What these companies are doing is DIRTY.
They clearly have the potential to release the new OS for almost ALL modern pocket PCs, but since they don't see any profit in it, they will never release it.
I could accept this, IF they stopped dangling the OS on Blue Angels for all of us to see.

They can't charge enough for a WM2005 upgrade that would be better for them than forcing us to buy new phones.
They won't do it.

I have an Ipaq 5550. The same happened with HP when wm2k3SE came out. Petitions, news coverage and all. HP prefered the short term view of selling more devices rather than cultivating customer loyalty.
That was my first and last Ipaq. I have Himalaya and BA now...
Just think of the risk/benefit ratio for MS...
We know that ASA official wm2k5 would be released for BA & Himalaya , it would be made largely available by third party means...
I'm not bringing "morality" issues in the plate here. I just say that business-wise, the effort to put that in place compared to the benefits is pretty low... Especially if you compare that to the benefits of a "no-release" scenario: you will ALWAYS end-up paying for the license when you feel BA/Himalaya and all the rest becomes obsolete and you will replace your HW. 3G is not so far away, is it? 3G + BT + 802.11A/G is not so far away either...
Nobody likes it. I don't like it. But in the end, that's the most likely.
As they say: hope for the best, expect the worse!

how would you do that?? unless its released for BA and jam and xda2i ..you cant just make it work on other devices.. take example from the himalaya rom we have unless you have himalaya you cant use it..
thus.. if its never ever released for other htc models you can NEVER EVER get it for other devices... reason being a simple one.. different hardware,different memory allocation and management and different bootloaders etc..
if you dont believe me just try flashing your device with the win2k5 rom and end up with a very expensive paperweight ...

Honestly, I have no problem supporting and paying for proper service and upgrades. As well as the work Microsoft put into the development of the new OS, which from what I've heard, is a significant positive step.
I guess part of the reason that they aren't releasing it, even at cost, is exactly in response to people like you, joey jojo, who would just pirate it instead of paying. The way I figure it, alot of people with these expensive fancy devices know their way around technology, and a significant part will know how to get WM2005 for free, avoiding the costs.
Providing an OS upgrade for these devices at a cost would never work. These companies aren't exactly stupid.

I think it isn't meant to be released at all yet, really.
I think the "release" was to developers first, and soon enough you will see a hoarde of new devices, as well as a new ROM for ours.

The head of the MS Exchange team uses a Blue Angel...with Exchange SP2. To get full functionality, I guarantee he is running SP2.
They aren't using the BA as a development platform only to dump it. They are just waiting til key things (like Exchange SP2) come into place.

P1 has done a lot for this forum including support a lot of people that needed help. Aside from that I am sure he has helped many cooks testing their work before they published it to this forum. He has done beta testing for ROMS that you might have used in the past or might be running now. I see him as one fo the key people that keeps information moving in this forum. Those are just my two cents.

ohhh myyyy gooood, you have got to be kidding me, the man dropped his phone in oil, if you want to donate then do so, if not don't, p1tater has a BIG reputation, the fact that he has a FTP site for everyone to use was well worth the donation i made. you can find all kinds of cool FREE software to download for FREE. If thats not justification for a donation i don't know what is. Also if you had dropped your phone in oil and helped a bunch of people on here wouldn't you hope that others would donate. Just for the fact of being able get him a new device so he can help beta test to make the programs you download work properly. you should be ashamed of even righting what you did.

Nobody need to sell you the idea because this is a DONATION.
Engrish is my 2nd language but I do understand the meaning and spirit of the word. If you dont , please look up in the dictionary.

important factor: P1tater himself did not ask for any donation. We doing it not for benefit nor fame , not even to prove that my pocket is deeper than yours. We do it cuz he is our fellas in the XDA care bear club.

Hi guys,
I have been using Dutty's Roms for Kaiser and for Diamond, but now it seems that my road and Dutty's have separated: he bought a Touch HD and began cooking roms for this ppc.
Unfortunately, Dutty doesn't have a Xperia and can't cook roms for it.
I have been pm-ing Dutty and he has offered to consider cooking for us.
I believe that it is once again a demonstration of how this man outperforms the already-high forum standards for cookers.
So I have decided to open a thread for all the people here in Xperia Forums who are willing to help Dutty to cook for them.
There is obviously no need at all to contribute by money, but I am sure that any contribution would be very appreciated as Dutty doesn't have a Xperia and it is quite difficult to cook without having a phone on hand.
I don't think that Dutty will feel obliged to cook, but also don't think that he will start cooking only when he is having a Xperia on hand.
Dutty has never cook "by request" and moreover we must not let him feel compelled at all to cook in a different way than his normal Dutty-styled Rom.
A Dutty-styled Rom is what I am hoping for.
It would be - by the very Dutty's words - a WWE ROM, as close to factory but tweaked and changed in some stuff , made faster and for it too be stable and if possibly implement some new stuff.
Due to heavy-duty Christmas Holydays, Dutty can't start cooking now but after holidays.
So, my friends, let's start the raising.
Thanks to Xmoo, a brand new Xperia can be had for £350.

As requested by couple users who PMed about cooking for experia, I just recieve a HD and start cooking for it and also during the holidays season i am spending time with my family. I totally agree with [ ninja.rogue] above a dutty rom is a dutty rom and I will try my best to endeavour in such a rom, i will also if successful with a WWE rom will try and do some translation as I started my first with HD.
If this is not wha tyou want fro ma chef, I accept all ur sincerity of asking me to cook a rom for u guys .

someone like dutty is really needed to spice things up a bit over this almost dead place. what the people above have done is quite amazing. they have already managed to reduced the price to less than half the original 600 pounds is quite a short period of time. buying famous cooks is a very interesting (and funny) concept.
a bunch of ideas:
-if someone over here is from SE or close to them, it might be a worth a shot to convince them to give (or at least loan) a device to dutty
-dutty, how about donating $150 to yourself to greatly speed things up. you may not have use for an addtional phone now but im sure you can find some use for an "almost" free XPERIA.

is this a good idea??
if dutty unlocks or unprotects his x1 roms, a lot of people will base their future roms on his work. hence making future cookers job a lot easier and hence increasing the number of avalable roms in the future. and it will ensure a good supply of new ROMs even after he leaves the Xperia scene. the problem is that most of the famous cookers use htc sold devices
im sure potental cookers will be more willing to donate if dutty is willing to unprotects his rom.
im pretty sure that dutty hates me now with all these suggestions

The point is Dutty is probably the best Cook on xda. I for one have used his roms for 3 previous devices. He makes devices work how they should. The only one you have probably offended by your comment is Dutty.

and as thankful user I would like to donate my Himalaya to somebody of developers on this site. I hope it will help to build more good and stable roms.
Himalaya (originally it's I-mate / Qteck) fully working, it comes with additional battery, earphones, cradle and leathercase. maybe something more, I don't remember already.
touch screen of the device is burst in several places, but is still working. for development use you don't have to replace it.
that's all about it.
now how to get? I live in Israel, so you pay only shipping or in a month I'm gonna visit Germany(Nurnberg) and I can take it with me.
btw: I do not speak english very well, so sorry

My suggestion is to send Master Ather90 the Hima. He's a little older than 18 and his last Hima is broken. So he left our forum and switched to another. He was one of our most activ developers and reacht moderator status. The problem for you might be his place, as he lives in Bahrain, but fro Germany it is no problem to send via DHL as a gift, with custom declaration. As the device is worth aproximately 50€, it is possible that he has to pay a small amont of tax.
I think, a lot of people miss him and his work, so you would do us a big favoir.

I posted it today. Cool, Poland is member of the EU. So, I didn't have to make a customs declaration, although I get used to it, in the meantime.
I like the imagination of a customs officer reading it. A handy device with spare parts like crandle, second battery, power supply and a bonus gift worth less than 20€.
