And if yes, will it include WM 6.1?
Let's speculate a bit
I speculate, yes, an update will come... and I speculate it will include the video driver.
And tomorrow will be Christmas, and it will snow. Happy New Year!
and they will enable GPS just to please us
And they will give us more RAM. Oh, what good portion of laughing… ha, ha.
Maybe somebody heard about it from tech support or sth? Im SO looking forward to it!
forget it guys... here is an answer I got from HTC on my question about the missing update page on the website. (404 page not found)
HTC is aware about the issue we had on our website. However HTC does not have any update for the S730 for the moment but only for the S710.
As soon we have an update for the S730 it will be shown on the HTC website.

It's already clear that there is no update at the moment. The question is WHEN, if at all, the update will be available.
Because it is obvious that the update is needed for those ram issues resulting in unexpected application kills.
Moreover, HTC S730 is a quite recent model so upgrading to WM 6.1 would be a benefit not only to current owners, but to HTC themselves too.
So i'm curious whether my speculations are reasonable and maybe somebody actually knows something.
just emailed them, again.........
The best place to check is probably on http://www.htcclassaction.org/.
From what I understand, HTC are getting pressured into releasing an update/fix, though what this will include is not confirmed. Current estimates are late March for release.
Obvious updates:
Some way to close aplications.
A quicker web browser.
A clipboard to copy and paste text and numbers.
A way to navigate easily through folders. (For example between sms: read, sent...)
If have time forget the others:
GPS working.

Absolutely! Obviously Microsoft can't control what third party vendors do in the way of providing software options but I was shocked that MS still haven't included a standard "Exit" option on their default applications. Did no one think that having to reopen Task Manager (sapping even more of the precious little spare memory) to close an application was bad usability?

Yep. IE still seems as sluggish as on my old SPV500, and that phone is about 4 years old now. Some vendors do Windows Mobile-based versions of their browsers, though. Apparently Opera Mobile is very good (http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/) but Firefox Mobile won't be around until later this year at the earliest (http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/10/10/firefox-coming-to-your-phone/).

Another obvious one I can't believe they haven't implemented. All we need are simple "select (on/off toggle)", "copy" and "paste" global options for all text input features. Ornetta's Notepad Mobile implemented this feature well (I'd highly recommend Notepad Mobile for text-editing, by the way - it's a lot nicer than saving millions of draft SMS messages to hold your thoughts: http://www.orneta.com/products/notepad/).

Agreed. It's crazy that you can cycle through types of messaging (Email, SMS etc) but there's no easy way to move between SMS subfolders (sent, inbox etc).
Off-topic, I'd really recommend trying SmartExplorer to replace the dreadful Windows Explorer. It's got some nice auto folder size calculations/displays, and allows you to "send via" (IR, Bluetooth, etc) which is a lot easier than trying to use the built-in Bluetooth connection managers/explorers.
Smart Explorer: http://www.binarys.com/SmartExplorer_en.asp
-Copy and Paste is definitely part of WM 6.1 for smartphone. However, Copy and Paste is available for free from Vito and has been for over a year now. Do a search for it, its a very handy app.
-HTC includes a way to close apps in WM6 professional. I'm suprised they didn't do so for WM6 smartphone. Eitherway, what I used to do when I had my HTC Tornado was program a long press of the Home Button to Taskmanager. That way I could easily multitask and close programs.
-Opera Mobile is just about nothing compared to Opera Mini. Seriously...get the free Opera Mini. It's the best browser available.

Opera mini is awesome, I will only love they could only make it work better in landscape mode (with the keyb out) it just stays in the same width and the lower part is missing.
I find eNatives SmartToolkit very useful as a replacement for the start button and a quick way to list/close running programs.
(Make sure you use RC08D though, not the latest version - this is buggy on smartphones)
I'm wondering if there is an app (even a commercial product; I'm willing to pay) out there similar to "HTC Large Title Bar". I've got my TyTN II almost totally running with thumb friendly apps. But, I can't seem to find a way to access the title bar icons without using either a key or a stylus. The HTC Large Title Bar app is great in concept, but just doesn't work right on my TyTN II.
Thanks.

Nice apps - however I cannot get the start program to work...? It makes a new menu icon under settings but when I press that it sort of loads but then quickly goes "back" again... I installed the title program first on my device, made a softreset and installed the start prog and made a softreset once more...?
There is an app called Touch Commander, but its commercial. I tried a "free trail" and only had partial success. Eventually had to remove it.
I cant find the link, am on Opera Mini, so you'll have to search.
But if you pay for a full version, Im sure you'll get proper support.
Thanks
Dave.

I use Touch Commander (an older version). Are you sure that there's a large Title Bar app in the newest version? I think they just have a large Start Menu function, which I really don't need.

Tried your cab. It's the HTC Large Title Bar, which doesn't work well on my TyTN II. Also, what I'm looking for is to have running apps show in the enlarged area, which the HTC Large Title Bar doesn't do.

Hello.
I gave it a search and read a couple threads but I cannot come up with the answer. Is there a way to get the Live Search Bar I've seen on my Today screen? I've gone under the Today options to see if one is there but to no avail. Help? Thanks! -Jeff
u mean windows live search? what rom are u using? it should be under start>settings>personal>today>items
Hello.
Yea I checked in there and 100% it's not in there. I'm using stock ATT Tilt with HTC Home. Any help?

This has happened with me on many roms as well. I never got around to search for a solution. It would be nice to know how to do it, even though the operation is probably straightforward.

nope this has nothing to do with what we were looking for. The OP's original request was how to get an application on his today screen that was not in his today list = start>settings>personal>today, if the application is not present he was wondering how to make it present. I myself did not know the answer to this and also wondered the same but it was never an issue. Now that someone else asked I am interested in knowing how to perform the operation above.
The ATT base ROM does not have Windows Live installed. I am just finishing up my newest ROM and can verify this. I think ATT took it out because they didn't want to have everyone using so much data!!!
It appears the only HTC TytnII Roms have Live installed

Everything you say is true and I can agree to. However, the issue here is "how to put an application in today screen items".
Just wondering if anyone has resolved this. I just installed WLS on a Tilt and I also don't have the option to place the search bar on the today screen. I have spent at least an hour searching, and I see the same question asked, but no resolution. From my search, it appears that Windows Live gives you the option of placing the bar on the today screen while the installation process runs, but no such luck with WLS.
This is what you're looking for. Install this and you should have an option for that Live Search bar on your today screen.
Thanks, but that is windows live, and has a bunch of "stuff" (messenger, hot-mail) that I don't want. I know Windows Live has that option while the installation process is running, but I was looking for a way to get the search bar with Windows Live "Search".

The problem is that people are confusing Windows live which is a " messenging " service and Windows live search which is a search program. I have both, and have not found a way to put it on the today screen.
I have it in my launcher menu, when I press the launcher tab on my HTC Home today screen. Big deal one extra button.

Exactly and that's what I provided.
To the OP, WindowsLive_0409.cab does THREE things:
1. Installs Live Mail (aka Hotmail) natively in Pocket Outlook
2. Installs Live Messenger (depending on which build you install) and...
3. Installs Live Search Bar
Trust me on this, you NEVER have to open the program. Install it then do what GWelker said and it'll be there.
@denco
Windows Live Search DOES NOT include the search bar as it has nothing to do with searching the internet per-say. Windows Live DOES include the search bar. There's no confusing the two.

Is anyone even reading the thread, WINDOWS LIVE IS NOT WINDOWS LIVE SEARCH. Read the f###ing thread. He is looking to put Windows Live Search on his today screen. It is a program that searches for restaurants and gas stations and tells you where you are and where anything you want to PHYSICALLY find around you is.
It is not a freaking email program so stop with the Windows Live on the today screen posts THAT IS NOT WHAT HE IS LOOKING FOR!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
Before my Diamond I had a Motorola v3 Razr. The Razr did give a sms notification every minute or so. When I received a sms, it gives notifications until i read the SMS. The Diamond only flashes the led light. Is it possible to let the Diamond vibrate every 3 minutes or so when there is an unread SMS?
Thnx in advance
Anybody an idear?

A bit rude and not even an answer for his question......

1. sorry you think so. don't get it ...what's rude? my 2 last recommendations?
2. the notification stays on the screen until you dismiss it, so why repeat? as a matter of fact i am not so sure it is not repeating...
i do know for sure that reminders do repeat so i can guess that all notifications are repeating.
i think he is looking for repeated sound notifications.
I'm very sorry when i offended some of you with my question, but the last post sums it all up. I'm looking for a repeating sound/vibration notification. I will try SPBPhoneSuite, but i'm not font on installing an whole " heavy" program for such small things. So when there is an alternative...please let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=368137Kukuriku - arrogance and rudeness are sometimes difficult to distinguish, but both are bad.
I did a freeware solution - DmsisAlert
Hi, i did a simple application that works on Windows Mobile 5 or superior (.Net CF 3.5 is a requirement).
To download go to DmsisAlert page and click on DmsisAlert link, unzip, tranfer the .cab file and install. If you like (or not), i will appreciate some feedback (you can do that on download page).
With Diamond is a good idea not to use the minimize functionality because after that there is no way to get interface back (allthough it still running on the background). I will work on a solution for that (i'm busy enjoying my new phone ).
hope that can help, helps me a lot

before anything thanks for trying my work... about your comments:
"- The minimize function still doesn't work to well" : You're correct, but in others devices without TouchFlo3D the minimize works a lot better. With TouchFlo3D this feature practically doen'st work (i believe that's the same for other applications that have a minimize function that puts an Icon in the Today Screen).
"- You cannot delete the program via the "delete programs" way": A fix for that will be available very soon
"- I really like the phone to not only notify me via sound, but also via vibration? Is this possible?": It's possible but i dont like the result of doing this with the easiest way, so this feature will be available not so soon (but i will adivise here when so).
I will make some changes and post here a new version with some improvements.

- That minimize function is a pity, but understandable with the TF3D thing!
- Ok if you can fix that 'delete programs' issue, that would be very nice. I don't have a clue how i can properly delete it now!
- I will wait on a fix for the vibrating! That would be very nice!

Hi Rik_X, after a lot of work (i posted the issue in different forums, but got no answer) trying finding a correct solution to uninstall and i ended downloading SkTools (i downloaded from here http://www.clickapps.com/download.htm?pvid=1324) and use a feature called Installed Programs and then Dmsis Alert was listed and i was able to uninstall it!! After that i install the version attached here and then the Dmsis Alert will appear again in the Windows Mobile Remove Program list. Sorry about the troubles that error could cause you.
Anyway i'm posting the last version the doesn't have this uninstall issue. I'm also working on the vibrate feature (still looking a direct interop way to do that).

You really need to learn how to use a search engine dude, it takes about two second to Google for "gmail windows mobile" to get your answer:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
no offence meant to anyone, but i just laughed.
this kinda sums up the whole iPhone/Mac versus WM/PC stereotype thing in one ironic thread.
A happy-go-lucky Apple user expecting everything to be super easy and not having to read the manual because everything just works, and the tired old Windows veterans explaining that you have to think and work harder to get things to run smoothly.
(and that's the polite version of both )
You'll be happy with your Diamond (once you get it sussed!), I think it's a great phone (mostly). You should find almost everything you need to know on these forums, but you will have to search. a bit of effort pays off
You were aware that you need to select go to my location from the menu in google maps? Go over to gmail home page, not gmail itself, you will see a link with specific instructions on setting up an IMAP conection on windows mobile. Follow the instructions exactly and it will work. You dont show 3g because your not connected to it, your connected to hspda which is faster so be glad you got the coverage. Install activesync and allow your phone to finish syncing. Then select explore and mobile device in the window that pops up. Move your photos over to whatever location you want. You will move apps over to the phone in the same manner. I would suggest you create a folder on your internal storage, call it apps or whatever you want and move them there. You can then browse to them on your phone and install. There are a few programs such as.net framework that you execute on your computer with the phone connected via activesync but these are the exception rather than the rule. Most programs will come as a cab and will be executed on the phone. It pays to read up on stuff before you go hog wild or you will be asking how to do a hard reset... I just joined the WM party 3 weeks ago so I understand it can be a little overwhelming but your post is practically begging to get slammed by the do a search queens. If a pathetic old man like me can get most of this figured out anyone can.
