MDA Vario III TomTom6 and Spb PocketPlus 4 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

All,
I have a vario III and have a couple of questions.
1. I have installed spb pocket plus 4 and would like to have a shortcut that simply put the phone into vibrate mode and another shortcut that out the phone into full volume - is this possible?
2. Whenever I use TomTom6 and exit the program the volume is always re-set to off why is this and how can I make it so the volume is always maximum?
Thanks
Msuk

1. I think you might be able to do it using one of the icons for settings. I'm not sure since SPB P+ 4 has a bug for the HTC model of the Vario. BUt I rememeber when I ran it on my I-mate Jam there was something in the settings that would allow me to do it.
If I also rememeber correctly you should be able to map the close button (the one in the upper right corner) to do it as well.
2. If I remember correctly there was a bug with the TT6 app that made you have to turn on the sound everytime you booted up TT6. I had the same problem and after a little research that is what I came up with. I don't think anyone has found the fix yet.

HELP! My BA's button are mess up

Hi experts, I was using ArtZ's Widcomm WM5 rom and radio 1.15 for a week with no problem. I think after I uninstall the HTC SmartDial and problems came up. The Answer(Green Phone Button), Hang up(Red Phone) buttons and D-pad including action button in the center of d-pad are not functioning as they should. When I press answer button in WM5, first start menu, contact and calender all pop-up. The rest of the buttons including D-pad starts different programs. I tried to reflash to Ivan's WM5 rom and downgrade to WM2003, but the buttons still won't function properly. Help, I can't even answer the phone or hang up using buttons.
YEAH! FIXED itself.
I took out the battery and leave it over night while the backup runs out. I put back the main battery and buttons works again. It is nice to map the Answer button to voice activate or something else. Does anyone knows how the change the phone buttons or D-pad to some other functions?

Device Lock

On my old XDA Mini S (Wizard) I used a tool called "Device Lock" to lock my phone. This was good because it would lock with whatever was open at the time, e.g. Pocket Memory Map, still open.
On my MDA Vario III the built-in lock (hold in the red phone button) puts the Today screen back on. Is there a registry hack that can stop this, or do I need to install a third-party like Device Lock again ?
Thanks

Do you mean the option on the home screen?
If you go to Start > Settings > Today and select the 'Items' tab it should be there, make sure it is ticked and that should restore it to the home screen. It isn't enabled as default on the Vario III (My version at least!).
The WM6 lock works just fine, but I would like it to lock with whatever is on the screen at the time continuing to be displayed whilst locked.
At the moment the lock will revert to the Today page and lock.
Sorry if I'm not being very clear!

BatteryStatus (and a few other) can do something like that. You power off the phone and when you power on again it locks automatically. And it will allow you to stay in whatever app is up on the display.
The disadvantage with BatteryStatus is that it will ALWAYS lock the phone at power on, even if the phone wakes up due to an incoming phone call. When you end the call, you have to unlock the screen first before you can hang up.
Thanks for replies.
I've got it to do what I want by installing Device Lock, then using AEBPlus to reassign a long press on the red phone button to it.

Turn off WM6 on TyTn II

I finally found a power utility to restart the device via on screen selection that looks good too. However, one other function I need it to do is shut down without having to press the side button for 5 seconds and then confirm with on screen touch.
I've read in other theads that ShutXP is meant to fully switch off the device but on my v1615 it simply switches the display off (locks the screen etc, just as if the power button was depressed momentarily).
Is there a bug with the v1615 (Vodafone branded TyTn II/Kaiser) and this tool? Does anyone else have a Kaiser and the ShutXP tool and experience this issue? Perhaps I have something else installed which is causing it not to shutdown properly??
I've noticed a DWORD registry entry for ShutXP in HKLM\Software\PPCSpft\psShutXP\VideoPowerOff which has a default value of 0. Setting this to 1 doesn't seem to make a difference to any of the features.
OK, I'll ask it in a slightly different way as I've done a little more searching around and cannot find any tools to do this...
How do you switch off the TyTn II without pressing the side power button?
i.e. have a shortcut in the HTC Launcher which powers down the device similar to psShutXP but not just to sleep??
I'm talking about completely switching the device off - not just putting it to sleep. Pressing the power button for more than 4 seconds allows you to switch the device off, completely.
PS shutxp
Have you heard of PSShutXP??
Have used it before... does what you desrcibe...

PsShutXP is not able to do that. I think it isn't even possible with any software. (AFAIK)
Thanks johanromijn, couldn't think of any other way of making it any more clearer...
I've read somewhere about a command prompt interface on the ppc which can emulate many functions. Do you know about this? I'm sure it could do many power functions but I can't for the life of me find the same one I read about.
Pressing the button simply sends a software command so perhaps it can be captured and saved to a shortcut on the touch screen. I could understand the difficulty if it were a hardware switch! Unfortunatly, the button capture software I've used doesn't register the button press and the device just warns me about loosing any unsaved data before powering off - screen capture attached.
I just don't want to waste battery unnecessarily over night or elsewhere when the device isn't required to be on.
Anyone got any suggestions??

Given that you'd normally need to press the power button to get it out of powersaving mode before doing any screen tapping anyway, other than the fact shutting the device down takes 5 seconds more, I don't see any advantage to having a fully screen tap method of powering off. In fact, to the contrary, it may result in unwanted accidental shutdowns eg when putting the device in pockets etc when the screen may accidentally be touched/tapped in the wrong place if not put into powersaving mode first.
Install 888PowerOff it will put a shortcut that you can place where you want in the start menu etc, still asks for verification but still faster than power button
Maybe you should just hire someone to do the work for you. Powering the phone off by holding a button is very hard work.
Lots of reasons
I'ts not as if you can't set the attribute of the shortcut to hidden and call it, to schedule it, or in my case, I'd like to use PhoneAlarm to trigger it when to power gets down to 10%, still allowing me to make outbound calls, that is if I'm not obsessively watching my battery while people I don't really need to talk to are calling me.
Not to mention with WinMo, I'm always telling people 'just hang on.' I can't even power down as fast as they can.
If I assign it to a long-press on another hardware key I can just reach in my pocket and press; I don't have to dig the thing out, hold the button for what on my unit comes out to 7 sec, tap, and put the thing back. Discretion is always nice.
I'd really prefer to skip the whole PowerOffWarning.exe/ShutXP bit, and just power off. My phone is not my heart, it can stop for a few minues once in a while.
Power off HTC TyTN II by software
I have the same question with my HTC TyTn II and have researched it for a few weeks now; even contacted HTC technical support - but they did not an answer. I did find a software that will fully power down the device (XdaShutdown).
But since I have had other HTC smartphones, Blacberry devices, etc., that would definitely fully power-off (not just the screen or go into Standby mode, etc.) - what I was really looking for is an app that would power-off the device at a scheduled time. Used to have a program called CTScheduler which did this on my former Smartphone (WM5). But this app does not seem to work on WM6.
If most Smartphones and Blackberry devices can do (either by 3rd party app or within the device itself...) scheduled power-off-- why can't some of these HTC Pocket PC devices be made to do same?

TALK / END buttons not workings...help

When I want to dial a phone number that I called before I used to press the TALK button and dial the number. Now I can't. It is not responding. The same happens and with the END button. When I weant to close a phone call it does not respond. I have to use touch screen to do it.A week ago the phone was working fine What do I do wrong?
Have you installed a program that can assign multiple functions to the hard keys? Since these programs could also allow you to not assign any function at all, thus neither the original function. Otherwise, make a complete backup of your phone and try if a hard reset brings the keys alive again...
i had the same problem. nothing to do with installing any software, it happened after i used sushi's tf3d config 0.5 to change the tab order. All the buttons stopped except for the home button. several hard resets later, installing my usul cab one t a time and testing the device, it seemed to fail after installing the remote desktop6.1 cab, or the wndows sideshow cab.
I'm using 1.93.456.2 wwe, and now tf3d config 0.6. i've not installed sideshow or remote desktop and all is working fine again.
not sure if this helps but it's kind nice to know i'm not alone in experiencing this problem!
cheers

X1 starts phone app when pushing on/off button

Hi all,
a few days ago i saw a strange behaviour of my X1
If i push the on/off button the X1 starts the phone app and sometimes even the caroussel function of MS3.
I didn't install new apps or change reg keys.
The system was running almost perfect in the last months
After a hardreset yesterday i reconfigured my X1 and it seemed well for the moment. I turned the device on and off several times and it showed normal behaviour.
A few hours later (X1 was not in use) i pushed the on/off button and the problem was back again...
IMO the X1 acts like someone pushes the left silver button and sometimes the green tel button.
Has anyone an explanation for this?
Ideas for solving?
Thanks
Horst
one program I use on the X1 is called AE button Plus
it can remap all the hardware buttons on my X1, maybe you can try them and see if you can set the ON/OFF button from there, overriding your default action for a temp fix
Same problem here, after my xperia fall deep into the water!
I fixed this using s2u2
Thank you guys for the answers.
What i'm looking for is a reg key that changed or sth like that.
Unfortunately my knowledge about the registry isn't very good.
Perhaps one of the WM pros reads this and can give me an idea where to look...
Thanks
Horst
