I can't figure out how to enable the band selection Tab under Phone/Options.
I found another thread mentioning a registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\PhoneSetting
ShowUTMSBandPage=1
This didn't show the tab for me, even after soft reset.
I'm using the XDA Live rom, but I'm somewhat sure this didn't work for the stock AT&T rom either. I do remember seeing this tab in many of the HTC modified roms I've tried but I'm sticking with the XDA Live rom.
Does anyone know how to get the band settings tab in Phone Options?
I can use the comm manager, but it only switches between GSM and 3G, but not to auto, so in some places where 3G signal is week, I don't get service at all because I can't set it to AUTO from the comm manager.

I have a variation of the original AT&T rom installed. It does not have a page to allow you to select GSM or UMTS. The Kaiser rom does, but I don't want to flash an entirely new rom for just that.
There's a 3G outage in my area and I need to force my phone to GSM/EDGE mode. Does anyone know a code or a way to get the Tilt rom to force GSM/EDGE?
Or better yet, anyone know how to restore the menu/page/tab in phone settings that shows you the page that allows you to select what band you want?

Download and install this comm manager...3G Comm manager You can then turn 3G off and on as you wish
.
I loaded this on my 8525 with the new ATT WM6 upgrade and after installation I got the warning that the display may not be correctsince this is for an earlier version on WM.
When the comm manager came up the only thing I could see was the buttons for the soft keys at the bottom.
After uninstall my old comm manager would not work so I had to do a restore of a backup that was made before installing 3g Comm Manager.
Is there any way to toggle between 3g and edge on WM6 ATT?
I demo'ed bandswitch, and it expired. I decided not to purchase it, and uninstalled it.
It seems that since the last mode I was in within bandswitch was GSM, and now my Tilt is always in Edge...
How can I fix this?
Thank you!!!
Did you try the "normal" way of switching bands? Telephone - Menu - Options - Band - Network Type: Auto or WCDMA as you like?
Yes, I shoudl have mentioned that I did some searching and found that in a wiki. I attempted that. I do not show the "band" screen in my Tilt.
I'm running the standard AT&T software....
A hard reset should fix it...
If it doesnt show the band page in the phone settings then download Kaiser Tweak and enable it. A hard reset may be an option, but use it only as your last.
it depends on what rom your using the AT-T roms will not show the band option even if you enable it using KaiserTWEAK

I am using the original AT&T Tilt software/rom
I have an AT&T branded Tilt (Kaiser). Is there any way to activate manual network selection and search like I used to do on my old Motorola phones? Right now the options don't show in the phone menus.

Search 'force roaming'...
Also, there is an internal program called "Field Test", but I won't know if it allows network selection. I'd sure like to find out, as I'm in network purgatory.

Thanks. I've found field test about 2 months ago. It doesn't seem to work well in 3G mode, but in GSM mode it rocks. No network selection on Field Test.
Thanks, Jay
EDIT: They didn't have an answer in that thread either... I'll have to keep looking
Yeah, I should have clarified... no solution yet.

The stock HTC ROM allows this, but it didn't seem to do anything. I know because the ATT HSDPA network is available at my house (barely), and when I lose it it switches to a full signal Edge.
But! If I switch to GSM it seems to lock to the much better Edge signal at my house instead of the HSDPA. That works for me, but will it limit my signal elsewhere?

Here is the registry hack that lets you do it. I can search and it displays the available networks but I haven't been able to switch networks. Upon a soft reset it reverts back to not showing the options. If you get it to switch networks please post here.
HKLM\Security\Phone\ManualDisable = 0 and
HKLM\Security\Phone\PreferredDisable = 0

I beleive you go to your dialer\Menu\Options\Band and set both to UMTS.

the band option in that option is not in there
What ROM are you on and what do you show under options in your dialer?
Settings-More-Personal-Phone-tab(Zone)
Select to both options the last ones.
my rom is 2.31.502.4
radio is 4.48.25.20
same as when i got the phone like i sed new guy
i think hes using a stock rom pure like me .We dont have that option with out a reg edit
try this
get a reg editor like PHM regeditor google can help ya find it .
Go to following registry key [HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting] and change "ShowUMTSBandPage" to 1 will enable band selection page in phone settings. You will supprised to find UMTS 2100 and 800 as viable selection there. However, we need someone verify it when they travel to foreign countries. To see the new band selection UI, go to start->settings->personal->phone and you will see a new tab labeled 'band'
go to the new tab and set network type to UTMS

thanks that helped me figure out something i checked the stats on the htc pure and actual 3g coverage was like 800kbps but when i get 3g out here the most i can get is 350kbps and found out its edge 3g wich means even tho your reg edit worked it was constantly searching for signal so new question is there a rom or radio that can amplify the antenna without actually having to go buy an antenna amplifier cuz at the minute im broke any ideas would be awsome

not really BUT try forcing it even further to 850 and you might get a bit stronger .. other wise start saveing .

I have the same problem as shadowscreation. I have tried switching bands and even purchased comm manager pro. When I switch bands it will try for and sometimes connect to 3g. But sometimes it will immediately switch back to edge.
It will still show wcdma on the band tab. Since it is not connected to anything at that time there must be something in software overriding the band tab, maybe in the registry. Someone please help me drill this down. xhozt, where is the option for 850 only? I haven't been able to find that.

sry ment select gsm1900+850+utms1900+850} try that .. if that does not kick it in the tail might want to try another simcard.
Recently bought a Samsung I897 Captivate. Its a unlocked phone and I'm using it in Argentina with Movistar. My previous phone was a Motorola Milestone, and it sometimes changed the connection from 3G / HSDPA to 2G (EDGE), in 3G areas. The solution was to go to APN settings, enable "2G only", then disabling it, and the phone instantly switched to 3G again.
However, the Captivate doesn't have such option. Setting the phone to Flight Mode its useless, it will keep connecting in 2G.
Only solution I found at the moment was to go to Network Mode (*#0011#) then navigate to Network Control => Band Selection, selecting WCDMA only, and then enabling Automatic again.
That seems to reset the connection.
I searched in the market for free and paid apps to help me fix this issue, but I found nothing, only the Toggle 2G app, but it only works with Cyanogen Mod.
I have some questions:
If I set the connection to WCDMA only, then I'll have no signal at all in 2G areas, right?.
Does anyone know a quicker way to do this?. I tried to make a shortcut to ServiceMode with dg Quickcut but when I try to open it it crashed the phone.
Thanks in advance.

as of right now, there is no "fix" for this. the best you COULD do is to flash Eugene's VibrantHybrid ROM where the "use 2g networks only" option does exist, but you'll lose GPS (for now)

Thanks for the quick reply Kaik541.
Does the signal strength improve with that rom?.
Currently I'm using I897UCJH7 from samfirmware.

you should revert back to JH3 if you're going to use Hybrid (I don't believe JH7 is compatible yet, there are some issues that cropped up with SRE, so it would be safer to do JH3, or even better JF6). I've seen slightly better reception and MUCH better battery life running Hybrid

It seems it will be updated soon.
Maybe I'll give it a try.
Do you know if it removes the 850 band?.
I need it, because my carrier uses it for WCDMA.
Try this:
1. In the Market, download Any Cut. (This is a free app) 2. open Any Cut and choose New Shortcut 3. select Activity 4. Scroll down the list until you get to Phone Info 5. Select OK. (this will place the short cut on your homescreen) 6. Open the shortcut and scroll down until you see "Set Preferred Network Type" 7. Choose GSM only and you are set. This forces the phone to EGDE
I used this to force edge. Use google to download AnyCut, it doesn't exist on the market for the unknown reason
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I just discovered Juice Defender. One of its features is to set phone to 2G automatically (seems very configurable). I haven't really had a chance to test it, but thought I'd mention it to you anyway

Thanks a lot. I use dg Quickcut for that.
But, I don't need to force EDGE, I need a way to force 3G .
The phone usually switchs to EDGE in 3G areas, and I need to change it back to 3G.
I've used your suggestion to make such shortcut, changed it to WCDMA only, clicked the Disable Radio button twice (because it didn't changed to 3G), and when it switched back to 3G, I changed back the network to GSM / CDMA auto.
What about WCDMA preferred?. Will it try to allways connect to 3G?.
can yall not just dial * # * # 4636 #*#* scroll to the bottom and chnage it there, just so happens i posted a how to earlier in the general section, works on stock ROMS afaik.
also GPS still works

it has a WCDMA preferred WDMA only (only uses 3g) and a bunch of others. read my post in general for a more detailed explanation.
Thanks a lot

Thanks, but Mesasone pointed me to a great app in the market.
Its called Samservmode. It opens service mode without entering any codes.
Anyways, thanks for your help .
