Hello,
i have the problem that my gprs/3G disconnects after a while when my phone is on standby.
Iam not sure if it is a provide or a Phone problem.
Anyone a hint for me ?
Hi,
Using Advanced Config 3 I stumbeled upon an option in 'Data connections': GPRS disconnect: Enable button and timer. The default option is button disabled. What this exactly does I do not know, but it seems related to your question.
Mine was set to Enable button and timer (I can't remember setting this option but anyway). I think you need to check the register for the length of the timer.
thanks for the anser, ive played with advanced config option already, but it changed nothing But i will give it another chance now
But: if iam the only one who has that problem, i may be a problem of the provider. I have German Eplus and the umts isnt realy good there...

I was away for a week and upon returning my Tilt is exhibiting some strange behavior that's different from before.
Basically, data connections never drop. So once the first ActiveSync, use of Pocket IE, etc, occurs, the connection stays on forever. For example I just checked my phone and the connection has been active for over 16 hours (the phone sat hibernated for most of that time).
I could have sworn that previously, the connection would drop after some period of inactivity. The little H with the signal strength on the title bar would change back to the triangle antenna. But no more. I tried with HSDPA off too and saw the same problem (except I got a little 3G instead of a little H above the signal bars).
I even hard-reset my Tilt and this did not fix it.
What can explain why my data connections used to drop on their own before but suddenly stopped doing so? Basically, my phone used to behave as if the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak was enabled (even though I never enabled it) but it's now behaving as if "always on" is enabled (even though it is not enabled).
So you know about Kaiser Tweak - have you loaded Kaiser Tweak and set the setting? and it still behaves this way?
I cannot explain it - but if Kaiser Tweak fixes it do you still need an explanation?

I agree with Bill... If You have a solution that will work even though you haven't had to use it before, why not fix the problem a new way instead of Dwelling on the problem.
Maybe Check this. In Phone Goto Menu -> Data Tab. Check your Check Box on Disable data connections when device enters Sleep Mode. Soft Reset and see if that will fix it for you.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I didn't want to fix this with the KaiserTweak because it comes with a disclaimer that (a) it might not work with all programs and (b) is might prevent simultaneous voice and data calls. The latter seems more problematic; maybe this is not an issue with 3G/HDSPA (and only with the older data technologies)?
I can't find a data tab anywhere. I have a Tilt with stock ROMs... is the menu and data tab available somewhere? I'd like to try that suggestion.

If you don't have that tab the option has been "hidden" by the ROM Makers. So Though there is a way to get to it, It is One I don't know.
I would suggest then getting Schaps Advanced Config, Is what I use to put my Data Connections to off after three minutes. I haven't had any problems with simultaneous lovin' with Voice and Data.
Well I turned on the KaiserTweak for this and it works. Maybe I had it enabled before and didn't realize.
One thing I notice is that I always get the "connecting to" balloon pop-up when a connection is being established, even if I tell it to hide. So there's one annoyance, but it's better than having my battery drain down due to the constant connection.
Interestingly this never drop behavior coincided with the switch-over from the behavior of the 3G icon that goes to H only when a connection is established, to always showing the H icon. Could these 2 behaviors be connected somehow, and due to a change on AT&T's side?
You can turn off the notification by going to settings -> sounds and notifications -> notifications tab ->event = connection established, uncheck "display message on screen".
I was just experimenting and I found that enabling the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak prevents simultaneous voice and data. If a voice call is going, I cannot establish a data connection and if a call comes in the data connection drops. If the KaiserTweak setting is not enabled, I can get simultaneous voice and data.
My phone always shows the H icon.
It seems I have to choose between the stock setting of "connection never drops, and drains battery" and the KaiserTweak setting of "can't get simultaneous voice and data connections". Ouch!
Does BandSwitch use a different way to handle forcing the disconnections, or is going to boil down to the same registry setting that KaiserTweak uses for this?
Hi
First we had Vodafone which let the gprs connection always on.
Now we switched to KPN which lose connection after some period. That's OK by me, cause we use 2 connections.
1 for work and 1 for internet.
The program in use decides which connection to make.
But big problem is a a popup which state it's not possible to make connection.
In portrait there's a button to ignore it, but in landscape the button is not there.
Is there a registry tweak to turn this popup completely off??
I'm already jusing the kaiser tweak program and i'm jusing mobile 6.1 (collega's who have the 6.0 version of mobile are experiencing the same problem)
tnx in advance.
Found this threat something almost similair
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334718
But in WM6.1 (my version) the cennection lost notification check is grayed out. (and not checked) So why do i keep getting connection (GPRS) lost bubble (searched for popop )
Hi,
I use iGo8 and TomTom 7 and with both of these applications, everytime I close them I can see that they openend the GPRS connection (internet mobile)... my internet has no limit of use so it's not much of a money issue but the battery is going down pretty fast beacause of this background running data connection ...
Is there something I could do ?
Install nodata.cab from modaco

Thanks for the reply. I tested the software you pointed out. It's a solution except that its pretty boaring to have to lock the internet connection everytime you need to use the GPS (for it's 15 to 20 times a day with a new adress) ...
Any idea on how to disable the connection only for the GPS software ?
EDIT : even with all connections disabled with nodata, the gsp still manages to open the connection !
I had exactly the same problem. I tried the same cab as you and it didn't work... I tired creating a bogus connection and selected it to try and stop the GPRS connection as someone else advised but a GPRS connection kept on opening itself...
Do what I did and flash a stock HTC ROM over your SFR one... It completely solved the problem for me.
You might want to dump the old SFR one first for guarantee reasons.
I use igo8 and it never turns on the GPRS connection.
I don't know if this is the cause, but can you check if assist GPS is ON or OFF?
Mine is OFF which is the default behavior...
If you don't have it, you'll need an app like "Advanced Config" in order to be able to see and change the A-GPS behavior
--Double post--- Ignore
This was the problem ideed. I have direct access to the A-GPS ON/OFF option in the parameters and it was ON. Switched it to OFF and the navigation software don't start the data connection now !
Thanks !
Hi,
I own this HTC kaiser since few months and I am facing this strange problem now a days, I am not familiar with kaiser terms so lets call it top bar. At top bar there is usually a "E" or "G" just next to signal strength symbol. And now a days that "E" or "G" sign turns into "x" in every few hours ( mostly when I press that little side button to turn screen off ) and then nobody is able to reach my number. It happens only when I am at local network, I recently went home ( roaming ), same provider and my phone started to show this "triangular" symbol just next to "E" or "G" symbol, I stayed home for like a month and never saw "E"/"G" turning into "x", cell was working like a charm.
Now to cut very long story fairly short, is there any issue with hardware, radio particularly ( I heard this signal catching part is called as radio ) or ROM I am running ?
You geek guys might wanna laugh about ROM version but thats what I use ( and before passing comments like upgrade ROM to fix this issue please explain why should I, why am I facing this issue, is there any particular piece of code in this ROM causing it, any known issue ? ). And yeah forgot to mention, I tried every configuration parameter thats there in "setting/program" menu and sub menu. I didnt play with advance config and registry yet to fix this thing.
Details:
HTC kaiser
Windows mobile @ 6.1 professional
CE OS 5.2.19212 ( Build 19212.1.0.3 )
Again please ask me to upgrade if you are sure about what is causing this issue ( if its a known issue ) and what will fix it, else I am happy to say goodbye to kaiser.
Thanks in advance to you all. Please feel free to ask anything thats required to fix this stuff.

The x means it's on GPRS and if you use Advanced Config to enable GPRS Legacy then won't get X
Thanks for response, and sorry for being stupid but do you mean Advance config --> Data connections --> Legacy GPRS notification ?
If yes then its disabled. Though there are two more parameters:
Advance config ---> Data connections --> GPRS auto attach
Which is set to "Enabled"
and
Advance config ---> Data connections --> GPRS disconnected
Which is set to " Enable button and set timer ".
What are the correct settings?
Thanks.

Unfortunately it didnt help, what next?
The ROM I use (wm6.5, 3.09 driver, M2.5) does not disconnect WiFi when it suspends. It drains the battery very quickly if I forget to turn off wifi. I wanna write a script to make this function (turn off wifi or not when suspending) a configurable choice, and then map to a hardware button.
I searched on web. They said that changing the key "HTCkeepwifionwhenunattended" to 0 can disconnect wifi automatically. Some of them said that this only works before next soft reset. But for me, whenever before or all after reset, it doesn't work at all. No matter the value of this key is 0 or 1, wifi connection is kept alive after suspending.
Any one tell me why? This is common or a special problem to my rom? any other methods to turn off wifi after suspend or some idle time?
Thank you guys a lot!!
anybody knows? help pls! big thanks

you should just use the Touch X DataDisconnect
TWEAK Reply
For the longest time, I had the opposite problem: I was forever annoyed that the WLAN would automatically disconnect every time I turned the device off. Then I found two very handy utilities that can fix (or unfix, in your case) that and many many other things. I use Advanced Config and DiamondTweak. Incredibly useful pieces of software.

Thanks for the reply. But this is not what i need. I want wifi disconnect automatically when screen goes black. I often forget to turn the wifi off and after a few hours finding battery drained.

I installed it. Is "turn off wifi if no activity" the right item? I change the value to Yes, and "wifi auto off timeout" is set to 30 seconds. But it still doesn't work

I find the place. It's in ACT's menu->more settings, uncheck "keep wifi on when standby". However, it still doesn't work...
Probably this setting just modifies "HTCkeepwifionwhenunattended" in the registry, which seems not make any difference in my system.
I'm going crazy...
I finally find the reason. That's because this ROM doesn't use the default wifi switch interface. It wrote its own .exe program to turn on and off the wifi, maybe by which it bypasses the registry tweaks.
By using the system wifi switches, the modification of registry works.

why you don't try Bandswitch...??
Bandswitch has a function Take control of your connections: Switch between 2G-3G Enable and disable connections. Disabling connections makes imposible to use them so you know they wont generate traffic data. Stablish and close connections. Set a time frame where connections wont be allowed (ie, when you are sleeping) saving money and battery.. Turn off/on Bluetooth and Wifi with or without time limite. When the limit expires then It is set to off state
but if you want to know the registry tweak to disable or enable the wifi connection , like here HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\Parms\dot11SupportedRateMask = 1 (DWORD decimal) is enabled
