Greets,
I am very new to the tilt and when I restart it, it always goes into landscape mode, even when closed.
Any ideas how to get it to portrait mode when closed?
Thanks!
Go into the Settings > Screen option, and with the device closed make sure the radio button for "Portrait" is selected. Should fix it.
Ok
Thank you.

There seem to be issues with Windows Mobile 6.1 and Landscape.
If you switch the display to landscape, and reboot the phone, it will change back to portrait.
If you press the missed calls button in HTC Home while in landscape, it will switch back to portrait.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Alright, I fixed the missed calls issue with a new dialer, but the phone still consistantly boots into Portrait.
i'm not too sure but i would assume u have a kaiser...and when u say it boots into portrait i assume its a soft reset or a power on...and i assume that when you're in landscape mode u have the hardware keyboard slid out...if it boots to portrait...cant u just slide in n out the keyboard to have it go back to landscape?
Sure, when I slide out the keyboard, it goes into landscape. However, when I close it again, it goes back into portrait.
If, after the phone has booted, I go into Screen options and change it back to Landscape, it will stay in landscape regardless of what I do.
When I soft-reset, it goes back into portrait. If they keyboard is open, it will start in portrait, then shift into landscape. Upon closing the keyboard, it's back to portrait.
This is the default behavior for HTC devices. My Wizard did this just like my Tilt. I would suspect the cause is because when you slide out the hardware keyboard, a sensor activates a service running in the WM subsystem that tells WM to rotate the screen.
However, if you actually go into the screen options and change the default screen orientation to landscape, the registry is updated to reflect landscape as the new default orientation.

So yeah, done that.
Windows Mobile 6.0 did not have this problem. If you set it to Landscape in screen options, and rebooted, it would stay in landscape. This issue with it always booting in portrait is new in 6.1.
Same problem here.. anybody found any solution? Thanks.
"TouchPal supports Landscape mode. You don't switch TouchPal to Landscape mode. Instead, you should switch your device to Landscape mode, and TouchPal will switch to Landscape mode automatically."
How do I put my Diamond in landscape mode?
Thanks,
Jon
You need to tweak the registry.
change->
HKeyLocalMachine/System/GDI/Rotation
Change the "HideOrientationUI" from 1 to 0
change "LandscapeFixed" from 1 to 0.
Then you can swith from settings/screen or change the key(call) to switch orientation.
Or load GSen and have which ever mode you feel like in an instant by rotating the phone.
So with GSen, can I just rotate my phone and so when using typing text messages, the keyboard will get wider?
sort of.... if you rotate the phone, the keyboard will get wider in a sense that its longer with less hight. The keys then shift around slightly.
Try it, its free and its great. Don't like it? Delete it.
Thanks for the Gsen suggestion. I have installed it and it doesn't do anything, even after rebooting.
Start Menu-> Programs -> Gsen
You won't get any acknowledgment on screen or anything, just click it once. If you click it again you will be told its unloaded. Once you have it loaded (by clicking once)..... turn the phone and wait a second
If you like it, you can then copy this to the startup directory so it autoruns when you boot.
edit: it also installs two other apps. Not sure what they are but i've never needed them so don't worry about them, just leave them sitting happily where they are.
Ahh fab! All working now thank you!
No worries ... great app eh!
Something strange happened. I lost the Start menu bar at the top. Cured itself after rebooting. Does this happen often?
aahhh now i had that issue but it went when i put on a cooked rom (Diamond TLR).
Ahh ok. Well, perhaps its time for me to choose a ROM. Now that is going to completely do my head in!
just startup from landscape mode and always run as Landscape Mode ?do not run portrait?
i'd also like to know but what i have done is set the left softkey to rotate the screen but the annoying thing is once you slide out the kayboard and slide it back in again it goes back to portrait

hmmm i know there is an option for this in Advanced Config - try that maybe
advanced config ? there are no such items to keep landscape mode?
Go to and regedit
HkLM/System/GDI/Rotation/camAppActive and change it to 1
And the screen wont rotate but if you soft reset or enter x1 camera the screen should rotate again.

hey guys!
i was wondering if any of you guys know a trick or a setting to keep it on landscape mode the whole time.
the problem im having is that when i set it to landscape mode then use the slide out keyboard, when i slide the keyboard back to its hidden position, the screen automatically goes back to portrait mode.
thanks
AFAIK it is impossible.
start...settings...personal...buttons...Left key....assign Rotate screen
Maybe this is something you can use:

This trick works. but when I get or make a phone call by pressing the call button, it switches back to the portrait mode and does not come back after quitting that screen...Does anyone know how to keep it in landscape even while making a call? BTW, I am using 826x ROM.
Thank you.

Hi
I my HTC viva i used the app called advance config program and made Landscape option appear in Screen settings and when i am in the Home screen it changes back to Portrait mode...
I redo the step and made not to show that option in screen settings....
Now the problem is that the Boot screen pic comes in landscape ( windows mobile 6.1 ) and the home screen also and when the it display launching Touch Flow, it turns back to portrait mode....
Pls help me out guyzzz.....
I did not install any theme andall....
landscape mode is not compatible in TouchFLO, that's why there's no Rotate shortcut in WM6.1... when you're in portrait mode, restart your phone and hopefully everything will be back to the normal portrait mode.
Thanks Buddy....
Still the problem is there...
And now a new prob, i use to type msg in Full Querty only, when i tun off and turn on the mob it comes back to compact Querty....
hard reset is your last resort.
How to backup my Sim contact and how to hard reset it....
Will app installed in my MMC card should it be reinstalled?
your SIM card contacts will not be affected but ALL files in your MAIN memory will be erased... and you have to reinstall again ALL your games and apps.
to hard reset your Viva... press both green and red button together and power off... then follow the on-screen instruction.
best of luck mate!
Thanks m8....
