Problems on net with XDA2s - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi, When surfing the net I am unable to click on certain buttons on web pages. For example "Place Bid" on ebay or "Log On" on The Cloud, which is really annoying especially when I've just paid for 30 mins, lol

you should prob just use another less poor browser then ie
like opera mobile

cheers, that's done the trick but I didn't really want to have to pay for a browser. Isn't there a free one around?

Unlimited web access : what to do ?

Hi,
I subscribed to an unlimited web access (not emails) with my kaiser.
What would you do with this ?
Which software using the web would you install ?
(for example weather app,...)
Thanks
david
Obvious answer would be to browse the internet whenever you wanted. There are several weather programs out there ranging from SPB to the plugin in HTC Home and find the one that suits you best (not a big weather fan but i just use the HTC Home one when i want to find out anything about the weather).
Thanks
Of course, web browsing is one of the use I like
The weather soft is installed, it was an example ; it was the kind of software I did not install before in order to avoid network fees...
But now, I can install whatever I want using the network, I do not care ;-)
You can get GoogleMapMobile and use your GPS like all the time, while being in your country . No need of GPS software.
Couple of network dependent apps I like are;
Skyfire (browser, currently in beta) renders pages really well, and supports java, flash, silverlight, etc for the 'full web experience'
Microsoft Live Search or Google Maps (I prefer Live Search for it's additional enhancements including voice command)
MSN Messenger
Skype

Argh I envy you having Skyfire.. I didn't get into the beta program, any chance you could send me a copy to try out?? Not a chance if it's keyed I guess, but if not I'd very much appreciate it ;-)
I condone Google Maps as an excellent program for use on the Kaiser if you have unlimited nets, I use it as free GPS navigation software. Excellent because if you want to find a contact's address you can look it up straight from Google Maps.
Also, Opera Mini is THE browser to use if you aren't lucky enough to have Skyfire. It decimates PIE in page load times as (like Skyfire) web content is compressed at the server side before being sent to your phone, and the interface is intuitive and easy to use. No flash unfortunately, but for reading news sites, browsing xda-dev (of course) or any other generic web use it's perfect.
I got into the Skyfire beta yesterday using phelps8 as the code. Haven't used it too much yet, but impressed so far.
Yeah to sign up;
http://www.skyfire.com/sign-up/ and enter the code phelps8
Good luck.
Skyfire is the best browser out there, and it is Free!!. like google maps Skyfire has a working street view.
I also have weather panel with weather local and US maps (radar and clouds) updating every hour for two cities! it's unlimited internet!

Just as a matter of interest, why subscribe to an unlimited plan if you didn't already know if you needed it?

Surf web as desktop?

Hi. some websites open as wap or mobile version with the compact IV. this especially with Ebay and can't access all the features you find on normal webpage. How can I make the phone surf as a desktop? in my old various II with wm6 it had advantage options you could choose this...
You can either use Opera Mobile or change the regedit value to render full pages (try Schap's Tool).
opera
thanks. I tried the opera (w&w) as well but same issue. websites still recgnize it as phone and open mobile versions of the sites...
Opera has never opened up a mobile page for me. If that doesn't work, then the regedit will certainly fix it as it'll tell the website to recognize it as some desktop browser hence the reason it'll open it as a desktop page.
there is a option in settings for Opera which u can uncheck to stop it sending the Mobile info.
opera
Hi.. I did find that option, dont know how I missed it! However unticking it... websites like ebay.co.uk opens up with wap version... (in ebay you can choose to open the 'classic' screen although) but other websites such as www.univision.com opens as wap version even though the option is unticked in Opera...
strange.
I have the opposite problem... I can't open any wap sites in Opera, somehow it always launches the full webpage. It's not always good since I pay a lot for the data traffic. As long as I'm on WIFI it's great of course...

Avantgo everywhere

Hello
from the dark ages with PALM I have a Avantgo account.
The PPC software did not very well but now I figured out that I can access my Avantgo channels via the Webbrowser (PIE and Opera9.5 tested positive).
Simply type "http://m.avantgo.com/ui" and login.

Highc
Do you use it online or off?
I had an account with them as well, used it with a Compaq 3635. (I loved that thing!) But haven't looked at them in years. Is AvantGo still relevant on a web enabled phone? I guess if you dont have a data plan it is. The whole concept is offline browsing, isin't it? Is there a compelling reason to use their service when I can just go to the actual website?
Yes, it is

Hi
there is a reason for me to still use Avantgo instead of browsing directly to a web page. But this is just my reason.
There are still a lot of homepages which are not designed for Mobiles.
And in Avantgo you can add your own Channel which points to a Homepage and converts it to a usable mobile view.
With this I have my "private" mobile view on all pages I'd like to see on my web enabled phone.

I wish that opera would just go away. It is a clunky and impossible to use web browser that serves no purpose other than to divide the competition against MS.
And now wow, they threw in a web server.... in violation of the terms of service of 99% of ISPs. *GOOD MOVE!!!* (thats sarcasm in case you missed it)

What the hell is wrong with you? Internet Explorer, especially for WM, SUCKS! Opera Mobile and Mini are super fast, and very usable, even on my old HTC Touch.
While I prefer Safari to Opera on my desktop (I do like Opera more on Windows though), Opera for Windows Mobile is the best browser I've used on Windows Mobile.
yeh, opera mini is pretty good stuff to use with WM!
Hey Bro.
Opera starts since 1997 .
Tell Mozilla to beat that .
Opera created tabs, session managers and mouse gestures which IE and Netscape didnt have during that time.
Have you guys tried the opera:config hack? (on desktop)
Type that in the address bar.
Go to performace and change everything to 9999 except for HTTP error strategy.
Sometimes the hack might revert back to 1 , so if you find your opera slowing down, go back and do the hack again.

Credit Card transactions over Winmo Internet

Hello all,
I am curious as to how secure the various browsers are on Winmo 6.1 are.
I'm currently using Opera Mini as my main browser but also have Internet Explorer and Opera.
I'm thinking of using mainly for ordering goods over the internet or checking my bank account details...is this wise with Winmo??
Is there any difference between the 3 browsers for security. I tend not to use Skyfire as I'm led to believe that details are sent to their servers first...is this true with other browsers too.
Thanks in advance for any help
Opera Mini also connects through Opera's servers to compress the web pages you view, while Opera Mobile and Pocket Internet Explorer both directly connect to the web site's server.
Personally, I'll only use browsers that use direct connections, but that's just my opinion.
Concerning security in general, as long as you're browsing SSL-encrypted sites ("https" instead of "http") you'll be fine.
However, if you're connecting through Wi-Fi networks, especially unsecured ones, you can never be sure who's listening in on whatever you're doing on the Internet. Basically, even in this case you should be fine when using SSL-encrypted sites, although it's possible for an attacker to fake the security certificates. In this case your browser will alert you that something may be wrong with the certificate though, which usually isn't the case on a legitimate web site.
Thanks for your answer...
I had a feeling that Opera Mini may have been similar in it's working to Skyfire hence I have until now only used that for browsing and posting on forums such as now.
I will in future use either Opera or IE for any kind of purchasing or banking transactions...
Cheers
