Not really Kaiser, but Gmail -IMAP - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

GMail has been adding IMAP to gmail lately. Not all accounts have it yet. But it's there and working on my acct and my Tilt.

IMAP doesn't work properly for a lot of users, myself included. It doesn't display the body of the email 90% of the time it seems.

hrmmm. guess i'm lucky

gmail apparently knows that IMAP is kinda wonky for WM5/6 users.

They're "working on it"
And yeah, I have the same problem. I get the header, but never the body. I thought it might be only on threads since they do email threads different than most, but even new emails don't seem to work properly.

Same problem here. They haven't fixed it yet. I hope it won't take long, because this sucks.

I've learned to just use it as a notification. If the header interests me, I'll pull up the mobile version of Gmail.

Looks like Google has it fixed as they now have specific instructions for setting up IMAP on WM6

I was getting really annoyed that IMAP was enabled on my account... and then I came across a post on MODACO that stated that you need to have your language set to English (US). Since I was using English (UK), IMAP was not enabled.
IMAP not enabled, try this:
1. Goto your gmail inbox
2. Click on "settings" in the upper right
3. On the "general" tab, set "language" to "english (us)
4. Click "save changes"
Presto, IMAP will be available!

Kaiser and Googlemail

Hi everyone,
i have the following problem: when i get my mail via pop3 from googlemail i also receive the send messages which are stored in google in my inbox.
The support from T-Mobile said they know the problem and the know it has to do with the setting, but they can't tell me which the setting is.
Can somebody help me please.
Gmail is currently adding IMAP to all users. log in and check your gmail settings to see if you gmail acct has it added yet. if it does, try using imap instead on your kaiser.
I actually have IMAP setup through gmail on my Wizard. I recieve the message headers but the bodies of the mail are blank. Not sure if I have something set wrong but AFAIK my phone is told to download the full message, no size limitations.
Change your account settings on the Kaiser. It's set to pull headers only and you can tweak that considerably. I'm getting all the text, but leaving attachments there.
You arent alone, buddy.

I have no problems with my Gmail account when I access my mail using the POP settings. When I try to access my email using the IMAP settings I have the same problem with the body of my messages coming up blank. I guess the IMAP server is so new, they are having problems showing threaded messages...
Yep, same issue for me as well.
its a common issue for all users of pop...it has something to do with their chat-style interface, even in pop.
i stopped using it because the sent messages get so annoying to delete. i just make gmai.com my home page now

GMail & IMAP

Hi all!
Probably somewhere but I didn't find easily.
Just configured Gmail setting to my Kaiser and it seems that it wont work.
I get all the headers I want but not message itself.
Anybody have same problem and how solved it?
Pasi
actually this is a well documented issue with WM6 and imap and html based messages
So?
I understand that with help of Mr. Google.
however what you suggest? Remove Imap and use POP3 instead? Or something else?
That is what I did. It appears that IMAP is not ready for primetime on the WM platform.
Google IMAP working just fine.
I followed the instuctions that I got from Google and mine works fine.
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
Make sure you enable IMAP in your Gmail settings online.
Thats the same set of instructions many have followed including me. I can view my HTML emails fine, but plain text emails are void aside form the headers.
Actually, I don't think it's IMAP the problem, but Google.
I had the same problem on my 8525, and was getting pretty frustrated.
Decided to switch to my ancient AOL account, which was the only other service I could find that offers IMAP, and the email has worked without a hitch. Since then I've got a Tilt and it has worked fine as well.
As much as I loathed AOL before, I'm still more used to using folder on Outlook and my PDA, so switching to AOL which uses folders as opposed to Google's labels wasn't much of a big deal.
The fact is that "Googles's IMAP" implementation IS flawed. The pop works fine. And, this is WM6 device independent.
How about testing with a regular client (like thunderbird to see if your IMAPed-Gmail account works fine ?)
fyi, Yahoo's IMAP works perfectly on my phone. I'd say it's a gmail/wm6 combo, with most of the error being at google.
That was what I based my comments on as well. I have had Yhaoo IMAP for a long time and never had one single issue. The issue has to be rooted in the IMAP implementation from Google as it pertains to WM.
So I just :
- enabled IMAP on my gmail account
- Followed all instructions on my Orange branded Tytn II
- Wifi turned on
- Email headers received
- With body for those plain text
- And with the Yellow box to download HTML content for the sexier ones
- Pressing the link to get the content at next download, then Send/Receive did the trick.
So I can say +1 for those who have no issues with Gmail/Imap

Working IMAP on Windows Mobile 6.1?

IMAP doesn't seem to work in any of the WM6.1 ROMS. Anyone know how to work around this?
I'm having my mail account configured using IMAP and it works without problems (WM6.1 Lite). I also had it with 6.1 "full" and WM6.
Whenever I setup a new email address it doesn't give me the option to NOT automatically get settings from the server for Gmail.
To make it work with Gmail you have to not use the default settings. I had it working just fine with WM6. Any ideas?
Have a look here.
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886&topic=12920
With the wm6.1 versions floating around there is no "check box" - that's the problem.
To resolve, you need to enter in a bogus (or incomplete) domain name for your email address in order to "fool" it and stop the auto pop3 config. then you can choose imap and afterward go back and correct the domain.
Are you talking about for exchange or for just a normal Outlook Mobile email that I added? Whenever I add a new email address through Outlook it doesn't ask for a doman.
Can you explain in more detail maybe??
Edit: I tried the bogus domain thing and it didn't work. Hmmm, this is pretty crappy. Unless there's a fix I might have to to back to my old ROM, cause the main reason I have a Treo is for email :/.
I don't have wm6.1 anymore (the version I was using was not ready for primetime IMO). But when asked for your email address (the first step I believe), do not put @gmail.com, instead make it gmai.com (not the missing 'L') then proceed through inputing everything else correctly, at some point you'll be asked for the mailbox type (drop down of pop or imap). Choose IMAP and carry on to finish. then go back in and correct your email address. synch your mailbox...
Worked like a charm man, thanks a lot!

Outlook Mobile Delete question

OK, this is probably a silly question, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.
I have set up a mail account to Gmail. In that account I'm forwarding some other accounts of mine, so it gets pretty crowded.
What I would like to do is delete messages from my phone but NOT from Gmail.
Outlook Mobile offers two choices, as far as I can see: when deleting messages either
Move them to server trash, or
Delete them off the server.
Neither of those suits me. I only want to delete them from the bloody phone.
A further restriction is that I like to use my mail from TF3D, and therefore would rather not having to install another mail client unless TF3D can somehow be coerced into working with it.
Oh, and in case you wonder - I don't sync my mail with the desktop Outlook. I'm using Gmail more and more...
Thank you all for your help.
have you tried both options, and seen what the effect on the server inbox is?
ive thought of this before, and it annoyed me greatly, but i cant remember the solution. plus, we all know how wm doesnt word things correctly.
rory
err... sorry.. duplicate post.. don't know why
Tap on mail (touch flo)
Inbox
Menu-Tools-options
Tap on Gmail
(setting should open up now)
Hit 'Edit Account Setup'
Click on next next next next next
(hide key board on Automatic Send/Receive screen)
Hit 'Advanced Settings'
When deleting messages: (drop down menu)
You can set it there to not delete the messages from the server
Hope this helps

Thank you for your answer. However, I only have the two options described in my first post. Can you see a third option there?
err.. oops. Just checked again
I could have sworn it was there!
Sorry mate. guess that was on the P1 or something.. not sure.
This might not be a feasible solution, but ... just a thought..
You could set it to keep the messages only for the last 4 or 5 days..
that way, they won't be on your phone, but will be on your server.
A POSSIBLE workaround.. definitely not a solution
Here is what I configured to use the diamond without loss of messages during their removal :
I created a special e-mail address to use with my mobile phone, like [email protected].
And I set up a redirect additional for all my messages to it.
Now, I can delete all my messages without erasing the ones on my main account.
Try to go to "tools" - "option". Click the account you need to edit. Click "send/receive schedule" - "advance settings" - "when deleting messages" dropdown menu.....

Same thing. Just the two options.
Delete from Server.. or Move to Server Trash
OK, I think I've got it. It all boils down to the fact that the default Gmail setup is IMAP. If you change that to POP3 (using the instructions from Gmail) you will be able to delete your mails on the phone only.
It would be nice if someone could confirm this. It certainly seems to be working for me.
EDIT: WORKS! I get "Keep them on server" now.
The problem is related to the gmail server own rules. I have just made a test account and there is no "keep on server" option on the WM mail client. On my other account (my own domain/server) there is no problem.
You could use another mail provider (hotmail, live) for example.

Turns out it actually is IMAP vs POP3. While IMAP is generally better, when you do something locally (on the phone) it is as if it was done on the server (a disadvantage in this case).
The key is to fool Diamond into not recognizing Gmail, which means giving the address as [email protected]gm.com, then put all the POP3 settings.
On the other hand, I've noticed it will only download the unread messages...

Hotmail Syncing

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft
Small update:
My Hotmail account was upgraded to Wave 4 this morning... Hotmail via Exchange? Still no go. It worked for about an hour back on 17th June, and nothing since.
Well it's all working again now
so its real push service?
if yes i need try this
i wa susing SEVEN but lack of html =(
Yes, it's proper push.
