What does DisH do in the registry? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Does anyone know what this does??

It's ok, I found it:
HKLM\Software\OEM\RIL\DisH
0 - enabled
1 - disabled
It allegedly enables/disables HSDPA.
Although I've set mine to "0" and also used KaiserTweak to enable HSDPA, it make no difference.
My colleagues HSDPA works, yet I'm standing right next to him and mine still doesn't work.
Are there any other registry entries related to HSDPA?
What about HSDPACat?? My default setting is set to "6", does anyone with HSDPA have another setting?

Data connection never drops

I was away for a week and upon returning my Tilt is exhibiting some strange behavior that's different from before.
Basically, data connections never drop. So once the first ActiveSync, use of Pocket IE, etc, occurs, the connection stays on forever. For example I just checked my phone and the connection has been active for over 16 hours (the phone sat hibernated for most of that time).
I could have sworn that previously, the connection would drop after some period of inactivity. The little H with the signal strength on the title bar would change back to the triangle antenna. But no more. I tried with HSDPA off too and saw the same problem (except I got a little 3G instead of a little H above the signal bars).
I even hard-reset my Tilt and this did not fix it.
What can explain why my data connections used to drop on their own before but suddenly stopped doing so? Basically, my phone used to behave as if the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak was enabled (even though I never enabled it) but it's now behaving as if "always on" is enabled (even though it is not enabled).
So you know about Kaiser Tweak - have you loaded Kaiser Tweak and set the setting? and it still behaves this way?
I cannot explain it - but if Kaiser Tweak fixes it do you still need an explanation?

I agree with Bill... If You have a solution that will work even though you haven't had to use it before, why not fix the problem a new way instead of Dwelling on the problem.
Maybe Check this. In Phone Goto Menu -> Data Tab. Check your Check Box on Disable data connections when device enters Sleep Mode. Soft Reset and see if that will fix it for you.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I didn't want to fix this with the KaiserTweak because it comes with a disclaimer that (a) it might not work with all programs and (b) is might prevent simultaneous voice and data calls. The latter seems more problematic; maybe this is not an issue with 3G/HDSPA (and only with the older data technologies)?
I can't find a data tab anywhere. I have a Tilt with stock ROMs... is the menu and data tab available somewhere? I'd like to try that suggestion.

If you don't have that tab the option has been "hidden" by the ROM Makers. So Though there is a way to get to it, It is One I don't know.
I would suggest then getting Schaps Advanced Config, Is what I use to put my Data Connections to off after three minutes. I haven't had any problems with simultaneous lovin' with Voice and Data.
Well I turned on the KaiserTweak for this and it works. Maybe I had it enabled before and didn't realize.
One thing I notice is that I always get the "connecting to" balloon pop-up when a connection is being established, even if I tell it to hide. So there's one annoyance, but it's better than having my battery drain down due to the constant connection.
Interestingly this never drop behavior coincided with the switch-over from the behavior of the 3G icon that goes to H only when a connection is established, to always showing the H icon. Could these 2 behaviors be connected somehow, and due to a change on AT&T's side?
You can turn off the notification by going to settings -> sounds and notifications -> notifications tab ->event = connection established, uncheck "display message on screen".
I was just experimenting and I found that enabling the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak prevents simultaneous voice and data. If a voice call is going, I cannot establish a data connection and if a call comes in the data connection drops. If the KaiserTweak setting is not enabled, I can get simultaneous voice and data.
My phone always shows the H icon.
It seems I have to choose between the stock setting of "connection never drops, and drains battery" and the KaiserTweak setting of "can't get simultaneous voice and data connections". Ouch!
Does BandSwitch use a different way to handle forcing the disconnections, or is going to boil down to the same registry setting that KaiserTweak uses for this?

Disable 3G! How?

Hi Guys,
Ok I want to completely disable any 3g connection and GPRS connectivity if possible, how do I go about doing this as I have dried to locate options but only found HSPDA on of switch. The only option in the comms that is set to on is phone.
Any help would be appreciated as this is really annoying me. Thanks in advance.
Regards
Shadow
Program nodata will provide your needs.
Search forum and you wil find it.
Grtzzz
Start|Settings|Phone|Band set network to GSM.
Start|Settings|Connections|Manage existing connections|Delete existing connection
You could also try Nadavi 's Improved Comm manager..
so u can switch between Auto modus (3G) and GSM only.
Thanks guys, managed to disable all connections. Its a bit annoying that the 3g or GPRS connections are always active, bills are becoming abit of a nightmare lol. Once again Thanks!
Regards
Shadow
just diable auto-attach and set default networkl connection wifi and set EDGE connection ONLY when needed

gprs/3G disconnects after a while

Hello,
i have the problem that my gprs/3G disconnects after a while when my phone is on standby.
Iam not sure if it is a provide or a Phone problem.
Anyone a hint for me ?
Hi,
Using Advanced Config 3 I stumbeled upon an option in 'Data connections': GPRS disconnect: Enable button and timer. The default option is button disabled. What this exactly does I do not know, but it seems related to your question.
Mine was set to Enable button and timer (I can't remember setting this option but anyway). I think you need to check the register for the length of the timer.
thanks for the anser, ive played with advanced config option already, but it changed nothing But i will give it another chance now
But: if iam the only one who has that problem, i may be a problem of the provider. I have German Eplus and the umts isnt realy good there...

Diagnostic Mode

Is there a way to put our phones in diagnostic mode while in Android?

In Windows mobile you were able to use phone codes like ##3424# to put the phone in diagnostic mode so you could connect to the phone's programming menu with QPST.
My GPS has been really unreliable lately. My phone sees like 12 sats, but never gets a fix. I wanted to be able to tweak some settings to see if it would make a difference. I've installed Android to nand, and I don't want to have to re-install a WinMo ROM just to do that.
Does rtask c via mtty put your phone into diagnostic mode? I think you will need hard spl mfg for rtask commands.

nope... never did figure it out.
I was hoping to get more of response here because I don't want to have to go back to WinMo either.
You are in luck because the other day I started to write an app for service programming. It doesn't do a lot but one of the things it does do is let you change all the same gps settings that qpst does.
Install the attached app and run it, it puts your phone in airplane mode and then uses diag commands to let you read and write the nv settings. Under gps settings you should see the raw numbers. It's not as easy as qpst (which you can still use by running rtask c) but it should do the job.
Don't mess with anything else because it probably won't work. Pressing menu will let you enter your msl but you don't need it for the gps settings.
Let us know which gps settings work for you.

Can you give me a quick tutorial on this? I'm guessing where you have 0's, only numerical entries can be made. I'm assuming that 1 is on and 0 is off. For GPS Preferred Transport is IP 1 or 0? Also for Mobile vs PDE, is Mobile 0 and PDE 1?
Thanks.

I think 0 is ip and 0 is mobile, but can't be sure, the services field is an 8 bit number for the tick boxes on the left of the qpst page. I think the lockout field should be 1. I'd be interested to know what values you have.
A tad off topic but semi relevant.
I am eye'ing a new HTC Incredible when it is released in a few weeks on verizon, however I will not be using verizon's service. I need to know how I can update my PRL manually from android (verizon sets the SPL code to 000000 so it is technically "unlocked").

The incredible is nice. I've been waiting to see verizon's nexus colors. I'm not too wild about the solid red backing on the incredible tho.

Probably best to do it from qpst, use mtty (or HTCFlasher) to put the spl into calibration mode with rtask c and then connect it to a windows box running qpst. In theory it's possible to update from within android but somebody would have to write the code.

My settings before I changed anything were as follows:
AGPS Capabilities: 1
AGPS Port: 8888
AGPS IP Address: 42AE5F84 (I did try changing this to 66.174.95.132, but it reverted back to 42AE5F84)
PDE Services Lockout: 0
GPS Preferred Transport: 0
Mobile vs PDE Based Position 0
I changed to the following:
AGPS Capabilities: 1
AGPS Port: 8888
PDE Services Lockout: 1
GPS Preferred Transport: 0
Mobile vs PDE Based Position 1
At these settings, my phone could see a few satellites, but never got a fix.
I changed to these settings:
AGPS Capabilities: 1
AGPS Port: 8888
PDE Services Lockout: 1
GPS Preferred Transport: 0
Mobile vs PDE Based Position 0
.. I had basically the same results. Saw a few satellites, but no fix.
I'll keep playing with different combinations to see if I get lucky.
Thanks again.

42AE5F84 is 66.174.95.132 in hex so that should be OK.
AGPS Capabilities should be 255 to enable all the options i think. Without agps you may need to wait outside for about 10 mins to get the first fix. After this it should be faster.
shiznit try these settings;
agps capabilities: 1 (edit: if dzo says 255 will enable all the options try that as well if 1 doesn't work)
agps port: 8889
agps ip address: 216.198.139.92
pde services lockout: ? (not sure what that is)
gps preferred transport: 0 (IP)
mobile vs pde based position: 0 (I've heard that both work, I use mobile)
I'm also on vzw and these are the telus settings that I've been using for a long time now since when I did the vzw agps fix using qpst...

I tried 255, wasn't able to get a lock

AGPS Port: 8888
AGPS IP Address: 42AE5F84
PDE Services Lockout: 0
GPS Preferred Transport: 0
Mobile vs PDE Based Position 0
..and things started working again. Go figure.

It generally takes around 30-45 seconds. I'm guessing it is using aGPS. Is there a way to determine that?

My first 4 settings had all 0's, the last 2 were 1's. I've never done the aGPS fix. It generally takes me up to 2 mins to get a lock, longer if I've cleared the cache, etc. I'll test some settings and reply with what I find out.

GPS not working in the UK

I unlocked my AT&T Captivate to work with UK sim cards, and it works great. Unfortunately, the GPS doesn't seem to work at all over here. There's enough problems as it is with the GPS, but it literally picks up 0 satellites. It doesn't seem to be functioning at all!
Any suggestions?
you need to change the supl server in lds test mode, in jupiter.xml and in conf.gps(the last one might be wrong) just use a gps fix like da_g's or or plumb_bob's with google/global settings and make sure lbs test mode is set to match the other files.
plumb_bob's fix uses msbased mode for agps others default to stand alone, msbased agps will likely help it pick up those satalites. but remember you cant simply set lbs test mode and have it work all the time you really need to use plumb_bob's update or make similar edits to your configuration files. for plumb bob's fix just follow the first post.
i personally have great sucsess with da_g's control plane version and i set the lbs supl/control plane menu to;
custom config
supl.google.com
7276
off
control plane
another thing to consider is the modem.bin. you need one that has the 900 band correct? maybe try the armani one or i think kp1 from the i9088 has all the bands but needs to be set to 900 manually. it also has great gps reception.

Thanks for all the tips I'll be trying them out shortly. One thing though is that I want to use the GPS, not the aGPS, because I don't want to use data while I'm over here (it's expensive). I've cached maps and wish to use the GPS to navigate while I'm out and about. Will these changes still help me?
Thanks!
Just a quick bump. Will da_G's fix work without any data connection?
Thanks!
EDIT: well it doesn't seem to no. The only way I can get a GPS lock here in London is with 3g data enabled. That is very unfortunate and annoying, I was hoping to use maps offline!
