quits working.
I have changed the option in advanced connections, server selection, to use media net on both options but i am still getting no 3g/edge etc. Everytime i sync my phone it tries to use my PC connection as the active internet source.
What i want is to have my phone synced but still use my phones 3g internet on the phone and my LAN for my PC.
Can anybody help me figure out why my phone's internet is replaced by my PC's?
Thanks!
Under "Connection Settings" do you have the box checked that says, "Allow wireless connetion on device when connected to the desktop"?
Yes i do. And when i partnered with active sync i selected the option to allow internet calling etc.
It has to be a background issue. Afaik all the options are correct.
After a little further reasearch it appears that when i connect my phone to the computer the proxy server is changed to my work proxy. If i over ride it to the correct cingular proxy it still does not work.
Any help on this? It's getting annoying. It worked fine for a week then just quit working.

WLAN ok, but no websites are shown.

That's why I've never had an Windows Mobile device before.
Symbian, iPhone, everthing works fine with my WLAN. WPA Key and go go go
My Kaiser has a WLAN connection but the IE wont' show any page. Why?
First thing is to isolate the problem. Are you able to access the internet via Actice Sync? When connected to the WLAN are you able to access any other services on the internet such as windows live to check your email or if you have HTC HOME the weather info?
Also check to make sure you are getting a proper IP address, Gateway, and DNS server from the router to your PPC. Task Manager is a good utility which lets you run the Ipconfig/all command. You can also use the PING command in Task Manager to see if you can ping anything on the internet.
If you are getting the proper TCP/IP settings trying accessing a site using its IP address instead of its Domain Name to islolate if the problem is with the DNS server settings in PPC.
If still no luck post the results from the above troubleshooting and we'll go from there.
Correct IP Address, check! I forgot to mention...
Thank's for your help, I'll check the steps in the evening at home.^^
I just can connect to my router's IP address and see the configuration page. My device has it's own static IP.
IE says "site cannot be displayed, because the connection has been interrupted".
Do I have to quit HSPDA and Bluetooth? I guess not.
Let me know if you can connect to this http://134.126.10.50/

No, same error.
Surfing via ActiveSync is no problem.
If you said that it's possible to connect to router but not outside of router, then do you use MAC Access Control and/or MAC Fillter Internet Firewall on your router?
Possibility MAC Filter Internet Firewall. Without MAC Access Control specified, it's not possible to connect to router.
Hopefully it helps.
Best regards,
TwoAce
I'm using a MAC Filter, but the MAC of my Kaiser has been written to the MAC list. I'm trying without the filter...
Previously I could connect to my home WLAN, but I could not perform any surfing until I came across a suggestion to goto Settings->Wireless LAN->Power Mode slide to Best Performance.. and viola.. I am good to go..
don't know if you have the same issue, but jus my 2 cents.. ohh n I was using Polaris aka Touch Cruise..
I have the same problem as [email protected] has - the root cause may or may not be the same however. Here is what I found in my case -
(i) Connecting to WLAN - no probems, works every time
(ii) While connected to WLAN, sending/receiving emails through my exchange server or browsing my company's intranet site - no problem
(iii) Surfing internet while connected through USB cable/active sync - no problem
(iv) Can't connect to any internet site while connected to WLAN
I found that when connected through USB Cable/active sync - the proxy server address seen when I go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Edit proxy server is the correct company proxy server address. The moment I connect to WLAN - this field becomes blank. Even if I edit and insert the correct address, it doesn't stick. The moment I disconnet from WLAN and go and check the proxy server address - again it shows the correct address. So the root cause of the problem seems to be that something is wiping out the correct proxy address while I am connected to the WLAN.
I remember seeing a thread somewhere discussing this vanishing proxy settings problem. I wasn't able to find it today but I intend looking again when I get an hour or so.
I agree with roomer11 about the power settings, i have two HTC tytn ii's and i had the same problem with both(one mine, one is my wife's)...i'm running wpa2-psk now but does it on wep too...
It work's.
I have deactivated the MAC filtering. I doesn't make any sense, because the MAC I've entered is the right one, but ok. Must be a Windows Mobile voodoo thing.

403 Error While Connected to ActiveSync

For some reason I dont seem to be able to browse web via my mobile browser while device is connected to Activesync (USB cable)
I've checked Allow Wireless Connection and disabled high speed syncing in Conenctions USB>PC on my Xperia.
This affects email and internet data connections and apps. In internet explorer and IRIS I get a 403 error.
I have activesync as "Computer connects to Work Network"
When I disconnect from Activesync I can browse as normal.
Having gone through the usual suspects and done a search I can't seem to find anything that addresses this particular iteration of the 403 error so would gratefully accept any suggest
You don't need the "Allow Wireless Connection when connected to the desktop" ticked. (Unless you want to use WiFi on the X1 while plugged in via ActiveSync).
My ActiveSync "This computer connects to" is set to "The internet", not Work Internet.
Allow USB connections.
On the X1,
Got to Settings, Connections Tab, USB to PC.
Make sure ActiveSync (Sync with outlook) is selected, then make sure "Enable advanced network functionality" it ticked.
cheers for your reply Steve. (good collection of apps too)
These are all options I've tried already (think I've tried every combi) and I end up with the same result - as i get not data connection when i connect the USB. If I open IE or IRIS beforehand and then connect as soon as I browse a new page I get the 403.
I'm sure this didnt happen last time I tried to browse this way but have no idea what could have changed. I thought it could be a connection settings thing - IRIS has loads of options for connections and I've tried all of this, all unsuccessfully. IE doesn't appear to have any options.
Anyone know of any tweaks or reg fixes?
duplicate post
one other thing - if I go to conenction amanger and try to activate Data connection while conencted to activesync, I get sent to the Settings > Connections screen. Data connection will not activate.
I can't offer anymore help Don't know what's up with yours.
cheers anyway steve. gonna wager on a reinstall of activesync and also try on my home pc to see if this is any different.
I know GP can block using device as modem/internet sharing, but this would be different so who knows?
interestingly I've just discovered that I'm still receiving emails when this problem occurs. I wonder if something could be preventing http requests?
just to recap, this works when synced with my home PC, but when synced with my works PC I can't access http via 3g/hsdpa, nor through the PC. I can however receive emails.
As the attachment shows, the phone is connected to the HSDPA and Activesync via USB.
I've reinstalled Activesync on this PC, and experienced an intermittent connection following this - however following this short period of activity the connection halted again.
