I've got 2 accounts set up on my Tilt, one's Gmail and the other is with Comcast. For whatever reason, when I check Comcast it takes forever to finally come back with a response. It sits at 'Connecting...' for maybe 5-10sec and then 'Logging on...' for a good 45-60secs which is too long. Gmail comes back in like 3secs. On my pc at home it goes extremely fast so I know it's not on Comcast's end.
This happens whether I connect via wifi or 3g... For battery purposes I have it set to manually check, plus I check more often than 2hrs. XpressMail hasn't impressed me but if there's another method that might work better, I'm all ears!
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I had the same problem when I used to have comcast e-mail. When you set up your comcast e-mail did you let Windows set it up? I suggest manually inputing the incoming and outgoing mail server settings. I would suggest checking those as they relate to Comcast settings.

Yeah I double checked those again and they're set the exact way as they are on my desktop pc, with the exception for outgoing mail which is necessary... Very weird... Thanks for the response though!
I think Comcast does that because it's out of network, . On my laptop, when I'm out of network it takes a long time to check too. This happened with my last smartphone also, so it's not a Kaiser issue at least.

Yeah I had the same problem with comcast. You might want to call 1-800-266-2278 and ask if they have some settings for mobile phones that might help. Other than that I really don't know sorry. Maybe another user here might be able to assist you.

Deffinately not specific to the Kaiser...this happened on my Cingular 8125 (Wizard) and At&t 8525 (Hermes) as well.
Well I just needed to make sure it's not something I was doing wrong on my end. If that's how it is, that's how it is. Not too big a deal but never hurts to ask right?
Thanks for the input!
After searching a good bit, I found a forum that said that even though the settings aren't checked for SSL, that it still goes through and does this. They said there was a tweak program or something to disable this. Not sure if that makes sense but I know that SSL is disabled in my setting under Comcast... could that be related?

Yup-mine was the Cingular 3125
(On a side note
totally glad I got ATT to let me out of the 2 yr hardware contract to upgrade to the Tilt-took a bit,but they agreed, had to make my case that they allowed upgradin to the iThing with no penalty, and after going to a 3rd level supervisor-was able to get the Tilt-and no penalty-had a yr left on my 3125 contract and they left me like that-so next yr can upgrade again at no penalty.)

Wow,
Tried that, and it messed up my settings-didn't work, comcast wouldn't even connect.
So I removed the tweak program, soft reset the phone and deleted my comcast account and re-set it up and BINGO!! checks like instantaneous now!!
Don't know if that tweak modified the registry and left it that way or what, but after removing that tweak program and resetting my email account and a soft phone reset it works awesome!! lol go figure.
Anyone know where to look in the registry for that disable ssl?

Found the problem-and a reg hack
Found the issue-
It turns out that the issue lies with the Comcast server. The short answer is that the Comcast server does not have SSL enabled and the mobile operating system (2003, WM5/6) thinks it does.

WARNING: This regedit turns off SSL for e-mail, so if you are concerned about it,or use another e-mail app that needs it, don't use this fix.
Here are the directions:
Follow these steps using any register editor software for Pocket PC.
1. Open Registry editor.
2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox
3. Create a new DWORD value "ForceOffSSL" and give it a value of 1, Base=Decimal (tap Edit, and New DWORD Value).
4. Soft-reset device.

Well for whatever reason, once I did that registry edit, I couldn't check either email account that I have in my device. It just kept stalling out at 'Connecting...'
I soft rebooted and attempted it twice with no luck. Any ideas?
Yup-
My fault-just googled for it and saw that regedit. Sorry, pulled a noob error , didn't test it b4 I posted and didn't realize that that it works for WM5. Seems it doesn't work on WM6. My apologies. I just deleted the key after testing it and I'm back to normal logon-sloooooooooooooow

No worries. I did the same to fix it. No problems now.
re slow email, microsoft strikes again
I had the same problem only with 2 comcast accounts. AT&T uses the xpressmail client for the first email account (as xpress mail can only handle one account) and outlook for all subsequint accounts. any account works just fine in the xpress mail and any outlook account is delayed at login. delete xpress mail and all the accounts lag. There is no way around this other than a third party email client. I have had good luck with Profimail (though I hate thier buttons) and flexmail. both are available as trials on Handango. I hate the thought of spending $30. on an email client but if your Tilt is set for fairly constant email updates the lag times add up and kill the battery very quickly. If any one knows of a cost effective (cheap) client let me know.
This worked for me

Hi everyone,
I've been searching for a solution for my problem on here through the forum's search and the Google search all day but haven't found one yet so I'm finally throwing my hands up in frustration and posting hoping that some of the very talented and kind folks online can help me out.
I bought an AT&T Tilt last month and the pocket IE worked fine on it when I was using it with AT&T in Northern California. I am using Dutty's WM6 rom and the .17 radio.
I then flew out to Islamabad, Pakistan where I am currently staying. I used the SIM-unlocker found on this forum and everything seemed ok. Pocket IE continued to work on my network here (Mobilink, they have GPRS and EDGE). Then suddenly 2 weeks ago, pocket IE stopped working. Now whenever I try to load a page in it, it just gets stuck at "Locating" and the animation looking for the website keeps going in circles. It never finds the site. I've tried all kinds of different websites and always no luck.
At the same time, Opera works 100% without any sort of problem. Also I am able to use the built-in WM6 e-mail manager to check my Gmail over IMAP over the same GPRS/EDGE connection so I know my connection is fine. Pocket IE still doesn't work. I checked in connection settings to make sure there was no proxy enabled, that both my networks were set to my provider (mobilink)'s connection settings and I double-checked my connection settings with my provider. I feel as if it isn't their fault since all my colleagues are able to use their phones and the Internet and even on my device, the other applications such as Opera and built-in mail work. I also downloaded the Gmail java applet and even that works perfectly.
I'm at my wit's end about what I should do or try that could make a difference and I would sincerely appreciate any help anyone can offer. I've heard of a disablehiddenproxy option but have so far been unable to find that .cab file anywhere that I could download it...and I'm not sure if that fix would apply for me since I am no longer using the AT&T/Cingular network.
Please help! Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hi,
I'm back with a solution to my own problem, it seems!
I did find the disablehiddenproxy.cab here and installed it.
I then did a soft reset (pushed the stylus into the little reset hole) and when the phone turned back on, pocket internet explorer is once again working perfectly.
Thank you XDA developers for providing all this information for free!
thanks - you just saved my day.
i was clueless to why my PIE didnt work all of a sudden - and now it works again...

Hi Everybody,,having problems with 3G speed and can't figure out why?
I am in Calgary, with HTC Tytn that I have had for 1 1/2 years. Ever since I could see them experimenting with 3G (could see the icon) I was waiting for the day that I could see the benefits of 3G. Well,, my speed of download is miserable, even with full 3G bars. I have all the proper icons showing up on top, 3G,, and when downloading internet page I see the H icon appear. An aquaintance in Winnipeg, said that he almost gets Wifi speed with 3G.. I have put a new sim card (thought that might be a reason, because it was out of my old blackberry). I am really depressed ,especially when I went to download an internet page on a demo iPhone and was blown away by the speed, which I don't have. I now hve Schaps 4.31 and Radio 1.51,, and basically, since owning the unit have never had the speed. Can anyone possibly help me figure out what is wrong? Perhaps over chat, skype? I have always used Lurch's settings whenever I put in a new Rom, and I feel that all HSDPA is enabled through Schaps config, and elsewhere. Any help would be most welcome. I still love my TyTN,, Thanks for any help you can give to me. I have of course IE browser, but also Opera
worked for me too
But what the heck caused it in the first place.

You just saved me to. PIE stopped working for no reason a few months back. I have been looking for a fix without sucess untill now. Thanks once again!
Gas Addict - another thank you - worked like a charm.
For my education - can anyone explain the hidden proxy issue.
What is it? where did it come from? and where did it go to? and why was the problem intermittent? PIE locked only 80% of the time - sometimes it worked OK only to fail again... Tks again
The hidden proxy, is exactly what is says it is...A hidden proxy. The proxy allows AT&T users to connect to medianet services via their phone's internet connection. If you disable the proxy you will not be able to connect to medianet services (such as typing "home" and it takes you to AT&T's medianet site).
If you are not using AT&T then you should have it disabled in the first place. My guess is that some piece of software enabled the this proxy somehow. All the cab does is reset IE to autodetect if there is a proxy, which can also be done in Kaisertweaks.
Nothing too exciting to reveal, but since all you guys wondered what it did, i thought i'd look and let you know. It's just a provisional xml file that inputs some settings and registry edits.
Did you mean "If you are not using AT&T then you should have it DISabled in the first place"?

Thank you for the CAB file. The file fixed my IE issue on unlocked ATT Tilt on Rogers Network.
Pocket IE back in line
No idea why my PocketInternetExplorer could all of a sudden only open locally stored .htm files, but nothing on internet anymore. OperaMini 4, OperaMobile 10 and SkyFire browsers continued working without any problem.
A few applications rely on a functioning PIE, so could not be used as a result.
Luckily this .CAB did the trick for me too, many thanks Gass Addict!

1. I bought from att and flashed it with the htc rom and now when I press the "@" it turns into "!" and some other buttons too but I can't remember which. how do i fix this?
2. Do I need a data connection in order to use the email or can I just use wifi?
I tried using wifi but it doesn't work. It says "the message could not be sent. check that you have network coverage."
3. what is the best gps to use with the tilt? I couldn't get tomtom to work because it couldn't detect my internal gps.
4. any awesome programs I should know about?
I don't know much about it but I would read a thread like this if your keyboard is messed up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334911
thats perfect thanks man! but how do i install?
For TomTom, try this thread.
For email, are you using your own WiFi, or a hotspot somewhere? I find that when I am at home and using WiFi, I need to set my SMTP server to my ISP's, but if I am away from home and using GPRS I have to set the SMTP server to that of my mobile provider. I would guess it's the same for using different Wifi networks, since most won't allow you to send email via SMTP server A whilst connected to a network using SMTP server B. This is called relaying, and is to prevent spam mail being sent. Course I could be totally wrong, and your problem is something else!
Can you surf the net via WiFi? If so, try setting the device up for hotmail (just get a hotmail account if you haven't got one) and try sending mail from Hotmail. If you can do this, its more likely either a SMTP server problem, or go through the email settings menu, click on advanced server settings and see what the network connection is. It should be "The Internet".
For a must have program....since you seem to be using the phone for internet connections, get Opera Mobile. It's free and a substantially better browser that the stock Pocket IE. Other than that, browse the forums, you will find so much! Have a look for my post in this thread. Lots of idea's for programs!

1.) Get the keyboard fix, its in the CAB list, its under "Tilt keyboard fix".
2.) Try seeing what it is connecting to and if your wifi modem is letting it connect to it
3.) Probably Tom Tom the one made for the tilt. Its on here somewhere.
4.) CAB List has some . PM me and I will tell you some more in detail.

Why do people try to drive people away from the tilt? Most of the regular users wont see the problem, they will just see that its a bit slow when doing things and overall its a great phone. If you see that its a slow phone then you are over using it.

Hi everybody,
I'm really struggling with the BBC for the Tilt. I would MUCH rather use ActiveSync, but it's against company policy so I'm SOL on that. I'm forced to either buy a Blackberry and give up my Tilt or install BBC. I chose the later.
I've been having problems with it ever since and I've had trouble finding resources to help out (mainly because most people don't use BBC on Tilt).
Here are the problems:
1. BBC often will randomly say "suspended by user" (even though I haven't), which prevents me from getting new messages, and unless I'm always looking to see if the service is running, I'll never know if I'm not getting email or if it suspended itself
2. BBC will just as often randomly say, "blocked - radio in use".
3. I can't get any integration going with the calendar at all. And when I receive calendar/meeting requests, it comes to the Tilt as email messages, not as meeting requests, so I can't accept them and add it to my calendar
Now, the limited amount of information I was able to find suggests that problem #2 may have something to do with interference with ActiveSync. I've tried the technique where I add a fake server source then make the schedule manual, but ActiveSync still won't go away permanently. I use it to access my Tilt files through Windows, so I can't uninstall it altogether. Also, when I tried to uninstall it before, it deleted all of my non-SIM contacts from the Tilt along with it, because all of my contacts were imported from Outlook.
Anybody have any ideas or solutions?
I think these are common issues, especially if you are using the Tilt on AT&T.
1) I'll go days without losing connection to blackberry services then it seems like it will lose it every night for 2 or 3 days. It may be related to activesync or it may be related to network issues. I always check the blackberry icon. If there's a "!" there, I know I need to reconnect.
2) At least with AT&T, you can only have one active data connection. Either it's the blackberry service or it's something else. The something else is active and keeping the blackberry service from connecting.
3) Check your pim options screen and make sure the calendar box is checked. If I remember correctly, when I first installed it was not checked by default. Contacts, tasks and notes are also configured in this screen.
You may have a point about activesync. I always kill it when I can but it auto starts. If I understand correctly, it is checking or setting the network time?

Yeah, that's what I usually have to do, but I hate that I have to do it - it defeats the purpose of push email if you have to always check to see if it's still pushing, lol.
People have recommended uninstalling ActiveSync when using BBC, but I can't possibly see how that's practical because I use ActiveSync to maintain my contacts and to add music and files to my Tilt. Is there some other way of doing this without using ActiveSync?
2) At least with AT&T, you can only have one active data connection. Either it's the blackberry service or it's something else. The something else is active and keeping the blackberry service from connecting.

That's what I've read. But there have been times when I've done a Stop All on all services, and I still got a radio in use message. Strangely, there have been times when both ActiveSync and IE were running and I was able to get BBC running no problem. The inconsistency is maddening because it becomes impossible to isolate and cause and solve it.
3) Check your pim options screen and make sure the calendar box is checked. If I remember correctly, when I first installed it was not checked by default. Contacts, tasks and notes are also configured in this screen.

Whatever is being maintained by ActiveSync (contacts) is greyed out on my Tilt, but everything else (calendar, notes and tasks) is checked, so I should be OK. But calendard items are still arriving in my inbox as regular email.

Interesting. I thought I was doing something wrong since people swear by that technique as a way to get ActiveSync to go away permanently. But it always comes back for me.
It says "radio in use" when Media.Net is active possibly through a IE or weather type program.
Some of the NEWER ROMS allow dual connections for BBConnect & Media.net. I saw a thread yesterday that showed the precise registry entry to make to allow this without burning a new ROM.
What thread was this? And when you say "newer ROMS" are you referring to official ROMs like the one on the HTC website or the XDA ROMs?
Demigawd,
Make sure the wireless calendar service (cical) is running properly. What version of bbc are you running? I'm running 4.0.0.97. It's behavior is a bit different than previous versions. It seems to block other data connections instead of bb getting blocked.
The only other suggestion I have is to remove and reinstall bbc. I would also have bes sync everything including contacts until you are sure calendaring is running correctly. If it's still not working correctly, maybe check your bes for a non-standard it policy.
I think the registry entry for multiple data apns is volatile and gets overwritten after every soft reset. A custom rom is probably the only way around that.
So I have had the ATT Tilt for a few months now. I love it, it does everything I need, how ever a few things are driving me insane about the phone. Please help figure these out.
btw I upgraded to WM 6.1, everything was fine for about 2 weeks and now it is acting up.
1) I know this isnt related to windows mobile upgrade, but when I send a text, is there any way to stop it from notifying me "message sent" alert?
2) This started to happen this past week and has never done it before. I have the device setup to check my att mail. Everything is fine, downloads messages, but when trying to send a message, it tells me "The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and your account information is correct. Then try sending again"
Like I said, everything was fine, until this past week. Never changed any settings, I have a strong 3g signal and I am connected to my home WiFi. If I disconnect from WiFi, it doesnt matter and I still get that error message.
3) When turning the screen display on, sometimes it turns on then off real quick. Its fine if I try it again and is only a fraction of a second, but when it does it 5 times a day, it gets annoying.
4) This is a big one that I cant stand. Every 10 minutes it tells me "you have such and such messages unread" notification. Granted there might be some email that is unread and I understand it, but how do I disable those notifications from popping up all the time??
One more question and it is a bit off topic. Help me understand how a ROM works. If I install a new ROM, that doesnt get rid of WM6.1 but more changes the interface of the pda right? If I change the ROM, will I still have all my normal functions of the pda? (camera, 3g, calender, etc....) Please help me understand how it works and what would be the most stable ROM.
Thanks everyone!
Sounds like someone needs to look at KaiserTweak for at least one problem.
The ROM is everything. It's windows, it's the software on it, the addons.. ALL OF IT. Of course you can add to it yourself but it's everything that you had on your phone when you turned it on after a flash. If there was no ROM at all you would just have empty memory on your phone.
I'm sure someone will have something more scientific to say but thats really all you need to know about that.

2) This started to happen this past week and has never done it before. I have the device setup to check my att mail. Everything is fine, downloads messages, but when trying to send a message, it tells me "The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and your account information is correct. Then try sending again"

What are you using for your smtp server? cwmx.com? If so, that server is notoriously unreliable and has been known to be down for a couple of days. I experienced my last straw several months ago and since then, I have been using my ISP's smtp server (my ISP allows this; not all ISPs do).
Having stated that, though, on a few occasions I had solved the problem by simply deleting the account on my phone and re-setting it up. On those occasions, cwmx was fine; it was just something with my account setup on the phone. Like you, nothing was changed by me, but obviously something got corrupted/damaged somewhere.
My recommendation to you is to use your ISP's smtp server and if you are unable to do so, then try deleting and re-setting up the account on your phone.
I have the same problem with sending emails.
Its not the smtp server, it does not matter what SMTP server it was, but its WM6 itself.
The only way I know to solve it is to delete the email account, and enter everything again. Which is a nuisance because you have to type the email that you wanted to send, all over again.
this looks promising, I am giving it a try once I get home.
Do report as well if you can get it to work.

I have a Fuze set up for tethering using the native "Internet Sharing" app on AT&T.
It's set up using MediaNet (I'm not paying the tethering monthly fee).
As far as I can tell - everything is working as it has for a long time now
EXCEPT Facebook. I've tried multiple browsers and got nothing.
When I brought up a proxy Facebook came up with all the normal glitches of a proxy so that's not a permanent solution.
Any ideas?
Thanks
same here, tried going on facebook and it shows i cant go on the site idk if its facebook or AT&T or both, but i know for a fact the mobile version of facebook works, m.facebook.com but no comfirmation of the full version, ill look around and see whats the problem but like i said it could be either AT&T or facebook or both tbh
ahhh...i hate this....but yeah m.facebook.com does work...but it sucks...lol...thanks for the info...hopefully someone answers us soon!!!
Yep.. im in a hotel right now and im blocked.. Pretty pissed about it might call ATT if it isnt resolved by tomorrow..
It is also blocked using WMWifiRouter in Wifi mode.
Oh wow - so this is bigger than AT&T blocking me personally...
It sounds like we all have the same symptoms
My m.facebook (pulling it up on my phone) also works fine
I would call AT&T, but I'm not paying for tethering so I doubt they'll be too receptive
What doesn't make sense to me is why would they block just Facebook? Why not block everything from us non-payers if they have this ability? Not saying I want that - but it just seems odd
Can a paying tethering customer tell us if you can still get on Facebook??
I thought I was just having some strange FB issue. I cannot go on using my tethered connection or my desktop at work anymore... Very strange...
day 2 and NO FB!!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHH THIS SUCKS!!
OMG!!! I GOT IT!!! vtunnel.com then type in facebook.com and BAM!!! YOUR IN!!!
Better Fix
its odd that att added facebook to their list but its ineviteble the block lots of site on their dns i found this out months ago when megavideo sudenly stoped working the best work around is to not use their dns its slow and crappy use opendns is fast and free even warns you against malware site you might be tricked onto clicking on. its what i use its alot more reliable than a cloaking site or proxys.
I use Walking Hot Spot for WiFiRouting on my ATT Fuze. I just tried to open facebook and it worked fine. I did not log-in as I do not have a facebook account, but I could browse to the site.
Doug M.
Also working for me again on both ends mentioned above.
all better ahh... thank you god!!!!

I had the same issue last week, got around it by using OpenDNS servers. Configure the network connection in Windows to the listed dns servers on their site and BAM, everything worked great again.
