your advice returned -->> Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)

From google query of "What is sip?":
Web definitions for sip = a small drink
Sorry, couldn't resist!

No need to be an asshole just because you know more than him and think noobs don't belong here. You could have just answered something like:
"The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application-layer control (signaling) protocol for creating, modifying, and terminating sessions with one or more participants.
You can find more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_Initiation_Protocol
Have a nice day bla bla"
Instead, you just said "google "what is sip?"" like "this is no place for stupid questions goddamit get out".
Show us a little kindness here.
Ps.: I also didn't know what SIP meant. And it in the end it wasn't what it really meant..!!! lol.

Oh well, I tried it b/c I didn't know either. Of course my SIP didn't make much sense to me either...but heck I'm just a GIT (geek in training). Thanks for the correction.
And sorry Alemaker for the misdirection-although with your name, maybe a small drink is the def. you were looking for, LOL

Thx- but now why would there be references I see, like in ClearTemp where there is a Dead SIP item? is a Dead SIP a bad contact point?

For PDAs, SIP can be either Soft Input Panel (soft keyboard) or Session Initiated Protocol (for VOIP calls).

In that instance it would be in relation to the SIP (Soft Input Panel). I guess sometimes they don’t uninstall correctly and that will clean the dead ones.

Let's all take a deep breath here. I didn't flame him, I tried to help with a simple solution. Very sorry I didn't ask him how his family was and wish him a happy day. I considered cutting and pasting what I read on google, but thought better to not pretend I knew what I was talking about. I guess I could have explained all this in the first post, but didn't. I've tried to help noobs, being one myself, with posts before they get ripped on by the regulars. My mistake. And have a nice day.

Chill out guys.
TLAs and FLAs are a PITA as they are extremely context sensitive.

End of annoying IM contact names

I dunno about you lot, but I find it a real pain when members of my contact list have their display name as some random quote or statement, but don't actually tell you their name. I found it frustrating having to right click and look at their email address every time they signed on or changed their name while I wasn't looking.
So to combat it, I sent everyone on my contact list that had these types of names (about 30 of them) here, and it worked, almost all of them changed their names No more right clicking for me!
Perhaps I'm turning into an grumpy old man though, perhaps these things shouldn't bother me. Have I have been unnessecessarly rude to them? Or did I have a point?
If it bothers you too, spread the word. Maybe we could change the world....
kool!
Timmeh - maybe you are right; or maybe I'm a Grumpy Old Man myself.
I do have sympathy with your viewpoint.
Thanks for the link. Ready-made sarcasm is a valuable commodity.
Cheers and good luck!
but I like h4x0r text
I know what you mean tho' - with MSN its a pain when people keep changing their name - I just have everyone blocked - and then when they get online I unblock them if I want to speak to them
I usually have my names as ScreenName - message

I would have done that, except I would have spent half my life right clicking to look at their email address to decide if it's someone I want to talk to.
Ok I can live with h4x0r text I suppose, as long as it's not too obscure.
I have not tried MSN Plus for a little while but that used to allow you to change your contacts name to a name of your choice so it did not matter if they changed it.
http://www.msgplus.net/
I may be adding it again i was just waiting for MSNM 7 final.
Be carefull to pay attention when installing as it has adware packaged that you can untick but it can easy to skip the screen.

Keep dialpad on while on a call?

I have to make a lot of calls to conference #'s and such, and I consistently find myself panicking when I have to enter a pin or entry code, because the back light has gone off (screen blank), and when I do figure out the right key to press to bring it up, the keypad is no longer there. I have to press the "show keypad" button. Usually by the time I figure that all out, if I haven't already inadvertently hung up the call, I've timed out for the response.
Anyway, making a short story long.... Is there anyway, while on a call, to keep the dialpad and backlight on?

Is it just a very strange description for this reg tweak? "Fast Sleep" sounds totally different than "Disable Automatic Call Status Switching". Is this a 2 for 1 change? Can someone simply post the exact registry change, that is easier for me?

Just download the F-ing application and make the change. It automatically changes the registry entry so you don't have to worry about it. Your question was answered, there's no need to bump this thread because it wasn't answered in the way you wanted it to be.

Just to give you a heads up this program "KaiserTweak" works really well. I have used it myself now on 3 different ROMS and have had no issues. I highly recommend it.
You are all WRONG
kierol, Hejdemann, madmatt079, and Bellfazar.
You guys are ALL WRONG! OK some of you are only 50% wrong.
A particularly big "screw you" back to Bellfazar for the unjustified "know it all" and rude attitude. See below from PM-ing with KaiserTweak author Chainfire.
The point is that there are two separate issues, clearly delineated by mooshwa in reply #3.
From swamp2 to Chainfire:
Sorry to bother you with a PM. I really dig your program and all the great reg edits you have put together. I prefer to manage my reg mods manually. Folks keep telling me that there is a reg edit in your program that disables the automatic switching, after placing a call, from the keypad to the call status window of the dialer. I would simply like to disable this automatic switching and not change anything else. I would greatly appreciate you sharing this reg edit with me. By the way in case it is relevant I have the AT&T branded device with the AT&T dialer as well. Thanks in advance.

Reply from Chainfire to swamp2:
AFAIK there is no Tweak in KaiserTweak that does this, though it may be some side-effect of another tweak. If you are interesting in the tweaks themselves, read the XML document format description on the KaiserTweak page and just download KaiserTweak and review the XML file. All tweaks are in there.

Lastly just to be 100% clear I am using the disable fast sleep tweak and that works great but it IS NOT a side effect of this tweak to accomplish what I was posting about, disable automatic call status switching.

What do you mean with "inable and disable cabs"? I sopose you want to enable and disable something but what do you mean with cabs? If you mean files with a .cab-extention - they are compressed installation files which can't be "disabled". Or do you mean something different?

Do you perhaps mean that you have programs that automatically run each time you power your device on?
In which case, FORGET ABOUT THE WORD __CAB__
This is only how those programs are initially installed onto your device.
OK, moving on...
If each program does not have an options page, when you enter its interface, then you could try navigating to
My Device\Windows\Startup
then delete the shortcut in there that refers to the program you want to stop from automatically running.
Resco Explorer will definitely see all files you need, you may need to fiddle if you want to use the standard Windows Explorer.
I agree people troll around here often, but if you explain what you need a little more clearly, you will give them less opportunity to do so.
If you do NOT in fact want to stop programs from automatically running, without un-installing them, please ignore above

Well, your last sentence was not very grown-up either! You don't want to be abused and jet abuse others! As my father would say: It takes two to tango.
as for your question: I don't know what cabs exactly you have installed but it's either some apps or some tweaks and non of which can be "disabled". You can uninstall the apps again (which you don't want) or just not run them. Or in case of apps which install some additional system services or which starts with the phone you can disable them from starting by hand (in the registry) or you can use some tweak-tool like MemMaid; Which I would recommend since you can destroy much less with that one. But both is risky if you don't know what you do.
maybe an example would help us to help you?
what did you install? (so that we know, if it even runs)
i guess with delete you mean uninstall?

Whoa Geez Chill. I Assumed English wasn't your first language. I was merely using my resources available to me to try and understand the question. Maybe I was too literal.
Asked, Answered.... Closed
@Streetknight: Your original question had nothing to do with want you were trying to accomplish. As you have not seen fit to even select your country in you user profile we have no indication of your language problems (if could be a young & dumb kid just as easily as someone who has very little english skills). As the person asking the question it is your responsibility to state clearly what you are trying to accomplish.
Had you said "I have installed some software that automatically starts everytime I reset my phone and I want to stop the automatic start." you would have received an answer fairly quickly.
Now you can say that your knowledge of English is low but then I'd have to remind you that you choose to ask your question on an English Language Forum. The expectation therefore is that you have sufficient English skills to properly ask the question and also understand the answer.

Change View of Contacts - AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!

Hi Guys
Im loving my XDA Ignito (removed o2 Rom, now just like a HTC Diamond)
The contacts are displayed "surname, first name" this is soooo frustrating !! Please please could somebody help me convert my contacts to "first name, surname" I have roughly 220 numbers.
Thanks
Adam
Change the "File As" field in each contact. You might be able to do this in Outlook too.
umm... why is this such a problem?!?
are people too stupid to remember a surname?
my friend, when you only have 10 friends, as you must with responses like that, it probably isn't.
On the other hand when you have several Samantha's and such on the phone it can be.
So I would still appreciate some help please.
Cheers
fair enough, but i find it easier to go by surname (and i have many Chris' for example, and it is easier just to go to the one person with that one surname than scroll thru loads of Chris' to find the one with the right surname?!!?!?!?!
i think you will find that ur answer does not make sense.
and on this n00bish argument, there are fricking hundreds of threads about this, so sorry if i'm starting to get pissed off with the question.
Just use the smart dial feature, i have exactly the same problem as you, but i cannot/will not sit there and edit, in my case 286 contacts because microsoft is stupid.
i mean really, if they can file them the wrong way round, surely there is an option to file them correctly, i have been saying this since WM5!!!
NOTHING WILL GET DONE, and i dont think it will
Sorry, guess with frickin hundreds of threads on this there must be frickin hundreds of other people who aren't quite as clever at remembering surnames as you.
Thanks for the help.
Am I talking to myself? Edit the contact and change the File As. All my contacts are firstname lastname.
indeed.
there is no answer to this, most people with technology are used to it.
only Nokia 3310 still have first name first.
why dont u just type the name in one line?
Ruffage, I did try this but unfortunately "file as" only give me one option, i.e. "Smith;John/1"
mugglesquop - Have you nothing better to do than waste my time & yours by writing useless sh*t... F*ck off
usless sh*t??
i told you there is no way of changing them all (AFAIK, and i have read a lot of threads on this)
i also told you a way of storing contacts in the way that you want for future use.
useless?
There must be a way of doing this!!
Also if I do what you said for the future, then I would have half my contacts "firstname, surname" & half "surname, first name" how confusing would that be??

Hmm your contacts are messed up then. I get the choice of both ways to display. Perhaps the name is in one field only in Outlook? Can't check here as I'm not at home atm.
When i go to the properties of the contact, there is only a "Name Field" not a First & Last name field.... hmm ?

It displays like that by default, but there should be a drop down arrow at the right hand side of the Name field and, if you tap that, it'll pop up a further box which shows how the name is actually formatted with the fields Title, First, Middle, Last, Nickname and Suffix.
I changed all my contacts such that only the First name field was populated and had their entire name in there (i.e. "First: John Smith") and that means they all come out as you want with their first name displayed before their last name. That doesn't really help you too much though because you'd have to manually reformat all your contacts which is annoying I know.
Medulla, thanks for that!
I suppose I will just have to spend an hour doing it...
use smartdial or use contact search! why would you want to scroll through a 200 people contactlist?

to show off that he has sooo many contacts apparently
i have to use the recent call list far too many people otherwise
This isnt just me showing off how many people i have in my phonebook (as you say) its obvisouly a common problem otherwise there wouldnt be so many posts about it.
Anyway, it was my old phone what f*cked it up, instead of "first" or "last" name it only put it under "name", so spent an hour or so editing them... now spot on. Also under stand the "file as" now too.
Thanks for all your help (or not for some people)

How to disable capital letters after punctuation mark in SMS/E-mails?

Hi all,
I don't like the feature that a word at the beginning of a sentence will be capitalized automatically when writing an E-Mail or text message. Does anybody know how to switch that off? I know that there are some related settings in the input section, but these settings have no effect on my upper case problem.
I guess (hope) there is some registry setting. Does anybody know a solution?
Cheers,
foo
P.S.: The reason why I hate this feature is that it works wrong for me. When I write an E-mail I start like:
Hello blabla,
how are you today? ...
actually the "h" will be capitalized automatically which is wrong.
haven't found one yet (although haven't looked hard). If you undo straight after the capitalization the word returns to normal (although undo is pretty hard without a Ctrl key on the hardware keyboard).

The setting is in the soft keyboard options. Tap the little arrow next to your keyboard icon and see the options tab at the bottom.
Uncheck the box "Capitalize first letter of sentence"
This may not work on some extra keyboards/sips you install and may need immediate soft reset to make changes.

Did any of you guys ever manage to fix the Capitalisation issue?
I've just bought an HTC Touch Pro 2 and am having the same issue.
Checking or unchecking the box, warm reset, cold reset, nothing makes a difference.
I'm someone who IS very much bothered buy auto-capitalisation, and so would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Cheers.
Yup, have the same problem since I got this phone last year! I searched back and forth, up and down and NOBODY knew a solution so far. And I guess, not so many are bothered by this crap either...!
Some say its windows fault... BUT even in word (windows) we can DISABLE this crap... and why is it there to UNcheck if it does not work??? So this is definately a fault... from SE or MS, I don't care... just fix it...make it work as it is suppose to (unchecking means DISABLED!!!!)!!!!!!!!!!
If you find a solution, please share here. But frankly, I don't think there is a registry solution for this. So until SE or MS are really acknowledging this and fix it, there won't be a 'real unchecking' of this crapppppp!
Unbelievable, eh?
Reading other forums on the same topic I see that people all miss the point. Some people love auto capitalisation, which is fine and fair and good for them, while others - like us - hate it. It should up to the USER to decide whether or not they want it, not the manufacturer, and not other forum users either!
I too am at a total loss to find any solution. let's keep this thread alive, and anyone who finds anything at all that might help please do post.
Thanks.
i don't have any resolution to offer. sorry.
but i am another confused end user, highly bothered by this automatic capitalization setting. i share the ineffectual setting problem.
however i do have some good news. i'm running the newest NFSFAN ROM 6.5, and the setting actually does take effect in the ROMs custom text message input field. in all other text input fields, it doesn't.
if anyone can help us, it has to be NFSFAN, NFSFAN ROM's developer.

Not in English and formatted like that it's not
I'm one of the ones that doesn't mind it. 99% of the time it's right for me. I always E-mail and SMS with full words no shortcuts and it saves me an extra tap when starting a new sentence, whether the new sentence follows a full stop on the same line of comes after a full stop and then I move to a new line.
It definitely wont turn off on mine either though.

It's not an English lesson, but it's right more times than it is wrong. (When typing correctly).
Got it!
Well right or wrong... I found the solution.
There are two files located in the windows directory, that are responsible for auto-capitalization:compose_sms.htm (used when composing text/sms)
compose_note.htm (used when composing email)As the extension already indicates, these files are really html files.
You have to edit these files and remove every occurrence of the word "autocap" within. I used total commander for the job (it comes with an integrated notepad).
After I saved the files I had no more auto-capitalization. (It's not even necessary to do a reset)
P.S.: You should do a backup of the two files before editing them, just in case you mess something up.
Good job!
Pity the tick just doesn't work properly.
It's not because of the comma that you get the capital letter. It's because of the line break.
By the way.
Hello xxxxxx,
I was wondering what...
Is correct as far as I am aware. Every letter I get from anywhere has a capital letter in the first paragraph.

Yes, that's right, but there are other situations like using abbreviations (followed by a punctuation mark) in sentences where autocap fails.

The orthography varies of course in different languages. In German language it is a rule to start the first sentence lower case after a salutation followed by a comma. If I used an exclamation point, which is also valid after the salutation, I have to start the next sentence upper case.
In other words:
Hallo Herr Bla,
danke für Ihre Bla Bla...
is correct in German language but might be wrong in English language.
Thanks... YOU are THE MAN !!!

There are two files located in the windows directory, that are responsible for auto-capitalization:compose_sms.htm (used when composing text/sms)

This is brilliant work! Thanks a lot and it WORKS! Just changed it and now this stupid auto cap is gone!!! Since this is a Read Only File, it should stay like that too!
Actually I don't know any language where one writes a Capital letter (except in english the 'I')! So this is just crap and an oversight from MS that this cannot be changed even though its UNchecked in settings!
This autocap was also capitalizing when just pressing the ENTER key and a new line was started, no matter if there was a Period or a Comma!!!!!
Thanks again from all of us who suffered from this...until now!
First up, as the guy who started this thread 100 years ago, my apologies for not being a part of it lately. I've been away.
Secondly, a thousand thanks to Foo for the HTML solution, which I'll try immediately.
Does this solution also stop auto full-stop (auto period in the US!) as well? No one in the thread has yet mentioned the REALLY infuriating feature: type two spaces and you automatically get a full stop and then auto captialisation as well. At least you do on my TP2!
There's certainly no harm in a healthy discussion about what is or is not correct punctuation (although this isn't really the right forum for that), but the truth is we're all free to spell and punctuate however we want, and it's not the place of any software or hardware designer to tell us how we should do that. If I choose to spell the word "Individual" with three Zs, a silent Q and a fullstop in the midle, that's my choice and the software should allow me to do so!
An hour later, and an update on my progress with Foo's HTLM fix:
The fix has eliminated Autocapitalisation after voluntary fullstops, for which a HUGE THAK YOU
However, it hasn't cured the "double-space = auto fullstop and auto capitalisation" issue. Does anyone have ideas on removing that one?
Cheers.
compse_*.htm in ROM and immutable?
I've just upgraded to an official WM6.5 release on my Touch Diamond 2, and have encountered the same annoying problem with first letter capitalization staying on despite the user visible configuration setting.
I've found the \Windows directory compose_*.htm files, with the 'autocap' flags in them .. but on my device these compose_*.htm files appear to be in ROM and immutable. I can't change their permissions to make them non-hidden and/or non-readonly, and I can't delete, edit or overwrite them.
Any ideas, or am I "Stuck" Capitalizing The First Letter Wherever Microsoft Though It Was A Good Idea? Heh.
Thanks!
Jay

This doesn't work for me. There is no data in these files that says "autocap", it's just a general template for SMS and Email messages.
