Should Kaiser forget WPA passkeys? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi
Can the Kaiser be told to automatically connect to available networks that it knows about? And remember the key? I visit somewhere that uses WPA-PSK and has a ridiculous (though no doubt very secure) key. The network shows as 'available' but I have to go through the process of tapping 'next' a few times and re-entering the key. It's starting to get old...
Thanks
John

wireless under wm5

hallo,
I have a question about wifi under wm5.
I am trying to access 2 different networks, one at home one in the office.
the networks are set up as follows:
OFFICE
mac address filter, wpa, no ESSID
HOME
mac address filter, wep 256 bit, no ESSID
I added into both routers the mac addr of my device (thanks to vxconfig)
on my imate, in the wireless settings page, LEAP tab, I added 2 settings, one for home and one for the office.
I noticed that I'm unable to manually type in the WEP key, while I can do this at home.
As you might imagine, I'm unable to connect to either network, though I don't get any particular error message. I simply don't connect; the router's log doesn't show any kind of access.
Both networks work fine, naturally. my device works fine too, as I'm able to connect to public hotspots.
I seem to remember, but I'm not sure (hence my question), that wifi under wm5 only accepts 128 bit keys...
might this be the problem? or am I doing something else wrong?
also, is there a program that allows me to manually set the WEP key under wm5, or a program that gives greater control over wifi?
thanks!
ok, update: I don't understand how, but when I clicked on the tools button in the wireless manager page, and then on Network cards, instead of the usual network cards page there was this page in which I could insert the wep open key, etc.
I clicked on OK, then tried it again and voilà, the page has disapepared again and there is the usuale network cards page.
where has it gone??? I don't get it honestly.

Having trouble connecting to wireless

Hi,
I've got an Alpine and all the ROMs are simple out-of-the-box as from O2 back in september.
Previously, I would use it to connect to the wireless network in my university. I would turn on the wifi then select the network to connect me to the internet and then enter the wireless key we have been provided with.
However, now it just stays on 'scanning network' and doesn't prompt me to choose a network or enter any key. Sometimes it claims that an IP has been assigned, but it doesn't progress past this. I have tried soft resetting and changing the wifi from 'best battery' to 'best performance'. I have also tried being really near the router.
My friends can access this network just fine on their laptops, and when I run WiFiFoFum it shows up just fine. I am pretty certain the router is a 802.11g one, and I can't tell if it's been changed since I could access it before.
My problem is I know virtually nothing about WiFi, so I don't know how to troubleshoot this. I was hoping someone could give me a bit of help?
Thanks.
try this.
turn wifi on
go to settings
connections
network cards
see if you have networks listed, if u do delete them.
turn off wifi and turn back on again so it searches. see if it picks up the network.
Failing that what IP is it showing u, if its assigned one??

Comm Manager Question

I have done a search on this question but found nothing that relates to the problem i have.
When i go into the comm manager my "Microsoft Direct Push" and "Data Connection" buttons are greyed out, i am asuming this means they do not work?
Would this also account for the fact that i cannot connect up to my providers Edge or GPRS data connections? Because at the moment i canot access the internet using my providers Ip settings.
I have an unbranded original unlocked HTC tytn II, the ROM version is 3.29.422.1 WWE and the ROM date is 05/20/08

Has no one else had this type of problem?

I believe to have the Direct Push button light up, you need an Exchange Server email account set up.
As far as the data button, who's service are you using?
Hi GWelker62
Thanks for the reply ok i don't have exchange set up, so that would explain that one.
The service i use down here is Cable and Wireless, they use GPRS and EDGE, no 3G as of yet.

Would anyone else have an idea why the data button is greyed out? is this a service provider problem? or a phone problem.
Who is your cell service provider, at&t or T-Mobile perhaps? If it's at&t, I might be able to help with your data connection settings.
yep i did say in my second to last post, it is cable and wireless, C&W,
or as we call them careless and worthless
LOL, sorry, I misinterpreted "cable & wireless" as you were using a cable internet service with a wireless router. I'm not familiar with that company.
I can't help with their data connection settings, but I have to assume if you’re not getting any internet connection with the settings you have now, then the data button isn't going to light up either.
Ok so this is a service provider problem, and not the phone by what you are saying!
I fee much better knowing that, i just have to get on to them and find out why this is a problem
Regards
That happens on my phone, the button is grayed out until a program initiates a data connection; then the button becomes active. I believe its only for terminating a data connection as it tends to be dial as needed. Direct push is also available when there is an active data connection although it does nothing without an exchange server set up.
Hi Shub-Niggurath
Thanks for that, it makes all the sense in the world, gonna go to the network provider and see if they can help me out.
Regards
Hi GWelker62
Can i ask a favour, could you give me your AT&T setting for the phone, then i can work off of them, just using the provider over here.
I just need to see how, what and where you are putting them

WiFi not remembering key

Hello,
Ive searched and Ive searched for 2 days now on this site, b ut cant find the answer.
My Touch Pro keeps prompting my for my WiFi key. Once the key is entered, it connects OK, but if I restart it asks again.
Ive searched through the Comm manager but cant find anything that allows me to predefine a connection.
Any ideas?
thanks
Same problem on my Touch Diamond. Anybody can tell us how to save the WI-FI settings as on PC. Thanks.
Not really sure if this problem is global cause I don't face this problem it never asks me fer the network ever once i set it....
what a key is used? WPA, WPA2 or WEP? Try an other! I had this Problem sometimes with WEP-keys...
Using WPA-psk with tkip encryption. Dont really want to use WEP.
Same issue here. Using WEP encryption at work and at home, At work though, I haven't been prompted to enter it at all since the first time I logged in, at home, I'm asked each time it tries to reconnect.
Possible soultion... worked for me.
Install Schapps Advanced Config, cant find link at mo...
in Network there is a value:
WPA authentication:
set to Enabled
click Done and restart
delete the wi-fi connection and wait for the phone to find the network again.
this worked for me.

AT&T Tilt no longer connects to home WiFi network after Rom update with Windows 6.1

AT&T Tilt no longer connects to home WiFi network after Rom update with Windows 6.1
Hi all, I have searched and searched on this forum and the web without finding any kind of definitive answer. Let me also state that I am not any type of mobile developer, network administrator, or the like so any acronyms or technical tweaks may not be self-evident to me. That said....
- I upgraded the ROM without loading the bloatware, and now I cannot connect to my home wifi network (set to OPEN, WEP with default 64 bit encryption)
- home router is a 2wire HomePortal 1000HW which apparently only has 802.11b in lieu of g, which according to what I read online should not pose a problem for the Tilt.
- I CAN connect to my work network which is WPA-PSK with AES encryption.
- I hard reset the phone and tried to connect with a 'clean image' of the new ROM. No dice.
- tried hiding the SSID broadcast on the router. No go.
- I reloaded from a backup and re-entered all the wifi info on the tilt. No go.
- I tried the enable/disable proxy cabs. No go.
I noticed that the phone registered as connected to the network until I tried connecting to Google via the IE mobile browser. At the same time i got the "cannot find page" error on the browser I saw the phone go grey on the network monitor.
so that's it, I am outta luck. Help please! What is needed, a patch? Thanks in advance!
Have you changed the power saving option to best performance?
other threads would have suggested that.
You bet! Power is at best performance.
Having worked for a software company way back when, I have to wonder if this is one of those "keep a lid on it and hopefully word won't get out too much till we figure out the problem" kind of things. Very frustrating as wifi I part of why I got the damn tilt.
Very doubtful, if that were the case you would see several threads regarding this problem. XDA doesn't like lids on things.
I upgraded my Tilt to 6.1 the day it became available and it coonected right up to my Apple Airport Exteme home network with the same 6.0 settings. Even after I upgraded to Hyperdragon III, it still connected right up.
