how to change this text?
How do I change the title of a thread that has already been in progress?
Never mind. Changing first post title doesn't seem to work...
I think edit has been opening already in advanced mode for me. If I use a second tab and edit a second thread the advanced button becomes visible and when pressed takes me to what I normally see.
Doing that changes the text when veiwed from within the thread, but from the forum it is not changed. Above i added the <test> but it dose not show up in the forum. Dose it take some time to take effect?
You're right. I was so sure this would work I posted without testing. Sorry.
Just tried it on one of my old threads and it doesn't update.
Strange...
Hum, I can't even do it and I have mod satus, I will post this in the mod section and see if an admin can point us in the correct area.
Hi Guys,
Admins and mods can change this by going to thread tools -> edit thread.
I changed some settings which should enable the thread starter to also change this.
OdeeanRDeathshead: can you test whether you can now change this?
Thanks in advance,
Flar
This is my Title and I can change it if I want to.
Now I see it,
Over edit and advanced you can change the title of the message but not the thread. Over Thread tools the thread.
But can the starter of a thread change his own title (I am not sure if he has thread tools, I would think not).
We wait to find out
Any place I can get the thread tolls to drop down, they do not contain the edit thread option. I still would like to be able to do this.
solution:
Hi Guys,
figured it out:
We wanted to give the user who started the thread unlimited time to change the thread title, therefore we changed some settings to a "default" unlimited setting. We've found out that this is not yet an enabled feature by the software developers.
In short: we must set a time limit within which the user who started the thread is allowed to change the title.
We've set this time limit to a week, within a week after starting the thread the user who started the thread can change the title.
This can be done simply by editing the post title, thread tools are only available to moderators and admins. (this is not how I thought this up, it's simply how the software works)
Hope this helps.
Greetz,
Flar
Thank you for your effort Flar. I think a week is too small. For example, I wanted to change the thread title on my GSMbeam thread to show that there was a security update. With ongoing stuff like that it takes weeks-months between the first post and the ongoing refinements. Why not just let the author have a very long period, a year would be good, to alter the thread title. I can understand that you may be concerned that people may totaly alter their titles after a while to get fresh interest in old threads but my motivations are valid. I leave it in your hands but if you can't give more time then perhaps a moderator could change the text to what I edited my first post in that thread to be.
I feel the poster should be able to edit his subject with no time llimit.
Lets take software, user x post appl y ver sion 1.0, then upgrades his first post with ver 2.0. He should change his own tiltle.
Sure mods could do it, admins as well, but do we want to ??
I agree as well. And I think its not just for those who post software (though as one of them I would like the option). Many 'fresh users' (my polite way of saying n00bs) start off with titles like "Pleeeeeees help me" or "Urgent!". I don't need to point out the problems with such titles and why they often prevent the poster from receiving an answer.
Often though they receive an advice and should be able to follow it and change the title to something more useful without having to bother the mods who I am sure are busy as it is.
If the software won't allow permanent permission to change the title it should be set to the longest period allowed (hope its more that a week).
I need to set a limit so i'm really sorry I can't put this on unlimited.
As soon as this option comes available I'll change this.
Untill that time I've set the maximum to a year.
Greetz,
Flar
thanks it worked now
Hi everybody,
Though i am new one here but i always try mybest to search well before posting any thread. And after spending a month or so on this forum i like to float an idea ( although i am not sure if somebody else propose that aswell and if so then please accept my applogies ) anyway here is the idea...
> It would be great help for members ( specially new ones ) if the first post ( a downloadable file ) include all the submitted post titles or post subject of that forum and its updated automatically. In that way everybody download the file and read/search the file for his/her specific problem.
Becuase most of the time problems already addressed on the forum but because of the simple variation in search words; a member assume that he is facing a unique problem.
> Secondly; i'll appreciate if somebody guide me that how can i increase the viewing posts per page e.g. from 20 to 100 may be or diaplay all the posts from a specific date ? e.g today...
Thanks ( and sorry again if these ideas already posted by someone else )
Just use the sites google search facility for the first idea and secondly USER CP, EDIT OPTIONS, Thread display options.
Does anybody know of any good calendar app, as the default one does suck a bit.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
I searched all day and found nothing before posting this, if you can find a thread so easily with the information I need, then a direct link would be useful.
Really?!? By "searched all day", exactly what time span does this entail? The reason that no one has replied to this thread is because it can very easily be found by searching. Try
a) searching for "calendar replacement" with titles only yields 4 results (1 including your thread)
b) searching for "calendar" yields a whopping 500 thread count page of results
c) searching for "better calendar" yields 20 threads
Sooo...I could give you the search ids, however, I don't think that would be as helpful as you may believe. If you need help on how to search and where to type things in, I'd be more than happy to assist.
I've tried several and found ThumbCal to be very finger-friendly. http://www.thumbapps.com
after a MILLION posts of " i've searched everywhere and i've found no answer to my problem! PLZ HLP ME AHHH!!"
this is how you search effectively...before having to add another thread and make it even harder to find things.
on any page of any forum u can click on the search pulldown menu at the top of the page.
instead of typing in the search box, click on BUILT IN FORUM SEARCH. on the next page first thing is to go to the middle of the page on the left hand side and click on "show results as" POSTS" not threads
next type in the keywords or username and any other options. use as little as possible at first use and as simple keywords as possible, i.e. without ...ing ..ed..s 's ly, or any or that stuff just root words.
THREAD SEARCH
If you know you are in the right thread, dont forget to use the THREAD SEARCH right of center on the top of the first post on the page
YOU WILL FIND YOUR ANSWER QUICK!!! happy searching and I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
If anyone has any other suggestions please add and help out!! Happy Hacking!!
Also Help By Rating Threads, Reporting out of place or offensive posts, and searching.
i searched a little before doing this, but only went as far as the stickies.
what is the point of this....
the audience you want to read this will not search for it, nor will this become a sticky, because if you read the stickies themselves, you would know this has been said. even if it does, you know noobs wont read it
I have a problem when I search for posts by a user. For example if I search posts by indie I get a page of results ordered his last posts. But when trying to click on any of them shows me not to post selected shows one near me but not selected.
I reported the error several times but never received a response. Maybe my configuration problem.
I hope your answer. thanks
