The ROM I use (wm6.5, 3.09 driver, M2.5) does not disconnect WiFi when it suspends. It drains the battery very quickly if I forget to turn off wifi. I wanna write a script to make this function (turn off wifi or not when suspending) a configurable choice, and then map to a hardware button.
I searched on web. They said that changing the key "HTCkeepwifionwhenunattended" to 0 can disconnect wifi automatically. Some of them said that this only works before next soft reset. But for me, whenever before or all after reset, it doesn't work at all. No matter the value of this key is 0 or 1, wifi connection is kept alive after suspending.
Any one tell me why? This is common or a special problem to my rom? any other methods to turn off wifi after suspend or some idle time?
Thank you guys a lot!!
anybody knows? help pls! big thanks

you should just use the Touch X DataDisconnect
TWEAK Reply
For the longest time, I had the opposite problem: I was forever annoyed that the WLAN would automatically disconnect every time I turned the device off. Then I found two very handy utilities that can fix (or unfix, in your case) that and many many other things. I use Advanced Config and DiamondTweak. Incredibly useful pieces of software.

Thanks for the reply. But this is not what i need. I want wifi disconnect automatically when screen goes black. I often forget to turn the wifi off and after a few hours finding battery drained.

I installed it. Is "turn off wifi if no activity" the right item? I change the value to Yes, and "wifi auto off timeout" is set to 30 seconds. But it still doesn't work

I find the place. It's in ACT's menu->more settings, uncheck "keep wifi on when standby". However, it still doesn't work...
Probably this setting just modifies "HTCkeepwifionwhenunattended" in the registry, which seems not make any difference in my system.
I'm going crazy...
I finally find the reason. That's because this ROM doesn't use the default wifi switch interface. It wrote its own .exe program to turn on and off the wifi, maybe by which it bypasses the registry tweaks.
By using the system wifi switches, the modification of registry works.

why you don't try Bandswitch...??
Bandswitch has a function Take control of your connections: Switch between 2G-3G Enable and disable connections. Disabling connections makes imposible to use them so you know they wont generate traffic data. Stablish and close connections. Set a time frame where connections wont be allowed (ie, when you are sleeping) saving money and battery.. Turn off/on Bluetooth and Wifi with or without time limite. When the limit expires then It is set to off state
but if you want to know the registry tweak to disable or enable the wifi connection , like here HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\Parms\dot11SupportedRateMask = 1 (DWORD decimal) is enabled

Hi guys,
My battery is dies quickly if my connection is on. Is there any cab files created that allow connections to automatically be switch off after say 1min, 5mins etc? I do use push mail so would like it to come on and go off ...
Cheers in advance ...

No, you either have it on or off. If you want to kill it do this:
Disable Auto Attach GPRS with Schaps Advanced Config
Luck!

Yes, or at least DiamondTweaks purports to be able to disconnect data connections after x minutes (persumably of non-use). Note the caveat about it potentially not working in some programs and also disconnecting simultaneous voice calls at the same time so you would be wise to experiment with it first!
If you give it a try do let us know how you get on.
Mathew
Theres the auto attach function which you can disable in Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool which means data connections will only be seeked when you go to use an application that makes a data request.
There is also an AUTO OFF option to auto disconnect the session after specified number of idle minutes....Not had any issues on 1.93.405.1 image with regard to call drops etc. Mine is set to 5 minutes disconnect.
Do you know if it is possible to detach (not just disconnect) again from GPRS following a connection that's no longer required? The auto-attach setting is all well and good but once you've used it and disconnected you remain attached (until you soft-reset of course).
Mathew
I regularly use wifi for work and at home on my mobile and it has become a very high annoyance that the wifi gets shut off when the phone goes into standby mode. I use IM regularily.
I have currently installed KaiserTweak and Advanced Configuration.
At the beginning I believe wifi would continue to work in standby with only KaiserTweak settings used.
However today once I installed advance configuration for the purpose of saving battery power without the use of 3G... I have lost the ability to use wifi whilst in standby mode.
I have tried uninstalling Advanced Configuration to no avail .
Any help would be much appreciated!
Wi-fi connectivity in standby mode?
As above I have so far installed KaiserTweak and Advanced configuration to no avail.
It will always disconnect once in standby mode.
KaiserTweak has the "Wifi standby mode" option..
You can find KaiserTweak here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
And the latest xml file for KaiserTweak here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
Thanks for the reply however It is currently enabled and my wifi still disappears...
I believe this was caused by the installation of Advanced Configuration which is currently removed
This has really buged me as well as i ned wifi to stay on as well. YEsterday, i had everything going great, but then i did a hard reset and forgot to back up the settings.
If i'm in wifi mode and on Jivetalk, wifi will only stay on for about 2 minutes in standby mode and then turn off. I've tried editing the registry manually and messed with everything, but nothing sems to work atm.

Exactly the same situation as me. I hope there is a fix for this as I've got too many things on the phone to do a hard reset However did the hard reset fix it all up in the end?
I'd hope registry items don't retain memory after a reset
OR
Anyone know how to remove Advanced Configuration entirely?
UPDATE: I hard resetted and reinstalled everything just then.
Now I can't seem to get my hotmail syncing with it again through windows live and cannot disable 3G.
Bottom line though.... its still the same!!!!
I have KaiserTweak enabling the standby wifi and it will still disconnect me when i put it on standby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All that time wasted....
I have tested this through having downloads on and MSN and then switching to standby mode. Upon waking the device up all connections will be interrupted and the wifi will require a reconnection.
However, if I were to be doing nothing with the wifi on and go into standby, the connection will still be there upon wake and not require reconnection (useless...)
Try downloading the newest Schap's 3.0 tool. Nothing is working for me as well. I wish i had saved the registry to go back to it but i forgot and now it doesn't work in standby mode.
Still no luck with it. Anyone been able to get theirs to work?
is there a way if any program needs connection the wifi to turn on and after exit of the program the wifi to turn off (not waiting 2-3-4min if there is no usage to turn off then)?
I have turned off the wifi for the battery life reasons, so when I need it any time I have to go into comm.manager and so on....
I'm actually using phoneweaver (not free), you can set profiles to switch on/off wifi at specific times. I can turn wifi on, but for some reason can't turn it off automatically, guess I'm a bit dumb to set it correctly, but it works for me.
there's another software called wifilocations (free), it seems to turn on/off wifi based on cell id's, haven't tried it but might work for you
I personally have set a hardware button to act as Wifi on/off (with AEBPlus) and just toggle it with a double press when I need it and when I'm done.
There is a wifi button on the keyboard (right arrow button)
True, I usually forget about that one. But then, I don't want to open the phone to turn Wifi on/off.
Prepare for something magical...
Ok so this isn't magical, in fact, it's just another .cab that you can remapp a button to, that's what I have done and I just toggle wifi on and off using it. Here is the .cab.
Somewhat related but does anyone know if it's possible to turn the phone off but leave wi-fi on ? If I'm at home, I want to have Skype running and receive calls like general mobile calls. Would also like to be available with Messenger too
C
Download KaiserTweak, it has an option to keep wifi on during standby.
Perfect thanks however .......
Anyone know how I can run Skype and/or WLM in background ? They seem to shut when I click X on them
C
Check you don't have a 3rd party program or HTC task manager set to "close" instead of "minimize" when tapping X.
yo. i need when i turn off screen wifi dont disconenct.. how i can do it ? its anyoing when still connecting/disconnecting
As always, Google is your friend... find OldSAP Don`t sleep WiFI, or WiFiNoStandby, install, turn ON when you`re WiFi connected and do what you wanna do.
thx.. i was googling but i didnt find it
You can also use the Advanced Config program to make it so the wireless doesn't go into standby. So when you use the power button to switch off the screen, wifi remains connected.

It is in network settings. You can set wifi to turn off after no activity and turn off after a set time out.
it always disconect.. i tryied all what u post here
Have you tried advanced config but not under main menu:
Menu/More Settings/Connections : Enable WiFi on standby mode.
ahh yea... ty very much work now ... another question.. why my display go off when i am in call .. after 30 seconds.. i cannot end call
Again, Advanced Config has a setting for that, " no sleep during a call "
thx very much..
Hi everyone
I have a profile that that kicks in every 30 mins from 8 am to 9pm, to sync my account. I have set it up to use wifi first, but if there is no wifi connection it will go to my mobile data instead.
Now here is the problem if my phone is on standby it always connects via mobile data regardless of a wifi connection is available. But if I am using my device at the time when the task runs then it will connect to wifi. I have checked my, keep wif on in sleep option and it is set to always.
Could anyone explain as to what this is happening?
Thanks in advance
What is your Android version?
I am currently using a custom rom called exodus which is currently based on marshmallow.
Check if Tasker is excludied from Battery Optimization and whether Wi-Fi is not deactivated while the phone is in sleep mode in Settings/Wi-Fi/Advanced/Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep.
yep tasker is excluded from battery optimisation and the allow wifi during sleep policy is always.
If you're turning wifi on with tasker action wifi turn on, try instead of that shell script "svc wifi enable".
Ok thanks, I will let you know the out come of this. I was using secure settings to enable Wifi as the command built in tasker, is not compatible from kitkat and onwards if I remember correctly.
I found out "svc wifi enable" command does exactly the same thing
Discovered I'm having the very same problem on cm13 and the batch jobs have been done by initialized mobile data. Finally found out a solution to initialize wifi instead of mobile data. I've no limited data plan, but wifi is more battery friendly.

Yes under normal circumstances it takes about 20 seconds to connect.
No because for some reason my wifi will only switch on if the screen is on.
I also have uninstaled my custom kernel, but this issue still appears from time to time.
There's a setting in wifi connection settings that you can set to that says "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep"
This same setting is often repeated in battery apps like powernap, naptime, better battery saver etc.
Even though the wording is the same, I don't believe they are all touching the same setting so go find those apps if you have them installed.
Also, disable all native battery savers (including Samsung 2 or 3 different ones,, doze, battery optimization etc etc just to see if your problem goes away.... Which it will. At least you'll know though
I have the same problem with Wi-Fi connection.
I have a profile to turn Wi-Fi on and try to connect when certain conditions meet and the screen is off in that case.
It seems that the phone has difficulties turning Wi-Fi on and connecting to it when screen is off. Tasker does manage to turn Wi-Fi on but the phone somehow does not connect *reliably* in all cases.
Tasker is excluded from battery optimization, Wi-Fi on during sleep. I tried turning cpu on for a short time hoping that it will connect, but still no result.
The only possible solution might be turning the screen on briefly at that moment.
If anybody has a better idea, you are more than welcome to share!

I can certainly say that turning the screen on will enable wifi, as I have resulted to this as well. But unfortunately I do not know any other solutions to try.

My Wifi is set to always "keep wifi on during sleep"
I'm going to resort to flashing stock rom again and see if that helps. As I am only using doze and amplify to save battery, all settings for that has been adjusted to the guide I found.

Before reflash, just disable xposed and see what you get... I will bet half of this soft taco I'm eating your problem disappears with greenify and or amplify. I'm not saying don't use them at all... Just make sure it works without them. I used to have some serious battery apps, but found after disabling, my battery was IMMENSELY better. And I had no config to deal with. But first things first... IT'S without a doubt, no question, a battery app setting or a system app that's being put to sleep that should be white listed
