Dead Charmer... maybe - MDA Compact II Software Upgrading

Hi all,
I tried to upgrade my MDA compact II (HTC Charmer) to WM6, but during the first step, downgrading to the "no vendor" version I made a mistake. A used a wrong version, it was for Prophet. After the final reboot, the device froze in the splashscreen "T-Mobile". After that I tried to do exactly the same with a "Charmer" version, but it didn't help me, the situation was the same.
However, now I'm able to flash successfully only the last vendor provided ROM update "RUU_Compact_ll_2060227_20602110_021921_T-MobileUK_Ship.exe", but it doesn't help me anyway, my Charmer is still freezing in the splashscreen. I tried to downgrade it , but the application gives the following error: "UPGRADE ONLY". When I try to make a hard-reset, and after that to confirm the factory settings by pressing "Yes" (green) button, the result is "Format FAT partition" and then "format is failed".
Only the bootloader is working now as well as the battery charging. Please, help me to turn back to the life my Charmer!
And one additional question: can I perform a CID unlocking just by ROM-flashing or the device must be fully operable?

After that, you should be able to make hard reset. If you succeed, flash "RUU_Compact_ll_2060227_20602110_021921_T-MobileUK_Ship.exe" - that.

I am a new use an recently got an MDA PM200. I am in exactly the same situation as petrun. I have tried the flash suggested by vlodeck but it doesn't work, saying incorrect vendor ID (I guess that's because it's for a Prophet?).
What should I do next...?

I successfully flashed my Charmer with this Prophet ROM:

After that I succeed to format the FAT partition (finally ). But I cannot after all to flash the latest official MDA compact II firmware. There is two possible events, which I experienced:
1. When I try to use the original flashing application, I get the following response: "UPGRADE ONLY".
2. When I try to flash the official MDA compact II ROM, but through the "No ID" application, I get "INVALID COMMAND".
Just for explication, now my device cannot boot, it freezes in the splashscreen (it is Qtek now, not T_Mobile...) and the following versions could be read:
IPL 2.06
SPL 2.20.0000
GSM 02.47.21
OS 2.20.7.34
So, how I can do that? What should I do further? I would like to unlock my Charmer, but should I firstly make it operable?

By the way, all described above I tried sevetal times with the same result.
The other thing is that... all links about the CID unlocking downloads, which I found here are no longer active. Any alternatives?

Incredibly, but it's a fact! After successfull FAT formating I probably didn't wait long enough. Today I turned on my Charmer and several seconds after the splashscreen "QTEK" it successffully booted in WM5, performed all settings and finally started to work!
It's GSM module works, the Bluetooth works, I am able to start different applications. Just the camera does not work. And the most strange thing for me is that this ROM was for Prophet, not for Charmer
So, after all, how to proceed to upgrade to WM6? Now the bootloader is above ver.2.
Should I firstly flash it with proper ROM (for Charmer) or it's not necessary?
Should I unlock it as is now (Prophet ROM)?
Vlodeck, I rely mostly on you, since the WM6 with Touch FLO is your creation.

You dont have to CID unlock. Just flash that WWE T-mobile WM5 AKU2 for Charmer. Good luck.

Maybe I am boring, but steel need an advice: I cannot flash "WWE T-mobile WM5 AKU2".
1. The original RUU gives me "UPGRADE ONLY", maybe because my SPL after flashing the Prophet ROM is 2.20
2. This "NO ID RUU":

reaches 2% and gives "INVALID COMMAND", after that - only bootloader screen.

cannot open the nk.nbf image (but works with other images), I don't know why.

If you cant flash the AKU 2 charmer rom, then go for AKU3.3 rom (can be german, that doesnt matter). Once done that, flash wm6.

Of course it cannot connect with ActiveSync, the device doesn't boot. One certain solution for bricked Charmer is Prophet ROM:

In order to flash this, you should enter the bootloader, without using the ActiveSync. After that try to perform a hard reset, you probably will succeed to format the FAT partition.

I have a charmer and I was trying to update to wm6. I can´t because the ipl is 1.12. I updated rom to german aku 3.3. But I can´t hard reset. format error. I´m trying to put prophet rom to format it, but when I send the prophet rom, it always give me an error at 95%. error 326 - this nbf file cannot be used fo your pda phone. please check your nbf file. the aku3.3 rom flashes ok. any idea?? I try tu send a radio rom. after that is the same. 95%error. please help. I can´t bring my charmerback to life.

I updated from T-Mobile AKU 3.3 GER to WM6 and flashed back to WM5 without problems, but when flashing again to WM6 from vlodeck my charmer didn't boot anymore and had that "Format is failed"-problem when making a hard reset. I could not recover my device until now with the method explained in this thread cause of the problems "error 326 - This nbf file cannot be used for your pda phone". So the Prophet Rom does not seem to work with boot loader 3.x. Has anyone any idea? Please help! Thank you very much in advance!

Charmer crashed with the new Aku 3.3!

Hello!
I tried to flash my Charmer with the new german Aku 3.3. At first everything seems to be ok, but at 95% it stops and i got the Message: update error- there is an comunication problem! So what can i do? I tried to flash the old rom back but there comes also at 95% a message: invalid command - nfb file cannot be used for your pda!
Please help me !

Go to bootloader mode, then try to flash RUU rom (1.x). You can find it on Charmer wiki.

Yes i tried hard reset, but it is always in bootloader!

I have also the same problem. Tried to upgrade to version 3.3. Everytime it stops at 80%. I don't know why?! I can repair it with the software and re-run it. But it has the same effect.
Now i will try to downgrade to 2.6 again. I really don't understand what causes the problem. I hope i will get this thing running again....
EDIT: I reflashed the device with the older 2.6 ROM and it is working right now. However I didn't really get why it gets stuck at 80% with 3.3 ?!?!

The aku3.3 is up to date the bootloader version!!!
IPL and ISP version now is 3.00.

I can´t downgrade to AKU 2: Please order a newer Version.
Every try to upgrade to AKU 3.3 failed at 95% with Error 326.

Ok no problem you can repair it! At first you have to brand your device with the rom you want to! After 95% the Problem will come again! When it stops you have to go with a reset to bootloader again.When your device is in bootloader you have to install the Radio Rom from this thread:

After that your device will be able to boot again and it should work!- But the Problem during the installation will stay,so you have always to use this way to flash your Mda compact II!
In the new rom there must be a problem with the radio rom and this causes the broken device.

You can try different Radio Rom versions, i have flashed the v.247.11 and it worked.

have a charmer. I tried to put wm6. but spl and ipl was 1.12. the phone start up and hang when installing some cabs. i restart ir and it allways crashes at t-mobile logo. i updated the rom to aku 3.3. all ok. but continues chashing on t-mobile logo. i try a hard reset. gives me a fat error. I try to put the rom from prophet to try to format it. but that rom upgrade reach 95% and stop. give me a error. this nbf file cannot be used to upgrade this device. I tryed all types of roms. most of them crashes at some point and give me that error. the rom aku 3.3 german and wwe, install perfect. I think that is the only roms I can send to my charmer. but i can´t format whith that rom, fat error. I have 3.08 spl ipl 1.12 because i sent an old charmer rom. ipl downgrade, but spl don´t. do you think my device can be protected?? I dont know that to do more, to bring the charmer back to life. will sd card method work? please help me.

iam stuped and make an wm6 update from ipl1.12 and i have forgot to cid unlock my charmer.
after the update to wm6 all looks like good. the bootscreen from wm6 i have see.
after the reset the charmer hangs at slashscreen.
now i make a update to aku 3.3 ger.
that works but hangs in the t-mobile spaschscreen.
i have tray all downgrading methodes i have read here but nothing works.
jet i have a ipl 1.12. and spl 3.08.
I think only a sd-card rom update works. but i dont have found an sd-card rom to use.

Hi, I have a similar may be the same problem!
My phone is a German t-mobile mda compact 2
First I work with “lokiwiz v.02” to unlock the SIM, and it works really well.
Then I installed “Charmer_Touch_ver._2.1” and I could calibrate the screen, and after that Win Mobile 6 installed all the extra stuff automatically. After that the device made a reboot, but it stop at the t-mobile boot screen.
Because the bootload modus is still running, I installed the newest original t-mobile software “RUU_compactII_AKU3.3_38222_382117_026921R_TMO_DE_GER_Ship” but this also didn’t solve the problem.
Hard reset didn't work and always says "Format is

I think noone have a solution for us. I tried to send commands to phone whith mtty. and I can´t send. I don´t know why. so f we cannot send commands the sd card method will not work too. the only olution is to jtag the charmer. but can´t find any pinout information. if anyone knows this informtion, please help.

Is my K-Jam totally bricked?
It is now stuck up in bootloader screen.
I am able to swtch it off with power button. I can also have first flash screen.
On connecting with USB port, it shows yellow light indicating that it is charging & that over a period of time, goes green.
Earlier I had flashed TNT ROM but while reflashing newer it got stuck up as after flashing, I tried to hard reset [mistakenly thought ROM is flushed fully] & could not go further after initail first screen.
Other details:
IPL:2.16
SPL:2.16
GSM:02.07.10
O.S.:11.0.0.2
May some one help?

Nopes ! its not 'Bricked' just had a bad flash. As long as it gets into bootloaders ,its perfectly safe. Perhaps,your phone is not CID unlocked ?
Download the official carrier's rom from its website and flash it in the bootloaders,it'll start to work fine.Then read the guide to cid unlock and upgrade.

i am having serious problems with my kjam.i installed black diamond's rom and now my phone boots upto the splash screen where it shows window mobile 6 and gets stuck there.
i have tried a soft spl, but it doesnt help as the phone cant connect or move from the splash screen.also, i can make call or do anything with the phone.
can someone assist me and also point me to a place where i can find the lastest tnt rom.

Always post vital data of the phone,which is your device G3 or G4.Have you Tried Soft Reset or Hard Reset.it sometimes help.
Well,if it's a G3,is it SIM/CID unlocked,cuz its required to get the phone CID unlocked to upgrade to wm6,but if its a G4,then use method 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL' as it cannot be CID unlocked.
Post IPL/SPL...? of the phone here.
You can find all the latest wm6 Roms in 'Wizard Mobile 6' forum.

'Hard Reset' the phone,hope it'll work fine.
Well,I assume,you cudn't do the SoftSPL correctly the first time,try to apply the SpftSPL again correctly,if it works,ok,otherwise you can upgrade to wm6 with HardSPL method.

Please HELP. SPL 1.09 and stuck

hi guys,
i was excited about the new Radio upgrade, so i tried to flash it. i got an error, because my SPL is 2.05. so i tried to unlock the phone using jerpelea's guide, flash to 1.09 -->success, then WWE (1.10) but an error occured saying invalid vendor ID during WWE flash. now i have SPL 1.09 on my phone and my phone is stuck on the 2nd boot screen of jerpelea's WM6.1 beta 4 ROM. my phone is fully unlocked using jerpelea's unlock guide, that's how i got to install SPL 1.09 successfully. how can i recover my phone? please help.
Update 1: i tried to flash back the original dopod 595 WM5 ROM. i mixed the RUU updater from the latest official ROM with the nbh from dopod WM5 ROM. the flashing works. when it's 100%, the phone reboots and, i got back to the same problem. stuck at 2nd/3rd boot screen. i now have IPL-0.90 and SPL 1.09 on my phone. Please help me to recover my phone. i've tried to hard SPL shown in the wiki guide, doesnt work. says invalid vendor ID crap. i really dont know what to do now.
Update 2: when the device boots, it stucks on the 2nd/3rd boot screen and if the USB cable is attached, for a brief moment, windows can detect the phone and i can even browse the content of the phone from my PC. but after that, the device disconnects itself and just remain stuck at the 2nd/3rd boot screen. the device appears to be totally freezed/hang. even the LED charging indicator will not turn off when i unplug the device from computer
i believe what i need to do now is to make a nbh image that is signed to i dont get any corrupted image message when trying to flash. i used HTC ROM editor to mix and match the SPL and IPL file so that i can downgrade the SPL to 2.05 and upgrade it again later. but i dont know how to sign nbh files.

I think I know what do you mean. My device was in very same state like yours few mnonths ago.
Try to run mtty and the command "info 2" without quotes.
Do not forget to disable USB on activesync settings before running mtty.
You will get an answer which includes the CID of your device.
If not (this was my case), you have to send it to the repair center probably.
My device CID was Qtek_A07 (RUS) and I have tried to instal the first official WWE 1.34 ROM update (combined from SPL.nbh and ROM.nbh) and it replaced only the SPL, and the ROM update crashed.
There was not way out so I sent it to the repair center.
The WWE images are expecting the device with CID Qtek_Z12.

i ran the format command anyway. device reboots and still stuck at the windows mobile logo screen. what should i do next?

why did you format ?
try to reflash 1.09 spl
and after this wwe one of 1.34 roms to get 1.10 spl

If you can't bother to read the wiki, don't play with roms!

1) Boot Loader is 1.09
2) OS won't load, so can't use any of the ActiveSync-based methods for downgrading to an older version, such as 1.04.
3) CID appears to be corrupted, as per the earlier output pasted.

I think that comment was really unnecessary!
As a n00b I know how hard it is to understand what’s happening. I did read the wiki’s and still I didn’t get HOW TO upgrade a ROM until I found a great post in FutureShock’s thread

On the Mteor start the explorer and in the root directory (press UP once) find SSPL.EXE en start it.
If the Mteor won't start the program and there is an error like "insufficient trustlevel".
You need to remove the application lock on your Mteor.
Run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe on your PC with Activesync working and then install SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab on the Mteor.
You will find those two in the .rar in ".\opt Software\Unlock Tools"
Then redo from the start.
Then, Have fun !! (Futureshock & DarkDirk)
P.S. works on a BREE100 with IPL-0.90 and SPL-2.05.

with all the respect what you do for this community, isn't taht you who advice us to update the SPL before trying your images?
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384398 you should probably higlight that the update should be done only on WWE devices.

Update 2: when the device boots, it stucks on the 2nd/3rd boot screen and if the USB cable is attached, for a brief moment, windows can detect the phone and i can even browse the content of the phone from my PC. but after that, the device disconnects itself and just remain stuck at the 2nd/3rd boot screen. the device appears to be totally freezed/hang. even the LED charging indicator will not turn off when i unplug the device from computer
i believe what i need to do now is to make a nbh image that is signed to i dont get any corrupted image message when trying to flash. i used HTC ROM editor to mix and match the SPL and IPL file so that i can downgrade the SPL to 2.05 and upgrade it again later. but i dont know how to sign nbh files.

if it sais A07 then just flash rusian 1.34 rom and enerithing will be fine
application unlock it
run sspl 77.7
flash wm6.1
if it says enithing else you need to locate your original rom
till now i found that it sais a07 in most cases

it depends on the info displayed on terraterm
for A07 you can use the russian rom to recover

this is what i got from terraterm. same as mtty.

i did flashed back to my original ROM after the first stuck in WM screen incident. and amazingly the flashing process works after several mix and match. after the original (WM5) ROM completed flashing, my IPL is downgraded back to 0.9 and SPL is still 1.09, and im still stuck at the WM logo screen (this time WM5 logo).

what is your orignal rom??
just try to flash over sdcard... (look in wiki4more infos about that)

i tried SD card flashing too yesterday. it says not allowed. i have already flashed over the original dopod 595 ROM and my phone is now WM5. the flashing is 100% successful, but it is still stuck at the second boot WM screen.
i think im in a really screw up position now. i have SPL 1.09 and IPL 0.9. i dont know what is corrupted now. is it the CID? SPL?

cid you can check with mtty and info 2...
if that so... just do what i have wroted in pm...
you could also just try the old htc rom (w. SPL 2.05)

both mtty and terraterm give me the same msg when i type info 2. it says time out (refer above for exact error message).
the original dopod 595 rom has SPL2.05. and it was successfully flashed into the phone. when the phone reboots, it is still stuck at 2nd boot screen (WM logo). i checked, the SPL is still 1.09, but IPL has been downgraded to 0.9.

How to fix a bad radio flash ? "no gsm" on boot

Hi, i've bough a p3600 on ebay.
The seller tell me the phone is out because he flash a bad radio version on the phone.
I try to upgrade some file. ( Rom OS, Radio, SPL,etc ...)
I try the splexploit...
BUT ... The phone already stay on startup. i can see HTC startup screen,the windows startup screen ...but never the today screen.
I try hard reset, htc official rom, cookeed rom,...but when i flash a rom with "gsm", the update freeze at 13%
I try with usb and with sdcard..same thing, already stay at 13% !
But if i flash hard spl, 100%, if i flash OS, 100%, just the radio freeze at 13%
Any idea please ?

Hi, updating the radio to 1.56 crashed, now I have the No gsm message and doesn't boot, running mtty from bootloader with info2 command it says supercid but I can't update any official rom SPA, WWE, ITA... the error is "vender id invalid". I've tried the sd method but returns to bootloader .
Any help will be appreciated.

I've the same problem and after several attempts without result I sent the phone to the workshop and they told me the problem is with the main board! (this cost almost the price of phone itself). Moreover, I've seen some where here that the problem could be caused by radio chip but I couldnt get the detail.
If you find a solution give me a tip.

i've test lot of thing.
I progress with mtty. but i've got a problem ..i can't downgrade the phone under SPL 1.05.
SPL 1.04 can "reset" the radio, or enter directly to the radio bootloader. With that, i can save my phone.
Try mmty (see the wiki => bootloader info) and with the mfg spl, you can try the method.

I've got the same problem...
I've sim and cid unlocked my spv m700 some time ago, using wonderful software from pof. Everything went smooth.
Today I've decided to update radio rom to 1.38.00.11 to enable gps.
I've launched RUU, everything was ok till 44%, when I've got message "Communication error".
After that program tried to recover rom without success, I've got another message "Image corrupted"...
I've tried to reboot my spv (both SR and HR), after rebooting I see:
M 05
B 05 D 1.23
then those symbols disappear and I see only Orange logo.
That's it... The end...
Should I reload radio rom or both rom and radio rom to my DEAD spv? If yes - how?
Please help as I'm very disappointed, frustrated and so on!

Update: A-A-A!!! I did it! I revived my spv! Let me explain how (I'm kinda new to all this rom and and ssl things, so forgive me for mistakes, if there are any):
1 I ran unbrick software. Yesterday it did not work (said, that could not find smth), but today it worked fine.
2 I ran RUU and BINGO! That's it!
BTW, I have vista, but it still worked (I think, thanks to Windows Mobile Device Center, which I have installed).
Also, I killed wmd process in Task manager in the beginning (have read this recommendation somewhere).

Original ROM doesnt respond. I flash with cooked ones. Result 100% successful. I restart the phone- hang at boot screen.

I'm already under the hard SPL. and "task 2A" not working.
Macars, try only with radio ripped or full original rom (from htc or cooked with radio) because some cooked rom have only OS.
Can you tell me what SPL you have?
Hard SPL?

it shows SPL 9.99 and with this I cannot flash anything so what I do is to update with splxploit and then the phone changes to SPL 1.2 olipro. With 1.2 I can only flash coocked ROM and will go until the end 100% successful- (original ROM the phone does not respond), but when restarts with newly loaded cooked ROM the phone hangs at window login screen and when put it in bootloader the SPL 9.99 returns again.... the story goes on like this.

you can only flash cooked rom because the rom you flash contains only OS. When you flash HTC rom, the rom contains os+radio+spl+....other thing ...
Try this method to downgrade your SPL (9.99) to oli 3.20 :
1°) run splxploit
2°)when the phone reboot on the spl 1.20 oli, run HardSPL 3.20 olipro. (search on the wiki or the trinity forum
3°)upgrade to 3.20 oli ...
Now, when you go to the bootloader, you can see SPL 3.20 oli.
Try reflashing a radio only (see the upgrading topic, you will see radio 1.56.xxxx)
Tell me if this method work.
When i'm on spl 3.20 oli, i can load radio rom to 0%
when I downgrade my phone to spl 1.05, and i can run the upgrading to 7% (best score )
To downgrade to SPL 1.05:
edit the "unbrick.bat" on the splxploit folder.
Replace TRIN_HardSPL.nb to TRIN_SPL105.nb
try to find SPL 1.04. I'm sure if i got the spl 1.04 i can revive the phone

did you check if you have bad block (with mtty)
try format the phone with mtty.
