Hi, I just realized that the PgDwn key on my Kaiser came/clipped off recently. Luckily I found it quick enough.
I noticed that there is some amount of play in other adjoining keys -- and I am not sure if they would soon come off too.
I am thinking of sticking the clipped off keys back on -- maybe with crazy glue. Is this adviceable? or should I just contact the manufacturer (HTC) for replacement since it is still new and under warranty -- how long will it usually take? And what is the process?
Regards, MN
Hello guys,
I got my new X1 few days ago, and today when i woke up i found out that the screen is not responding to touch...the stylus does nothing. I attempted a hard reset, but I can't align the screen because the stylus still does not work.
I managed to go to today screen and the mouse is working perfectly but touching the screen is not working at all, even through alignment.
No apparent cause to that.
Any idea how to fix this issue?
Thank you,
Try doing a reflash (with the generic ROM so that u won't lose the warranty)
If that doesn't work...i'm affraid there's nothing left to do but go and replace the touchscreen (it's still in warranty isn't it)
Sorry pal
Oww, sounds like a bad problem. You should indeed try a hard reset (though from what I see you've already tried).
If that's a no-go, it's warranty time. I guess you got unlucky. Good luck patching it up!
You can try installing X1 SoftTouch which will max out the responsiveness of your touchscreen in the registry without having to calibrate. I'm not highly optimistic it will work in your case but it won't hurt to try. The .cab is here:

Well guys,
you will never believe it, i read in a forum that some guy faced the same problem with another WM device and he moved the battery and left it overnight and the second day the phone was alive again.
Guess what? I did the same and amazingly it worked.
By the way thank you (ring-bearer) for the cab file, i installed it and it has improved the touch responsiveness.
Touchscreen Fixed
Hi Thanks for that. I tried the take the battery out and leave it over night trivk and it worked for me to! Brilliant! Upgraded the touchscreen with the cab file to - all good. Thanks again.
for me this trick (remove the battery for one day) doesn't work.
also i changed the touchscreen but no results.
maybe the problem is somewhere else
From searching this forum, I can tell that others are having the same issue I am having. It started out with just a couple keys and now about 50% of my keys require me to push really hard for them to type. It is not a lag issue as covered by another thread. It just feels like the there may be dirt or something under the keys that makes it harder to type. This issue also is not ROM related as I have flashed my device with several ROMS with the same result.
Has anyone had any luck taking apart the keyboard and cleaning underneath the keys? If so -- maybe post some tips on what worked or not.
Thanks.
I'd vote for compressed air
I agree. You might be able to disassemble the phone and take the keyboard out and use compressed air. That would make certain that all the dirt is really out of the board...
A work mate of mine did this the other day. He took it fully apart and cleaned it out with contact cleaner. Ill ask him wether it worked or not but I think it did because I saw him using the phone today.
contact cleaner
I've never heard of contact cleaner. I'll have to try that. After looking at this video for disassembly, it doesn't look like you can get underneath the keys. How did your co-worker do it? Pop off the keys like a laptop keyboard?
I guess some older thread on how to replace Kaiser keyboard will be useful.
Found this
About screen, but went through keyboard also ..

Yes, I found that as well and it was not of much use. The problem is not removing the keyboard from the phone. The problem is getting underneath the keys. You can see the keyboard front/back removed from my attached image. According to this other thread #119, #126, #127 they say it is impossible to get at the keypad underneath.
I might just take a can of compressed air and spray on top of the keys as best I can to see if it helps.

Hmmm, seems that no other way but perhaps replace the keyboard ..
You cant get under the "actual" keyboard without breaking it off the housing. The keys can be pulled off from the top, but the actual buttons are sealed below.
For what little it cost, just replace the whole thing and problems are solved. Just did my son and daughters couple weeks ago.
Im foolish I forgot to ask him about it. Thinking back he may have damaged it lol. He does kind of charge into things and then realise he cant fix it.
Agree with carhigh, just replace the whole thing. Kaiser parts not that expensive nowadays. Just need time to open it up.
I have the same problem. Tried blowing compressed air from the top, but didn't have much success with the keys. I'll probably get a new keypad and replace it!
Sorry if this is a common question but where do people recommend getting kaiser parts? My N key and spacebar dont work without pressing it really hard and it's doing my head in!
Cheers.

Your problem will slowly get worse. More and more keys will require extra pressure. Not sure where you could buy a replacement now (the phone is kind of old). After attempting to clean the keyboard, I gave up. I am just using onscreen keyboard program that is included in TPC's ROM. I think it is called finger keyboard. After a little practice, I am actually faster typing on that than I was with sliding the keyboard.
Try this guys - worked for me in fixing my S key:

Ah. Did not realize the keyboard did not come out of the housing...
So here is my story.. i have a perfectly working kaiser, and one with a broken lcd.. but both of them are in terrible cosmetic condition.. so i decide to order from ebay a full housing (with keyboard included) to make it look good and give it to my brother as a present..
I perfectly disassemble the device with the working screen and easily install it in the new housing.. but when i turn it on i realise that the only working hardware keyboard buttons were q e u o f h l and some arrows i think...
My first conclusion was that the keyboard included in the housing was not working correctly so i decide to use my old one. but to my surprise the old keyboard also has only the same working buttons!!!
after that i also tried the keyboard from my other kaiser ( with the broken screen) with the same results.
So up to this point, i guess it is safe to assume that the keyboards have no problem.. but then the mystery grows cause i exchanged every single piece of the phone with the broken kaiser's parts and the problem remains the same...
Any idea?? i am an engineer and problems like that that i cannot think of a reason that they are happening drive me nuts!!! please help me sleep at nights..
thanx in advance!
Hooray! Someone else who has the exact same problem as me! The phone I have had the LCD screen replaced and once it was reassembled, the keyboard is wacky. I tried reseating it and the same keys you mention are the only ones working: Q E U O F H L, CAP/Shift, Tab, Space, Enter and the 4 arrow keys. Nothing else works. I'd love to see if anyone has a solution to our problem. =)
Also, I'm not sure if it does it for you but the backlighting doesn't turn back on once it goes off - even when pressing the working keys. I found other posts on this forum with similar problems (with no replies) but their keyboards were not working at all. There has to be a simple solution that we're missing if it's this common.
Thats really weird that we have the same keys working... it really has to be something we are missing... but i have changed everything..
the only thing i didnt change is the lcd, so now that you are telling me that this happened only after you changed the lcd, it got me thinking that maybe the lcd is not as inocent as it may seem... cause,ok, my first thought was like wtf the lcd couldnt mess up with the keyboard.. but now that i think about it it is the only thing i havent tried to replace.. i have a broken one but still quite operative, so i will try with this one and get back at you.. if in the meanwhile anyone else knows something or has an idea, please help a little bit!
Like you, I cannot find any reason between the keyboard and the screen that would cause this. They're not connected in any way or share any cables. They connect to different parts of the main board... there's no logic that I can find.
I got mine second-hand and the original owner said she had the LCD replaced because of a couple dead pixels. The keyboard was working fine before that. Let me know what you find out. I was planning on ordering a replacement keyboard assembly from eBay but since you've tried a couple, that saves me from wasting that money.
Unfortunatelly the extra LCD i had was not operating at all, so the test i wanted to do failed, and i still dont know whats causing the problem... i am more or less convinced that i have to buy a new lcd but it is a bit of a risk to change the screen because some buttons on the keyboard dont work, dont you think?? anyway i am wondering y nobody else has nothing to say... this hasnt happened to anyone else??

thank you for your reply! but i don't understand how this would help for our problems..
i talked with htc yesterday and they told me it couldnt be the lcd, but during the lcd replacement probably the flexiboard was a little torned (needs a microscope to be verified..) i am giving it for a free test on monday so i guess i l have a more detailed answer soon!!

Hmm, that's an interesting find. It's odd that the same problem exists on different phones, unless it's a common section/piece of the board/assembly that gets damaged. Are you going to try and use the assembly from your other phone? Let me know what happens. I'd like to know what piece I need to buy to get mine working again. =)
My Xperia X1 had a fall and the screen glass was broken heavily, so I bought from ebay a cheap replacement screen+digitizer (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300628817380), today I got it, and went ahead and installed it following online guides on the diassembly of the X1, all went ok (the guide did not say how to separare the broken glass from the screen itself, so i went ahead by some force.
But after the assembly, the phone is not accepting any touch input, I am sure I put back all cables and contacts in their correct location, but no touch is working
is the digitizer not a compatible one? how can I be sure of it? I don't want to spend a lot on fixing this phone, it is old and slow, I want to use it as a second sim holder.
Thanks in advanced....
i diassembled and reassembled the device and now touch works...

Greetings,
As I said in my old post, after re-assembling the device a second time the touch works again, but this time I did something and the backlight remains always on, which is consuming all the battery.
Did not investigate more in the issue, my X1 is in the drawer for the moment.
