IE Explorer and Opera Mobile 8.65 DSL speed check? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I searched on the forum and to the best of my knowledge I couldn't find an answer to this question. Why is it when you check the internet speed on Rogers in Canada using 3G, you get 1016 kbs/ sec on IE Explorer and 500-650 kbs on the Opera Mobile 8.65. Both browsers are used one after the other to do the speed check. I know traffic affects the speed but repeating the test on IE Explorer gives a similar result and on Opera a similar 500-600 kbs/ sec.
I hope someone has an answer.
Best regards,
Gilbert

I just tested this and got about the same throughput in both I.E. and Opera. My initial thought is that you might have IE setup to go through the cingular proxy and Opera not to. I'm not too good at the proxy issues, so that's just a guess.

Opera slow to make http requests?

Hi,
Does anyone else find that when you click on hyperlinks in opera, it can take an absolute age for the request to hit the server? I seem to get a fair amount of the HTTP request timed out messages on many popular sites.
A lot of the time clicking on the links does nothing and you have to keep hitting them until it succeeds.
Once you do finally make a request that hits the server the response is very fast indeed.
The problem is definitely to do with making the requests, its not a case of it sitting around waiting for the browser to render the page.
(am on o2 hsdpa with hsupa enabled)
anyone else?
there are 2 opera browsers one called mobile and one called mini
the one called mini is a java app which transfer all requests passed the opera server for comrpesion to be faster and i guess that can cause latency
ahh,
Im using Mobile 9.5 on the 1.37 rom.
Are you sure that it's opera and not e.g. O2 at fault? Have you tried the same site in PIE?
as rubbish as pocket ie is, i never have the problem in ie or opera mini.
The built in opera browser is chronic slow getting the requests out. Downloading is great but clicking links takes forever.
It's annoying because my P1i was blistering fast and I'm starting to see kinks in the browsing experience on the Diamond.
agreed, even on wifi its the same. waah

Internet Timeout on AT&T Tilt

Mmkay all you xda wizards, I need a bit of guidance here...
I have not yet switched over my browser on my Tilt, and I was wondering two things:
a.) I am working with IE which sucks, of course. I am able to open my browser successfully about three or four times, but after that it shows my homepage addy in the bar, but does not load. I have the Kaiser Tweak on my phone, but I was wondering if there is a setting that will prevent me from having to soft reset my phone when this happens,
b.) I had previously posted a question about switching browsers (h/t to those who made suggestions). I tried one, whose name I cannot recall, and my beef was that it was a pain to have to constantly zoom in on the part of the page I wanted to view. I was told Opera would be a good browser for me-I am really interested in being able to open multiple tabs-and could someone tell me if switching to the Opera browser would do anything to help this data timeout.
Thanks for the help all...I love this site because I am pretty clueless on this type of thing.
get skyfire
Use anything but Pocket IE. I have the following free good browsers installed on my device: Iris Browser, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, Bolt Browser, and Skyfire. My most used browsers are Skyfire and Opera Mobile, but I use different browsers for different things. Try each one to see which ones you like best.

Opera doesn't connect as well as PIE

Greetings. Using Opera 9.5 build 2392 and pocket internet explorer, WM 6.1. Standard ROM that came with the device, clean "no bloatware" boot. 3g with HSPDMA (?) enabled.
Why doesn't Opera work as well as PIE at connecting to sites? Especially the "media net home" page device.home. I can't hit that at all with Opera, only with PIE.
I've tried the "enable/disable cingular proxy" cabs but it didn't change anything, after enabling or disabling.
Thanks for any help, I've searched but have not seen this particular item addressed.
I have Opera 8.65 beta with flash support on my Tilt, and it literally SUCKS!!! A waste of $24. What it takes Opera to open a website, PIE can get it in less than half the time. Advice: DO NOT MAKE OPERA A DEFAULT BROWSER!

Viewing Internet Explorer

I have an AT&T Tilt and only used WIFI since i don't live in the U.S. I previously owned the Cingular 8125 and never had a problem surfing the web on it. Now that i have the TiLT i have serious issues surfing the web. The text is extremly small.
I changed the view to the largest but still no luck. Does anyone know if there's a specific setting i should be initiating? OR is there a cab out there to change the text size in internet explorer? The only websites that are showing normally is GOOGLE and EBAY. Anyone Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Scroll down to Windows Mobile 5/6 PPC, Professional, Classic 8.65 and download. Opera has a very handy zoom feature. Internet Explorer Mobile 6 does as well, but I think that only comes in Windows 6.5 ROMS.

This is the ROM I'm running now, and I'm quite happy with it. Both IE and Opera come installed in the rom, both can zoom, both are fairly quick and stable, and features are easy to get to. Plus you can thumb-scroll the page. Can't do that with IE that came stock on the Kaiser series. If you decide to go with the ROM, read up carefully. It's not hard, just follow the instructions.
Most importantly, read this one;

Best advice I can give ya is the ROM I linked to., after reading Mskips tutorial thoroughly. Next best advice is to at least go with Opera. I don't even have PIE so I couldn't even play with it and see if I could figure something out for you.
Viewing Internet Pages
thankyou that worked perfectly! Now i can view internet pages clearly. I think Opera is the best browser for my Tilt!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help needed with browser problem!

I love my SGS exept for the gps (which i can't do anything about) and a prob with the browser.. The problem with my browser is that it only works if I use wifi! It doesn't work with 3g or gprs or anything like it! Every other app can use the connections (3g etc) including the opera browser! I've tried resetting the browsers settings but no effect. My firmware version is: I9000XXJM2 and it is not rooted. My provider is Scarlet and I'm dutch (excuse my bad english ). Any help/suggestions would be appreciated
i think it's your network provider that is blocking you.
that's why it works on WiFi and not on GPRS/EDGE/3G
i read another user had the same problem, you 2 might be in the same network
all other software works on GPRS (email, android market, etc) just not the WWW (port 80)
your network operator is monitoring that port for some reason
But why would opera browser work if that is the case? and the other apps too?
opera doesn't download the stuff as a normal browser does
it goes through their own opera servers, then back to your phone
if you use the Full Opera on the PC, they have all those features to "Turbo" "Share" etc etc etc... all those things goes back to the central opera server
on the mobile version of opera, it by default will always use the turbo mode, which means it filters out junk, to speed up the load time, and dither the pictures so you don't download the full picture size.
OK, now searching another SIM to test I'll keep you updated
Edit:
Found SIM and tried and indeed, this one does work! Very strange! Well tomorrow I'm changing provider
thanks for the help anyway
you're welcome
