GPRS in India

Hi,
I am off to India for 2 weeks, with my trusty Tytn. What is the cheapest and best way to get good gprs coverage with a fair daily allowance on PAYG? Or am I being a bit too hopeful.
Thanks in advance.....
GPRS in India
Hi there,
I just came across your querry,
sorry for the late reply but I rarely go off-topic,I have Exec.
For GPRS there are several service providers , the fastest & the cheapest is Airtel.
For Rs.12 per day only you get the Mobile Office service , in which you have full access or for Rs. 5 per day you get the NET ON PHONE in which ther is a limited access.

Thank you very much.
airtel gives the best speeds possible today with Edge support i do up 2 20 k download speeds ... and its unlimited
I am getting unlimited GPRS for 250 INR from Airtel. Speeds arent much but they claim EDGE services.
I think GSM and GPRS rates are one of the lowest in India.

Unlimited for 250?
I've been paying Rs. 140.00 / week, ever since I got here 3 months ago... and I managed to get a post paid connection since I'm gonna be in India for another 4 months. Speeds arent great though.
Anyways what about this 250 Unlimited?
Just got back
Hi All,
Thanks for your help with GPRS. It was a little more tricky than I thought it would be. You can't get a PAYG Sim if you don't live in India, you also need 2 passport photos. When you get the sim you have to get gprs activated, then send an SMS to 696 with MO in the body to start mobile office. After this 19 rps are taken everyday until you cancel it, but you do get unlimited internet.
It was also tricky to get the GPRS network settings as I couldn't manage to contact them using the phone. In the end I phoned someone in UK with internet access for the settings for Airtel. The main one being airtelgprs.com as the access point name.
Anyway the coverage was great and recommend it to anyone roaming it India.
I am paying Re. 1 for 100 KB to Airtel... which is very costly.
the gprs and call rates in India are way below.
Anyway my package rate is 16 RS per MB and i use about 400-500 Rs Gprs daily. (PAK)

Data Plan Help Please

i'm going to get an 8925 .. i currently have a POS nokia with a brand new 3G SIM in it to hold me over till Kaiser is avail at ATT
i was planning to add MediaMax 200 bundle to this Nokia *before* I get the
8925 so I can slip in under the PDA radar, and swap SIM's when i get the 8925 and have unlimited internet for $19
i *HAVE* to be able to tether and VPN and Remote Desktop and have all standard internet functions available (i'm network admin)
from a few posts i searched and read, it sounds like only HTTP is available on the MediaMax plans and the wap.cingular thing
is this true ? can somebody clear this up for me ?
thanks !
i havent tried tethering but i have the 29.99 smartphone plan. i went to the cingular shop at my local mall and just bought a sim. the guy asked what phone im going to use and i said not sure yet. he used the imei number from his phone to sign me up then asked for my nokia e60 to activate the sim card.my monthly bill is roughly $98 with only 900 minutes. my tmobile bill is $70 with 1500 minutes but only edge speed.
bounce .. still trolling for an answer
thanks

Rogers Canada plans (noob looking for some info!)

Hi everyone,
Recently bought a tytn II, haven't bought a plan yet but most likely I will go with rogers...
anyone else using their phone with them? just wondering if they offered up unlimited data plans and how's the $$$$
This is my first phone so Im a total noob to this, the forums been great but I have read that some people get charged unknowingly from roaming charges.. how does this happen? Don't you only get charged if you browse the internet or send/receive email?
not to be rude but there is a rogers website. but unlimited data? hahahaha $65 for 1 GB
so which plan are you using?
right now i am using the 10MB for $5 promo they had going on a while back, but to get just regular data you need to claim to have a samsung a706 (as well for vid calling) as some reps might put u on the new windows mobile data plan which is $15 for 2 megs.
If you can make it happen then by all means get on the normal data plan and Opera Mini 4 mind you minimal browsing should be done regardless but opera gives you more bang for your buck.
If i were you, id go with Fido. Much cheaper plans than Rogers. I currently pay $18 value pack. I get Call display, Voicemail, 1,000 text msg, plus 12 MB internet plan.
Since Fido is under Rogers, you get the 3G network as well.

What data plan is the best? (AT&T)

Anyone have any suggestions?
I am supposed to get a PDA Personal Plan to qualify for my rebate, so I might do that for the month when I send it in ... but...
What's a good data plan for unlimited usage?
I saw the 19.99 Smart Phone Connect - is that unlimited data?
Are there any other good deals, and why is unlimited MEdia net 39.99 if Smart Phone Connect is only 20?
Thanks...
MEdia connect is 39.99 for regular telephones. Not PDA's. Smart phone connect is for smart phones, not PDA's. 39.99 PDA Personal Max will get you unlimited data and 1500 messages, or 49.99 will get you Unlimited Data/Unlimited messaging.
Hope that helps.

I'm using the $20 media max 200 plan with no problems. don't waste your money on the PDA Connect plans if you can help it.

^ what he said
I have the 39.99 as mentioned above. Unlimted data is th way to go. I also get 1500 text messages. Works well for me!
Come Monday, Jan. 21, all this will be a moot point, as AT&T will be dumping all the current data plans and change over to the new data plan offerings. . . no more Smartphone vs. PDA data plan discussions. Both will be covered under the same data plan. And it was discussions like this all over the AT&T forums that led to the revamping, as users with PDA's were advocating using the MediaNet/MediaMAX plans which are against the TOS in the contract. Now, everyone will pay the same price.

Switched from Blackberry Curve... ATT Plan?

Just got a new ATT Tilt and have been reading posts on here for a little bit--also flashed Dutty's ROM and the 12.32 radio...
Called AT&T and gave me no definite answer...
Right now, I have a Blackberry BIS Unlimited Plan w/ 1500 Texts, do i have to switch to the PDA personal plan to access data/email?? Or, can i just use the BB plan?
I would like the option to switch to my old BB Curve at bars/clubs during the weekends, since my friends are on BB Messenger.
Sorry for the Super Newb question...

No, you don't have to switch. Unlimited Blackberry plans include unlimited MediaNet data access.
OTOH, you can load up BBConnect on your Tilt and get some use out of the plan you're paying for:

Thanks, i will give this a try.
It says I need to have a BlackBerry Connect Plan... i figure based on what you're saying is that I already have that plan (BB BIS) from my old BlackBerry?
Is there a good reason to switch to the PDA Personal Plan at all?
I will tell you that I got a pain in the ass CSR at AT&T who forced me to switch off the Blackberry plan. She claimed that it doesn't work with the Tilt. I know that not to be true, but she claimed that Premier shouldn't be allowing people to stay with the blackberry version. I didn't care because my old phone died, but understand you could theoretically run into a rep down the road who sees "policy" differently. FWIW.
