GPS stops working after installing MAPSware GPSmeterPE? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

After installing MAPSware GPSmeter Professional Edition v4.5
- my TyTNII build-in GPS stops working (suddenly doesn't work with any application. E.g. TomTom, Google maps. And it never worked with GPSMeter)
- And my TyTNII is suddenly very slow. After you click a button/start a program there is a lot of slack (sometimes more than 2 minutes).
Has anyone the same problem?
What should I do to make the internal GPS work again?
And how can I speed up my TyTNII again (back to "normal" speed)?
Thanks

This has been acknowledged by the developer in a German forum - they are working on a fix/workaround, but no ETA so far.....

Map4PDA will do the same thing. I tried everything under the sun to get my GPS to work again. After that, any program that would open the GPS port wouldn't be able to close it properly, causing my phone to run very slow. Eventually I had to hard-reset my phone and I vow never to use it again.

GPS not working.

Hello,
I am trying to help a friend with a Kaiser and wants his iGo working in it.
Everything seems ok, iGo starts but after some seconds it shuts down. I tried to change GPS port and everything else I could thought but problem persists. Any advice?

Did you try Tomtom before iGo? I have the same issue with google maps. It will seek sats and give up saying no gps signal. But if I run tomtom and then start gmaps it works fine (inside buildings). I would suggest you open iGO outside and check it out. Are you using COM4?
Will check... now he is travelling (Poland) but will call me when he came back.
I did not tried TOM TOM...
find a free program called GPS Test. Set it to Com 4 / 4800. Much smaller than TomTom and certainly an app that's worth keeping on it.

the issue is that the internal GPS on the Kaiser needs to be "jump started" there a few apps that do this a free one that is also good is GPSViewer and the others mentioned above. I use TomTom well since it came with my Kaiser and with all that Damn Program memory who the hell cares if I use 10MB to install TomTom and a Map
I have never had problems with starting my GPS. I did a quick fix once and have used it with first Google maps (no problem) then Pocketstreets (again no issue) and finally Tom Tom.
I have never had to wait more than 20 seconds or so for a fix. Make sure you are outside before starting the application though.

Kaiser GPS Reset???

Is there a way to reset Kaisers gps?
I tried to search but didn't find a guide to do this.
I know that there is a way to reset bluetooth gps receiver but no reset guide for kaiser or other build-in gps.
Read my signature and there you see my rom&radio etc.
It takes long time to get fix and I tought that gps reset might help.
Tried many programs: Tomtom 6, Igo 8, Htc gps tool, Htc gps test.
Same effect with all of above.
Erratic GPS performance needs more than a reset
It seems that the TyTN IIs GPS performance under WM 6.1 is quite erratic compared to WM 6. I've experienced very slow times to get a fix also, even though if the device is stationary and you shut it down then restart, it gets a fix in blazingly fast times. The problem is not that GPS needs to be reset because even powering off the TyTN II and restarting it doesn't solve this problem. I've notified Tomtom about it and I'm waiting to hear back from them if they have a patch or new GPS driver version that will cure this problem. I'd much rather have the device take a few seconds longer to get a fix in the above situation if it means it didn't take over 8 minutes (at which point I gave up and shut it down) to get a fix in places/situations where it used to take under one.
I shut down kaiser with powerbutton (not stylys+soft reset)
Turned on and ran htc gps test. Almost right away in view 2 satellites but no fix. It takes about 5 minutes to get proper fix. In view 13 | Fix 8 to 9. So gps is working perfectly but the time to get fix is too much.
Have the same problem, but its not TomToms issue - the same happens with google maps.
I think the problem is related to the device not using the quick gps download data and therefore you have to wait for the almanac data to be aquired from the satalites. Once aquired, a short power down usually results in a fast lock to the satelites, however the longer the gps is off, the longer it takes to lock to the gps.
Even hotfix is not fast. I am using quick gps..

Thanks for that report, I haven't installed Google Maps since I've flashed my TyTN II but this doesn't surprise me.

That fit's in with my experience for Tomtom except even once the data has been updated eg after a fix has been successfully obtained and Quick GPS was updated a few minutes earlier, shutting down Tomtom and restarting it whilst on the move (such as in a train), results in a fix taking ages - far longer than with WM 6. Does anyone know if HTCs Quick GPS program has been updated for WM 6.1 or what the latest version is? Mine says Version 1.0 (rarely a good thing) Build 220.821 but interestingly the copyright date is shown as 2006 - 2008.

How to Test Xperia GPS?

Hi,
I bought my Xperia 1 day ago, it's really good device. But I'm having some problems with GPS. Google maps starts to scanning for satellites for ages and never stops. I also tried the "Chartcross Gps Test" program and it finds the gps but it's always on "GPS Starting up" status.
Does anybody nows how to test it ? Or if there is something that i have to enable first? (all the configs are default - like in a hard reset)
It should work straight out the box. Try the quick GPS download in the Programs>tools folder. Downloads the locations of the satalites for the next week to the phone. Since using this, tomtom7 can find my loction in seconds (literrally)
Have you been trying it inside a building? In that case it won't work. I had the same thing with the GPS. In a building there is no connection to satelites, works perfectly though outside and from within a car.
Tomorrow I try google maps.
However I use tomtom. Befor all download effimeral with quick gps.
First of Xperia I have a Polaris. Xperia gps is much better than polaris. And polaris has a very good gps....
Tomtom7
Where did u get the Tomtom7 software for the xperia. A friend of my using his tomtom device and it works really fine! So on my X1 it would be really great if i can use it too!
I don't rememder now, but you can use Diamond tt7. It work fine.
ah thank you! but i can't find the file. could you post me the link for download pls
To test GPS use GPS Test from ChartCross. It's a great, free utility.
http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
thank you! ....
Now it's working fine. I have to test it with tomtom later, but with google maps is Ok now. I followed buckle247 and Dryw Filtiarn tips. Now it finds the satellites very quick.
Just one question, google maps requires internet connection and how about TomTom?
One thing that i noticed is that the GPS sometimes doesn't "turn on", because either Chartcross or GoogleMaps can't find the GPS device, however if i turn off and turn on Xperia it finds. Is it normal?
kotarou TomTom doesn't need to run over GPRS as the maps are all stored on the Memory Card, however if you subscribe to traffic data then that will need a GPRS connection.
Also every so often I get the "No GPS Device" sometimes just leaving the phone for a minute makes it appear, other times a soft reset.
Cannot install GpsTest
Hi, I tried to install GpsTest on Windows Vista, but it doesn't work, since GpsTest installer requires ActiveSync. But Activesync refuses to install on Windows Vista, because there is another SmartPhone software.
Does anyone know another versione of GpsTest, compatible with Vista, or a version installable directly on the X1?
Thanx!

If your 3G data is switched off, then you won't be charged for anything. GPS won't charge you as it is tracking signals from satellites, much like a Sat Nav.

GPS working for a few seconds and then freezes/doesn't work?

So I've had my diamond for a about year now. Tried dozens of roms and settled for the mystery rom. (for those who don't know, mystery rom utilizes wm 6.5 with Touch Pro 2 Manila interface). I also have quickGPS updated every week or so.
Google maps and tomtom have been working flawlessly with the GPS up to about a couple days ago. Now I've been having problems with both programs (and probably any programs that uses the GPS) finding my location and freezing my phone.
So with google maps, what would happen is that I would tap "use GPS" and it would track my location in a few seconds. Then what happens is the blue dot with the direction arrow would turn into just a blue dot without the arrow. This is probably when the GPS suddenly fails and my location isn't being tracked anymore (sometimes this would freeze google maps and sometimes my whole phone and I would need to do a soft reset).
When it doesn't freeze, the GPS would not work until I do a soft reset and the same thing happens when I try again.
Same with Tomtom. It would say "Waiting for a valid GPS signal" (meaning that it recognizes the GPS device) and then after a couple seconds it would stay on "No GPS Found" and it would just stay like that.
Now, is this a hardware problem? even though it's happening pretty consistantly and I would think that it wouldn't work at all if it was something with the GPS hardware.
If it's a software problem, the only significant thing I've done since last week is install memmaid and delete some old files/caches. Could this affect my GPS at all if I accidently some specific old/temporary files?
If anyone has any insight into my problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Getting lost is not fun
Thanks!!
hi,
yap same problem here. i use a win6.5 rom and got this problem.

IGO8 and A-GPS : Solved

On most ROMs I had, it was impossible to start IGO8 alone while AGPS was on. The PDA would simply freeze or never detect the GPS.
The workaround was simple however, you had to start the GPS with another software before (and staying in background).
Recently, I found this thread on Development And Hacking and I gave a try. This is a driver enhancement to fix lag. But as a side effect, it prevents IGO from freezing !
I can finally start Igo8 alone, it works great !
(results may vary depending on the ROM - I'm using TPC StockLike 23049)
yes, you are right. my igo8 now starts with a-gps on if i run VisualGPSce first. (i used advanced config to turn it off a-gps a while back)
but what does a-gps do? it was not any quicker fixing. or am i missing something?
on the page you linked, what exactly did you install? there cabs and registry fixes (sorry i am being lazy, there are 14 pages)
I've just installed the cab on the first post (v0.9) and voilĂ , no registry change needed (those are for fine tuning).
igo8 version?
Which igo8 version you used? I have been using a lot of different igo 8 versions and never had a problem not detecting the GPS. A-GPS asks me weeky to allow downloading the newest GPS data from internet, so I guess I am using A-GPS as well.
The GPS itself is not too quick though, my g/f's diamond locates our position every time way quicker. Will this cab you mentioned speed-up getting the fix?
I used PDA Corner ultimate x-v4 to date, just upgraded to x2-v11.
Altough QuickGPS is asking to download every now and then, that does not mean that AGPS is enabled. Most ROMs I have used (PDACorner's ROMs included) disable AGPS by default.
Any version of iGO I used would freeze with AGPS enabled, while they work with AGPS disabled.
From what I tested, the driver lag fix helps when moving slowly or not moving at all. It doesn't get a GPS fix faster. However, since it redirects GPS calls, iGO does not freeze.
AGPS can help getting fixes in a couple seconds. Diamond has no issue with iGO and AGPS.
Grrrr
Doet voor mij geen donder. Jammer
Didn't do the trick for me. Installed GPSMod 1.39 on Ultimate X-2 V11 ROM on a Tilt (TyTN II) and IGO still hangs on 'Starting'
This is using the default GPSMod Port Com1.
If someone does get this working on a TyTN II / Tilt, let me know
