I've installed TT7 on my Tilt and the install went fine. I've even downloaded the one free city (Miami) map. However, when I start up the software all I ever get is the waiting for a valid gps signal. I've run the quickgps to get the latest updates. Are there any other settings that I need to look at? I've read something about gpstest and gpsrouter but really don't know much about those. Am I missing something or have I done something wrong?
Update: Well I drove around for about an hour after work and it finally kicked in and started working. But, looks like I have a Map issue. I live about a mile from the ocean and Tom Tom is working cuz i see my position and the ocean is nearby. But, the area where I am is just one big green mass. I didn't see my address/street when I went to set that up either.
1) Running GPStest and minimizing it makes it get a fix sooner.
2) You are not on the map you have. Tomtom doesn't have a very large map area compared to where you want to be, apparently.
Even after downloading the latest maps for your city, some places are still not available. With TT7, I believe you can edit or download map edits and such from other users. I'm not sure whether this is only with POI's or with 'blank areas' as well.
Btw, I don't think that it would show your address when you're are home. Even after you've entered the address, it would probably show that you're somewhere very near.
had the same thing happen to me. I selected to download the free Houston, Tx map, unfortunatly I live outside of downtown, and I am in a green blob as well. If you buy a full map of your state, or find if your in a subcity (smaller city just outside) then you need to try to find the right map.
Anyone know where I can get a cab file of GPSTest?
use a search engine like google!
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=GPSTest&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=
http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=24687&associateid=9
another test tool: VisualGPSce
its best to run the test when u are outside (duhh lol found out the hard way lol, lacked common sense) i first installed the Wilmington DE map and then from my acutally GPS tomtom i copied the US and Canada Map over to my phone and ran another application to make it compatible to TT7 and now the GPS works better
Thanks for the files. Any suggestions on where to find some good maps? I drove into work this morning and the Tom Tom failed to get a connection. Has anyone else experienced and or solved this lengthy connection time issues?
Maybe I should start a new thread for this but as the title of this thread is non-specific I thought I'd post here rather than creating a new one. I installed TT7 on my kaiser yesterday after running TT6 for several months. I read that TT7 was compatible with both TT6 and TT7 maps, however when I loaded up TT7 and tried to access my existing map of Western Europe it did not appear in the list of available maps. Is there a solution for this problem or does anyone know where I can get a "trial" version of Western Europe map for TT7?

TT6 maps are NOT compatible with TT7. Also, there is no trail for WE - you have to buy it (£49.95) from TomTom and follow the instructions in respect of hacking TTH2.3 with the tweaked jar file, downloading the map you bought to your pc, manually transferring it (and the activation file) to your SD card and voila.
I did this very thing last night and it runs a treat!
Today I going on holiday by car and I need tomtom on my diamond.
I want to buy the maps for the diamond so I need build 9029 or 9030 of tomtom.
Does anybody knoes how to get it?
THX
Im using build 9028 and it works perfect.
Why do you need a special build anyway?
I can upload the cab file to rapidshare if you want.
Well i am interested if you can upload it to rapidshare.
Me too....
Here we go:
http://rapidshare.de/files/40108511/TT_Nav_7.450.9028_repack3-vga-black.cab.html
Have fun.
Build 9028 is not supported by Tomtom, and so you cannot buy cards. Yes with build 9028 you can download a free map with this version (small area/city) which works.
Better, you can buy cards via the Tomtom website, but Tomtom Home 2.3 is not working correctly (gives errors) and is needed to install the bought cards. The Tomtom servicedesk claims that version 9028 is not is supported Build 9029 is included in the German O2 rom. build 9030 is included at least in the Dutch Vodaphone rom. The widespread tomtom 7.450 is build 9028.
Tomorrow (july 30 2008) Tomtom ends buying cards with 30% discount and it would be nice for many to buy legitimate cards.
hmmm....
I didnt know that. If you get a link for the 9029/9030 build than please post in here. Maybe someone else will need it too.
But I think there was a cab file here in the forum. Did you do a search?
Ah i already have that file...
It`s the uk map i need!!!
Any idea on which maps to use for the uk with this?
Cheers.
The BLACK 9030 version that was bundled with my Vodafone ROM did not seem to support the widely available (read downloadble from all our sources) maps, activation did not seem to work. The BLUE 9028 version did.
please people, i really need tomtom to buy the maps right now

I'm using the 9028 (downloaded tt7.cab ripped from the Diamond) with TomTom home 2.3 and I bought the maps from a link on this site which takes you to the O2 XDA Diamond TomTom map page
http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php?D=1094&Language=1&P=394#
Cost me £49 but at least I don't have to f*ck around with hacks and cracks and other sh*t that will infect my PC
you pays your money you makes your choice.......

so no errors and you can update the maps with tomtom home 2.3
Worked a treat...I was a bit dumb in expecting the email sent by Tomtom to give me a download link but after you've paid just go into the 'maps' area of Tomtom home application and it'll have the Western Europe maps sat there ready for download
Oh yeah and make sure you choose the internal storage
ooops just remembered the only other thing I did was copy the Navigator, Voices and the ttnavigator file to the Program Files directory on the phone (from internal storage) it didn't give me the option to install elsewhere....(and setup a shortcut in Windows\Start Menu\Programs for the Tomtom.exe)

Did you know the version of TT7 you have here is a cracked version of the installer?
IGNORE POST IF YOU HAVE READ IT. It's been a long day
When it is a cracked version of the installer ( whatecer that means ) - where do we get a legal version of TT7 for an original HTC DIAMOND TOUCH ?
TomTom does not help

Build 9028 does not work with TomTom Home 2.3....
From what I've read here, build 9029/9030 supposedly works with TomTom Home 2.3 although I have not seen a confirmation.
What we need is someone to post the 9029 or 9030 cab
Downloading TomTom Home 2.5 and connecting Orange (and maybe all variety) Diamond causes TOMTOM to offer a free trial of TOMTOM 7.9 with trial map and access to purchase others advancing the cause of those whose Diamonds did not have TOMTOM in ROM. Win for Diamond users. Win for TOMTOM map sales.
Sounds like very good news and TT actually applying some common sense for a change.
Does Home 2.5 work with Navigator? Previous versions did not and us PDA users were forced to use Version 1.5. It is for that reason that I did not instal it when it came out.
I have a legitimate version of TT6 up and running on my TD. Does this instal wipe any previous versions of TT off, or can both run together?
Can this version read version 6 maps - I would probably buy a Europe map but have a Southern Africa map I would want to keep in case I ever visit there again.
Maybe it's just because I live in Canada, but the only map I can download is the one free map. If I try to purchase a map via TomTom Home it shows none available. Kind of annoying since TomTom is pretty much useless if you can't buy maps. It does work for all the free voices and car images, etc though. Maybe I should have selected the UK as my country when I registered....
Tomtom Hone 2.5 encourages a connected diamond user to download working version of Tomtom 7 (v 7.90)for HTC devices which replaces extracted files from Diamonds with v7 in ROM. This allowed my access to previously purchased maps (v7.45maps) which wouldn't load with previous extracted versions of Tomtom 7. Home 2.5 has version for Navigator. Purchasing from Tomtom website for Navigator 7 leads to discounted 8.15 maps. Would assume these will work. My Orange diamond worked with maps of W Europe designated for O2.
The 6.75 maps will work with TomTom 7, I'm using them together just fine.
I'm using Tomtom V8 maps with Tomtom 7 no problem.
Worked for me. But does anyone know if this is a trial software, or the full version? I wouldn't want to spend $80 on a map of Australia, if the software runs out in a couple of weeks...
TomTom itself (the program) is free, its the maps you pay for, therefore it is a full version and will not run out.
Definitely full version. Can set to have cows mooing if speed limit exceeded. Tomtom will probably advise if v 8.15 maps operate if other site users cannot say. Cannot see why not as I am sure tomtom want map sales otherwise copilot will take htc users on. Home slightly slow to catch on to what you want . You may have to purchase maps from tomtom website and use Home to transfer to diamond rather than purchasing through Home itself.
I emailed TT "support" some questions about this and here is part of their reply
"Home is offering you this application in error. It is an update to the preinstalled version of Nav 7, so probably won't work."
So there you go - all of this is a figment of your imagination. It doesn't exist and if it did it wouldn't work anyway. And it is all your fault for wanting up to date software and maps from us.
Oh and by the way they also said that TTN6 is not compatible with my TD even if it works on it. I must get a copy of their dictionary to see what there definition of compatible is.
I am so glad that Tom Tom is back to its normal ways - I don't think I could have stood the shock of them becoming helpful.
Not complaining. Best example of unsolicited goods I've had in a long time. Is it tomtom's reluctance to preload in all markets or mobile companies wanting you to use their navigation system with costly data downloads?
Okay I did a search and I have read all the tomtom vs Igo8 topics I am looking for a REAL version not a warez and with Maps that are supported and updated I can't even get maps for my tomtom7 PDA anymore (Unless I am just looking in the wrong spot, I have tomtom home Installed it says no maps are available)
It would be nice if I could try it out for a few days to make sure I like it before plopping down 100+ bucks When I do a google search for I-go 8 I get pages and pages of torrents and cracks and warezs but no site to buy a real version
Any suggestions (with links please)
I have the full streets and trips 2009 you used to be able to export maps from that to a pocket edition for pda I can't even find that option anymore (maybe I am just having a bad day)
US MAPS or Oregon
http://www.navngo.com/pages/global/eng/where_to_buy
first site that popped up when i put igo8 in google. i linked the where to buy section
i love igo8 and cant think of using any of the other gps programs
i have been using igo8 for a while now.
as much as i love tomtom, i prefer igo8 with TTS
I'd recommend Garmin Mobile XT. I ran TomTom 6, then TomTom 7 on my Kaiser. Wasn't that happy with it. I've looked over iGo a few times, I just didn't like that it wouldn't let me navigate to a contact. Too much trouble. Plus, Garmin lets me get important information like gas prices, etc., and I can do google searches through it.
That's just my opinion though..

iGo;
or iGuigance

I navigate my contacts with no problems...only prerequisite for an address is no apartment/suite number in the contact's address. You can also go into 'Manage/Geocaching errors" inside igo8 to check addresses that cannot be found'.
I like some features of iGo8 (TTS and how much you can customize it mainly), but I find myself going back to Garmin Mobile XT all the time.
1) Garmin's routes seem to be better for me.
2) If you have data you can get fuel prices (might be a day or 2 old, but is handy while traveling).
3) You don't have to worry about your POIs being out of date since you can use Google Local Search (if you have data)...its gotten me out of a few binds before.
If you don't have data, then I would say iGo, but if you have data, then the Garmin Online features makes it over the top for me and well worth the money.
Why to pay ? Everything can be found for free
TomTom in not good choise - interface/maps etc. isn't very good. Don't have same feeling when use garmin or igo8. Garmin is best, maps are awesome. I know that garmin interface is not so briliant, but it do the job.
Also and igo8 is good, especially interface & tmc service, but maps are awful. Countries like macedonia and balcan are not covered well.

Serbian map (last update) is pretty good now, though still noticeably worse than Garmin. TomTom sucks big time.
i'm using tomtom7 with no problems. have tried igo8 but seems too slow for me. have used garmin before on my prophet and it was good.
overall, i prefer garmin, since it can use non garmin original maps - you can even make your own customised maps or just search for them on the net. i used the malsing maps when i went back to malaysia for a visit. very handy
try Copilot..love it ..had it for last 4 yrs since the first..Vario..copilot 7 is even better
inav iguidance 2009
ive used tomtom, garmin, and igo8 before. non of them beat iguidance. iguidance will announce the name of the street for you. example, "turn left on Wall St." instead of "turn left ahead".
garmin xt is great. especially if you are looking for accuracy
go to pocketnow.com and check out urban horizon, they have a 14 day free trial and it looks pretty cool you can either use it with data only and not store maps. or you can decide to download maps to device by state or region. im about to test it out in a bit when i get the newyork maps downloaded
i love my sprint telenav, especially the new VGA one for the TP... =) graphics are 10x better and it supports all my needs "gas prices, hotels, routes, point by point directions, ect"... i have the everything plan so its included for free...
I use Sygic McGuider in my Toshiba(WM Standart). Perfect, multiplatform solution from Slovak developers, very nice voices, nice graphics, perfect navigation... I don't know, how are the maps in US,but in EU is it very good.
Hi folks,
I'm looking to see how i can purchase maps for tomtom for my fuze legally. I've downloaded the free city maps, but I want the whole map of the US/Canada and western Europe.
After installing TomTom Home, it does not show any maps available for purchase for my device.
If I go to their web site, it shows that the european maps are the only ones available for raphael. I even looked at purchasing the maps for other htc phones, but no us/canada maps were listed.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thx.
It should be right here: http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php?D=191&SD=142 took me hardly 1 minute....and i'm located in europe watching the site in my own language (meaning US not showing up is even more likely)... Did u smoke 'n surf?
Be nice Alibaba0101 was searching for "Fuze".....

The map is highlighted in green, but if you use the drop down list there are no maps for the US and Canada actually available. According to TomTom, there will be no maps made available for WinMo beyond version TT6 PDA. So maybe that is why I cannot see them up there either.
It seems like Garmin, TomTom and even Navigon have all set their sites/focus on iPhone apps and WinMo is getting left behind.

Can you blame them with Winmo's track history on pirated apps, it seems they have left it unwatched for so long developers dont have any love for winmo anymore!
Exactly. WinMo isn't forgotten, it's remembered as a haven for theft. Who's going to bother with that?
Have u guys tried waze? If so any feedback?
It shouldn't be easier to use this stuff illegally than to actually purchase it. So i can download it from half a dozen warez sites, but if I actually want to use it legally, the option is not available.
i ended up getting a vodafone prepaid card when in the UK and just used google mobile maps instead. That way i didn't have to pay the $20/meg that AT&T wanted to charge me and still was legal.
Took quite a bit to get it to work, but once working i was able to use it for internet access and gps while i was in the UK.
Not bad. 50pence per day for internet usage of up to 25megs. And the fuze works on the vodafone 3g band. Compared to paying the hotel 15pounds for 1 hour of internet usage.
