The other thing I can't get to work with my new Vario III is to get it to work as a bluetooth modem with my laptop. This used to be comparatively easy with the Vario II.
The laptop picks up the phone alright, and installs the Bluetooth modem. I note however, that I can't change any of the important settings. For example, it's not possible to enter a modem init string (all blocked/greyed out on that tab).
When I do create a DUN connect, it opens the port, dials *99#, after which it breaks off with "Failed to connect".
Any ideas what I could try? Thanks!
with WM6, you set up a Bletooth PAN (Personal Area Network) - in the Comms Manager you turn on Internet Sharing, then on your PC (or Mac) you should be able to join the PAN from your Bluetooth Explorer... Instructions are in the manual and posted elsewhere on this forum...

Alternatively, you can use the DUN patch. Read my related article in the Wiki.
Hi there, could you pls post the link of the WIKI or the DUN patch ? would be great, thanks

Hey,
I've been trying for ages to get my laptop to connect to GPRS with my O2 Xda IIi.
So far I've tried the settings given with 2 different PDF's on 2 O2 sites (why can't they just have 1 website with all the info!?).
I'm connecting with my USB cradle.
The dialup connection is trying to dial *99# but goes nowhere, just says "Dialing..." then times out.
Can anybody who sucessfully uses the wireless modem tell me exactly what they do step by step, or even better, if you had this problem - how did you fix it?
Thanks.
Okay, finally connected.
Can't believe I wasted so much time because of the stupid setup guides by O2.
I just created a default dialup connection for *99# and it works just fine... no need to mess with all the settings
I have used my 8525 as a wireless modem but I can't seem to get the Tilt to connect. Did HTC come out with new modem drivers or did the dial up connection settings change when we switched back to ATT? I'm using a Win XP laptop and trying to connect over USB. Can someone give me a step by step process?
Thanks
yeah i'm lookn to see how to enable dun
Search around more for "Internet Sharing" for more information, there have been a few posts about it.
To use your cellular data connection for PC internet most people seem to use the included (but semi hidden Internet Sharing application).
It's located in the windows folder called "Internet Sharing". If you run it it's pretty clear how to get it up and running. The stock version works for USB or Bluetooth PAN connections to a PC. If you follow the instructions in the thread here you can supposedly set it up to use it as an adhoc Wifi access point. Haven't tried it myself so can't vouch for that one.
Basically you run the program, select your PC connection type, select Media Net and boom you're connected.
I am having the same problem connecting via a USB cord. Unfortunately I do not have an installation CD to update the modem drivers either. The drivers Windows is using may be from my 8525(which I got to work as a modem). I tried using Internet sharing from the windows folder but it does not help. The furthest I have gotten is a yellow light in the first box.
If anyone happens to have a link to the modem driver, please post it so I can keep hacking away. I'll post a solution if I can ever figure this out.
Tilt as a wireless modem
The easy way is to open File Explorer, go to the Windows directory and look for a file called "Internet Shar....". Press and hold on it and select Copy. The go to Windows>Start Menu>Programs and Paste it in here. Now it will be a selectable program in your Programs menu. Start the program while connected via USB to your laptop and hit "Connect" on the lower left side of the screen. Worked like a charm for me.

I have this working for me as well. It's so much easier then setting up the phone as a modem. No drivers needed. Just plug and play.
Add bluetooth DUN to ICS
THis will add bluetooth DUN to ICS, basically you can tether over bluetooth with ICS as a modem or whatever..You need to install the .cab file posted here and thats basically it..Works perfect

Can't tehter USB with Internet Sharing
Hi guys: I have an AT&T rom without the bloatware. I have also Blackberry Connect unlimited plan as my email solution. I haven't been able to tether via usb with my laptop using Internet Sharing. I get the message: check usb cable and then neither of the 3 data connections (Medianet, AT&T GSPR and Blackberry) can connect. I get the message: the other party disconnected the connection. I would appreciate any help I can get. I really need to tether through my laptop. Thanks!
htc modem
i have my phone hooked up as a modem and everytime i disconnect, some of my programs dont work. then my text messages dont go through and i have to reset my phone then they come through on my sim card. can someone tell me what is going on?
I'm sure you need to start a whole new thread for this.
On the Internet sharing do you choose - ATT ISP GPRS or MediaNet ?
I used MediaNet and it worked, but you have to turn off USB connections in ActiveSync. It will interfere.
aparently i have no COM ports avaible, so i cant browse the internet. im not sure how to fix this, but im also not sure if it's just a problem on my kaiser? when i try to go on the internet it tries to connect to 3G, but i want to use active sync
You want to connect to the internet through your home pc via usb/BT?
You might want to try this.. I'm not SURE, just offering a suggestion.. someone can confirm/bunk this either way..
Start|Settings|Connections|Connections
One of the settings there might work for you,
If not.. theres a Little blue Question mark in the top right that actually has some pretty in depth info..
Sorry I couldnt be of more help, but it's a start.
Is ActiveSync actually working for you? I mean... is your Kaiser synching with your PC?
If activesync is working fine, try this on your PC (not on your Kaiser).
Open Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Create a new DWORD data type called "AllowLSP" and set it to 0
Plug your Kaiser again and let me know if it worked.

if i'm reading right you want to use internet sharing using usb or bluetooth and browse the internet using your PC?? is it?
1.first open setting in your active sync then uncheck allow the usb connection .
2.plug in the usb cable to ur pc and kaiser
3.open the internet sharing in your kaiser end select conection typ usb or bluetooth.
4.connect. (your computer will be installing rds driver automaticcaly)
5.then you'll have a gprs internet trough your pc
note you must have gprs/3g connection available in ur network.
in ur pc in the internet connection option makesure you select direct connection if you use firefox/opera.
Hope this solve your problem.

You are wanting to browse IE on your phone using the Activesync usb or BT connection (phone uses PC's internet connection for data) am I correct in thinking that?
I'm not sure what you mean by 'No comm ports available' as your WM device connects via USB?
Sorry if these steps may seem a bit condecending but best to check all.
1, Has your PC got a working internet connection (can you browse IE on your PC) ?
2, Is Activesync actually working (your contacts and mail are sync'ed) ?
3, In connection settings on Activesync (PC) you need 'Allow wireless connection' unchecked (Checked for tethering, PC goes through phone 3G) or phone will try to go through any data connections of its own first.
4, On your WM device under 'Settings' 'Connections' 'USB to PC, check the 'Enable advanced network functionality'
Hope this helps.
I have a similar query, I can use my PC's internet connection from home, but when I connect to my work PC it does not. Now I know this is down to the fact that my Work PC uses a proxy server, but how do I add this info in to my Tytn2.
Hi Farsquidge,
I have followed your steps above, but when I try to connect to IE on my device, I get the message "The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
Any ideas?
Also, many thanks for the widespread advice you have given throughout the fora - it has really helped me get the most of out of my TyTN2!

Your welcome.
Is your device an 'out of the box' HTC device that was not bound to a carrier contract? Some carrier (ie. AT&T Vodaphone) seem to have settings within the ROM (seen in other threads) that tie you in to only using their settings (ie Media.net) and using a proxy that cannot be changed for IE only for GPRS connections.
Anyone got ideas on this one.
Unfortunately, Orange UK got their hands on my TyTN2 before I did! Perhaps that's the source of my problems?

Are Orange UK (I am from UK but living abroad now) still wanting to promote their own Internet?
I know only last year a pal of mine said he could not connect his Nokia through his home WiFi because it would not connect via his BT Internet.
Check if you have a proxy connection set up on your GPRS cause ya never know!!!
I can connect to any Wifi network and access webpages without problems. Doesn't seem that there are any restrictions from that point of view. Thanks for the help - guess it's not really a problem not having Internet access via ActiveSync, as it connects to the Wifi network.
i guess i shoulda been more specific.
i wanted to browse the internet on my kaiser, using the active sync connection. however it wasnt working, but now ive re-installed opera and it works with that, not sure if it works with IE yet.
installed Opera and still no hope.
my tytn II is out of the box, not on any contract with an operator. can any one please help me..
Cheers,
does anyone know how to use my XDA Diamond as a modem for my MacBook? Applications -> Internet Sharing doesn't seem to work, nothing happens..
Thanks in advance!
same
same problem?
It's very easy and works fine (Only in Bluetooth)
Just follow this steps :
- Activate Bluetooth and make your Diamond Visible
- On MacOS X use "Bluetooth Wizard" to associate your Mac and your Diamond
- Follow the steps of the Bluetooth Wizard
To use your Diamond as Modem :
- Launch Internet Sharing on the Diamond
- Select Bluetooth and Network
- Select "Connect"
- On your Mac select on Bluetooth options "Connnect to Network"
PS : The options can not exactly the same because i use a french version of MacOS X
When you say internet sharing... do you mean ;
1. Using the Mac as the device connected to the internet ?
2. Using the Diamond as the device connected to the internet ?
ie, are you setting up the Diamond as a modem for the Mac or (effectively) the other way round, the Mac as 'modem' for the Diamond ?
PS. Also worth posting this in the wiki
SPFrance:
I presume that you are not using a MacBook Pro? Your instructions are correct and the network is established with mine however when data starts being transmitted I start experiencing bad latency making the connection unbearably slow.
It seems to be an issue with the MacBook Pro but not the 'MacBook'.
Let me know your setup and what speed you are getting across the connection.
Cheers
Aidan

Yes it's right i have a MacBook Pro. When i am in a "3G+ Zone" the download speed is near 1Mbits/s.
Do you know if you have the latest Penryn chipset on your MacBook?

Ok here is the setup info I used for my Kaiser and powerbook G4. My phone is with AT&T so if your phone is not you must find your login details but the modem script should do the trick.
My Problem is the following:
I have my Diamond, which I use for work purposes, and my work Mobile subscription does not have Internet access.
However, I do have a private Mobile subsciption WITH internet access, which I have installed in a different (Nokia3109) Phone
The Internet works in the Phone, I can also use it as modem for my Laptop thru Bluetooth (works fine with the *99# and connection string I have setup)
NOW... I also want to use it as Bluetooth modem for my Diamond... problem (I think) is that in Windows Mobile 6.1, I can not configure the connection string anywhere. I have paired it already through bluetooth, Bluetooth services says indeed that I have Dialup Modem service, and it is also shown in the connection setup (I can select Bluetooth Modem as device)
For settings I use *99# as number, username password I have, but I cannot connect.
I DO know the connection string, which I have also used for my laptop... but don't know where to put it!!
can anyone help me in this?
some info on the Diamond:
ROM: Touch-IT v.41
CE OS5.2.21042
Windows Mobile 6.1
Thanks in advance,
Gordon
You have to add manually a STRING parameter named "3" into
HKLM/Drivers/Unimodem/Init
This is a place where you put your modem initialization string.
Usually it looks like
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","APN of your provider"<cr>
It should be ok then
Thanks for the tip.
It did not work however, I think the bluetooth connection was not very well...
I reflshed my ROM and tried again... now it work (although partly only...)
I can now update the weather and the stock information easily, but Windows Live Messenger, email or Webpages give errors of not being able to connect.
(e.g. with Internet Explorer, the Status bar first says connecting, then Locating, and that is where it stops (after a while) and gives the message it cannot find a page.
Do you maybe also have an answer for that?
thanks in advance,
Gordon
