I created a 2.17 ROM that has the Calibri and Segoe fonts from Vista/Office 12 integrated in to ROM. If there's any interest I can upload it to the ftp. Other changes I made are the removal of the Good and Express mail stuff, added several of the Oregami themes that were posted in the Wizard forum, and added Omapclock. All of this has been added to the ROM - not extended ROM, but the actual OS ROM, so they don't take up storage space.
Oh yeah, I added about 15 .wav ringers I gathered. Mostly sound effects and various assorted miscellaneous standard cell ringers and whatnot and stuff. No 50 Cent or Beyonce ringers in this one, sorry. lol
I would definitely be interested!!! Does the omapclock auto overclock? or is smartskey still needed for that? Thanks for your continued support for us with the cingular devices.
May i also suggest some things like ms .net compact framework 2, and macromedia flash for ppc. I'm sure there are other things like this that would be worth embedding in the rom itself.
Definitely interested. Thanks.
Ok I'll say it just to get it out the way. If ya could sneak A2DP in it.
2.17 ROM for Cingular
Definitely interested. A2DP would be nice (I thought it was intrinsic to all 2.17, but shows you what I know...). Anybody have a link to a "ROM upgrading for dummies" string? I know why upgrades are good (especially with a Cingular device), but not completely sure how. I saw the 2 RUU .exes posted for Cingular and bookmarked them, but haven't pulled the trigger yet until I am more confident I know what I'm doing. I am willing, but somewhat naive. Thanks, as always.
yes, interested!
where is it already!?
Summiter I am MOST interested!
Thanks!
Steven
what are u waiting posted nice work
Hook a brother up!
Thanks in advance.
I'm interested!
Now if we can update the ROM to fix the "no vibe on standby" issue, that would be outstanding!!
AMG
Sounds good to me...Thanks!

Excellent! I'll give it a try!
One silly question thought fro future reference,
HOW DO YOU ACCESS EXTENDED ROM????
Always wanted to know!
Thanks

I'd be interested even more if you or someone could post some pics of the new fonts, themes in action.
I guess it's just me, but I HATE doing a hard reset (even if it's part of a ROM ugprade) because it's a pain getting the software back and tweaking it again to the way you like it.
So seeing the difference makes the decision that much easier!
i would love to see screenshots of this before i actually upgraded. also do a build based off the test qtek rom with A2DP
im definately interested.. and would like to see screencaps of the fonts you mention as well.. thanks!!
OK looks like there's interest. I'll upload a 217 based ROM when I get home in a couple hours. I haven't built a ROM with CF2 or anything else requiring complex registry entries yet, but I may look into doing so over the next few days.
Omapclock is in the Windows directory...it's up to you to create a shortcut and map to a hardware button if you wish. I may move it to the Program Files dir before I upload..haven't decided.
As for the themes, do a search for oregami themes in the Wizard forum and you'll find plenty of screenshots.
Oooohh. please...
First off I would like to give thanks for a GREAT contribution to the PPC community. It's people like you who make this a nice and interesting place/hobby/obsession to be.
I flashed my HTC 8125 with the 217 rom and love it.
I anxiously await your next product/upgrade.
Thanks
Kevin
im interested ....please let me know how
being new to PDA i thought i took a venture into this flashing rom business, found out it much easier than flashing and unlocking a phone. hehe. thanx for all your help on this forum lucky i found it.

Could anyone post the Calibra and Segoe fonts for download in their true type font format by themselves? I would love to have them and set up my shell to display them
Hi Guys,
Been on the forums for a while now since getting my X1. Like most X1 users I am eagerly awaiting the next exciting cooked rom to be released.
There a lot of clever guys on here (itje...jackleung...Daren...Bxsteez...the list goes on...) and credit to them all for what they do Top Guys!
Just a thought... but wouldnt it make more sense for all the Rom cooking guys to get together and maybe work on a few 'ultimate roms'. Maybe even just seperate cabs that work with a particular rom?
Maybe its forbidden taboo? and its something that ya just dont do... But I'd just thought I'd ask if its a possibility?
Just seems that all the guys are working so hard to all end up doing the same thing! where as if if they where all working together...the end results may just be awesome....
I'll apologise now if a topic like this has already been mentioned (I didnt see one).
Once again, Credits to the Cookers out there. I wish I had your knowledge
Kind Regards,
King
Long Live the X1....lol
many cooks do work together, perhaps not visible, but through pm and other media.
But releasing roms that we all cook on would take alot of coordination..
all cant cook in the same kitchen, that could get messy .
Its not that we dont want to, its just not practical. And adding to that we are like all other artists..we like to be special...hahahahah
seriously...duh...ehhhh...damn those beers...haha
perfectly suitable adjective for this
Too many cooks spoil the broth..
Isn't it better to have a menu with different tastes on it?

i couldnt agree more...
and like itje, we are a special, but in what we like to have in a ROM.
I'm gonna have to agree with itje. I couldn't have made any of my roms without the help of itje's kitchen and everyone's help across the forum.
Although i think there might be something there.. All get together and make base rom nothing special nothing unique just the best xperia lite rom we could make and then kinda branch off from there... Might be kinda impratical for us to be able to get that done. I dunno. I must say it does make me think...
Hey guys,
I understand what ya saying. Thanks for listening anyway. Keep up the good work. Your a credit to us all... Including the moderators.... and yes your all Special! Am special too... in ward 10. I have nice white padded walls
Kind Regards,
King
Like what itje said already, we did communicate and helping each other publicly or privately. And I am very open on what I found and did on my roms.
Like food (and many different thing), there is no BEST, or ULTIMATE on rom.
Different cook has different taste and cooking style, and different consumer had different preference to suit his need in many different area such as functionality vs. size (Lite vs. full), speed vs. stability, language (WWE, German, Chinese, ....etc).
Therefore, it's simply impossible/impractical to have one(or a few) ROM that suit everybody.

It's very hard to define and agreed on "best lite rom".
For example, my V2 lite has about 382mb free storage. Is it the litest you can get? No, because I can make it even liter by removing MS Live, Office ...etc. But then some people may complaint missing this or missing that (e.g. ringtones).
It just uneasy to draw the line and agreed on any standard.
Yea that is true..... The way i originally had my lite rom was completely stripped of every thing but everyone was saying they wanted more crap thrown in............. never ending stuggle i guess. Maybe we can crack open the xperia and put high density drop in replace RAM chip
i would like to flash my own rom but where can download newest rom and oem package.

The first thing you should learn for rom cooking is read and search. Everything you need is in this forum already.
As the number of custom ROMS is growing here and some cooks are providing full/lite/meduim versions I just wanted to get an overview on what to include in a light ROM. So, please give tips on for making the best lite ROM xperiance as possible
If you are missing an option, please post it...maybe we can collect it here afterwards...
Thanks to this great community!

Trust me. Just like any other rom, "best" rom won't exist for everyone as there are always people prefer this and that.
I normally go for the "take it or leave it" approach.
Hey vibranze, you got an X1 too? Long time no chat since we move on w/ the P525. Are you going to start cooking too?
this is very useful but its missing so many things the many consider should be part of even a lite rom
some examples include: video player, youtube, sdk certificates, launchers, regediter, extention to explorer
please people vote, this will help the chefs a lot
Voted, according to the preferences of nX1i Lite rom

i think that very true for full or even medium ROMs but lite ones?!!! not so sure about that
Jack, I totally agree. my intention is not to please anyone...I rather wanted to see what the majority is thinking...as some sort of backing for a choice... thanks to all for participating!
Would it be nice to have a lite ROM that has no commercial software on it? so that some user can have the choice to install what they trully need...something that would match the personality of each user? because in case somebody want any kind of application...surely they will install it...
So probably an ideal lite ROM would be just a cleaned and optimized Basic ROM with PIM Back-up...Advanced Config...(something like that)
IMO: No panels not even panel manager. Everything should come with PIM back up and probly Jbed Java, not that Jblend nonsense.
Is there anyway that stuff cooked into a ROM can be made to appear on the 'Remove programs' list? Im sure I read somewhere that this increases ROM size.
I guess also connection setup would be a must
Only PanelManager but without additional panels
yeah, pimbackup, total commander and cjk capability is a must for me even in the lite rom
V
Intersting result (up to now):
1) office Mobile (51%)
2) Connection Setup and Opera Mobile (both 48%)
3) Java and HTC taskmanager (both 44%)
i can understand the first both...but Java? OK guy, please continue voting!!!
Thanks for all the votes up to now.
Everyone has his/her own favor. some one like full, some one like lite.some one like tf3d,some one like Today.
I don't think anyone could make all of the users happy.

different people have different tastes, will choose different food.
I think some more votes will come here soon...
Dear folks:
How many us are really looking for cooking our own rom. Information are scattered here and there and the process is not straight forward. It can be as simple as adding cabs and as complicated as perhaps changing hardware, porting roms to other devices, etc...
I think the reason why there is no tutorial for cooking the rom is because well it's difficult for one to develop that kind of tutorial, let alone his/her experience and best practices in various areas.
Ok so how to solve it? I suggest that all great cooking people out there, share to build that tutorial led by the moderator.
For example, one person could be in charge of explaining how to add CAB, another person in doing sys, another in porting, another in compiling, etc..
Clearly there will be multiple sections in that thread and it would be owesome and well organized. Even better, some topics can be jointly developed by more then one person sharing the experience and the best tricks and tips between them.
Somebody has to start this initiative, at least in defining the blocks, who is going to take the first shot and entice others to cooperate?
Samer.
sounds like a good idea i'd definitely like to know!!! im always looking for ways to build up my skills.
There's plenty of tutorials floating around... But if you want one done JUST for the TP2, I can help with that...
Im down...if not make my own, maybe help someone else. I personally think there are too many to choose from, and there needs to be a streamlined process to ensure that the ones that work, continue to get the support to make them better.
As NRG said, there are already a lot of threads and tutorials. Making a ROM is not just a Rhodium thing, it is very generic to start. Then making it Rhodium compliant might take some extra work. In any case, I am also looking to start my own kitchen so any efforts in this direction are apprciated.
I would greatly appreciate this. I am currently trying to cook my own ROM. I got the Visual Kitchen, dumped the HTC WWE 6.5 ROM and downloaded the 23518 rollup from Da_G.
I used Dump Sorter to sort the rollup and put it in the SYS folder. I moved the MSXIPKernel into ROM\Shared\23518. I selected 23518 for XIP and SYS build and left ETX at 21854. The ROM won't build. I try to make it but the file in RHODIUM_Release is only 8MB.
In the build log it says
"Executing: platformrebuilder.exe.....
platformrebuilder.exe Executed successfull!!!"
Platformrebuilder does not do anything where as if I left everything at 21854 there is a LOT of stuff that platformrebuilder.exe does.
Also in ROM\Shared\21854 there is a file xip.bin that I don't have in 23518.
Help cooking sense2.5
My problem is when trying to cook Leo sense2.5(EXT package). ( I could produce sense2.1 without any problem) . BUT ran into issues like: (see photo) or if the ROM is complete. I can't get past the installation screen, just hung there and not giving me the Today Screen. So any help would be greatly appreciative.
ps.. I did check Real WM 6.5, but ROM still won't boot.

Well first of all, it's an honor to see a great person like yourself answering my post, so my warm regards for your kindness.
Yes, I am interested obviously in TP2, although from the moment I got my hands on it, I never tried anything but EnergyRom (do you know who does them?) but it's just that I wish I can combine the latest official WM6.5 with arabic keyboard and Sense 2.5 and perhaps some cool stuff.
Indeed there are plenty of tutorials out there but maybe they are not clear enough to me, or maybe I didnt' search very well or maybe I dont know how and where to start. so yes ur input are highly welcome just like your presence.

I'd love to see one! Not that I'm not grateful to the cooks for their ROMs, I'd like to know how it's done and maybe add a few programs of my own to a ROM.
Oh, and I think it'd be best to start right at the beginning so that everyone is at the same level eventually.
Thanks!
I started cockin roms a couple years ago and said the exact same thing how the information is scattered.. i'm in, just let me know what you need and i'll help with what i can.
I also see some tutorials in many sub-forums, but having to look at 4 different pages just to do one step in cooking a ROM is a little troublesome and confusing. So here's what I think should happen:
I think there should be a sticky thread that has clear steps (a guide) on how to cook ROMs.
Then there should also be a sticky thread that has all kitchens from chefs that want to release them. (Similar to the Radio Collection Thread.)
That would help a lot of people! I want to cook ROMs when I have the time (over summer) and if (hopefully when) this happens, it would be easier for many people like me to cook ROMs.
BesFen made a solid tutorial for using Visual kitchen in the Opal forum, and I helped with that one. I think this is an excellent idea and I'd love to help with it in whatever capacity I can.
Link: Installing & Using Ervius Visual Kitchen V1.8.1 For OPAL
edit: Just read the poll results. Whoever said no is obviously not XDA material.
i dont mind helping with this
Thanks for starting this thread.. Been using excellent ROMs from NRGZ & b16b, but want to do my own thing for my Rhodium. Hopefully, this will get me to appreciate the efforts of these 2 fine cooks and use the facilities provided by XDA better..
I've been trying to wrap my head around the info provided by Da_G in this super thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445
It is taking a while for a newbie like me..
When I had my XV6800(AKA Titan) after a while of modding I started cooking my own roms. I usually removed the garbage I would never use to shrink the Rom size. I then left for a BB in Nov. 2008. Well my senses have come around and I will be back to WinMo with a TP2 on Wed. So I would like to see a kitchen to cooking rom Tutorial assuming it is different. I know that of course CDMA vs GSM will be with because of the carrier CAB. This go around I am leaving VZW to T-Mobile.
So, what's happened with this and this thread? Has it all turned out to be a p**s take?
I would love to see a cohesive tutorial on how to cook a ROM.
I've poked around in the kitchen threads but have gotten kind of lost and overwhelmed. It seems like information is so scattered around.
I've been looking for a project to do for awhile and have thought that ROM cooking might be kinda fun. Initially, I'd just like to make something with the features I want but who knows where it might go. I think I've tried every TP2 ROM on XDA-Developers now and, while I've found some excellent ones, nothing that quite screams "this is EXACTLY what I want".
So...yeah...a good "how-to" would be excellent and I'd be forever grateful.
FWIW, I'd be happy to do some trade-work in exchange for this. I've got a pretty decent technical skill set...just not one involving ROM cooking.
Same here.. I'm stuck on getting a build to use.. Looking for a good NAM build : Tilt2 stock or something for Tilt2 will be a good start..
My first attempt is with the Eruvius Visual kitchen. I think I got all the required files. There were multiple download links in the original thread. I'm guessing that I get the older version and replace the latest kitchen .exe on top.
I'd love to try to cook my own ROM. I agree that the information seems sparse and kinda scattered. My cursory browsing very much gives the vibe that information for Touch Pro 2 ROM Development has an unspoken understanding that you've made ROMs before. Not me.
I'd love a simple step-by-step tutorial (for rhodium), cause I'd like to build a simple ROM based on the latest 5.5.3/5, without manila...
Hello!
I'm a relatively new member, but have been lurking these boards for a long time now. I really admire the amazing work some of you guys do and have done.
I recently gave my beloved HTC Hero away (to my girlfriend) and switched to the awesome Galaxy S. I was a bit underwhelmed by the standard interface though (but that was to be expected) and immediately installed LauncherPro.
After applying the OCLF by RyanZA my device runs pretty smooth now. So that's great… but I still feel that, with the amazing hardware, the experience could be a lot smoother and aesthetically more pleasing.
Check out the MiUI ROM for instance (I can't post links, please search for it on YouTube or here on XDA). That looks amazing! Fantastic looks, great performance, nice innovations (widget-management) and a seamless and fluid experience.
I'd love to see something like this for our beloved Galaxy S. Maybe someone can eventually translate and port MiUI, but how about building something ourselves?
Now I'm not much of a coder, but I do know Photoshop (I'm a graphic designer) and I like to believe I know a thing or two about User Interfaces. So I could help out with/design the graphics for this.
Is there anyone that's interested and knows how and where to start with a project like this?
I`m Interested but i think i'm not that Helpfull Guy.. I'm a noob at Java and Linux so my Qualities are not enough... Too bad you can't help out with coding, but I'm interested in checking out the icons you're working on!
I see this as a great opportunity to learn a lot as well. Let's hope some advanced coders notice this thread and get interested.
Anyone else that's interested?
Hi there,
I am also very new member of this forum, so first of all "HI!" to everyone...
I started to play around with the system/themes/etc. a few weeks ago after I got the SGS (I used Motorola Milestone before). So I am definitly interested in taking part in this project, but unfotunately not much experience comes with me..
Until now I managed to build my own update.zip files to install my own apps and add some files to the system. Now I am working on "automagically" setting the APNs, default ringtone and add an app shortcut to the home screen...
Sounds like a good idea. I wish the UI had better widgets and looked a lot nicer.
I don't know much about coding but I'm into design and I'm pretty good in photoshop. So maybe I could help with the physical aspect of the UI.
PM me if anything goes ahead.
