It seems that kaiser wont be available for good price around here for some time and I'm wondering what would be its closes competitor... which phone is almost as good as kaiser for you?
Quite a few of us, including me, have upgraded from the 8525. I loved the 8525, but I love the little bit of extra speed plus built-in GPS on the Kaiser. Other than the GPS, it is a very worthy phone.
How about the Hermes or one of its competitors? I would check the Hermes forum for similar threads.

Who is your provider? Why don't you just go with a provider branded version of the Kaiser/TyTN II?
Thanks for reply guys.
Hermes is an option.. but I would LOVE to have gps integrated.
I'm from Eu and in my country Kaiser is not available with providers.
I am actually selling my hermes
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160174727924&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=006
It comes with a TOMTOM bluetooth gps.
If you are interested check it out.
It is a great phone and in great condition.
The Toshiba G900 is probably one of the closest competitors right now, and also has VGA, but seems there have been some firmware issues and general slowness, both of which may be resolved by firmware updates. I considered it but being an existing AT&T customer, I took the rebate and got a great deal on the Tilt.
Plus, I don't think the G900 it would be any cheaper. As people have suggested here, you will probably find a great deal on the Tytn (Hermes) now that so many people are moving to the Tytn II.

is it worth to upgrade to the kaiser or should I wait for it's successor?

I think you should ask your pocket or wallet this question...
Obviously the tilting screen, built-in GPS, larger memory, and being slightly thinner all makes me want to have it ... but its a matter of $$$$$$$$$$ now
sell your hermes now and recoup some costs then be first to buy kaiser.
I have a sim-only in the hermes and my business contract in my normal phone is due to end in october so I can get it relativly cheap (take a €80/100 dualsim 1 year contract, the its about €100-200 ).
Can the screen do a normal-slide too?
And does it fit in a hermes desktopcradle?
I always like new shiny things so I think I'll shove out the cash

I sold my Hermes (vodafone III 1605) still had the box everything.. got 300 euro for it that's about 400$.. now sitting and waiting with the money in the bank for the kaiser.
I hope to get 150/200 for it, a bit battered because I dropped it once (small crack in body and corner a bit shaved off) but works 100%.
I also sold my 8525 while I could still get the most out of it. Now, I am using a crappy samsung phone until the 8925 or the Tilt comes out! I had long been contemplating on buying a GPS and now my problem will be solved soon!

also using crappy eircsson K610i till the kaiser comes out...
although If i can come across a cheap tytn 100euro I'll get one
I am also trying to make the same decision. I just got my Hermes (8525) two days ago off of a guy for $220, but now that I see this is about to come out I am tempted to sell it I could probably get $300 or so for it if I do it soon before the tilt comes out. It came with an extra extended 2800 mAh battery and stuff. My motivations for the upgrade would be the obvious ram upgrade but more importantly builtin gps. I really want gps but I haven't purchased a bluetooth gps unit yet. My last concern is that I am with tmobile so I would nee to unlock the phone. How long does it usually take for an unlocker to come out? What are your opinions on everything?
well...I just got rid of my Hermes TyTn...I wasn't trying to make a profit, just trying to get back as much as I put into the phone....
can't wait until the Kaiser is released...
as everyone said b/f my post,,,the Kaiser overall is a better phone...

I sold my hermes.... I listed it on craigslist and a guy called me up this mourning and offered me more than I was asking for it if I would meet him. I got $360 for it. I saved him from the tragic fate of paying too much for a Herald he was just about to drop a little more on. he didn't wanna try and unlock an AT&T phone himself he was afraid so he bought mine instead and now he has twice the ponies of a Herald and I have $360 to put towards my kaiser

Yes it slides out normal(like the Hermes) then you can "tilt" it up.
As for the 2nd question, I dont know since the specs of the Kaiser are a tad bit different than that of the hermes
ok.. does someone have a clear bottomside picture to check where the USB port is?
sold my Tytn
I sold it for $500 including a GPS receiver. Waiting to get either a Tilt or an HTC Kaiser depending on the price... it seems the Tilt(AT&T) is going to be around 600 to renew contract do not know how much the Kaiser. It really makes a difference on the two units but more on the money.

Dam I`m defenatly getting Kaiser as soon as it hits the ATT shelfs, but seening how good you guys are selling your phones I`m thinking about selling my first !!! Just dont know what I will do with out it You guys think the prices will drop really bad for the 8525 Hermes Tytn as soon as the kaiser released ?
GO KAISER!!!
I work for AT&T in the U.S. and I met with the HTC reps last week. I played with this thing for an hour and a half. It was amazing!! The best part, they are sending me 2 free ones. One to hack and one to show my customers. I can't freakin wait!!!!
The tilt and the Kaiser are the same thing. We are just calling it the Tilt.
I didn go for it... last month a friend bought one but it didn't convince me shelling out that extra cash for just GPS, slightly sleeker exterior and that bit of extra memory.
Waiting for the TYTN III
Hay Guys
Just moved over from the Hermes Forum as I finally received my new Vario 3! Absolutely adore the handset, vastly more attractive than the Vario 2, however it is noticeably heavier.
Liking the touch screen, and needless to say I am not sure I will need phoneAlarm anymore to manage missed calls or anything!
Very impressed with the fact it has 128Mb Ram, does this make a difference over the Vario 2?
So much to play with lol!
Welcome to the fold. Totally agree its the best phone I've ever had!
(except a trusty SE K700i that still works after over 3 years [ab]use.)

No probs here - mine has to switch between 2 and 3G areas a few times each day, which it does without issue. No dropped calls or anything like that.
Are you on T-Mobile with a Vario III and "stock" firmware?
No, but then neither are some of the people in those threads you've posted - it looks like more of a hardware issue.
Mine is actually a Vodafone "V1615", debranded with the HTC stock firmware. On Vodafone, obviously.
True but a large number are. Just wondered if this was more prevalent on T-Mobile.
I'm happy - no problems, either.
OK, out of strange series of events I ended up buying a tilt and a Tytn II online that should be here soon. I also purchased a 8GB card *drools* that I'm saving for when the lucky phone gets here.
First off I want to say I've had a 8525 (hermes) for a year or so and I wanted to upgrade I am very familar with having this PDA and it's plans but what I'm not used to is flashing (even though I did it once to upgrade my phone from wm5 to wm6) I would like to know which ROM are best at the moment or even if there is one and if it's even worth it to jump into 6.1 right now.
My second question would be 0_0 which phone do I keep?? they are both new and I plan on selling the other one. The tilt isn't unlocked but I don't see how that really matters since I'll be using att anyway. Also Black is my favorite color (which this tilt is). but I do like the extra camera that the tytn has (even though I probably won't be able to use it). So which one should I keep?? Which ROM should I install once I decide which one to keep??
does anyone have an idea??
Read all about the ROM's and then decide which best suits your needs.
The phones are basically the same, especially if you install a ROM.

I'm just putting this out there, but you know.... since you have a second one, people are looking for a donation tilt/tytn to work on for video drivers
I'd keep the Tilt. The units are basically exactly the same, and you can get more in return for the TYTN II since it has the front camera that you can't use. The only thing you can use the front camera for is a mirror, so unless you are a pretty vain person, I don't think it is worth it. If money isn't an object for you, I think the TYTN II is a little cooler looking, but it doesn't really make sense to spend the extra amount for it over the Tilt.
I'm looking to purchase a cheap Hermes if you are letting that go too.
Well yeah I am planning on selling it. I was planning on trying to sell it for 280 with the 2GB card how does that sound to you??
I wanted to buy a TYTN II then i read than i can buy a HTC tilt 8925 for less than a TYTN II on ebay then upgrade the rom to TYTN II.
It is easy or risky to upgrade it?
Where i can find file for?
Also i saw on youtube some video who are showing than tomtom and videoplayer is slow on it. it is true?
Thanks
TYTN II and HTC Tilt 8925 are basically the same phone. The only difference is the camera on the front. Its useful in Europe where they support video calling.
Would I recommend it? Yes I would. Only because its currently the best most feature loaded phone you can get right now in the USA. However after the way HTC handled the whole driver issue, it will most likely be my last HTC device. At $150 with a 2 year contract you cant beat it, even with its faults.
The performance isn't bad for most tasks. I would suggest it mainly for tech friendly people and geeks. I would recommend the iPhone over it, if only the iPhone had 3G and was more open like Windows Mobile.
pops, i think u totally misunderstood what he was asking. He was asking if anyone would recommend buying the AT&T Tilt compared with the Tytn II.
Mammouth, the answers to all your questions is available everywhere in this forum. start from the stickies in here and in the upgrading forum and aso the wiki
I'm pretty sure I understood the question. My first sentence addressed the Tilt vs TYTN II question. The rest of my response wasn't as direct to his questions about the rom, but was direct at the title of the thread. "whould you recommand HTC tilt?"

Hell no I wouldn't recommend it. I got mine for $700 only to find out that they didn't develop drivers to use the hardware graphics acceleration on the chip they touted. They didn't make this point known and now appear unwilling to rectify the situation. I felt fine spending so much because I trusted HTC. I bought early having faith in them as a company. If you really want one/absolutely must have it and can find it for really cheap then by all means go for it. They are easy to flash and customize. However, if I were in your shoes, knowing what I know now, I would save and wait for the next wave of devices. Something with a VGA screen, >= 128Mb RAM, GPS, and fully developed drivers to use some sort of acceleration.
To sum up - no I can't recommend the Tilt. In fact I can't recommend any HTC device anymore. I'll personally never buy one from them again. It's sad too cause I was a huge fan
Yes for now, but 3 months down the road, no. Better phones will be available then. Just wait for another better more full featured phone with windows. Or wait longer for WM7(WM8?)

That is the question. Looking to that T-Mobile Wing device and found a lot of negative feedbacks in internet. Many people says that wing is very buggy and slow. What do you think about that? Very appretiate to get your opinions.
Thank you.
At this point, the wing is the only phone that Tmobile offers. It is pretty buggy and slow with the stock ROM on it. There are plenty of custom ROM's found on this forum that make the wing usable. I wouldn't say that they are incredibly fast compared to the tytn II, but with the right programs and ROM, the wing is fairly stable and fast.
At this point if you can wait I would say wait. The wing is near the end of its life cycle and with T-mobile launching its 3g network now they are going to come out with a new device. I am looking forward to getting my hands on an Android phone when they launch it 3rd quarter. Its a good phone just a little old and under powered at this point imo.
well bro.. Tmobile Wing a.k.a. HTC Herald is a older device. You can see, HTC Touch, have the same processor but double of memory (RAM and FLASH). Also u can see HTC Polaris (Touch Cruiser) is powered by a speedy processor (400MHz)
I can recommend u HTC Kaiser (TyTN II, AT&T Tilt) that its sold by AT&T. Is a good device, the only thing is poor video drivers.. but.. u r goin to turn ur ppc into a gaming device? i dont think so
Ok guys. First of all thank you about your opinions. You have very friendly forum.
I am consider wing as a cheap device. Just looked at ebay and found a lot of 300$ offers for never used phones. I am using t mobile prepaid and so can't get contract discount. I think all models which you mentioned are more expensive then wing.
Thank you again for your opinions.
if you want it for cheap i know of a WWw where you can get it cheap and new with 2 year contract
There are a lot of 1$ offers with 2y contract on ebay
its a good www i have used it may times and got my phone and family's phone from here

I got mine on ebay a little over a year ago for around 250, but yeah, on the stock rom, it does run slow and can be buggy. ...but, flashing to different roms, and all the tweaks you can do make it run extremely stable and quick. True, there are some other phones coming out with faster processors, but you are going to pay a lot more $$$ for them. I'm extremely happy with the way I have my phone setup now. It's a night and day difference from the stock rom.
